Karina, I have been struggling with scales creeping back up and thought I would "Look for inspiration" from the team and so came back to this thread even though it is quiet most of the time . Couldn't help but smile at you having to walk down the road to use the rest-room especially when you were drinking extra fluids - I often think about the fact that I get extra steps on days of more 'potty stops'

But real NSV of late in the blood sugar numbers lowering to 100 or below "often ". that is really important for pre-diabetic and also important for pre-op plans for knee replacement planned for next month [but put on hold with the Virus stopping all elective surgeries] but repeated articles that viruses attack those with high blood sugars so I am taking care of me in some areas even if scales don't show it!!!

Aw Linda, what a wonderful NSV that was! I am glad you have settled in to feeling content with where you are.

My Mom is 75. She said one of the things she appreciates about getting older, is that she can pretty much say what she wants, when she wants, and nobody gives it a second thought. She said it doesn't make up entirely for the aches and pains, but it's nice to know if she has a slip of the tongue, nobody will say anything. We aren't exactly the most politically correct family in the world, so I can see that is something to look forward to. Of course, Mom is shy. . . . I am not. Where her slips of the tongue may slightly sarcastic at times, mine are sure to be full force, in your face, cranky lady stuff. And I'm ok with that now, so I'm SURE I'll be giddy over it 20 years from now! HAHAHA

Oh, I just thought of an NSV for today! Not sure if the rest of you will think of it as such . . . but here goes.

Our bathroom at work was out of order today. I got back to drinking all of my water today too. Uh oh, right? Well, we had to walk down the road to use the public bathroom in the post office building every time we had to go today! It's not a huge distance, but when you're drinking water like a camel, that could be a problem! hahaha extra steps always count, right?

And best of all is my Non-Scale-Victory, I am happy and content with the aging process - I was pretty depressed about that turning 70 last January and February but determined to be positive and count blessings have fun becoming "an older lady" and I have succeeded . Life is good and I will continue to maintain health and improve as I am able.

Yeah for walking!!! So glad you can enjoy it. My joints are more arthritic each month plus the neuropathy so at 70 I can't just walk for pleasure - trying to get in 3000steps of " activities of daily living" with the assist of cane or walker. Keep up the walking and share what you see or where you go

Non-Scale victory when others in your circle of friends recognize your special dietary needs - in addition to THM I am celiac and strick gluten free or tummy explodes and damage done to inards a sweet lady in our church fellowship brought a full bag of gluten free, name brand items from her recent family visit with a celiac member - so she stocked up on items and brought me what was 'left over' - first two items I saw were sprouted grain bread and old fashioned oatmeal [ whole grain and gf!] will explore the rest of the bag today... so excited!

Wednesday and non- scale victory is having eggs back in the house for my needs and wants -

A day of egg fasting and I feel much better this evening and like energy might return. Age and health issues really made this 12 day road trip-vacation physically draining for me but the emotional " love tank filling " by relatives and friends makes it all worth it.

FBS 108 Keeping it under 110 but can't seem to get it under 100 more than once a week. This was a quiet day - I don't track foods on Sundays but feel I did pretty good and have made a fresh commitment to NOT eat ice cream on my vacation - will try to be sure I have cottage cheese option when others are eating ice cream. Unless I find one with less than 6 carbs and more than 12 proteins and 2-3fats - that will leave options open and keep label reading to the forefront.

We are still home tomorrow but I am considering us on vacation from Mon 8th through Sun the 21st - will test Fasting blood sugar in mornings and two hours after evening meal each evening. Will lean mostly to S meals and required gluten free for celiac. No scales and no pedometer for this time period. Returning for Daughter's wedding Nov 3 and reception Nov 11 so the dress has to fit!!! the health HAS to keep good and praying mobility will not decline any further before this life event is through.

Big non-scale victory is that the ordered "Mother of the bride dress" came today - fits perfectly - and I feel pretty in it!!!
THM has helped me not only lose weight but re-arrange it even though no big losses this year - I am thankful I will feel that my daughter can be proud of her Mama on her wedding day and will continue to work at the weight and many medical issues I deal with daily.

