I am into my 5th month of intermittent fasting. I am still watching Dr. Fung videos on YouTube for reinforcement. New concepts come up often and his analogies make sense. Today it was about trying to add more to an already stuffed suitcase, or continuing to add fuel to an already full gas tank. Just stop!

I use a fasting app, but for me, the visual tracking is more powerful on my spreadsheet.

The days add up, and so does the progress.

I am getting better, and returning to my lower carb eating, tracking through my Atkins tracker, trying to get back on my necessary veggies on the Wahls protocol.

My blood sugar responds pretty quickly to get to a normal level when I am doing things right.

It has been difficult to get back on track with exercise, but I am improving with that as well. I must start moving more or I will lose what I have. I must be brave and move forward!

I will take any hints you can give, Berry.

I think I've had Covid and along with my MS, that wasn't good.

I went on a nice walk today with my dog. It's been forever since I have done anything but walk around the backyard.

I have been cooking very healthy foods for my sis and I. I am still highly motivated by food! lol! I am lucky to have grocery delivery. I can just do the fun stuff, cook and eat. I don't mind cleaning up.

My A1c had dropped a whole point prior to the stay at home orders in March of this year

A1c=7.8.

Blood glucose has been running higher lately though. I became ill. Virus keeps returning. I started to eat some hi glycemic carbs. Need to come away from carbs again.

Fell off the wagon for a few days. Getting back on lower carbs a variety of different types of veggies. My face is itching like crazy as I had milk chocolate yesterday!

Finally came away from keto treats. They made my appetite ginormous! I know they spiked my insulin level even if they didn't raise my blood glucose.

So many tricky things to avoid.

I am now on ghee as opposed to butter as I am allergic to the caesin in milk products.

I am doing fung's daily IF most days. If I slip, I slip with a little piece of cheese. Still working on increasing my veggies for the Wahls' protocol.

Did my grocery shopping today. Ready for the week now.

I walked by myself today. Doc wanted me to start walking by myself as a more meditative walk. I walked down to the long block and back in the rain.

IF=14 hours. BG still in good range.

Really want to work on getting more walks in. Want to get out of the house more. It is important.

Adding many cups of veggies per day and sticking with 50 g carbs per day has enabled me to test in low 100s (102-107) for my fasting blood glucose which was taken after a 13 hour fast.

Note: I did move around a lot to prepare the house for a party.

For the past three days, I have averaged 50 grams of carbs. I have titrated my diabetes meds to keep up with the change. Victoza is one click under .6 dosage. I had to decrease it as it was causing severe heartburn and making me feel too full all the time. I am doing better on the lower dose.

Still doing IF of 12 to 16 hours daily.

Trying to recover from a bad flare. Such is life. emoticon

When I quit eating by 6 pm, eat lower carb with no simple sugars and no processed carbs, and fasting at least 14+ hours each day, then I saw my fbg decrease each day from 145 to 116.

It is hard to do, and my BG starts to creep up.

The main positive that will keep me trying is that the nerves in my right pointer finger are coming back/ numbness decreasing.

The main thing holding me back is a lack of motivation to exercise. Exercise is important to decrease my insulin resistance. I need to remember that.

So far so good. I am learning that it is ok to not be perfect with a fast. It can be near perfect and that is progress for getting back into the groove. I had a plate of riced cauliflower at midnight for example. It did not wreck my BG reading. It is better than munching on crackers at midnight!

Great bg results after a few days (170) but spiked up to 256 the next day. I will stay the course.

Compliant on meds

Starting gummies for most of my vitamins to be compliant. Not the best, but having trouble swallowing all the pills.

I did make an appt w dr carlos and also with neurologist. Today, I called and left mssg for a therapist close by. She deals coping with chronic illness and pain. Fingers crossed that she is taking new patients, but if not, I will continue to call around

Still need to start swimming and start walking program.

Been fasting around 19 hrs for the past few nights. Finally broke through my high blood glucose plateau. Dropped 190 pts in one day. It took a few days to do it. Thank god for dr fung and daily fasting with lower carb. It is the ONLY thing that works consistently to lower my BG.

Current goals:

Eat more fresh "free" veggies

Eat less red meat and cheese

Eat 2 fruit exchanges per day

Start swimming

Start regular walking program

Drink more water

No pm eating.

Make appts to find doc here and appt with neurologist. Have call into doc to see if she accepts new patients. If not, then make appt w dr carlos at the place where my old doc was. I need refills on my prescriptions.

I ate two pieces of fruit after my cut off time. However, I had no crackers yesterday which is a red light food for me. My BG wasn't too bad either. Better to slip and eat fruit than slip and eat crackers.

I have made it one week with full compliance -- at least, as well as I understand it. I've had no snacks, no sugar, low carbs, more fat, fasted 24 hours 3 times this week and 16/8 the other days. Is that compliant? Lost 3 pounds that I've been trying to lose since Christmas.

I had FBG of 268 yesterday after eating processed carbs at night.

Today, my FBG was 127! Tracking my carbs and one processed carb exchange gluten free bread in the morning. Gave me intense heartburn. Perhaps it is not entirely gluten free. My upper GI track was killing me.

Sorry I'm behind with the team, but I did want to share my recent doctor's visit was great. My doctor was very happy that my recent A1C was 5.6! That's in the "normal, non-diabetic" range for my doctor's office. This is down from 6.1 three months ago. I asked about reducing my metformin dose, and he told me I could cut it in half, or even stop it altogether. He said to "do what I want" and monitor my blood glucose at home and just watch it, and if it goes up then resume the metformin, but if it stays in a good range, I can stop it. For this week, I've stopped the morning dose (since I don't eat carbs until later in the day anyway), and continue to take it with dinner. I'll see how my numbers are for a week or so, and then maybe cut the evening dose in half.

I also asked him about fasting, and he was fine with that. It will be easier now, without having to take any morning meds. In fact today, it's now 3 pm, and I haven't had breakfast yet (did have a coffee with cream). So I'm slowly building up my "fasting muscles." I hope to get to one meal a day a few times a week.

I mainly do the 18:6 fast though I have done a couple of 24 hour fasts but nothing longer. I would like to try a longer one though!

It is definitely a learning process for me too. I want to get healthy and stay that way. I realize this will be the way I manage for the rest of my life. I know I can't eat many carbs without having a big spike and having to realize that is just the way things have to be. But I am encouraged with everyone here sharing their experiences and challenges. I am excited each day to see the changes in my body and in my BG levels. Though I do get some strange readings when I change my routine and have to drive to the office -- it definitely shoots up higher even after only drinking coffee which is my usual routine. Must be the stress of commuting or just knowing I have to get ready to go in!
