Had several Friends and their families over to the backyard pool/patio yesterday evening - it has been over 90 degrees in Buffalo, NY this week - (not complaining - as it's not snowing so, its been a great summer ) -
I felt really good - ordered a few small pizza's for the "non-believers" - but was able to put out many options for both the non-believers, half breeds and myself that I felt good about and were yummy for all!
Fresh Veggies galore - with my homemade southwestern dip (greek yogurt, cottage cheese, spices all put in bullet blender until smooth)
My Buffalo Chicken pinwheels (big Hit!) , X Sharp Hard Cheddar cheese, greek olives, green grapes,
My homemade sugar free (good fats - Coconut Oil ;-)) - Almond Joy Chocolate Chip Cookies
(everyone LOVED them - I mean LOVED them!!!)

Someone had brought some salsa and a hot chili/cream cheese dip and chips - so, I made sure I had a small bowl of my Beanito Black Bean Chips also available.

If I had consumed it all at one time - it would have definitely been OP - or CO at the very least - but a nibble here and there over the course of 4 hours - I felt really good about my choices. And an hour before our guests arrived - I was sure to have a nice salad to keep me from over doing it on the "tastes" that add up.

It was so much easier to give my guests lots of yummy options - and not feel "left out" of my own party - Success!

I just want to add my concern for your missing cat. My cats have always been indoor cats (we only have one at the moment, but have had several over the years). But, one got out a couple of years ago. She finally came home early the next morning, but I was worried all night. I hope she comes home soon!

I must say, that I do not use the trackers on SP. I used to be a member of WW and I put some THM recipes in there to get the points. But, I find tracking tedious!

Sorry your cat is missing :(
I know that makes you heart sick.
I use to bring my cats in at night time by taking a boxed kitty food, and shaking it, while Calling them. Shake shake shake, kitty kitty kitty.
They usually were where they could hear me and come running.
then they got a treat, because it was only given to them at night time.
Hope its micro chipped so if someone turns it in they will call you.
You can also call your Local shelter with a description of the cat, in case someone brings it in.
Prayers he finds his way home.

Off now to read the recipes recommended on here :)

Hi Hattie, I have added recipes to the spark recipes, but make private as to not infringe on copyright laws as a team member once pointed it out to me. I just put (THM) to start the name of the recipe..

The new books are great, love them!!

Phyllis --love the response! I will be traveling and seeing family on the 20th-30th, so that was great and much needed.

SO I have both the new plan book and the cookbook. Has anyone added the recipes on SP--and if so how do you label them. THM?

Thanks in advance!

Dragonfly, AS a cat lover I had 5, 2 are with my husband..I understand your pain. I hope she comes back. All my cats are indoor cats. If you plan to make her an outdoor cat might not be such a good idea, can hubby build her a screened in crate? I sit on the porch with mine, one I will never leave out of my sight, he tries to hop the rail, he is a year old, one is afraid of her own shadow, and the last one can't go anywhere because of back leg issues. My vet and Jackson Galaxy from My Cat from Hell highly recommend cats are indoor pets, too much can happen to them.

My heart is breaking for you guys and your cat, I do hope she comes back. She is probably afraid, maybe you can look for her when the light comes up.

Trudy, strawberry...mmmmm I might make tomorrow as I have strawberries!

Having a tough day today. I was busy watching my kids this weekend as my husband was working all weekend. This ended with him coming home early last night because his knee was in extreme pain. He has gout and turns out it was affecting his knee. Because of his pain and since he was ordered to keep his leg elevated today, I called off work to help him, watch the kids, and run a bunch of errands. So I've been running around like crazy. We ended the day by having dinner outside. Also, I've been trying too train our cat we got 2 months ago to be outdoors so she can spend time outside. Do i brought her out while we ate dinner so I could keep an eye on her. Well, while I was cleaning up dinner, she went into the farm field behind our house. I wanted to go after her but my husband said she'd be back soon. Well, she never came back. I've been out in the field looking a few times and nothing. It's now past midnight and I'm laying in the family room with the back door open in case she returns and meows at the door. This cat is such a good cat and my kids adore her. I end up crying each time I go looking for her as I don't want to have lost our cat. My boys picked her out and talk about her all the time, they just love her. And my baby girl gets excited and laughs whenever she sees the cat. I'm just sick to my stomach thinking I may have lost her. I pray she returns soon. Between lack of sleep tonight and being sick with stress and worry, tomorrow may end up being a looooong day at work.

Hi all, I have been on vacation the last two weeks and it as hard for me believe it or not, being separated I hated being a lone :( .

