Glad you are enjoying IF and the articles posted here!

My IF was interrupted a bit as I craved a turkey snack once every 6 hours!

emoticon

I did much better in general though. I made mashed sweet potatoes with apples instead of mashed potatoes. It was delish.

Thanksgiving was uneventful for us this year, I was supposed to visit with family but we made the decision early Nov. to postpone since one family was traveling 5 states away... I felt it was the right choice.

We had our first Thanksgiving lunch on Wed., a friend delivered boxes for both of us and it was from a very good restaurant... Thursday I cooked a small fresh turkey breast with all the fixings. Friday we finished up all the leftovers. It all worked out great, I didn't go back for seconds + No Guilt...!... and I am still doing well on my 7th day of IF... . I am finding IF very interesting...! ! !

I started IF 7 days ago, 16/8 and I'm really getting into it... I have found lots of support on SparkPeople, and with all the threads and articles on this SparkTeam ... there is a wealth of information... I appreciate all the members who have posted items I have read and found helpful, Thank YOU...!

I found it interesting to "observe" my state of mind since both Thanksgiving celebrations were held at other peoples' homes. (One with my son, and one with a friend and some of her family.) For whatever reason, I was able to eat enough, but had no "cravings" to overeat.

In both situations, I had a small bite to eat BEFORE I left for the meal. It took the "edge" off and I was able to clearly choose "health" over quantity or excess. I skipped dessert at both locations. I was full and it wasn't a "need".

I was glad to not have to crazy clean the house and cook, and cook some more. I didn't have the "performance" push, so I think I was able to be far more intentional in what I ate?!

Taking the time to be intentional in the things I choose to do or engage in...
Like Friday, after my float, I needed to drop a package off at an older friend's place. I thought I shouldn't stay, given the number of people that I've interacted with in a closer space over the past 2-3 days. But she had been unable to sleep due to extreme pain (tied to a long list of health issues), and had been awake for 24 hrs. She was struggling. I ended up sitting down for about 2 hrs with the goal to love & encourage her. It was time very well spent.

Both of us have the same confidence that nothing is going to cause us to die....before it is our time to go. After making sure she was okay with my staying, we shared a whole lot about our families, experiences, and so on...!

How was everyone's Thanksgiving? What brings you thanks?

For me, I am super thankful for my family and pets. I miss seeing some of my family, but I am living with one sister. We have two dogs to keep the fun going! They are a hoot!

The new tests will be compared to brain and cervical MRIs done in 2019.

It is not a coincidence that you found someone who told you what to do for your feet. I love the Bosch quote, "There are no coincidences.".

You can be like those ppl who run into the icy water! You will be fast walking it down the beach!

Wow! @BECCABOO127
You really DO have a lot of things going on. I hope the results show improvements! (Don't know if you have had these kinds of tests previously by which comparisons can be drawn??)

I went to a massage therapist today, and it was a very painful experience. But, my foot is noticeably better now than when I went in.
And she provided an interesting experiment to try 3-4 days a week. -- I will have to purchase the supplies to try it out, but she spoke from personal experience, that it worked for her! Her feet have been pain-free for 3 yrs now!

She said that if she went to her dancing class one evening, she would have to take the next day off from work... since she could not walk due to extreme pain. (She had to quit dance.) ~ But someone shared a walking-in-sand "treatment" and over time, it cured her plantar fasciitis.
emoticon
Absolutely no harm in the trying of this! (Maybe I could also write a personal prescription to go walk on the beach barefoot at least once a month?!)
emoticon
Could be a "chilling" experience in the winter months!

My friend had been taking motrin 200 several times a day for ten years. The doc said it is a wonder she is still alive. The doc caught erosion in her intestines during a colonoscopy.

I take daily baby aspirins and flax seed capsules for inflammation. I only take tylenol for special occasions, like my shingle flare ups or when I broke my toe/foot.

I am going to my podiatrist tomorrow for her to check out my toe/foot. It just broke too easily.

I got my neuro specialist blood work done. The lab took six vials! The brain and cervical MRIs will be done December 1st.

Then, I am likely having a lumbar puncture. Sigh. At least I am getting it done.

My spiritual teacher says that when she feels overwhelmed, she rephrases it to say, "Look at all the opportunities I have today!" It helps!

Love the quote!

I have heard "good things" about the frozen water bottle trick. Including a retired nurse who heartily agreed!

And I did edit that link to do as you mentioned. (I hadn't even thought of it, so thanks for bringing it up!)

I have to be careful w/ ibuprofen/tylenol... I "destroyed" my gut a couple of years back when I had 3 different medical professionals each suggesting ibuproten for 3 different issues. I failed to think for myself, and made the mistake of thinking "they must know better", eh?! (NO!)

I will probably also use IcyHot or similar at bedtime and see if that helps... I was told to "spend some money" on quality shoes. (And unemployment runs out in 5 weeks... No job in sight.)

But, I am blessed with "enough". So I will move forward on that!

Could I edit ur message to take the "s" out of https

I can read it after u do that.

Amazon has good night time splints for that condition. Also, my friend would half way fill a little water bottle and freeze it. Then she would roll it under the foot in 10 minute increments. It will help with the pain and inflammation.

It's not so funny that ppl including doctors, won't listen to our levels of pain. We aren't making it up!

Sending hugs. emoticon

Tylenol helps me somewhat with bad pain. Hope u r on the road to mending.

Today, I got the "answer" as to why I've had constant pain in my right foot. Plantar Fasciitis.

So, in reality, I need to take walking off the table to allow healing to happen. (It started "flaring" this summer. Nobody listened to me when I talked about the extreme pain I would get...)

@PRIMEOFMYLIFE discovered & shared an exercise unit that might be an option, if I can find a reasonably priced one as well as a place to put it..............?! (She wrote a blog about it and it's benefits!)

I hope your hubby feels better soon.

