Nudge (my cat) My great grandson named him before I ever met him so I kept his name as Nudge. I guess my great grandson named him that because he takes his nose and nudges your hand to pet him. Nudge is back to my house after spending several days at the vet's. I had him declawed they gave him flea stuff and all his shots. Now home recovering and getting used to not having claws. He sleeps most of the day and night. He snuggles with me at night and stays there all nigh. In fact he is still on my bed.

Turning really cold here today so I am staying home.

I agree with the cat. Itís hibernation time.
I donít go out unless I have to. Itís look ahead time to Christmas I donít do much now itís money as family gifts , the card list gets smaller each year. I have ordered some outdoor lights to put in an outdoor tree in the front garden they are battery powered and on a time setting. I think that should look festive.
I know its a busy time. I hope you are all well. Irene

The cat is company but he also is a pest. Nosy and checking out everything. On top of the cabinets, dining room table and etc. He likes to climb behind the blinds in the windows and sits looking out. He knocked down a curtain so I took down the curtains and washed them. Been over six years so I guess it was time. My son in law came and hung them back up for me. I am going to have the cat declawed next week, he scratches on everything. I do have a couple scratching boards that he also uses. He sleeps with me most every night. I have to shut the bedroom door or he roams the house and knocks things off. I think I am going to take all the extra stuff off the cabinets, island and table. Nothing broken yet but I sure it will happen. He hides probably just because he is so curious. I keep him inside so not much chance of him running away. I did let him out for a little while this morning but I guess he thought it was too cold outside and he came right back in.

emoticon This really looks like him.

My daughter is bringing me a cat today. She and her husband always said I did not need a cat or dog. But now they are the ones that asked if I would keep him. This is a cat that showed up at camp this summer and a lady in town took him. Now this lady is moving to be close to her DH who is in the rest home. My daughter says this cat is really sweet and used to being in the house. It is too cold to let him outside. I worry about my furniture and carpets but she thinks he will be okay. I like cats but not sure I want to be tied down to a litter box. I can't let him out as he is not used to my town and other cats in the neighborhood might pose as a problem. Help!!

Good morning on Nov 8th. I am still here. , plodding on. Before Christmas though we do t do Thanksgiving in uk there Is Remberance Sunday. Parades and events to honour the veterans and present forces . I find the parades so emotional now.

Next Saturday is my grandsons wedding. Jacob and Carlotta are marrying.
they have bought a house to move into and been busy getting it as they want it. But just had a set back. Aspbestos has been found in the ceilings. They have to be taken down by experts as it is dangerous. Looks like they will be camping in which ever room is alright.
They are a very laid back couple and take it all in their stride.
Then thereís a general election here in December. I am boredwith all the politics and childish behaviour already ,
I hope you are well friends. Irene

As I prepare for Thanksgiving at my house this year I was thinking of Christmas decorations that my granddaughter thinks should be put up. My house holds more people and I also have a garage that has space for tables and chairs. So Thanksgiving dinner is usually here. Some times we set up the food in the garage and serve from them, other times the food goes on my island in my kitchen.I will have between 20 ti 30 or more. My granddaughter makes a list of food what every one is to bring so we will have all the basics, the rest that come bring "pot luck". Back to Christmas decorations. I have a huge wreath that my brother in law made years ago my son in law will hang it out on front of the house probably at Thanksgiving. As far as a tree I am sure my granddaughter will insist that the one in a box in the garage comes in to be decorated and then there are the stockings for everyone. I too and glad when it is over, I would just as soon escape it all. We do have not buying presents, I think the great grand kids draw names but this year only two families so I guess they will work that out. I usually give the great grands money and my granddaughter will fill the stockings with stuff. Last year my daughter and granddaughter had the adults bring something (cake, cookies & etc,) then they have a food walk around the island in my kitchen. When the music stops they draw a number and if it is the number you are on , you get a pick of the things that each one brought.Again it is at my house and I think they the plan is soup and sandwiches for lunch but that is up to my daughter and granddaughter. They tell each family what to bring, only be around 16 counting kids, grands and great grands. Lots of fun and noise. My granddaughter is my son's daughter so she is niece to my daughter. They work good together.

Hi. I know just what you mean Dot. Itís little things that sneak up on us. I went to put my cup on the table in the kitchen .some how I missed. Oh how many tiny pieces can one mug produce . I was barefooted so we t to get something on my feel. When I came back
Mike was sweeping the chard's together. He didnít say a wird luckily . I felt bad enough without comments
Your brother is amazing up ladders in his nineties
Re christmas! Mike goes to his family. Itís one time I give in and go to stay at another sons home fir a few days. Each year Christmas things go less. No one is here so I donít do much. I have always put ups very small tree up. But thinking of giving that away ,I do put cards on display but they go fewer each year , I donít want to be Scrooge like but I am usually glad when Christmas is over. Enjoy this day and every day. Hello all,

I was thinking today and one of my thoughts was about being in my 80ís and what was the very worse thing about that? Every year that passes we all become a year older....What will that new year mean for you and I. I suddenly realized that a new year is once again breathing down our necks....holidays are coming at this point I am 88, I need help now to bring in the Christmas tree from the garage and son will put the three pieces together...and decorate the top of the tree. David has been doing this for the last six years.

