Just to be clear .. I was only talking about building the muscle, which can change the shape; however, burning fat is something you'll have to do until it redistributes itself.

Taking one day, one hour, one minute at a time, building on previous successes, learning from my failures.

by toning the area, it will look reduced--you can lose inches because the muscles are more toned. But you're not going to be able to tell your body "burn the fat off from here". (just another way of wording it...you all have already got the right idea! lol.)

You can certainly tone and firm up different muscles. What doesn't happen is the fat turn into muscle. So even tho you can't "spot reduce", you can really add tone and firmness to your problem areas. Pam

I thought squats and lunges helped tone the glutes. I'm not an exercise expert by any means ... but I know when I do those two exercises the muscles there tighten up.

There isn't really a way to target and certain area. Boy I wish there was I carry all my weight in my tummy I'm a total Apple shape. Maybe add some bridge-ups, they are supposed to help tighten the tush! Sorry I couldn't be better help.

great job on the weight. i agree that it's pretty much genetic, but I think this pilates move has toned me up in that area. Tie a flat exercise band around both legs just above the knees. Lie on one side, knees bent. Keeping feet together, raise top knee 20 times, repeat on other side. Good luck, Pam

Yay for you losing 35 lbs.!!!!

I would think some lower body exercises would help. Also, I would recommend yoga. Definitely!

Good luck, and good on ya!

Well done you! What about gently massaging/kneading the area to break down the fatty deposits? My mother was a stewardess in the "olden days" and they were told to bounce their bottoms off walls to break down deposits. She has no bum! ;-) Probably all myth - but perhaps worth a shot? emoticon

You don't have control over it. Your body places and removes fat where it wants to. The more fat you lose, the more places you will find it missing, but it's all genetic.

not sure..when it comes to losing weight, you lose it all over (fairly) evenly...you probably lose it in the reverse order of what it came on in. Any cardio will do for losing weight, even if it uses a completely different area of the body.

Now, you can work on toning an area by strength training. I'm not sure if there are any that really target that area, but you could try some exercises that target the glutes (or the butt, in general) and the low back, as that would be the two main surrounding areas. Toning, while not losing weight, does make a difference because it makes the inches go down.

My problem??
I have lost weight in my lower butt (LOL) but the top part of my butt still looks like a spare tire!! Is there any good exercise that will help me lose that area??

Thanks in advance!