I also get to deal with a neurologist who thinks the Wahl's protocol is caca; although, he did admit that the Mediterranean diet helps as it decreases inflammation. I told him I was more Mediterranean diet anyway. I contend that the Wahl's protocol, level one is like the Mediterranean diet.

It's hard to strive toward these improvements, but worth it, of course. I am beginning to dislike doctors. I find that doctors who come from overseas to be more knowledgeable and supportive.

I just take my diet day by day and tell myself that there will be more improvements in my bloodwork. That's all I can do.

Thank you for your support!

I think Fung would tell me to go keto!

I have to be careful to not restrict myself too much, as I am a reformed binger. Too many restrictions can start that old beast up again, and it has been quelled for about 30 years.

That must be so frustrating... to know there's been improvement and not get the needed support.
I have to say, I would do my own research and IMO the bottom line is that you KNOW your own body! You know what works for you. You need to trust yourself and do what you think is best!!

If you meet with the diabetic nurse, tell her you want other options! You are very right... More insulin with insulin resistance is NOT the "answer".

I don't know if it's possible for you, but if you could try a 24 hr fast, then eat one day. Then fast again. Sometimes there are "breakthrough's" with longer time fasted. Trying out an every other day for a week or so, might have an impact??!
** I know you have made AWESOME changes over time!
emoticon
Wish you could have a conversation with one of Dr. Fung's staff to see what direction they would suggest!

Let me/us know if there is any other way we can support you.

(I totally "get" the issues w/ the low-grade fever and body's response... My DH continues to be in pain, and the medical staff wonders why his blood pressure is noticeably "up"?!? Go figure!)

My new doc runs numbers only and doesn't take into consideration other factors. My A1C was a 7.9, which is an improvement. She wants me to go to her diabetic nurse who will "adjust my meds" most likely meaning give me rapid insulin, which as one knows is not what I need.

Yes, just shove in more insulin to an insulin resistant person!

Months of running a low grade fever most likely from my tooth apparently doesn't count.

Then, she wants to out me on a drug other than statins to lower my LDL.

I miss my other doc. She would have been happy with my A1C going down and encourage me further, and she told me reducing cholesterol with something other than a statin may reduce your numbers but not be protective to the heart.

She moved to another state. She was smart.

Thank you @BECCABOO127 !
(I doubt if anything will "beat" the wonderful time I had last year when DS & his girlfriend took me to the beach for the day... to walk and then have dinner there! As we were leaving the area, we came upon a herd of elk along the side of the road, eating in a grassy area. There must have been at least a dozen ignoring those of us who pulled to the side to observe them!)

Now we are on our way to planning Thanksgiving... First time, I believe, that we've had 3 different "options" to participate in. Starting on Wed. PM. That will be the family gathering. ~ Then on Thurs. we will meet up with some long-time friends. (The husband has been dealing with cancer since March!) ~ This week, my younger brother & his new girlfriend, invited us to join her family, but we will have to take a "raincheck" since the other things were already planned.

How about others on the team? Plans? Gatherings?

I do hope @BECCABOO127, that things work out with your dental issues. I speak from experience that those are a "serious pain"! (2 crowns replaced this year. Talk about expensive! But I'm thinking those were still "less" than implants!)

Happy belated Berry! I know you had fun, and some fun is especially important lately!

My procedure went fine I am happy to report. I go to get the stitches out in a few weeks.

My other tooth (an implant) is compromised and is starting to pain me so I have to watch that too. I saw from the x-ray the dentist did that it is changing. As my mamma would always say, "It is always something!"

Please tell how your birthday day went!

Hey, @BECCABOO127 did everything go okay with your procedure?

It's my emoticon today and the sun is shining and I'm drinking my free coffee. Saw a few "treats" in my inbox, so something to look forward to this month.

Family is coming over for lunch. It will be great to have everybody together!

Hopefully, I will get a walk in before too late in the day...now that the daylight is shorter with the time change.
(Need to finish getting things around the house cleaned up before they come, so can't head out the door now....)

I read that it is best to not snack during feasting days. I typically stick to two meals plus a small snack later. That is to keep my insulin from spiking throughout the day.

I still read that ppl think it is best to have little meals all day long. Sure, if you want to become insulin resistant! These are ppl who don't know about Dr Fung obviously.

I am due to have my procedure done the last week of the month. Hope winter waits a little while. Berry bushes that haven't bloomed in years are blooming red berries. I wonder if that is a sign of a rough winter to come.

Hope u get some quilting time soon!

Hope u also count all that physical labor as heart healthy exercise as it sure is!

Still trying to keep baby bunnies alive. Down to 3 now (from 6). ~ I'm definitely frustrated that the mama seems to have NO interest in doing her part. I'm not sure I can do this for another 2-3 weeks, until they can start eating pellets.

Walked 2x's today (30 min AM & 30 min PM). That brings my "streak" to 19 out of 20 days.

It's been a busy week this week. The only day I didn't have somewhere to go/be was Thurs. I haven't had a spot of time to get to my quilting.
emoticon
We've got wood to move & get stored onto the porch and closest woodshed on Saturday. (That is our source of heat for the house.) It's supposed to rain tonight, and then again on Sun-Tues. They are predicting one of our WET winters this year. ...time will tell!

Had an interesting fasting week. Best as I can describe it was "on & off". I had a meal tonight. First meal since last Sunday. Other than that, I had mixed nuts on Tues. & half an avocado on Thurs.

Gleaned some info from Dr. Fung's FB group. Definitely helpful. ~ Trying to figure out both how to heal my liver and my metabolism. They said "eat more" on feasting days. But then I get bloated & gassy. Sigh.......

Let us know how your journey is going... if you happen to stop by our coffee chat.

Good for u for the walking!

My malitol candy episode made me lose 3 pounds. I also came off the rapid acting insulin so that should help some.