Found things to do, went on a hike with a new group I joined..have you girls checked out Meetups, they have them all over the US..and tons of groups to do things with it.

Took a Painting with a twist 2 hour class with my daughter and it was great...

I'm at 159 today, up almost 2 pounds, but now that I'm back to work I'll be more on a schedule.

A lot going on here I see...

Candy, glad you are feeling better!

Jessie, back issues stink...I've been going to my Chiropractor the last few weeks to address my upper back, normally my lower, but with the texting and looking down causing my disks to act up...for the QNB, I hated it in the microwave, but when done in the oven and cooked to the right temp/time, the egginess should be gone. Have you tried the oven and used the egg whites in the carton?

Trudy thanks for all the support you give us :)

Happy afternoon mamas!

It has been a week. My lower back went out on me so exercise has been out the past few days except for some stretches. Had the chicken stir fry yesterday. It was a hit with two of the kiddos the other two just wanted to eat the rice and that was it. I think it was all the veggies in it. I put in zucchini, yellow squash, red peppers, broccoli, carrots, and a little bit of corn. DH and I loved it.

I did try the nuke queens bread and I hate to say it. I did not like it at all. It looked good but the taste was too eggy for me.

at least I keep trying new things thats what counts.

I haven't posted in a while, although I've commented and liked some stuff on the wall.

I have been on a plateau. I'm not ready to do a fuel cycle or the stubborn losers menu. I know part of the problem is that I have had a decent number of CO and OP meals. I'm ok with having CO and OP occasionally, but I guess I have allowed a few too many.

I usually eat for comfort when I'm upset or stressed and I have only done that once since starting THM. And I have had a couple of stressful events.

Great response, Phyllis! I'm going to have some challenges of eating with others in their homes in the near future. I won't have control over the food. I'm still trying to get my bearings from being on vacation (and gaining 5 pounds in 3 weeks).

I finally got the new book, had it spiral bound, and have read 1/2 of it. I'm learning some finer points that I didn't get from the last book (which I didn't read all of). I love it!

Phyllis, I love that response...I know people seems to not think highly of what they consider low carb diets. My doctor told me sounds like a lifestyle plan not a diet. Diets don't last...

Absolutely, Deb!
As a matter of fact - I went to a Family reunion this past weekend - and someone said - OH you are one of those Low Carb diets (by the looks of what I had on my plate) with that tone of voice that implied sarcasm...
- and I said - No, I'm NOT on a Low Carb Diet - I'm on a Right Carb lifestyle plan - and some of these dishes, although, I'm sure they are delicious and if you choose to enjoy them - please do..but they aren't the right carbs I want or choose to eat now.
Finally, a response that kept them from going on and on about the pitfalls of Low carb dieting..or other similar responses...I nailed it!

Just wondering if anyone else has had this AH HA moment..(and forgive me while I ramble)

I have been really good at doing my darnedest to stay on THM plan. Occasionally, I would see a Crossover or Offplan blip on the screen - and to be honest had a slight panic attack. (especially, on a weekend day with heavy Events going on (Grad parties, weddings, bridal showers, family reunions)
Then I had an AH HA moment - combined with Pearl's and Serene's words that its ok to have those Crossover or Offplan occasions - just jump back on ..no problem. I also considered another indicator that even though I may have had a THM blip on my radar - by using SP tracker - for every meal every day - I saw that my fall off - really had no, null, zip, zero hit to my SP day! I may have not been 100% THM on those few occasions but I was 100% SP on-plan.
I still strive to stay THM on-plan - but I now have a security blanket for when life gets in my way and I haven't planned ahead to literally carry my own meals with me EVERYWHERE I go..for an entire day - and believe me - there have been events we've gone to - that no matter what - there was literally almost NOTHING being served that wasn't a cold veggie platter that I would want to consume any more (heavy white potato salads, Heavy white pasta salads, desserts, bar-b-q sauce laden meat, chips, dips and none of them close to being on-plan).
Anyway - by realizing that my off moments - weren't completely off - and I was still hitting 99% of my goals - was reassuring for me.

Hi All! I've had a busy couple of weeks so I haven't been on here. We did some traveling the past couple weeks and I got to see my best friend of 32 years that I haven't seen since her wedding 6 years ago. I got to meet her 3 year old twins and she got to meet my younger 2 kids and marvel over how much my oldest has grown. She and her family live in Hawaii (lucky her) so it's not easy to get together. This is her kid's first time being off the islands. They were confused at the cold weather the first few days they were in PA (high 40s and 50s up where our parents all live) and wondered why the water in the rivers and lakes were brown and not bright blue!

