Hadn't seen this thread. Hi to you all. I live in New Zealand so everything is back to front. Its spring here and things are warming up. I sure hope those of you in California that are effected by the fires are keeping safe.

Judy, you have had quite a time of it. So happy to hear you made it through and are recuperating. Positive thoughts for a fast recovery. I know the physical therapy following knee surgery is painful but it is so worth it. Keep smling.

The wild fires in California have been terrible. So many people have lost their homes.
I know I have been missing in action! In September, I was at the PEO international convention and became very ill. I had my son take me to the ER. The doc came in and felt my stomach and said I had a bowel blockage. He ordered a CTScan and that was being caused by a hernia. He immediately called in a surgeon who pushed and pushed and was able to get the hernia reduced, which helped the blockage a lot. No surgery that night but the following Wednesday I had hernia surgery! After the doc finished he told my son that he found another hernia on the other side. When I saw him I said oh! 2 for the price of one! The following Tuesday I was scheduled to have my right knee replacement surgery. The doctors talked and agreed I was good to go! Iím now recuperating at my sons. Tomorrow will be one week since that surgery!

I went to our house on the coast for what was to be three days. Heavy winds came up causing wild fires. Cal Trans closed freeways back to my home in the desert. I waited for 3 days to be able to drive home. My freeway ramp was still closed due to the wild fire so I had to go through all the stop lights to bypass the burn area and get to my freeway. There are two wild fires raging in southern CA. One is slightly north and a little west of LA and the other east. The fires are taking out homes. Very sad.

Have a tremendous Thursday, all you Savvy Seniors.

I am still trying to regulate dosage of med for migraines. I get the dosage high enough to prevent the headaches and have annoying side affects. My doctor has started me over with the lowest dose for a week and then up it one tablet for a week to see if my body will adjust to the med.

I am working through this to do my ST exercises with my personal trainer twice a week.
Seeing good results. But the med for migraines has my weight all over the place going up and down in a down by 5 or 6 pounds.

23 days until I see the surgeon in Des Moines. The appointment was made in mid June. The surgeon I saw here said I need a fusion of L 4 and he wasnít able to tell about the 2 below! At this time, Iím so ready to get it done! Iíve had quite a few injections and I really am done with that! ( I said that in July ,too but have had 3 injections since!). I do keep moving but at a slow pace. Right now I can walk for about 5 minutes at a time!

SP articles say when that happens to change things up. Change the number of calories per day and the exercise routine. Seems to work for me. I have to drop below the number of calories SP gives as my minimum and up my cardio minutes to get off the plateau. When that stops working, I go back to my regular routine for a while and then drop back. At least keeps me from gaining between losing streaks.

Hi. I do the same thing. I lose about 5 lbs. and then hit a plateau. Stay there for weeks before I lose another 5 lbs. But in the long run doing that I have lost 50 lbs. and am close to goal. So do not get discouraged.

Well I ended up in the hospital from a reaction to an antibiotic. It started with ear infections and an UTI. I am out now and doing better but had to take it easy for a week because all my electrolytes were haywire and my potassium was way low.

Have a great day everyone.

I have been feeling kinda stuck, lately. So I went and looked at my Saavy Team Challenge Forum Measure and Maintain page and I put in this week's weigh -in. Although I am inching along right now, it really helped to see how far I have come and gave me a morale boost. So, I might be going slow, but at least I am going forward!!! I noticed I have been losing more then losing less in a kind of rythym. It seems my body equalizes itself at each plateau. When I change up my routine, I go down to another plateau. Don't get discouraged when your scale is not showing much change! Your body is adjusting. Keep following your healthy habits! Maybe change up your strength or cardio a little to give you and your body something new to focus on and don't forget the non-scale victories!!!! Even if the biggest one you notice is you are sticking with a new healthy habit! Keep going! Keep Sparking! Keep positive! You are working toward a healthier you!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

DEE - It is hard to break that habit of eating late. This January I decided that 7:30 PM was my cut off time. It was so hard some nights I had to go to bed an hour earlier just to stop thinking about it. I weaned my self off by having one dill pickle at 7:30 (salty) which made me drink a lot of water. Sometimes I would eat a few green olives at 7:30 PM (again salty) water water.

It took me three months to kick that habit. January, Feb & March! But I did it. It will get easier.
I changed my bedtime to no later than 11 PM every night. This helped a lot. You can do it.

I have been tacking my food intake. I don't eat after 7:00 p.m. (just startled a few days ago) this has been hard as I usually eat something, fruit, nuts, now I just drink water.

I don't exercise a lot, but I do get in a 30 min walk on most days. Weight loss is very slow for me. I only get on the scale once a week because I am in a weigh loss challenge group.

You ladies hang in there, we can do this

JUDY What type of surgery do you need? I hope all is going well for you.

JOMAMA - I hope by now you are back on track with that fluctuating 2 pounds. Use less salt and drink more water. I lose very slow too. I lose about one pound every two weeks so I do understand how you feel. Hand in there!

DEE losing 10 pounds in three months is very do able. If you lose one pound every week you make it with 2 extra pounds lost!

Thank you all! My overall goal is now to loose 15 pounds. I had lost over 80 pounds 4 years ago, and I put on 30 last year due to stress not that it is an excuse. Thankfully I did not regain most of the weight I lost. Since last year, I did drop about 17 pounds of the re-gain. 15 more and I will be where I want to be, but it is really slow!

JOMAMA- If you were on plan then it is just water weight. That happens a lot to me because I eat salty food. But if you drink a lot of water it will just flush out that salt and you should see a big drop next time you are on the scale. The more water the better. I have had a 5 - 8 pound increase from water retention but it usually only lasts 1 -2 days. Don't let that throw you off.