Had an interesting day... Technically it started Sat. late afternoon as I was trying to get started with some sewing. -- DH said, "Meet me at the front door." (There's an outside window in the sewing rm.) ........LONG story, shorter: my daughter had left a brother & sister rabbit together for way too long. Now there are 5 little kits & the mama seems simply curious; not that interested in caring for them. So, 3x's a day, I'm "assisting" her in that task. (I learned a LOT when my DD was in 4H for about 8 yrs!)
emoticon

AND had dental appt to deal w/ crown that came off while away on vacation. Nobody is willing to "repair" or re-cement the existing crown "because it's OLD". (So what?!) Add some mouth-cement & good to go. Right?! NO. You have to pay almost $800 for a new one.
emoticon

Then, went from there to the place that is storing a LARGE donation of quilting fabric. I picked up enough to fill the back seat of my car. And you wouldn't even know that I had... There was so much still left. -- At least a dozen ladies had gone through the material already, so there was way more to begin with.

AND... last, but not least, I'm 24 hrs into a fast. Still wanting to be under 200 lbs by my Bday. Getting on the scale today: only 1 lb up from 10 or so days ago. Thankful for all the walking on vacation to help w/ what I ate.

Today was weird. Didn't have an appetite at all. Ate some malitol candy--big mistake!! Nasty stuff. Never again. I ate one real meal at about 7 PM. Egg and ham on toast.

I didn't even eat that much candy. Very sick now. Yikes.

I've been on vacation this week. We have a kitchen so have been fixing foods in place of take-out. Plus I've had extra opportunity/time to walk. (Working on a walking streak...)

I have a couple of targets to work toward. ~ It's less than a month to my birthday. (The last of the 50's!) My goal is to be under 200#'s by that point.
And my son has set next Aug. as the month for a wedding. It will take some focus and effort to be ready for that event, and to feel good about myself. I'd like to be at 175.

Yes. I know I have to set specific goals and have a way to accomplish those things. ...day by day. Step by step.

Hello to all our new members!

I got a big shock of reality when I stepped on my scale this past weekend. The scale was up 10 pounds since my mother passed away. I am an emotional eater and the numbers on the scale proved it. So yesterday I went and purchased a new water bottle at Costco. It holds 3 cups and is see-through so I can keep track of my water. Today I have downed 9 cups. Focusing on basics is a good way for me to get back on track. And I have started to journal my emotions instead of stuffing them down with food and sugary drinks. Baby steps and small daily goals will bring results.

The smoke from the wildfires in Washington and Oregon is making its way across the border and into my area of Canada. It is bad here and I can only imagine how awful it is closer to the source. My thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by the destruction and loss of life. My sister and her 87-year-old hubby are here helping me settle our motherís affairs. He has COPD and had to go by ambulance to emergency on Saturday due to the effects of the smoke on his breathing. We had a little bit of rain this afternoon/evening but it hasnít helped eliminate the smoke much.

Hoping everyone stays safe. Hugs to all.

I'm working on changing both perspective and thought process...

I posted this under a different subject, category, but not sure if it is noticed or viewed.?! -- I thought it would help me be more accountable if I shared it at large.

I was just going to mention... that it seems for me, when I try to regain my "fasting-mojo"... food comes to the forefront, everywhere I look!
emoticon

And as someone said on the Dr. Fung FB group: "Sometimes we have to accept that healthy change(s) may also bring discomfort."

** The reality is we (I) need to accept that and go beyond the discomfort 'now' with the goal of improved health as I persist and push through."

(My translation/paraphrase...!) It's been a high-level of stress and lack of perspective that has kept me STUCK for the past 6 months.
emoticon
But my body NEEDS to fast. It NEEDS to release the JUNK that is holding it in an unhealthy "loop".

And so, today, I begin to daily address my mindset in order to guide the necessary changes that have to take place.

I was naturally thrust into a teacher role later in life. I enjoyed tutoring ppl when I did it. Now it is just day by day stuff. That's all the energy I have these days.

I'm not sure what my next steps will look like... I've seen myself in something of a "teacher" role for most of my life. -- I was the oldest of 3. Moved out when I was still 17. Worked with kids in one way or another pretty much all of my adult years.

Now, I'm seeking to be open to filling needs as they are presented to me. But kind of hard to make plans. Don't have a regular schedule.

For now... One day at a time... Which, truthfully, is all that we have.

Well August was basically a bad moment in time. The month started with my mother passing away at age 100. For the last 12 years my identity has been as a care giver to my Mom, and now that she is gone, I must redefine myself. This will involve establishing a new routine that does not revolve around care giving.

Both my sisters are still here and we are working on sorting through our mother's things. There are some tears, some laughter, and lots of shared memories. I am very thankful for their help and support.

As part of the cycle of life, our family welcomed a new member into the extended family. On August 25, my great nephew and his wife welcomed another daughter into their little family. She is beautiful and healthy and is adored by her two older sisters.

How is everybody doing?

I have been enjoying making simple meals with fresh or frozen veggies and fresh fruit! I am trying to get more veggie variety in my meals, and made some really yummy dishes by tweaking the types of veggies.

For example, I made pesto pasta, but mixed in a while bag of frozen spinach will cooking the pasta. I served it with seafood, and the spinach was wonderful with the pesto!

For my chicken soup, I mixed in kale and sweet potatoes which was a new twist to an old recipe for me.

What kinds of things do you do to make a new twist?

I am glad u enjoyed ur massage. I did reiki on myself and feel better. I also did a little self massage. My arm was just a bunch of knots!

Trying to get back on the good road. 14 hour fast from last night. Now, I need to cut out the sugar again.

I have given up cheese. Makes me sick to eat something after I've given it up.

You are right about the upset tummy when you've eaten something your body doesn't like. Another clue is your heart will beat faster when you've eaten something like that. I used to experience that a lot when I was younger and eating junk food.

Made it to 17 hours! Yay!

Speaking of food, sometimes we find what we don't tolerate (even though it tastes good) by the "aftermath" of stomach upset & bloating & burping for hours after the meal.
emoticon
I found that I had to take probiotics + yogurt + ACV in water to get things calmed down. I'm sure that it didn't help that I may have eaten faster since I was very hungry. And, I ate a large amount. (chicken & shrimp scampi w/ added onions, asparagus, & tomatoes served over angel hair pasta)
* Essentially, been eating only one main meal a day. OMAD

Lessons learned in the doing!