AS a PRE_DIABETIC I check blood sugars each day and really appreciating a Facebook THM-Diabetic page.
Mon:65carb-16fiber=49carb 26%carb 30%Pro 44%Fats
1Tbsp Almond butter at 10pm
Tues - FBS 101 at 6am 8 hour fasting
Found that my monitor will show 15 and 30 day averages of all readings so does include some random before and after meal and curious readings ...
30 day average of all readings, not just fasting was 107

For you not -dibetic people the victory is 30 day average is low enough I don't think the Dr will push METFORMIN at me and definitely not in insulin range!!!

A reward I would have never thought to look for... There are VERY FEW sugars in the house!!!
Dear hubby [not on plan or any desire to approach it!] hs a cupboard in the kitchen for his "goodies" which started several years ago to be his GLUTEN CUPBOARD so the kitchen could be celiac safe / Gluten free for our daughter and then for me when my Dx followed hers.

Well, he always has cookies, candies, goodies in general in his corner. and I restock it when grocery shopping but he said to not get so many things and the beginning of the year , since we shop together now, I ask if he wants cookies or breads or rolls or chips or other treats and he has been saying no I have enough...well his cupboard is bare!!! So he went down to the main store room and came up and said - aren't there any goodies in the house ---- ha ha I guess not, there are a few simi sweet choco chips for making home made GF cookies but no sugar!!!! There are a few GF cake mixes but he didn't want any of that and nothing else I guess we have arrived at basically no sugar in the house! THM reigns.

Big non-scale is the "Non-Hungry" feeling and enjoying the fact that food is no longer taking every minute thinking about what to eat, wanting to eat and wanting non-good foods to eat!!!

I think I am finally beginning to be healthy in thought - now to get it to the body!

My thoughts on MY EGG FAST. I followed the guidelines pretty close - did add my Tbsp of Chia seeds daily and Tsp of Metamucil or psyllium powder each day which added carbs but not net carbs and "kept me regular"
.I did not expect huge losses like some have because my diet was already pretty strictly regimented and kind of gentle keto-oriented though not as low of carbohydrates.
I will weight each of the three days afterward and then show that result next Monday.
Things I feel I learned:
1. How it fees to truly NOT be hungry on several days and Thursday and Friday in particular.
2. Though a little high percent of daily saturated fats - I feel it was still fairly heart-stent friendly at right around half of my fats each day being saturated.
3. I was very pleased with lack of hunger and cravings [with exception of Wednesday morning] - I wanted Chocolate but it was loneliness for a friend rather than frantic craving as I have experienced in the past.
4. I still love eggs, but the beef paddy for dinner tonight was sure good!!! Was were salad greens!
5. I would do this again - maybe once a month at the most - not sure it will work well with our summer schedule of living though I definitely see this as a potential for the week after a vacation to get back into good control mode. I see it as a solidly healthy week for me and my level of medical needs, health goals and style of living.

Learning to separate the fuel "Eggs" The whites are good alone in E meals but I personally believe in using the whole egg in most cases. I never remember to use the yolks I save in the fridge so that has not worked...this morning I clicked on a plan... Hubby is content with whatever as long as it tastes like an egg and the grand-dog is here this week so for breakfast
I cooked one yolk for the dog and I got his white, hubby and I each got one whole egg and he got one extra yolk and I got one extra white... all happy. Teehee - doesn't take much to make me laugh! Giving away the yolk kept me in S mode - not cross over!!

Are you salad-bar savvy?
Navigating a buffet of veggies, side dishes and toppings might be harder than you think. Practice these tips when dining out.
Opting for the salad bar? It might not be healthier than ordering from the menu. Unless you make careful choices, you could unintentionally end up with a plate overflowing with calories and fat.
Don't be a victim of this common diet trap be proactive. Before you order, peruse the salad bar and consider these points.
Go green. Lettuce or fresh spinach is generally the foundation of a healthy salad. Do the greens look fresh and plentiful?
Survey the fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition to greens, you'll want to pile on fresh vegetables and fruits, such as tomatoes, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, cauliflowers, cucumbers, beets, radishes, bell peppers, pineapple, cantaloupe, watermelon, grapes and strawberries. Is there a good offering of these items?
Acknowledge the extras. Many people go wrong at salad bars by including too many high-fat ingredients like cheese, chopped eggs, bacon bits, buttery croutons and pasta or potato salad. When you go through the salad bar, take only very small amounts of these items or avoid them all together. If there are too many enticing foods and you don't feel confident you can make good choices, consider healthier options from the menu rather than facing temptation from the salad bar.
Don't forget the dressings. Look for fat-free or low-fat, low-calorie dressings, such as low-fat Italian or reduced-calorie French. Other options include vinegars. You can also add flavor to your salad with lemon, herbs and peppers. Check to see if any seasonings are available.