Ever since my children decided that I could no longer use a step ladder when decorating the tree. No body wants me to fall...I talked to my brother in England and just learned he was shaping up an apple tree in his beautiful English garden and he found himself lying on his back in the grass...The ladder came apart on him. This accident has caused him a great deal of pain and agrevation. He is 94 and feel so bad for him. But realize that we have to consider our age and realize we cannot ignore our age and continue to do things the older we get. . change is hard !

What changes have you had to make since you moved into your 80.s

God Bless,
love,
Dot

Stopping in to say hello. Not much going on here today, it is very cold and I plan to stay inside. I have an appointment at 10 to go over my insurance but I think I am going to have to cancel. I am always so afraid of falling. I may be slick out this morning under foot. I will know more as it get light outside. I will copy this and put it on Anyone over 70.

I won't post often but I will check in when I can. I also have osteo arthritis in my knees and it hurts to walk but I keep going. At this point surgery is not an option as far as I am concerned. I use a walker at times and probably should more. It is hard to load and unload it into the car. This morning I am up early, I tried to go back to sleep but finally gave up. Today is a health fair in the next town across the border and my son in law wants to go at 7:30. They live there but I will have to leave here by 7 to get there. It will still be dark and I hate getting out in the cold especially that early. But lab is free for my age and I want to go. I could go later but I will go when they want to go as I will go by and go with them.

40 degrees, I better go turn off the alarm that is set for 5 and get dressed.

Hi Marlene....Welcome to 80 team. Shirley was the leader and started this team. She lost her husband which bought about changes for her and she asked if I would take over 80 team. As you know I am already a leader on your Anyone Over 70.team. Have never gotten 80 team off the ground. Irene and I and occasionally another person write our messages. I donít know what will happen when we quit. Right now I donít have time to devote to the team..

Recently I have been having difficulty getting into Spark People and have gotten the problems solved...I hope! Now I am having health problems I am 88 now and fell on my stairs, my knees are killing me and I just arranged Physical Therapy appointments with the hope they will help to get me back to normal..

So that is the story on the 80ís team Marlene. So glad you joined Irene and I and hope to hear from you again.
All the very best to you,
Dot

Hi, I am new to this forum but I do know a couple that are posting here. They are on my Anyone Over 70 group that I started almost 10 years ago. I think there would be more here if we did not have to go through the place to join, I have not seen that before. On the over 70 group new ones just start by posting a message.

As some of you know I am 84, live in Oklahoma USA and do not post regularly. You can check out my SparkPage for more information about me.

Hello friends. Itís a big event now if we canít chat in our teams , Sparks often rejects me on early mornings here in Uk. I think they do work in the site at night in USA
I am ok thanks. Plodding on. My last scan showed I am stable. Stable is good. I take one day at a time , itís getting cooler now with dark mornings and evenings. Mike my son mainly works outdoors. Heís getting jobs done when itís dry and in day light. Heís good company when heís here we share a sense of humour which helps us get on .b. living with someone who isnít your partner can be difficult.
I found he was keeping family things back from me. As I would only worry. My reply was I worry when I am not told things. Tell me, I am not made of glass , I can cope , heís better now at being open with me.
Look after yourselves ladies. We need each other. Irene

Hi Irene and Lily, My Email has been giving me a problem on all my Chat groups. Have not been able to get into any of Spark People. For once the Over 80 age group is allowing me to type a message. So first must tell you that I am not forgetting you and keep trying to get back to normal on my teams. So very sorry you have not heard from me. Will keep writing when I can.

Irene I keep up with you on 70, sometimes they let me in their. So I will send you a message every once in a while. Hope you are doing okay with the cancer treatment. Think of you every day and pray for you. You are on my get well list...

Yesterday I went to see the Movie Downton Abbey it was very good and I did enjoy it. My Niece Laura's and Sister Eileen went with me. It was so much fun. Hope you get to see the Movie...It involves the Royals staying at Downton abbey for a few days and the big mess that caused.with the down stairs people. Loved Grandma and her one liners. The clothes were stunning...Well do go to see it...Definitely worth it.

Love to you and Lily love your picture.

Good Morning Irene,

The Alz test your husband was given.. was the same one I have been given every year.
I do the drawing test and I am not an artist by any means...but it is good enough. so far I have been okay. I am always a little nervous when I realize they are starting into the Alz testing. It is one of my fears that I am loosing it. Right now I appear to be of sound mind. Although my memory is sometimes a bit slower.

Just listened to President Trump give his speech at The United Nations. It covered everything and I thought it was a good speech. The world in some places have much to be desired. It seems that This country plans to do trade deals with the U.K. what do you think of your new Prime Minister...I am getting a bang out of his hair styles. Hope every thing works well for the U.K.

Well have to get busy today. Have some bookwork to do and need to go to the grocery store.