So sorry to hear about your mother too....sending hugs your way...

Sorry about the school job too...this pandemic is hard to bear sometimes. My 10 year old said he's feeling a little empty inside. He'd like to be able to sign up for some activity, or play with other children. I have a lot of kids and they spend a lot of time with him, but they are all 17 and up in age. NJ is pretty strict, not allowing gatherings. Our county college is going to be only online this fall, so 2 of my kids aren't taking classes. They were homeschooled all their lives, they don't want to pay to be homeschooled in college...so they will wait until they can go in person again. One of kids plans to take a class though, he doesn't mind it being online.

I made some nice tofu miso soup this week. I also am enjoying quinoa flakes with berries, a banana, a little honey and homemade yogurt. Haven't been very faithful with my fasting hours though.

Love,

Helen

Hi Helen! It sounds like u r on the right track.

I started to lose weight when I came off gluten. I was having a lot of inflammatory problems which resolved when I came off gluten.

Now, due to my potential MS, I am on the Wahl's protocol, and have given up milk to try to help my brain lesions. If u have any autoimmune or inflammatory condition, u can Google Wahls protocol of more info. Keep on keeping on as you have made great improvements!

It is all just a work in progress for all of us

@ Jin, sorry to hear about your mum. That is stressful. Sending hugs to u and mum.

@ berry sorry to hear about ur school job. ‚ô•ÔłŹ

Thank u for the excellent, heartfelt message. Yes, we do need to gather around and support each other.

Continuing to work on sanity...in a world gone CRAZY. Just had confirmed that my school job will not exist since all is moving to "online" learning...nothing in person.

Found this article today and it appealed to me greatly. So...I will "march" in this direction!

"To fight that darkness, we must seek out like-minded folks among our family, friends, and neighbors who also understand where this madness is leading us, and gather with them to regain a sense that we are not alone and that the crazies do not include us. When we live near these people, we should make pacts pledging our assistance and loyalty to one another in times of trouble. We should also get together with such people for suppers and parties, seeking laughter and gaiety as antidotes to the ugliness of our age."

Hello! I haven't been on Spark for so long, but thought I'd give it a try again. I started tracking my food again this week and it made me think it might be nice to get involved here again.

It seems like there isn't a sure-fire bullet for me for weight loss. About 7 years ago I gave up sugar. Didn't lose any weight from that but I felt I was addicted to it, so I was glad to do it. A few years ago I went plant-based and lost a little then my weight went back up. I was healthier though. :) No more high blood pressure and my thyroid improved. I had 50 lbs to lose. 2 years ago I added intermittent fasting. I lost 20 lbs the first few months, but really haven't lost anymore since. I go up and down the next 10 lbs...lose it then gain it back. So, my next layer I'm adding is back to tracking my foods and trying to stick to 1500 calories a day. I still have 30 lbs to lose to get back to my normal weight. So I am sugar free, (oh, yeah, gluten free for a year), plant based, eating in a 3-6 hour window each day and now tracking calories aiming for 1500 cal/day. We'll see how it goes!

I'm 53 and menopausal. I gained the weight after my 5th child (age 43)...probably just from stress. :)

Today I ate in a 6 hour window. Just didn't get my food made in time to close the window earlier.

I tried OMAD in January for a month, eating in a 1 hour window and it was too restrictive for me. I had to stop fasting altogether for a couple of weeks before I could start getting back on track. I typically lose 1 lb a month when I'm adhering to everything I mentioned above, so the rewards are not fantastic enough to be rewarding.

That's if for now!

Helen

This month is a challenge. Last week my 100 year old mother fell and broke her foot. This has really impacted her and taken its toll on her. It is stressful for me, but I am thankful that at the time of her fall, my niece, who is a nurse, was visiting us. And my older sister came for 5 days to help out. My Mom is sleeping a lot, but is still eating and drinking and is fairly alert in the mornings, but her energy diminishes as the day goes on. We are taking it one day at a time.

I hope everyone is having a better July.

Sending hugs to you, Berry! Hope u feel better!

I am switching to a new doc who is supposed to be good. I am seeing their nurse practitioner for my medicare wellness exam, but can do telehealth with the doc later. They take blood there so I don't have to worry about going to a lab. I am happy about that. I will wear my PPE and sally forth.

Haven't been able to get acupuncture or massage for my poor ole' bod, but I was trained and attuned to perform Reiki I and II which is energy healing work.

I think it is what has been saving me. I get a lot of body pain with my condition. The reiki has been helping. I am proud of myself for going for it and getting trained!

I have been helping my sisters, too, and my nephew can't wait to get a treatment from me.

I need to practice it for about six months before I go to become a reiki master.

I took a nice walk today with my pooch. Enjoyable.

Found a way (via info from my sis) to order blood tests from a local lab. They were discounted and I was able to get a substantial panel of information.

The last 2 M.D.'s I interacted with REFUSED to order any form of blood work as part of my physical examination. I think that is simply ridiculous. I'm only getting older and IMO blood work is one means of getting a "heads-up" as to what is happening inside the body.

I was happy that my A1c was in an "okay" range. Thankful that it is staying below "pre-diabetic".

As I a suspected, my liver #'s are way high again, so with my regain in weight over the past year & a half, my NAFLD has significantly flared up. -- Did you know that eating liver actually helps one's liver?! ...and of course, time to get back to regular fasting. I know it works for me.

Anyway, finished day #4 out of 30 or so days that the farm is open for u-pick. Overall, it's been going okay. Even though I prefer cooler summer temps, the fruit needs sunshine to sweeten. We also need HEAT to take care of a pest that will ruin the fruit before end of month. (We refuse to put spray on the berries!)

But, as always, we get what we get. Might as well make the best of it!