My Personal note: Salad bar was the ultimate evening meals when I was in hotel 3 nights last month - to near by groc store with lovely salad bar and made wise choices and spent less than any restaurant meal and easily stuck to GF SF THM Guidelines - got enough that had left-overs in the fridg for lunch the next day x2 plus continental breakfast and saved extra boiled egg and fruit for snacks. Will use this idea more on road trip vacation this fall.

Deb - I love seeing your ticker.

Another NS V - When I deviate from plan, I don't fall completely off the wagon and continue eating off plan. This month, I have caught myself and gotten it together pretty quickly. Thanks Deb for the encouraging conversation that we had. I credit you for that success.

Good news! Going to donate 4 huge garbage bags of clothes that don't fit today to our local thrift store-not keeping big clothes anymore-that was my past behavior to hang on to the big clothes....just incase....now all my clothes that were boxed up for years too small fit great! So happy.

Thanks for encouragement, Deb.

Off plan foods: one cookie at church 2 Sundays ago (did not do that this Sunday), popcorn (and way too much), potato chips. And I definitely can overdo Skinny Chocolate.

BUT, proud of myself yesterday - I went to a bring your own breakfast fellowship time. I ate Fiberone cereal at home with almond milk first. Took a Triple 0 yogurt and coffee.

Hi Janet, what are you going off plan on? Or just eating too much of what is on plan?

I know you might not be able to eliminate off plan foods in your house because of hubby and your son, but perhaps have out of sight?

Give me a call if want a pep talk!

Wow, Deb! That is so cool!

I'm gathering clothing for vacation, and unfortunately, I'm going mostly with tent-style tops. That's just where I'm at right now.

I had several off-plan moments this week. Will do my best today and keep trying. The good thing is that I'm in better walking shape for my trip.

Yesterday I took a walk on my lunch hour and someone yelled over to me from their car, turned out to be a women from work, she said "you look great, keep up the good work"....my weight loss is starting to become very noticeable now to others. Funny but 45 pounds later they are noticing....I hide my fat well with jackets that cover my hinny and looser tops, but now I don't have to do that anymore :).

Kielisza, I think most of us can attest to not planning leads to not eating on plan.

I tend to think ahead of what I'm going to eat...a could part of the time I don't make recipes but a nice chicken stir-fry, or throw some chicken thighs in a crockpot with chicken broth and some seasonings, or if all else fails, I make some zucchini noodles and throw a couple eggs on top, etc.

Matter of fact I'll throw my dinner in the crockpot before I leave for work.

I've identified my problem. I'm lazy! No really, I enjoy THM food. I enjoy cooking. But, as supper approaches (or lunch or breakfast) I'm not motivated to prep and cook. So, I've been eating MIM, yogurt and such. Very little veggies and berries now and then. Then, instead of switching out to an E meal when I'm dragging (as I know I should) I go off plan.

So...I'm planning out meals for the rest of this week. I prefer to prepare whatever we're "in the mood" for, but that's obviously not working.

Lately it seems like everyday starting over. So great to read your victories because it reminds me that I can do this...AGAIN.

Getting healthy is like getting through boot camp. It's a lot of hard work, and some days you want to quit. But when graduation day arrives, memories of pain and trouble pale in the light of the pride and accomplishment you feel. You made it! You didn't quit.

Janet, fantastic job on waiting until you got home to eat...did you ever consider maybe having a few almonds in your purse to tide you over if you were starving? Not even sure if you were hungry.

Linda, I agree with Janet this is a learning process we all will get there eventually :)

Linda, it is a learning process. I have a ways to go in learning.

My NSV - Yesterday I left the house for errands and did not get back until 2 pm. I was not tempted to stop and binge on fast food which was my old habit for unplanned time away during lunch.