Hope the rain stopped and the sun is shining. have a great day.
Love,
Dot

Hi Dot on Tuesday I sat in on dementia tests with my husband. He struggled with the three items. I suggested next time he sees the three items in his mind. Make a picture of the three items . I think his three were apple , pen and desk. I suggested he sees the apple and pen sat on the desk. One he loved was draw a clock with the time at ten to 4 or what ever. He was an artist he could do that. His mind retained painting and drawing all along. I left him with a Carer one day while I went the dentist. When I came home he was sat at the table with the Male Carer teaching him how to draw. I am glad he retained something he loved. He always knew me too though not others. His favourite grand daughter became ďthat nice little girl who visits us ď
Showers ? Yes they are done here. now. I did go to one a few years back.
We have rain showers too ! Rain forecast all this week . Mikes got a full book of gardening appointments , he will work in showers but canít cut grass etc.
Itís early yet and is raining , an old saying was. Rain before 7 means fine before 11. Itís before 7 am now. Byeeee

Hi Irene, yesterday I hosted a baby shower for my niece. It was so much fun and I wore myself out but enjoyed all the guests.,..most were relatives or close friends. We started with putting up decorations on Saturday and I arranged the chairs on Sunday morning. I had my cleaning lady on Friday but stil had the bathrooms to put to rights. The two hosts bought the food and it was all so good. The shower started at 2:00 everyone was having such a good time visiting the we did not start the shower until 4:30...the games and opening of gifts by the expectant Mother.

Do you have showers in England now? When I came to America in 1951 to marry. I met my husbands best friend who was married. His wife got friends of hers together and gave me a shower. She also gave the baby showers for each of my children. She was a very good friend to me when I needed one

I see my doctor every six months. One of those appointments is for a yearly physical. At that time her nurse gives me the Alz tests. It is a veriety to see how you do. One of them she named three items to remember, continues with the testing and then unexpected asked what the three items I was supposed to remember. I could only remember two of them...everything else was perfect. my testing will be coming up again in October...I am determine to remember all three of those items.

Hope you had a good weekend. I am resting up and chatting today.
All the best,Dot

Good Sunday morning Irene may I say that I am delighted you are still plodding along. What a wonderful inspiration you are always! The Father loves to hear your beautiful prayers of thanks each new day.

I stayed home today just could not wake myself up to get to church. I had a sleepless night awake until 4:00 am and finally got to sleep, woke up at 8:00am and have been dragging all morning. The church was making a donation today to go to the Hurricane victims...it is going to be a long hard struggle to rebuild all that has been destroyed. I cried for them, realizing that we who live in Florida really were blessed, thanking God for His mercy in sparing us. People are really giving and I only hope that the Food, Water, clothes and house hold items plus the money in the millions... now will get to them. It will be lovely to see the island rebuilt, so many are now living with relatives in Florida. it is all going to take a long time to rebuild.

My love to you Irene, Lily, Jean and anyone I have forgotten. Stop in and join us in the chat.

Hello ladies. So glad to see you on here. We need breaks at times to focus on other things I know.
We saw on tv the detestation the hurricane left behind , dreadful. I hope they are receiving more help now.
Here in Uk itís the last blast of summer so the weather forecasters say. I like Autumn.
I am ok. Still here as I say, plodding on and I give a prayer of thanks each morning for a new day . Stay well.

Lily, I have been praying over the hurricane....the only thing I can do...those poor people. My church is collecting and giving to them tomorrow morning. I will be giving and continue to pray for them. It is so sad...

Hope you are doing well Lily do think of you and hope that you will drop in now and again.

Hi everyone,
Good evening, As of 8:00am edt this morning, Tropical Storm Humberto is still heading to the Bahamas. Pray it will turn. Those people have endured enough for a lifetime.

As of 5 p.m., Sunday, Humberto, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, was about 70 miles east-northeast of Great Abaco Island, moving northwest at 7 mph.

Well we have to take note of the storm brewing toward Florida....it has not been named at this point and they donít expect it will amount to much...but....I have been through a couple of these no named storms that once left Florida got a name and were a pretty nasty storm.

Hope your day has not been to bad Irene....Know that it is a hospital day for you, those can be so very tiring. Thinking and praying for you.

I returned to church for the second time on Sunday. And received a Prodical Son welcome.
I needed the time to heal and to seek a closer walk with my Lord. Now I wait upon the lord..

God Bless you,
❤️,Dot

Hello girls on Tuesday. A blue sky but itís cool. I am on the end of the second round of meds. Tomorrow I go to hospital to have general chat , then start again on next round. Between meds I have a bit more energy so I am making an effort to clear my craft unit. Itís in my bedroom and becomes a dumping place for anything.
I have said I make sensory blankets. Thereís a group of us but I started it and run the group, I am now in midst of handing over to someone else. Sheís got more energy than I have. I want to still knit but not do paperwork. I started clearing up but had to come to sit down in the living room. i canít sit and do nothing ,so i chat on line.
Take care.

Thank you Lily. We stayed safe through Dorian. We are still waiting for it to do its turn and then for us the storm will be over more or less,It has been a beautiful day for the west you would never know a hurricane s hiding on the other side. These storms are nerve racking. We moved to Florida in1956 and I thought the storms were exciting. We bought a home in a
NON flooding area. I was a busy, stay at home Mom. Preparation for a Hurricane, found me doing a lot of baking.