So sorry @BERRY4! Like times arenít tough enough! Youíre not Wal-Mart, or a large chain store than can absorb that. So disappointing. I wish I lived closer and could buy your berries.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I track, measure, weigh, and count like an OCD individual! I log into SP many times each day. I know it is my crutch, for now. For now it is the routine that keeps me honest.

May the rest of July bring you better days.

@PRIMEOFMYLIFE - Obviously, what you ARE doing IS working! Down 30#'s!

Just my personal experience... tracking is tedious and rarely accurate for me. I refuse to weigh foods. And the whole macro thing for keto blows my personal, limited mental facilities.

The only thing that makes sense is how they track carbs / net carbs (subtracting fiber). Beyond that, I "fail" big time.

When I was doing EF every 4-6 weeks, I was able to change my overall relationship with food. And I still have a lot of work to do in that department. -- As a family member said this week, "I so wish I had known when the damage was being done, so that I could have taken steps to halt it."

My next "guess" is that my metabolism is so "broken" that I rarely feel like sitting down and eating a large meal. Doesn't matter what it consists of... I think I eat like a rabbit?!

And with that said, I just finished 40 hrs water-fasted. Will plan to continue this every week this month, and see if it has helped or hindered. I would like to take fasting longer...but I'm in a stress-filled work situation most days, and well, fasting can be it's own kind of stress.

I'm already working from an upset sleep schedule (or lack thereof) and depression. Doing the best I can to "tread water" and get through July. (The longest month of the year for me.)
emoticon Maybe we will finally QUIT the farming insanity which involves the public for 4-6 weeks. Today, I got "taken" by a FAKE $50. I would sure like to "call out" the person who put it in w/ a couple of other bills. (It looked like it might have gone through the laundry, but no, it was FAKE.)

Sorry to be a "downer"... just the page I'm on right now.

So . . . all my research says not to track what you eat when eating keto and intermittent fasting; that you really canít over eat on fats and proteins. The point of SP is to track! I have been tracking and it is interesting to see my macro %s. I average each category for the month, including calories. Even the SP trivia marked me wrong when asked if missing breakfast aids I weight loss. Itís working for me. Maybe once Iím secure in my new eating habits, hit my weight loss goal, and can maintain . . . but past experience has been if I stop tracking, I gain the weight back.
Thoughts?

Just one more day till the beginning of a new month. These first 6 months of 2020 have been challenging, but I am hoping that the next 6 will be more ďnormalĒ, whatever that is. I have made some short and long term goals for the rest of the year to start on July 1st. The beginning of a month is a good place to start refocusing and getting back on track.

My oldest nephew has been here visiting us for the past 12 days. He fixed some things around the house, helped me with tasks in the back yard, and did a fair amount of the meal prep. And he did lots of visiting with my Mom. I think it helped ease some of the feelings of isolation she has been experiencing since the covid 19 quarantine started. With some of the restrictions being lifted we will likely get a few more family members coming down to visit. My Mom turned 100 in March, so I know she treasures the times spent with her children (my sisters), her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

@BERRY4 - glad you were able to enjoy a relaxing and much needed massage. It does help to get the stress out. emoticon

Hoping everyone is enjoying the last days of June and looking forward to the rest of the summer.

Ended up with a busy day today. Activities & errands from 11:30 - 4:30.

The "best" part was taking time for a massage. Trying to work out the "kinks" that got set in after being on the riding mower for 6+ hours (over a 3-day period). I was dealing w/ limited in range of motion in both neck & shoulder/arms. Thankful for some help in increasing movement options! -- The massage therapist said, "exercise or not, stretching throughout the day is beneficial...especially as I get older".

Then I made a delivery to a friend's house of an item I had borrowed quite some time ago. + 4 other errand-type stops, and then dinner to-go from Chipotle'. It's one of my favorite pick-up meals!

Hope you all have a great week...as we finish out June and head into July on Wednesday!

Spent some time outside in my garden today dead heading the roses and then attacking the overgrown rhododendron trees. They are very old and the lower branches were blocking sunlight to the perennials growing near by. I just got out my pruning shears and started hacking away at the lower branches. I hope I did not shock the rhododendrons too much. But the added sunlight ought to be good for the daisies, roses, and other plants that were being overshadowed by the trees.

I do find spending time in the garden to be very relaxing and it soothes my soul. While I was in the garden I had some visitors Ė a couple of squirrels, a Stellerís Jay, some American Goldfinches, Chickadees, House Finches, and various sparrows. Oh and one neighbourhood cat who was there to ďseeĒ the birds. My nephew is here visiting us so that should allow me more time to work outside among my flowers and plants.

BERRY4 - sorry to hear about your hubby's health issues - I hope the tests will show what is causing the pain and that he gets relief fast. Happy Anniversary too.
As for the blackberries - the bushes can be a real pain, but the fruit is delcious.

Speaking of fruit and berries - I splurged and bought myself some strawberries, raspberries, and cherries today. I am planning on making a fresh strawberry pie tomorrow.

Wishing everyone a great weekend.

Managed to get the lawn mowed on Wed. & worked on weeding some of the "infernal" blackberries that grow everywhere & get into everything. -- In fact, I had to cut back several LONG branches that blocked my pass with the mower. I think I filled 3 wheelbarrows full of those pesky things. I have to wear special gloves to keep the thorns from shredding my hands. As it is, the leaves even attach to clothing, legs, arms, etc!
emoticon
On a different note, it was our 31st Wedding Anniversary on Wed. But DH took himself to Urgent Care for extreme stomach pain. He will be getting a test at the hospital Thurs. to look for gallstones. But IMO he is far more likely to have an ulcer. He's been on a LOT of meds over the past 2 yrs + is dealing w/ a lot of stress, chronic pain, and insomnia.

Enjoying a drier day today after a week or so of rain. The little bit of sunshine really lifts my spirits. Just wish it were dry enough to venture out into my garden, but everything is still too wet, and I donít relish getting soaked.