I'm also going through some changes at work. We've had/are having several people leaving, some by choice and some not by choice. We also hired a new manager that I thought was going to be working with me on projects, but the company director's decided to make him my manager as well, so I've switched departments and a have a new manager. I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it. I'm definitely not happy to not be working under my old manager. He was the best manager I've ever had, very intelligent, hardworking, thoughtful, a great leader, I can go on. And I've had pretty decent managers and to say this guy is the best is pretty big. He'll still be involved in things I'm working on at work, I just won't be reporting to him anymore. What annoyed me was they didn't tell me about my being moved to a new manager until the day before my new manager was going to start. I knew they had hired someone and what his position and title was going to be, but they waited to tell me about my change until the day before he started. I've changed managers before throughout my career and have been okay with it, even with switching from managers I've liked. But this time I'm just not happy. This new manager might end up being a great manager too, I shall see. Right now I know I'm forming my opinions based on my unhappiness about the situation, which probably isn't fair for this guy because I seem to be looking for reasons to not like him. I'm not the only one feeling this way, my "cohort in crime" (as he likes to refer to himself) coworker was also switched to this new manager and he isn't too happy about it either. I'm just trying to keep an open mind and be positive about the change. I am happy this guy joined our company as I think he'll be able to do some good things. I just hope I don't mind working for him.

Have a great day all!

Good afternoon mamas.

I finally got a coffee grinder and figured out how to make my flax seeds into meal. unfortunately, I think I over cooked my volcano mudslide muffin. It was kind of nasty. I also don't like the smell of ground flax seeds.

Some days I am better on plan than others. I have not had potatoes for a long time now. DH keeps trying to get me to make french fries for when we grill out hamburgers. so far I am winning. Might let him win one day as long as I get some sweet potato fries.

Other than that i have been really busy with cub scout day camp, planning the family reunion which is still coming up, and cleaning house.

Hope everyone has a blessed day!

Sounds like many had some great trips and family adventures (some still "happening")! Welcome Back!
My DD is back home for the summer while interning at PriceWaterhouse..goes back to school for 1 semester this fall to finish her Masters..until then - I was back to packing 3 lunches this morning (DH, DD and myself) - A thought hit me - I remember packing what I thought was going to be her last "mama" packed lunch on her last day of Highschool - Ha Ha..I actually teared up that morning.
Needless to say, I packed both DD and DH - good balanced THM friendly lunches and snacks - we'll see how long it lasts ;-) (of course mine was too)

Happy Tuesday to you all! May your day be Joyful and productive!

Emily sounds like you had a great time! Glad you DD has found a college that she is excited about.....you should check out Hershey PA and Corning Glass Factory, really cool places to visit.

Carol, so nice to have your family near you, well with you..but I'm sure they will find a place once your son in law finds a job, etc. Not sure why some men just don't want to follow THM, it is probably all based on the name, they are too manly for trim healthy mama diet emoticon

Our daughter Amanda, son-in-law Bill, and two granddaughters (ages 3 & 5) moved in with us last week. The relocated from PA to Nashville, TN. Life is really hectic in our house right now. But, fun too! It's the first time my husband and I have had to really spend time with the grandchildren.

Luckily, Amanda is the one who introduced me to THM, so once things settle down a bit - we should be good! Unfortunately, her husband is NOT on plan, nor does he want to be. And he likes to cook. So, I've been off plan for a couple of days! Back to it today, though!

We hope that Bill finds a job soon!

Good morning, everyone!

We are back from our road trip. It was nice. Nebraska is a surprisingly "cool" place. Lincoln has a pretty hip vibe to it from what we experienced and the people were so very nice. At least 3 people went out of their way and talked to us or even helped us. We wandered around the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. I can definitely see DD going there. She is positive that's where she wants to target her efforts.

We also went to a museum in Hastings, Nebraska that has an exhibit dedicated to the history of Kool Aid. The museum itself was interesting (maybe because it was 100 degrees outside and the museum was inside!) and we truly enjoyed the Kool Aid exhibit.

I did feel held back because of my weight. As I was going upstairs I could feel the force of my weight on my poor arthritic knees. Time to get on plan and stay there!

Have a great day!

Yes Janet, a smart move to hold off for a week or two, no sense in seeing the scale and getting discouraged because most of us will gain during vacation. I did last July, but now I know not a good idea. Also in the Friends with the Scale book her suggestion is as well to wait.

Glad you are getting the new books, you will not regret it.

Glad you are back!

I'm back from Italy . . . got back very late on Tuesday night. I'm starting to get back into life here. I ate plenty of pasta & desserts. My hubbie said he gained 10 pounds. I've decided to not weigh for now. Just get back on plan for a week or two and then weigh. Now to order to updated book and cookbook from Amazon today.