This is the second message I have written. Lost and written again. It just popped up. You might get another message and it will not be the same. I am ready to eat somethingAll the. Best to Irene and you Lily

Good morning, Irene. Here in the USA we have a holiday. It is Labor Day. The last day for people to run off to the beaches along the eastern coast but not this day. Hurricane Dorian has stopped that. My son and daughter-in-law are going to Galveston today. It is located in the Gulf of Mexico off the Texas coast. I donít trust the models. Dorian could decide it wants the warmer water which is the Gulf of Mexico.

I donít know if Dot will be able to Chat with us today. I am in Texas far from Dorian. I will be here if you want to Chat. Take good care of yourself. Listen to your primary doctor. No falling. We are The Three Musketeers . All for one and one for all. Love, Lily.

Good morning everyone. It is Sunday, the first day of September, 2019.

I am watching the National Weather now. Hurricane Dorian Category 5 winds up to 180 mph heading for the Bahamas. When and if it turns as predicted, parts of Florida, up the coast of several our beautiful beaches will feel the in-pack.
I am praying it will turn out to sea now. emoticon

Be safe, Dot, Lily

One of SparkPeople lives in the Bahamas. In her words-
A hurricane is approaching the Bahamas. We are a series of island and the one I am on is surrounded by other islands, so unless the eye of the storm lines up just right we are usually caught by the outskirts of the storm - which can still be quite horrible. However, our sister islands - Abaco and Grand Bahama don't have any shelter and it is predicted that the eye will pass over if not very close to them - so they are under Hurricane Warning. The storm - Dorian is expected to pass around 4 am on Sunday. So we will all be windy and wet. Because we are low lying (flat) the sea surges are expected. So the rains will come down and the sea will come up - the proverbial caught between a rock and hard place or the sea and the sky. It's all quite stressful.

It is the last day of August and we are in the middle of a Hurricane. Have been glued to the TV program that gives us the weather news.... It has slowed down and sits ready to hit the eastern side of The state of Florida. It is good for our western side or the state. This storm has really changed its mind numerous times in the last few days. Moving here and there. It will have to make up its mind over the weekend. Especially since we are expecting finally move on, we still Donít know what it is going to do on Tuesday morning.

Have to get to bed. Going to go to church tomorrow morning. my dear niece is going with me.

Bless everyone I would asked for your prayers to move this hurricane where it cannot hurt anyone or a I property.
All the best.

Hello on Sunday. I hope you are well. This is my 350th day of logging into Sparks. I must get the Ap. It would be easier.
I am ok thanks. Still taking bp figures twice daily. I am to take them back to the local doctor on Wednesday ,
Once I get into a routine with things I am ok. I like a routine. Itís needed as we grow older. We canít forget things then. I get annoyed with myself when I forget a word or name. Itís there but wonít come out. But we keep trying. Thatís best I think , not to give up
Mikes been to see his family this week, he is due home this morning. I miss him but know he needs his own space

Irene excellent that you went back to your Primary Care Doctor when you began to feel unwell.
She sounds like a winner! Glad you are off the medication that was causing the health problem. Do hope your B/P s getting under control. Glad you are feeling less breathless and unsteady....I would not worry to much with the low carb diet until you get your BP under control. I have to worry with that also. I take a reading every few days to make sure I am within the correct range. Have cut out all additional salt.

Love the blanket picture you posted...that is a marvelous help for all those that need these to keep there hands busy. you are meeting many needs.

Have to get myself showered and dressed...need stuff from the grocery store. Have a few hours of sunshine before the rains come again.

Wishing you all the very best.

Three musketeers we are then. We can get to know each other better with few of us.
Sorry I missed a couple of days. I didn't feel very well. I went to see my local doctor. . She was concerned as my heart beat is low and blood pressure too high. She told me some new pills for my heart was to blame. I had taken them to slow her. Right away she exclaimed they are so wrong for you ,do not take any more. A cardiologist prescribed them but as she said local local doctors know our patients better than hospital doctors ever do.
I came off these pills and have to take my own bp readings twice a day ,I go back in a week for a review .
I am starting to feel less breathless and not as unsteady. As we have said we can't risk falling .
Nothing todo with that but I have been in a low carb eating plan. I have only lost a pound but I feel my clothes are looser. I will plod on
Hope you are both well. I hope to keep up a bit better Irene

Lily, love the three musketeers and agree that we have to be careful. I have taken a few steps to make sure I donít fall especially on the stairs. I count the steps now as I. Go down and go up. Ever since my last fall I am making myself slow down....I am used to walking fast and have to slow myself down. love the picture of the musketeers a good reminder.

Take good care Lily and Irene.