I have been busy procrastinating here. Been putting off finishing the last of the masks I want to sew Ė a couple for me, and some for family. Went grocery shopping yesterday and left my mask in the car. As it was pouring rain, I didnít want to go back for it. I felt almost naked to be shopping without my face mask; so different from a few months ago when it felt strange to be wearing one. How times have changed!

The first of our local berries are in now. The strawberries look and taste amazing. And I did see a few raspberries at my local farm market. I do enjoy berry and fruit season. This summer I plan to can some fresh fruit as our jars are just about gone. Need to put up some cherries, raspberries, apricots, peaches, and pears. It is a lot of work, but the results make it all worth while. And it is so nice to have preserved fruit in the cold and dark days of winter.

Corvus42 - your pups are so cute. I hope you enjoy many happy years with their companionship.

Berry4 - the recipe looks tasty - will have to give it a try. I do enjoy Mexican foods.

Hope everyone's week is off to a great start.

Finally! A break in the rainy weather! (I think we may have had over an inch on Saturday.)

Made it outside for a walk today. And did more movement today than in the whole past week!

I DID get the taxes completed last Sunday. It was an all-day "cruncher". But I also was very jazzed that doing them myself saved $700.

And the upcoming week is supposed to bring higher temps...into the 80's for at least 4 days. Guess it's turning into a month of "extremes" on numerous levels.

I will need to get on a rider mower to start mowing 4 acres of field. That can easily take me 5+ hrs at a low speed...2 passes down every row. Uneven & bumpy & NOT a lot of fun...
emoticon
No one else to get it done. -- But hopefully I can keep walking w/ friends & get movement into every day!
You all have a great week! emoticon

Rainy weekend here already... DD wants to go visit a lavender farm. I truly didn't know of all the offerings within 75 miles or so. I said I would have a bit more fun if it wasn't totally wet all around!
She wants to take her camera & get some photo shots. She is an artist at heart with gifting in music, dance, and drawing, along w/ photography. (Now to get some prints enlarged to put up on the wall!)

Taxes absolutely HAVE to get done...sooner rather than later. (Already landed on the "later" category.) Just feels a bit overwhelming to deal with it all right now.

Hope you find some fun in your weekend. ~ Another outing I would enjoy is to head to the Portland Rose Gardens. The roses are in bloom all around town.

(not my pic)

PRIMEOFMYLIFE -- I would say that whatever is working for you & your body... is the "best" path for YOU. IMO, each person can find both the foods & the schedule & the "way of eating" that finds both benefit AND improvement of health. Sometimes it takes a circuitous path to find that out. And, I do feel that keeping the body "guessing" has it's own benefit!
emoticon
It will take a bit of time for my flower starts to get into full form, but I think they will look great in a couple of weeks. -- I was able to get a flat of about 20 small plants for $10.50 & DH picked up a couple of discounted hanging plants for $5 each. That along w/ all the greenery we have, plus a fuchsia that we were able to winter over by cutting way back, we should be "set" for a season of flowers in the weeks to come!

The farm should be open-for-business by July 4th. Time will tell what kind of response we will have with all the fear & craziness tied to the virus. Staying home will NOT solve the problem. Our county is still not "open" but since we grow food, we should be able to set our own "standards" for business... We'll see what plays out in the days to come.

My husband has had reoccurring back pain of significance. (2 yrs w/ no "end" in sight!) -- It is possible that this will be the last year we can operate the farm due to his limitations?!

Enjoy your last week of May! ~ Next Monday will be June 1st!

So far been enjoying this week. Yesterday I got a pedicure Ė such a treat as it had been so long since my last one. With the arthritis in my right hip I can not bend my hip/knee enough to reach my foot and trim my own nails; can still do the left one though, so of course my feet looked somewhat off balance. Most of the businesses that have reopened up here require a face mask, so I was able to try out one of my new masks. It felt great and seemed to fit well. I went again to Fabricland and purchased a bit more fabric. My brother-in-law needs masks at his work site so I picked up some solid navy cotton to make his a few. Also found some fun cherry & blueberry print cotton fabrics and am going to make myself and my sisters a mask from those fabrics as well. So far I have made a dozen face mask. They are simple to make and sew up fast Ė my type of project. Thursday I am going to get my hair cut Ė so looking forward to that.

Dee - I think what you are doing sounds great. Whatever works for you is my motto. This is your lifestyle and you get to set the patterns and methods that fit you. emoticon

Becca - what you are doing and planning for your garden area sounds lovely. I hope you will share some photos. It is always nice to see what others are doing and it provides one with fresh ideas. emoticon

Is this group strictly KETO? Iím not diabetic, but am intermittent fasting to lose weight and for health benefits. I have seriously reduced carbs by removing sugar, flour products, junk food and refined carbs. I still eat bananas, apples, oranges and healthy foods with carbs, in moderation. Yes, the body uses the carbs as energy first, but the ketosis after fasting then uses body fat for energy. Do I have that right? Itís working for me, and I feel I eat healthily. 3-5% carbs seems quite unrealistic for me. I swing in the 30-40% carb range. Yes, I made a spreadsheet! Any thoughts from team members? I have scoured all 29 parts of the link attached, and there are suggestions about food, but he truly promotes ďfeast and fast.Ē. I appreciated parts 9, 12, 21, 26, and 27, if you donít have a week to read it all! Iím a believer!

Hi all!

I think the masks will be lovely Jin! I am doing a little gardening, too, as I will be in one place long enough to "nest." I am learning from articles online exactly what plants will work best for what area, and how to feed them and care for them.

So far I have four rose bushes, two rose trees, a hydrangea bush, a Lily bush, some milk weed, a butterfly bush. I planted two of them and let the lawn guy plant the rest.

I moved this antique concrete bird bath to the front of the side yard with my dad's old dolly which we still have. I set up a solar insert to keep the water fresh. As ppl walk down the street, they will be able to see my garden, which in my mind's eye will develop into the "secret garden," my mom's favorite childhood book.