I wonder if any one else has this crazy way of thinking???? Recently I went to 2 events - a retirement celebration and graduation party. I stuck to my food plan, and passed up on breads, carbs, cakes, cookies and sugary drinks that I would have really enjoyed!!! So my crazy way of thinking is that I should have definitely lost a few pounds this week because I gave up eating things that I enjoy! Instead I gained 2 pounds!!!! Grrrr How does this happen? I feel discouraged, but I am not going to give up. Overall I did loose 10 pounds in 5 weeks, so I probably should not be complaining. But I feel that I should be rewarded by weight loss for passing on the goodies!

Had a great Dr. Appointment yesterday with my family practice Dr. She agreed with me that surgery was the right decision and that I should be where I have family. My records have all been sent and she gave me copies of all my meds and labs so I can take those with me. She also gave me a medication that helps with nerve pain. I hope it works like she hoped it would

I still work in my yard here (we own a duplex and live in one side. Once we decide the other place is ready, we will move out and rent this side we live in. I've made it very nice for renters! HUGE back yard and large deck. No idea what to charge).

I am also facing knee surgery August 8, and not sure I can do much of anything until that is healed. How long do knees take to work again?

My name is Jeanne (pronounced Jean ee); I live in eastern Washington State.

It is so quiet in here. I guess everyone is so busy they can't post?
I have been working a little every day to get my flower garden weed free and enjoying the time in the sun. I need that vitamin D from the sun.

The rain has finally stopped here in PA and we are enjoying some beautiful days.
Hope you all have a great Friday.

Hey that is cool, jumping rope. Brings back good memories of my childhood when most of my play days were spent outside jumping rope. Two people to hold the ends and spin and the rest of us jumping. And double dutch too. I loved jumping rope.

I don't think I can do it anymore for any length of time. Enjoy!

Good job! Even in all the daily things we do there is room for exercise. and also there is care to be taken not to get injured. Especially as we age. Thanks for sharing.

The past few weeks I've been incorporating calisthenics with they way I move about while doing housework and gardening . I've been making sure that I bend and walk in the rhythmic ways that I use during exercises. Moving text books and sets of novels, dusting them, placing them in new order on dusted shelves gave me much motion in my arms and bending at the waist and knees, being careful to lift correctly. I feel stronger since I've been being careful how I move my muscle groups to do general daily chores. emoticon

Just finished the 16 week Challenge! i could not believe 16 weeks had gone by. I actually cried when i saw the results. I started it at 240 lbs. and today at my weigh-in I saw 216. I have not seen a number like that in years! I am so happy! So onward I go! I am almost to the halfway point of the first 50lb goal I set. Gonna start a new 16 week Challenge. Maybe I will be at the 50lbs. lost goal by the end of my second 16 week Challenge! Slow and steady, but forward! I can do this! Especially with the help and support of all you Sparkers! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello. We finally have a beautiful sunny day after almost a month of rainy days. It has been in the chilly 40's but today it is up to 75 degrees. Nice.

Two weeks ago our when we had a rare hot day of 80 degrees our central A/C unit stopped working. So yesterday we had a new one installed. The old one lasted twenty years so I guess we're good for the next twenty. Thank goodness it hasn't been extremely hot yet here in PA.

How is everyone doing?

Good Morning. It is so rainy and dreary here for the last two days. Yesterday I spent the day reading a good book and enjoying some homemade escarole soup.
Today I have a hair appointment so I will get out for awhile. Do some walking around the mall too. Have a nice day everyone.

I spent the day with friend from Tenn. We haven't seen each other in three years. Dinner, games and hunt at her parent's home. It was foggy, cold and windy. Low key, enjoyable day.

I spent Thursday with my kids and grands. Youngest daughter worked today. Oldest daughter and grands return to school tomorrow.

Heading to bed since I have blood tests in the morning.

Hello Everyone. Have a nice visit Della.
We are getting a little taste of spring here this week. Weather is getting nicer in the 40's and should have good weekend weather for the Easter holiday.

No big plans this year for Easter just me and husband. DD and family went to Washington DC for the weekend. DS and family went to Boston for holiday. So I don't need to cook.

I had a wonderful drive to my sisters. No snow at all and even rolled the window down a little to enjoy the fresh air. My nephew set me up so I can use my tablet while here so hope to check in every day. I lost my 200+ days of logging in as I did not get on last night. So hereís to day 1 lol.
Hope all of you are having a relaxing day and spring like weather. My sister and I will be going for a walk so that will help.

Safe travels Della. Hope there is no more snow for you and clear roads ahead.
Our last snow storm was a few weeks ago and it was a doozie. No power for two weeks. Ate what ever was in the house so fell off my diet plan but now I am back strong. Finally back on computer too. I think it is finally going to be spring here. I am so over seeing snow!

I cleaned my sock drawer a few months ago. I use old socks to polish furniture and shoes and toss when it becomes dirty.

Being sick really does in the exercise and steps. I start coughing every time I move. Drinking tea and sleeping a lot. Taking tomorrow off in hopes it will not stick around.
Hope all of you are doing well and pushing through one step at a time.

I like breaking up my steps. I will walk for10min or until I hit 1,000 steps. I donít tire out so fast and I feel it gets my body to working for longer periods.

Good Morning everyone.

Doing little bits of exercise during the day works just as well as one lump sum. It also can be as simple as getting up and doing the dishes.

Hope your test turn out positive to you my friend.