Hello ladies on Tuesday. Just popping in for now , as my weekly home cleaner comes at 8 am.
A freak of falling is with us all I think . I had two falls but both times I tripped over something. I canít get up if I fall but wear a bracelet alarm to summon help.
I do not go out much in my own now as I am not confident enough . But keeping busy at home makes the days go by.
Will chat again soon. Warm wishes to all . Irene

Irene, you have been taking baby steps. That is a good start. You are feeling better and have starting cooking. You lost weight. Congratulations. You are walking. with your Mike. He is there if you need him to give you a hand. Your Mike is like my youngest son. He always there to help if I need it. I have fallen twice in the last month. Both times it took two men to get me back on my feet. I have such a fear of falling again. I am making an appointment with my primary doctor tomorrow. Maybe he can put back Humpty Dumpty together again. Lily

Wonderful that your bloodwork had good results and you are doing so well. Good luck with keeping your pills in the right order Irene, that sounds like such a chore. It is a good job that you know what you are doing. You are one amazing women. Praying that these pills will stop the cancer in itís track and that more will not be needed.

I also like breakfast meals...easy to cook. I am bad, always have bread with my eggs. Donít ear bacon anymore to much fat. Also love to fry up yesterday potatoes with my eggs. I just had
Toasted cheese and tomato sandwich for lunch with some white grapes and a small apple. I love fruit also.

I bought Baked chicken yesterday and will be eating on that for dinner, will have roasted veggies with it. Guess I will have a snack in a bit alway get hungry around 3/4 and have plenty of snack things to eat with a nice cup of tea.

All for now my dear, take good care of yourself.
Love, Dot

Hello on Thursday. Our bodies do not need as much food now as we are not doing much to burn up calories. A big plate of food just over faces me and then I do not want it. I find using a smaller plate works for me. There are very good ready meals now. Here , some will deliver to the house. I keep a few ready meals in for busy or tired days.
Breakfast has always been a good meal for me. Now it's alternate dayís of two boiled eggs no bread just eggs.
Then cereal the next day piled high with fruit. I like a banana day for magnesia. .
Yesterday it was a long wait at hospital then didnít see top man but one of his team. Really didnít say much. My blood results were all good. I felt well so itís basically carry on doing what i am doing now,
I have a lot of pills to sort out today. Itís a good job I know what I am doing as each one has different instructions on when to take them and for how long .I am going to sit at the table later with them and a list of what to take at various times and for how long. Then mark each one off the list as I have them. Phew. But they are keeping me alive.
Look after yourself . Irene

I just called my niece and sang Happy Birthday to her. She got a bang out of that. The family will be giving her a party on Sunday. But today the 13th is her birthday. We have had nothing but ran today...and I think I mentioned I don't drive in the rain if I can help it.

I have always found some of the Guys are our favorites because they are very careful, and go out of their way to not to hurt us any more than they have to. So glad you have one of those males to take your blood by being so gentle and caring. Know the oncologist will find only good things to say about the results.

Your food choices sound very tasty, and not like my put together cheese sandwich, or bowl of soup. I have been eating a bowl of cherrio's for breakfast...I have to get to the grocery store I am out of produce, and healthy foods. I will take note of your menu and start eating better.
I have always had a healthy appetite until very recently...now I have to push myself to eat. I do eat a very good evening meal, but my breakfast and lunch leave a lot to desire. I think I am tired of cooking too!

I am enjoying chatting with you, wishing you well. God Bless you Irene.

Hi Dot. We are still here chatting to each other.
Good Your kids choice for lunch is easy and enjoyable. Think I must get back to soups. Itís getting cooler weather now.
Lunch is usually salad some protein. Ham, chicken cheese , and bread rolls, in colder weather I add soup. One easy switch I made this week was change from big soft white rolls to wholemeal rolls they are more filling than white bread
For main meal I try to have half my plate of veg or salad. No desserts only fruit and Greek yoghurt.
I had bloods done yesterday. It was my favourite nurse. A male one heís so gentle with the needles and talks to you to distract you .
The samples go to the hospital I will be there tomorrow. The professor who is top oncologist will tell me the results. Usually good.
Enjoy your day. Irene

Good Monday Morning Irene" know this was your weekend to be by yourself. By now mike will be home and everything back to normal

Good luck with getting back to healthy eating and exercise. I know how hard that is sometime. We have to make ourselves plan and build ourselves up to taking the steps to doing what is. The right thing, to help us fight the Cancer in your case and tiredness in mine. Letís pray for each other to do this. I do have to go to the grocery store...making a list is a good way to get started.

My DD and DSIL are coming to visit on Wednesday...while they are here I am going to have them test the Mobilehelp stuff. You have to make them aware that you are testing the equipment otherwise the huge Fire engine shows up...the whole thing makes me nervous

I did not sleep well last night and did flop many times today. Do hope tonight I can sleep well.
Tomorrow I have to go to the grocery store. Have to feed my kids...they are asking for a toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches...will add some soup. They will be here Wednesday at 12:00 for lunch.

All the best to you Irene and all others out there.