I store my ACV in the pantry. I've never had a problem with it.

My favorite GGMS is the Cream Soda Version. (Recipe is in the recipe thread). But, I actually like most of the ones I've tried. Hawaiian Punch, Peach, Orange Cream. I have discovered that I do like to use half sparkling water with it. And I wasn't a soda drinker - but it gives it a little extra zip.

Hi all, I store all my vinegar in the refrigerator, never did before but read something somewhere that said it is better, can't recall why. I guess would be personal preference.

Good evening mamas! I finally got to go grocery shopping. Past couple weeks dh has gone and keeps buying all kinds of snacks. So I went today and I bought a zucchini, yellow summer squash, himalayan salt, and white house apple cider vinegar with the mother. We will see how it goes with no potatoes in the house, cause my husband and kids think all meals have to have potatoes cause that is what they are use to.

so quick question, does the apple cider vinegar need to be put in the fridge after opening? I can't find anything on the label about it.

Oh and I am going to try to make ggms. any good tried and true recipes that you cant do without?

emoticon Wow didn't realize I posted it, probably because I never made them...

I plan on making the cry no more brownies again, but using walnuts this time and frozen okra, used fresh not sure but I could swear they tasted a tad bit different.

The avocado chocolate cookies recipe is the one that you posted under the share recipes forum. I just had two avocados that if I didnt use they were going to go bad and saw that and decided to try it.

Hello everyone emoticon

I have managed to miss out on a lot of conversation!

I have been at training for the past two weeks! I managed to stay on plan pretty well. I had several cross overs, but I'm ok with that. I did manage to eat a large order of fries and a dr. Pepper at on meal, but went back on plan.

I haven't tried any of the soups, I'm not a big soup person! I also have issues eating the same thing over and over again!

I have told several people that thm is easier to follow than any other plan. In part because you can eat essentially anything (may have to substitute somethings), and even if you go off plan it is easy to get back on plan.

Hi Jessie, is the recipe in the book? I made the cry no more brownies a couple times and now it is time for a new recipe to try. It is just me so I end up eating the desserts I make all week.

Thank Trudy I'll take a look there for the soup recipe.

I am really going to have to try some of those soups. When I think of soup though I put it with being sick, cause that was the only time I ever got soup. Need to change my mind set cause I really want to try a couple cause they really sound good.

One thing I did do today was make a batch of the avocado chocolate cookies. I had two left over and knew if I didn't use them today they would go bad. Lets just say they were awesome! emoticon Only thing I would do different would be is to bake them longer. I had them in for ten minutes and they were still gooey and had to eat with a fork. Made me wonder if I could leave out the eggs and baking soda and turn it into a pudding.

Best thing though is I had my kids try them and they loved them. So I dont plan on telling them the special ingredient. Now to see what the hubs say.

In other news, my son seems to have gotten the message about needing to lose weight but he tried to get away with only eating a handful of grapes for breakfast. I made him go in and scramble himself some eggs with cheese on them.

Good morning, everyone!

I had that soup yesterday for lunch. It was great out of the freezer. We make soups a lot. DH said he never ate soups until he married me but that I can make anything a great soup, so we always have a lot of them in the freezer. No magic to them, really. Almost all of mine are broth based so they're high volume low calorie. I typically do a meat and a ton of veggies. I'd never pureed cauliflower or okra before for thickening but it's holding up well in the freezer so I would do it again. I might try to make the soup with Italian flavors instead of southwest flavors next time.

Dragonfly, I've done most diets out there and I feel like Weight Watchers is the only one I would attempt again. It's flexible, doesn't ban foods, doesn't require you to buy their foods, and lets you eat the foods you enjoy while learning moderation. I just find counting anything enormously unpleasant, whether it's points, calories, fat grams, carb grams, or exchanges. The ONE time I made it under 200 was using Nutrisystem. I've tried it again, but I just want to eat foods with minimal ingredients on the label. That is the main appeal of THM for me.

Trudy, we are leaving Sunday and will definitely go to Valentino's. I've already told the family about it and they are excited. We like to eat, lol! DD has found the Kool Aid Museum in Hastings which doesn't appear to be too far, and DH found something else online last night. It is supposed to be hotter there than here next week, though....100 degrees! I'm guessing the humidity is lower but still! Is it typically hot in the summer like that or are we just happening to be travelling during a heat wave? We've talked about postponing a week but the 10 day forecast doesn't show any relief.

Deb, I'm glad to be back.

Off to get some breakfast!