Berry, I just wish they had closed down the country early on for a few weeks. I think it would have helped a lot. The delay certainly didn't help anything. It is a sad time. ‚ô•ÔłŹ

My sister is sad as her husband, who was in the military, lost his life as an atomic war veteran. Today is hard for her.

We had memorial day weekend, and had our favorite meals each day.

Today, will be leftover BBQ chicken, and I plan to go make slaw and potato salad.

I am taking it easy today.

Glad to have the weekend ahead Ė looking forward to a bit more me time. It is not a long weekend here in Canada - we had our long weekend last weekend. I am going to start making a couple of face mask following some instructions I got off You Tube. I have a pedicure and hair cut booked for next week and I need to wear a mask to my appointments. I do have a couple of paper face masks but would like to have ones that I can wash and reuse as it looks like wearing a face mask may be the new normal. I was able to pick up some pretty cotton material on sale at Fabricland yesterday.

We have had lots of rain the past few days which mean I donít have to be out watering the bedding plants I moved into my garden this week. Still got a couple of tasks to do out in my yard but I will require some help with them. They involve transplanting a hydrangea plant, cutting back the ivy, and trimming some of the lilac branches that are hanging over my veggie patch. Also got to get my pole beans in the ground. I think I will start them off in some little pots and let them get a good start before putting them in the ground.

Anyone with plans for Memorial Day? -- I can't go to the grave site of family members since it's about 350+ miles away.

Hoping to get my adult children together for a BBQ. My son & fiance' have a new "baby" in their family... emoticon It's a brand new puppy! So funny hearing them talk about having to get up w/ it in the night as well as cleaning up after it!
emoticon
With food prices sky rocketing & meat shortages, we may be "rationed" to whatever I can thaw from the freezer. Sigh.... IMO this is only the beginning of the fall out of everything being shut down.
emoticon
Farmers in Idaho had piles of potatoes as high as buildings...of crops with no markets. Wisconsin farmers were pouring milk on the ground...no place to take it all. And so it goes... Restaurants are either closed or going out of business. There's no hotels or resorts taking food. Cruise ships are "stalled" with forgotten employees on board.

I honestly can't say that the COST of shutting everything down is worth it on any level. It is sad to see so many people being wiped out--not by a virus, but by a financial CRASH that we've yet to see the end of. People are now lining up at food banks because they don't have the resources to get through this shut down. What a tragic MESS.

Thanks for sharing your plant pics @JINLYNN !

Friday was one of the 2 days I was able to get out & about. Had an appt. w/ a massage therapist that is back open! Maybe you've heard the expression: "hurts so good?!"
emoticon
After that, I made time to sit & chat w/ my friend on her patio. It was nice to see & talk w/ her!

Also stopped in at a grocery store for some discounted steaks...but they were all sold out.
emoticon
Went ahead & made a stock-up run to Costco. Bought twice as much as usual, but probably will be another 4-6 weeks before I go in there again. Really not worth the trouble right now, but there were a number of items that I was either out of or running low on.

Came home & DH had found 3 potted plants for me as a belated Mother's Day... 2 hanging & one on the front porch. (I'll have to take pics!) -- Still want to get a flat of impatiens while they are on sale.
emoticon
Hope you find some pleasure in your weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! It is the start of a long weekend here in Canada (Victoria Day). The BC government is opening up provincial parks for the weekend but only for day use, no overnight camping. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a camperized van to do a spot of camping and enjoying the great outdoor. Something to plan for.

Yesterday when I got home from grocery shopping I worked in my front garden for a little while. I planted some of the bedding plants I had picked up at Home Depot. It should be bright and colourful when they get a bit bigger and fill in. The rest I loaded up in the wheelbarrow and took to the back yard. As I have a lot more plants to place back there it will take a lot more time. I like to pace myself and take my time gardening as my arthritic back and hip donít like it when I do too much bending over.

I am looking forward to the time when the hair salons open up again and I can get my hair cut. It is so long and shaggy that I have started to get the urge to chase cars and pee on wheels.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Today would have been my Dadís 106th birthday. He died 12 years ago next month. I still think about him and miss him. My Mom and I drove to the cemetery to pay our respects and leave some flowers.

Tonight I am making a tuna casserole. I havenít had one in a very long time. It is not something I grew up with, but I do enjoy it. My recipe has zucchini in it and cheese Ė lots of cheese.

Our nice sunny weather is over and it is raining today. At least that mean I donít have to water my potted plants and flowers for a couple of days. It also means I canít transplant the bedding plants I got yesterday at Home Depot. I have no desire to get drenched and coated in mud, so will wait for a dry day.

This week is playing out rainy... Which, IMO is a bit more pleasant than temps in the 80's! -- I find it interesting, that in our core family of 5, that 3 of us prefer temps in the 60's-70's.

Still managing to get out the door for at least 20 min every single day to walk. Today marks Day #42.
emoticon
I have an appt. on Wed. & another on Fri. Also going to check in on my friend whose spouse is receiving treatment for Stage 4 throat cancer. (It's crazy! Her mom had it. Her brother had it. And now her spouse.)
emoticon
I'm heading back to my sewing room to try to finish 2 quilt tops today. They've been on the "drawing board" for several weeks. Just haven't pushed myself...too easy to simply do nothing.
emoticon
Also, need to get some bread made again. We are all out. I had some egg salad fixin's that finished up the last loaf.
emoticon
Hope you are finding some "good" in every day. Step by step.... moving onward.

What a beautiful weekend we are enjoying Ė lots of warm sunshine and blue sky Ė much better than the snow my sister out east in Ontario had today and yesterday. I spent some time outside sweeping off the back deck, watering plants, and transplanting my herbs. Earlier in the week I picked up a parsley, oregano, thyme, and rosemary plants. I do like to use the fresh herbs when cooking Ė when I remember.

Enjoy your weekend, whatever your weather.