Hello on Saturday. I woke early but do not mind that. I dint rush to get up but like myfurst cup of tea if the day itís my thinking and planning time .
Right now itís planning to get back to healthy eating and exercise. I know being healthier will help me cope with fighting cancer. It will not cure it but helps fight the symptoms. Itís too easy to flop in a chair and be sorry for myself. Yes we all need to flop at times.
Being creative in some form is helpful , there are times we have to give up in something we have enjoyed. But we have to be adaptable. The time was right for you to shut up the sewing machine Dot but you found other things you enjoy doing . Thatís good
I am having my second mug of tea k planning my day particularly food. Its so easy to get something fast and eat while watching tv. I am trying to be more aware of what and when I eat. Mikes away this weekend do just me to please , he is visiting his family. Back on Sunday.
Loook after your self, that applies to anyone reading this. Warm wishes. Irene

I agree with you Irene...having a hobby is very important to the elderly. I also knit and lately have been trying to learn how to crochet...that is not working out to well. Donít think my heart is in it. Will be hosting a baby shower in September....have to start a pink shawl for the baby girl my niece is expecting. I think I will be able to get it finished in time. The expecting Motherís two sisters and Mother will be doing all the games, food. They will utilize my home to host. I still love to have parties. Now I have gotten way up in my eighties...my family knows I cannot Do all the work involved so all I have to do is welcome and be the charming hostess. Looking
forward to it.,

Sorry you were forced to give up your sewing. After I made two Wedding dresses for my two future DIL. And a Bridesmaid dress for my granddaughter I decided I did not want to sew any more. The dresses were all beautiful and I was extremely tired. I never opened the machine again, until my daughter married and I made her wedding dress. The machine has never been opened since not even to patch or run a seam together. I guess I completely loss all interest in sewing. My back aches were showing up and I felt it was time.

I am looking forward to working on my family albums. I have around 80 pages to complete...I am artistic in my use of the papers an various items of interest each person has displayed in there life found so many beautiful, items to purchase to make the pages interesting. I think I have enough product to now begin my choices.

thought it a wonderful idea to make a scrapbook diary for your little ones to make for their sailor daddy. Have to also agree that bamboo knitting needles are the best

love 💕 you, all the best Irene

Hello on Thursday. I do think having hobbies is essential now. Our worlds shrink. We do not go, out as much or see people . Well I donít but I am happy with my own company and hobbies. Scrap booking is great. Itís something you can enjoy doing .
One of my grand daughters is married to a sailor. Heís away a lot and the two children do miss him. I suggested they keep a scrapbook diary while heís away. Joseph can write but the little one Grace can draw ir cut things out of magazines to save till daddy gets back. My g d Lymarra thought that a fantastic idea.
I really do not know what I would do if I couldnít knit , I had to give up fine sewing due to eye sight and arthritic hands. Now I can knit but only with thick needjes I find bamboo needles are best for arthritic hands .
Tv is an asset if we pick and choose what to watch. Do you find you get annoyed faster now with stupidity! I do . I often yell at people on tv.
Enjoy your day. Irene

It is a new Monday, do hope it will be a blessed week. I cannot believe how quickly time goes. It is amazing that schools here will be opening again shortly.

I have also been doing some tidying up...getting myself ready to do some Scrapbooking. I have finally tidied up the pictures. Each family now has their pictures in a marked box. you can see the tops of the tables which I will be working on. There's a bookcase that needs to be gone through shelf by shelf. Think I will start on the scrapbooks first now I have the pictures and all the scrapbook materiel is in one place.

I am pleased with myself....and am ready to get started. All my best to you, glad you are using the cane and feeling safer. Take care of yourself..Be sure and eat well, glad Mike takes care of you and sees that you get the right food.

All the best,
Dot

Hello on Monday, A new week a new start? Maybe.
I took my ď Elderly Crutch ďout yesterday. Itís makes me feel steadier I think but itís heavier than my usual stick so my right shoulder. ached later. I hope to get used to it. Yes I do try to keep a sense if humour over most things. It helps me to cope.
There are many types of cancer , mine wasnít hormone related. I know others had radiation. I I had a masctemomy in 2016. Two free years then I was back with lumps in my neck
Lymph nodes now. I am on chemo pills at home. Coping ok generally.
Itís three weeks of pills, then a week off. I then have bloods taken I see oncologist and it all starts again, Itís keeping me alive so I accept limitations
Oh an alarm system is essential now I have a bracelet one. An old friend of mine had asked me about them and the cost. Itís well worth the cost. She didnít get one , she fell top to bottom of her stairs , she lives alone. So was there three days and nights before she was found. Sheís been in hospital for months after that. Maybe she's got an alarm now

I must be ill, I am in a tidying up mood. I try to be tidy but it doesnít come natural to me. I am in process of sorting out mr room which is half bedroom , half craft room. I am getting somewhere . Being ruthless on clearing things out . Once I made a start it came easier.
Have a good week
Irene

Hi Billy and Irene, So glad you were able to join us Billy. Interesting that you were fortunate to have radiation and now a five year hormone blocking therapy.. Hope that you will be completely healed. This is the first time I have heard of this therapy, with the radiation. So sorry you both have a left ankle that plays you up...

You will be able to compare your canes. Irene I laughed along with Billy at your apt description of your new cane. I am fortunate that so far I have not had to use a cane. I love your English sense of humor! Regardless the funny marketing name and flowing robes man, do hope it will do an adequate job for you and will keep you safe.