My pants are looser this morning than they were when I put them on several weeks ago. Walking is shaping me up. Chistling away at weight loss, but the scale is beginning to move.

I was discouraged yesterday. I tried on 2 dresses that were on clearance. The petite large was tight. The petite XL fit. I bought the PXL since it was on clearance for $14 and will travel well. I need it for my upcoming trip to Italy.

Trying to stay focused on the positive.

Went to see my counselor yesterday "walked there and back" and when she saw me she was like wow look how skinny you are...I said not really, but she said my face has really thinned out..that was a great feeling.

I have been committed to walking more, at least 1/2 hour most days of the week, I feel more lighter and free so walking is becoming easy again.

Feeling better with bladder infection much less painful and got in full therapy walk of 60 minutes...new record endurance and distance for me since my surgery.

Negative in the food department but positive in the attitude area.
White potatoes tempted me - they have always been a comfort food for me and hubby has upset tummy and asked for mashed potatoes so I decided to have some. They did settle in my tummy nicely and their potassium was a nice boost also - not encouraging others to do this but also realizing that I have gone over a month with none, it is OK to have some and then back on plan.

You go girls!

Janet, if feels great when we beat down the voice that tries to talk us out of exercising...I have to quite often especially as I get older...So good for our hearts, that is how I think of it mostly. Just heard to that studies also found that people that exercised in their 60's actually have a lower risk of Alzheimer's....

Linda keep up the great attitude!

Started clearing out clothes that are just too big for me..actually donating them..as I don't plan on ever being in an 18/20 again....

Every bone in my body would love to not exercise. BUT, I made myself walk 40 minutes yesterday, and it was not difficult. I SO NEED it to not be difficult because I'm going on a Rick Steves Tour of Italy in June. Those tours aren't for sissies.

Great job Linda!!!

I also buy the Rotissory chicken all the time..cheap too...for like under $5 you have dinner a couple times, lunch and even use the carcass for soup.

I was thinking about the chickens I bet a win win for the grocery stores as they don't waste any chickens when they are about to expire, just cook them up and sell them faster than if not cooked...love them.....

Victory of no treats when shopping and two business appointments - Took my GGMS made sure I ate before going and passed up my favorite Reeses' PBCups and the check out.
Driving victory of 50 mile round trip by myself with three stops... good in the surgery recovery list.
Being thankful for naps that are helping my healing process too.
Rotissory chicken is really good plan for my home life - good dinner for dear husband and several lunches for me plus make bone broth from bones...I use it to make rice and divide that into 3 oz servings one of the few grains I can have. .

The therapy walks are progressing ...new records weekly in # of steps, length of time and then #of steps within a time ... Also am accepting that I may always the assistance of a cane or two depending on the setting, but that is OK - and better than a wheel chair - and a wheel chair would be better than a bed...so forward HO... I have a definite itemized walking plan with built in rewards and goals so now maybe this month I can get more serious about the weight loss aspects of this health plan. Month of May --- I look forward to you!!!

I'm getting back on track . . . Noticed that when I keep up my walking, it is easier for my food choices to fall into place.

Went for two walks yesterday, once in the morning before work and once after...

Life seems more pleasant now that I'm 40 pounds lighter...20 more to go....

I was doing laundry and my pants kept slipping down, so I tried on my daughter's size 12 and they fit! I have been wearing 14s and 16s!

Doing laundry has never had benefits like this before!

Totally hear ya Kielizsa...matter of fact I have my walking clothes on and plan to go for one before I start my work day.

Once we push past the I don't feel like it and get out there, it is like what the heck, I love doing this so not sure why I try to talk myself out of it!

Ugh! Nothing in me wanted to exercise this morning. When I finally drug myself to the start of my run walk, I couldn't absolutely physically could NOT run. The victory? I still managed to get a great walk in - for the full 30 minutes, as was my goal, even though I was ready to quit at 15 minutes. Perseverance!

Getting healthy is like getting through boot camp. It's a lot of hard work, and some days you want to quit. But when graduation day arrives, memories of pain and trouble pale in the light of the pride and accomplishment you feel. You made it! You didn't quit.
