Wash, slice, and dice as many as you can. Store your prepared produce in clear containers at the front of your fridge. This way you'll see it and can easily reach for quick snacks and meals.

BOOST STORE-BOUGHT MEALS.

Most frozen, canned or boxed meals seriously lack fresh ingredients. Add nutrition and health to prepared meals by adding extra veggies to the mix. Heat them together, mix and serve.

Joan, my husband takes prednisone for his chrones, and not only does it make him gain weight, but it makes him GRUMPY..LOL The doctor told him it's because it makes you crave salt, and retain water, so don't worry too much, just don't eat too much salt, and keep dinking the water! Good luck.

I find that I sometimes waste alot of food because I can't use it up in time, so I am being alot more careful about only buying what I think I will use. When I'm in the produce section, I kind of go wild wanting to try different things and that isn't always good!

Wrap your celery in aluminum foil and put it back in the sleeve it came in. It stays crisp and fresh forever it seems like. I just started doing that this summer and have not had any limp celery since.

My son just stopped in - he had been gone all weekend. I told him about my arm and that I was on Prednisone. He raised his eyebrows and said "Be careful of weight gain." He said Prednisone can cause weight gain. Has anyone else had any experience with that?

I did wonder why I gained 1.5 lbs in just a few days but thought I was just being 'piggy'.

Thanks

Good morning all

Does celery freeze well? That's the one thing that usually goes bad on me, the bunches are too big. I used to buy a bunch of celery and then share with the lady across the street but she has since passed away. The other neighbors I know aren't willing to do this.

I woke up early and decided to get up. If I go back to bed and toss and turn I will just bother DH and he might as well sleep even if I can't.

If produce is about to go bad, freeze it for later use in smoothies, batters, soup, and stir-fry instead of throwing it out.

CHOOSE CANNED.

Canned fruits (without syrup) and veggies (with low sodium) are just as nutritious as fresh. Plus they're easy on your wallet and your schedule, making cooking a breeze.

The FRUIT AND VEGGIE CHALLENGE IS IN THE TEAM CHALLENGE FORUM......IT IS CALLED......5-A-DAY FRUIT AND VEGGIE CHALLENGE FOR SEPTEMBER. see you there my friends. On this thread I will give you useful hints on how to use fruits and veggies.

I'm glad to see that you are into taking those small steps to a successful Sept.

***** SEPT. 2ND *****

ADD FLAIR WITH FRUIT.

Raisins, apples and tangerine slices add sweetness and texture to salads. Apples complement pork, pineapple is great with fish, and orange slices are perfect with chicken.

DIP IT.....

Instead of dipping your chips and veggies into creamy dressings, make a healthy dip out veggies...hummus, chunky salsa, guacamole, and roasted red pepper dips will help you meet your daily quota.

I guess I'm missing something...
Did you mean that each day in Sept you will post a new tip on a new F/V or how we can use one in our menu's or something like that.

I'm kinda new to this team and I think I'm missing a piece of this challenge/discussion.

I am looking forward to seeing the list. I know I need inspiration or a list to remind me to eat more of veggies and fruits. I love both of them, but I can't seem to get all of them in daily.

This topic will come into effect on September 1st.

As summer winds to an end, fall is a time for harvest. September is many things to many people, including 5-a-Day month, Fruit and Vegetable month, and even Organic Harvest month! Since most people struggle to get the recommended five to nine servings of produce each day, these 30 tips will help you add more fruits and vegetables to your diet....and enjoy every bite!!