I am feeling a lot safer since my DD and her husband got me the Mobilehelp for and if I fall. I had fallen coming down the stairs...had gotten to the last stair,I thought...and found it was not their and of course I fell onto my right leg... carpeting tore up my shinbone bleeding everywhere. Several days later the black bruises appeared around my ankle and leg...I had been able to pull myself up on the banister when I fell and determined that nothing was Broken.
My daughter had been trying to get me to get the Mobile help and after that fall I decided she could do it for me. I wear the necklace around the house and the watch when I go out. I now count the stairs when going up and down. Bruises are still around my ankle and foot and a red stain down my shinbone. It is such a wonder that I did not break any bones. I thank my DDand SIL for the Mobilehelp...it has made me very aware to slow down so I donít fall and to count those stairs.

All the best,
Dot

Just dropping in to say hello to all.

Irene, I too have a left ankle that I injured years ago. It swells ups making my foot and leg to swell. I have a cane with four little feet I use when that happens.

You have such a delightful sense of humor. Your description of your new cane packaging was hilarious. It brought sunshine to this rainy day we are having today.

Your report from oncologist was good news. I was fortunate I didnít have to have chemo. I had a month of radiation and now am on hormone-blocking therapy for the next five years.

I will sign off for now. Best wishes, Lily

Hello on Sunday hope you and any other friends in here are well.
Both summer and winter bring problems. , Mike suffers with itchy eyes. So heís not in an ideal job working in gardens.
I bought a new walking stick from Amazon. I use a stick or cane as I have arthritis in my left ankle. My stick doesnít feel safe m itís light and skids away from me at times so I ordered one with a base, It came and is causing puzzlement and laughs. Itís name is Elderly Crutch for a start. On the box is a picture of an old man in flowing white gowns with his arms outstretched. Someone asked is that God? No , I think itís a wise man in China blessing the user of this item. The spellings and wrong words are hilarious. I was asked to review it. I said itís very supportive etc but please change the name. Itís not good English and describes it wrongly . I suggested a Mobility Aid as a name Itís given us a laugh.
Donít we all need those.

Am listening to a thunderstorm as I write this...funny you were also having thunder storms. It was a pretty day here. Tempreture was not as hot and no humidity made it a perfect day.. Hope your rain has stopped so Mike can get to work. It is hard when you have to rely on the weather for your lively hood. I have put him on my prayer list.

Wonderful that you saw the Oncologist and he was pleased with your results and that you will continue with the cancer treatment at home. Do hope you will be able to get your cataract surgery done. I had mine done 20 years ago and was delighted to not have to wear eye glasses any more. Cateract surgery was very easy, the only requirement is a good opthomologist and putting drops in your eyes as instructied after surgery. Ask around to find others that have had the surgery and can recomend your Eye Surgeon. My doctor retired a couple of years ago. I go yearly for checkups with a new doctor...just found out that he is leaving the clinic so have to find another eye doctor.

My allergies have been playing me up the last week or two. Itchy eyes mainly...sometime the eye drops work and sometimes they donít. Very warm wet clothes applied do help, they just cool off to quick, this too will pass.

All the best to you Irene as you start the.new round of medication. My prayers will be said for you. God bless you.

A new month again. Hello Dot and anyone else dropping in.
Yesterday after an hours delay I did get to see oncologist. Heís pleased with my blood results. He is happy for me to continue taking the chemo pills at home. Itís not a trial now he was talking long term. seeing him monthly and a scan every three months , which is a big step forward. I felt that has to be positive.
I am getting blurred sight at times. I know I have cataracts. The prof thinks it maybe time to think of having them removed. But did say check with your optician.
Local one is just moving premises so not open. I will ring one in next town.
A lot of rain here too. Mikes losing time which is money when he canít do outdoor work.
I hope the allergies are under control. Dot. Warm wishes. Irene

I can understand your getting a panicky feeling when waiting to hear what the Oncologist has to say. Looking forward to the same results you have received before from him...and hope you can continue with the at home cancer treatment...you have appeared to have gotten along well with them.

We have had a lot of rain here this last Month. The guy that lives next door cuts my grass and has not been able to do so. I now have grass that has grown very high. So am hoping he will be able to cut it soon. Sorry that Mike has been held up doing his garden jobs too. We don't complain to much about the rain, because we grumble when we have a long drought and no rain for months. I prefer to see the rainy season and all the flowering plants alive. Wish Mike lived here I would have him tidy up my yard...The flowering bushes need cutting back. I can't do that anymore. I never was a great gardener. But do like things to be tidy.

I am sure all this over growth has caused the allergies again. So you are right. The medication eye drops have stopped the itching for now...I spend all my time inside these days. Walk and dance around my kitchen for exercise daily.

Looking forward to good news. My Love and prayers winging your way.
Dot.

A grey but dry start to our weather in Uk. Mikes work is dependant on good weather now so heís watching the forecast. Weather doesnít matter much to me. I do not like it too hot

I take it itís allergies causing runny eyes Dot. Best staying indoors.

Tomorrow I see oncologist. Yeserday I had blood taken. They will tell him a lot. I always get a panicking feeling waiting to see him.

Good Afternoon Irene,

Feels so good to be able to write and know I can post the message with no problem. Hope things stay that way. I get very frustrated when things become so difficult.

Will be working on my scrap-booking today. Having a difficult time with my eyes being itchy. Using the itchy eye drops. Most of the time the eye drops work beautifully but today they are not cooperating at all.