Went to my favourite garden centre/nursery today to get some planters and hanging baskets; took one look at the exceptionally long line to get into the centre and made a very quick exit. I am sure the line would have taken close to a couple of hours to get through. So I made a trip to Wal-Mart instead and found some nice looking planters and baskets. I bought a trunk full of plants and now they are brightening up my back deck. It was a beautiful sunny day today Ė simply perfect for playing in dirt and flowers.

Not sure what is stressing me out today. After an outing to the garden centres I am usually pretty relaxed, but so far I have demolished half a box of chocolates. I guess it is time to get out the journal and start looking inside to see what is going on.

My lovebird and I are getting along better Ė no major biting episodes for the last couple of days. I think I am a little nervous around her Ė not a fan of being bitten Ė and I think she senses this and is a little anxious of me too. Today we chilled out for a half hour and I let her crawl all over me and just tried to keep calm and cool. My big fear is that she will bite my face or ears. If I am wearing earrings she likes to nibble on them so I have to remember to take them off before we have any close encounters.

Hope everyone is making great plans for the weekend.

Glad you are keeping in touch @JINLYNN Hopefully you are calling your friends that you had been having lunch with...back when we could.
I personally, would still do it, but so many of my friends have significant health issues and are quite afraid about contact in person. -- Though I did know 2 couples who were trying to figure out a way to still play cards...at a distance! emoticon
It is a "big deal" for one of the 4. He was diagnosed w/ Stage 4 throat cancer & is receiving weekly treatments.
emoticon
I went out today to respond to new grocery ads. It would seem that if one doesn't "jump" on it at the beginning of the ad, then they are most often out of stock when I normally would go shop, in-between jobs (then...not now).

Since I'm not going anywhere much & don't need work clothes nor gas, I'm not spending what is coming in via unemployment. So I got some items to donate to the Salvation Army for others in more need than I. Turns out it was a great choice for items that they could make good use of.
emoticon
Anyway, I got the lawn mowed yesterday. Rain showers are here today...and then supposed to be in the 80's by Fri/Sat/Sun. I'm supposed to meet up w/ a friend & go hiking. We just haven't decided where to go.
emoticon
Personally, I'm more a fan of all things 60's-70's. But we get what we get...........

They say it's "hump" day... but right now that just seems like some form of "middle" between 2 stretches of "nothing"....Sigh.

Today I am making bread again. My mom seems to enjoy it and she often doesnít feel like eating so it is nice to have something to tempt her with. Made meat loaf last night and it was delicious.

There was quite a sever thunder and lightening storm here last night with such heavy rain. I was glad that we had the gutters cleaned yesterday afternoon as there was such a lot of runoff on the roof. Today the landscapers crew is here doing a back-yard cleanup and weeding of my flower beds. I get them to come every spring and fall to do the big jobs and then I just putter around in it. I am planning to go to the nursery tomorrow and pick up some planters and seedlings. I am so looking forward to getting my hands dirty.

Well hope everyone is doing great.

emoticon Just been thinking that I need to keep in touch with my teams on a more consistent basis as it is a good way to stay motivated and to help others feel encouraged and supported too.

That is a beautiful photo Aura18. Thanks for sharing it.

I haven't been to Costco since the quarantine/stay at home started and hearing about the lineups makes me glad I have. I do get out and go grocery shopping when I get my respite days. On the way home I pick up something for my lunch. I miss not being able to meet with friends for lunch, but hopefully this will not last forever, although it is beginning to feel like forever.

So far my family and friends are keeping well, and I hope that all of you are too.

Take care and stay safe. emoticon

Nice idea, Berry!

Hello Aura18! Good to see u!

Hi, Jin!

emoticon

Been doing a little better. Been using my time to do very small tasks, including planting a small bush here and there in the yard. I have an overall plan, and think the plants that are coming will work well. They are just small, and won't look like much until the plants take off. Keeping things simple and easy upkeep type of plants.

Been fighting off a virus that keeps coming back. Made me so exhausted! I knew that being in the sun fighting with a shovel would make me feel better though.

It is a choice to give up and stay in bed, or plant one plant and fight with the shovel with clay dirt with plenty of roots and some rocks.

I choose movement! Yesh, as Mooch the cat would say from "Mutts," which is a great comic strip by the way.

emoticon @AURA18 What a lovely picture!

I'm thinking we can start a thread for each month with goals that we want to work on? -- Does that sound like something people would like to participate in?

I will start it up & see if anyone checks it out... Please contribute if that works for you!

Yeah. I'm struggling to function on many levels. I'd really rather just stay in bed & sleep or watch TV. Definitely NOT productive.

The ONE positive is that I have walked every single day this month. 19x's in 19 days!
emoticon
My weight is up. And I'm on a "see"food diet.

Sigh!

Even when things "open", I won't have a job to go to. Who knows how things will play out all around the world?? This isn't a quick bounce-back from all these levels of INSANITY.

I just keep wondering who or where anyone was "promised" that anyone else could guarantee anyone else's "being safe". There just are NO guarantees.
(I'm assuming if you think I'm flawed in my thinking, that you do not drive a car?!)

Your mom is beautiful, jin!

Thanks for the link, berry.

I've been Mia too. Got a little sick there for a while.

Today, I finally got on my recumbent bike and did 20 minutes (4 miles) which is my longest workout ever on that particular bike. I used to do 50 min workouts but that was long ago. I felt tired at five minutes, but had Spotify so I was able to keep going.

Glad you posted an update @JINLYNN
That's pretty amazing about your mum! emoticon

So as of Wed. 4/8, I have approached 300 fitness min. (all walking). I am 8 for 8 in walking every day.
emoticon
Another team that I'm a part of challenged us to walk at least 20 min each day this month & have 2 fruits. -- That seemed quite "doable" for me. It was what I needed to push off and do something for my health. (I've gained 6+ lbs since the "lockdown"/quarantine started.)
emoticon
Also, on Wed. I finally got back into my sewing room & completed a child's quilt top using a panel w/ borders. I don't know if I will get it quilted. Right now, I've set it aside (w/ the backing) to take when we finally start back to "life" & living instead of being all cooped up.