Do hope you get good news from the oncologist and can continue with the pills at home. I am delighted to hear that you have not had any problems with the few side effects.

All the very best to you Irene,
Dot

Hello girls. I was pleased to see your inputs today. Saturday morning as start. Early but then I go to bed early so I canít grumble if I wake early. Itís when I do my sparking usually.
Scrap books can be a fascinating pastime. But yes needs time and patience . I am trying to do the same with photos.
Two main topics have dominated the news here in Uk. The hot weather which we do not cope well with and politics. Which few people cope with.
I am alright. I do not want to go out much now I feel secure and safe in my own home. Yet I love company as long as they dio not stay too long .
I have just finished a two week session on chemo pills at home. They seemed to suit me with few side effects. I am still on other pills and I am to go in beta blockers now ,
I see the oncologist in a few days to see if I am to continue on the oral chemo. I prefer it to going to hospital.
Yes I saw lots of photos of my great grand childís Baptism. It was the right choice not to go.
Stay well. I look forward to mire chats. Irene

Hi Lilly and Irene,

I am so sorry that once again my iPad and my computer has been messed up. I finally think I have the Dell computer straightened out and can write a message. Lilly it was so nice to see you posting and look forward to hearing about the family event you went to.

Irene, guess you were very wise not to go to your family event. I know how much you wanted to go...But your immune system would not have been able to protect you. I am sure you will get to see lots of pictures.

I got back to doing some Scrape booking yesterday. In my computer room I have card tables which have been covered with piles of pictures. I started doing Family Albums so long ago that I cannot remember. A friend has done the same thing I did. Very together with scrape booking and then got overwhelmed and quit the project. We disgusted getting back to scraping and finishing the project and she challenged me...so yesterday I started getting myself organized. Have 39 Pages to complete...Have some more pictures to sort out...but really put a dent in that yesterday. I am going to be very busy and will do my best to accomplish a little every day. I needed my friends enthusiasm and challenge to get me going and starting.

Have a wonderful weekend. I will try to keep up with you two ladies. Jean should be back at some point also. All the very best to both of you.

Hi Irene, I am here every day reading your letters. I have a lot to tell you all. I will be back to tell you later. I just wanted to let you know you are a bright spot of my day.

I am glad you didnít go to the big family event. I did go to my family event last Saturday. It was too much for me. I was tired for four days.

Bye for now,

Welcome back Dot. Computers do odd things at times.
I have a dilemma today. Do I go to a big family gathering today for a baptism.
I want to but I am wary of being with so many people there including children who expect hugs and my grandsons bride to be , I havenít met her yet. My immune system is very low hike on chemo.
Think I am leaning towards caution and not go.
Hope you. girls are coping in the heat. Not too bad here Irene

Irene my computer is doing funny things with my mail lately, I can't believe that I have not written a message since 7/3 here you are writing two messages the last one on 7/15. I am so sorry that I either got that far behind or there is something very wrong with this computer...I prefer to think it is the computer.

For the last hour we have had a bad thunder storm raging out side...wind was whipping everything. I was supposed to take my sister for a pedicure but had to call and cancel the appointment.

Glad you are doing okay with the new cancer medication, and are feeling pretty good. You are smart to not get around to many people with having low immune problems. Keep taking care of yourself.

All the very best,
Love,Dot.

Hello on Monday. Thanks for support Dot. So far so good as I start the third day of the new treatment I have pills yo take twice a day 12 hours apart after meals . I have sorted them out and was advised keep them in the boxes they came in. I note on the box the day and do a tick for each time I take them.
Yes I do try to be positive it does help. I was proud of myself yesterday. I went out for a short walk on my own. I have not been able to do that for months. I am fine going out with Mike or daughter in law Maggie. But I get a panic attack going alone. Yesterday I over came that and did a 15 min walk in the park close to my house. No one around as it was early I just took my phone and house keys . Hoping I can do that again soon,
Look after yourselves friends. Irene

Thinking of you and praying for you as you begin the new drugs. Everything that you are thinking is perfectly normal. Definitely fear of the unknown. God can take care of the unknown
I am sure of that. It is good that you trust your doctors and have faith in God to see you through all the new stuff...praying that you will hopefully not have to struggle with any side effects.

Irene many people will be praying for you, friends and family. Stay in touch as much as you can as you go through this new phase of treatment...knowing you I am sure that you are thinking positive...think good positive thoughts. are you taking any vitamins to boost your immune system.

I am going to have a good bowl of homemade veggie soup for my dinner wish you could join me. All the very best my friend...you are very special.

God bless and keep you,
All the very best,
Dot

Thank you Dot for thinking of me and with good advice. I think it was a wobble over the new drugs I start in today. Fear of the unknown I suppose.
Today I start in these new drugs. I had much advice and warnings from the pharmacist yesterday. There will be side effects everyone is different. I have to keep a diary. Itís wll wait and see and put my trust in the doctors and my faith in God . I know many people will be praying for me ,I am going into semi quarantine now as my immune system will be low. So will be glad of tv internet , my on line friends and my family
Have a good weekend. Irene
