Thank you for sharing all your info, Panda.

I agree with you, as to with time we adjust to the change of a new tracker. It really makes us feel good when we see positive things taking place with it.

It is so nice of you to share your experience that you have been having with the Zip.

for those with a fit bit zip. well, i just changed my battery and i think the one i just removed lasted about 3 months for me. i was having a hard time trying to get my zip to sync last night as i don't sync much with fitbit as i have it set up to sync and it shows up on my spark page. well, back to last night as my zip didn't sync like i thought it should have so i tried to get it to sync with fitbit. i was all over checking things and it did show my battery was half way. i had my zip close to the computer while doing this and this morning i had a message that my battery needed replaced. i also had an email sent to me about my battery.

this is the message i received in an email today from fitbit.

Your Zip battery level is low. Replace your battery as soon as possible.

Your Fitbit Zip is powered by a 3V coin battery, CR2025. This type of battery can be found wherever batteries are sold.

To replace the battery in your Zip:

1. Insert the provided battery tool into the rear door slot and turn counter-clockwise to unlock the battery door
2. Replace the battery with the positive end facing you and replace the battery door with the arrow pointed toward the unlock icon
3. Insert the battery tool and turn clockwise to lock the battery door - the door should be flush with the rear of the tracker

Your Zip battery should last 4-6 months under normal use. Note that battery life and charge cycles vary with use, settings and many other factors; actual results will vary.

Happy stepping!

For more information visit: http://www.fitbit.com/support

You're receiving this email at -----this is deleted by me as it is my personal email---because you have elected to receive emails for Low Battery.

another small message i was checking the time with my zip and there wan even a batter showing with a slash through it and the battery was just an outline as if the battery is dead.

so i have had several messages letting me know my battery was low and needed replaced. i think placing the zip close to the dongle to sync helped drain the battery quicker.

not complaining, just letting everyone know about the notifications i had from fitbit on my battery.

getting along so far with my fitbit.

just thinking that somewhere along our lives we had at least one thing or more discontinued and we did find something to replace it....we might not of liked it at first, but did get used to it.

I've had a dozen or more pedometer devices. Some are more accurate than others but most are consistent with their tracking. Some are more persnickity about where they are placed like the SPAT. Others are a bit fussy about downloading. Some you didn't see the step numbers unless you got online, but I prefer feedback during the day if I'm not near my devices.

I love my Omron but it doesn't download so it isn't very practical in this digital age. They don't make them any more either. I'm sad but can live with that.

FitBit is a great company and they are probably the leaders in the tracker business. None are perfect. None do everything. I have found something I can live with for now and since the others no longer exist, I can learn to be happy with the advantages of the things that are available. It's about living in the now and moving forward.

I love being able to track my activity and my steps. I'm happy with the numbers produced most of the time. It is not 100% accurate for any number of reasons, but it is probably close enough for a ballpark number. It's probably as accurate as calorie tracking which is also a ballpark number based on an average of dishes and foods of similar size and ingredients.

I do hope you all can find happiness as well. If the Zip doesn't serve you, there are other options from a mechanical device to other digital ones. All need batteries so it is what it is.

Keep moving forward.

Once again I have spent 1 1/2 hours on line with Fitbit tech support solving the SAME issue that I had back in March and a related issue to the one in May. I am feeling very discouraged and am not sure I want them to replace it. I counted on my SPAT to track correctly and get issues resolved quickly - this has been major frustration since I bought it!

Thank God in all things!

There is one problem after another with the Zip. The thing is too, the Spark Activity Tracker was so simple to use. It was reliable, and when you exercised, you could be certain you would get credit for all your exercise. I have marked down how many minutes that I am exercising. Yesterday I did 135 minutes on my stationary bike. I decided that I will now record what I'm exactly doing, because it isn't that I'm just picking up steps in walking through the house or somewhere else, as I'm either on my stationary bike or doing walk aerobics. When I am having lower back issues which I have been for some time, I'm on my stationary bike. Then after all your effort and enthusiasm, it is depressing and disgusting to see the Zip is not showing accuracy. They did not record my last 15 minutes. I am so disgusted with fitbits. They are not dependable. Mine, even though I went to settings, it continually shows a full battery, then when you're exercising putting your heart & soul into your activity with much enthusiasm, your activity doesn't come up because the battery died with no warning. I even signed up for notification when I need to replace the battery, and that wasn't taken care of by Fitbit.
I wanted a simple tracker to wear on my sock like the SPAT. The thing is the SPAT was dependable, and the Zip is unreliable and very disappointing. I guess like many of you I am frustrated , and filled with many negative emotions over this. I'm truly at a loss on what to do.

There are some who buy a larger "wristband" and wear the trackers on their ankles. It is a personal choice.

To all of you; thanks for all the posts. I don't think any kind of 'FitBit' is in my future. Maybe Garmin? I have to admit the Spark Tracker was the best. I still am disappointed Spark couldn't find a way to outright 'buy' the company and their technology and add it to the Spark site. It was simple, always seemed to work; minor glitches with the connections but always came through quickly.

Contact FitBit. You will need information about your purchase date and other information. They are good at customer support. I've had devices replaced and others have even lost their devices and had them replaced. I'm having success with my Zip but I understand your frustration.

Hope you get this resolved quickly

Extremely disappointed! I put in a new battery on June 10th, and here it is June 17th, with no warning, no notification of an email(I signed up for the notification when it's needing replacement, and the setting is showing a full battery.
It is so disappointing and disgusting. I had exercised for a full hour a little earlier, and the Zip recorded nothing. When I saw that had happened, I looked the face of the Zip and it was flashing with a line through the Zip.
I had one Spark Activity Tracker, it had none of these problems. I found the info of my battery before this one died. That one was put in the Zip on May 12th, and it quit working on June 10th, a total of 29 days. This last only lasted 7 days.
A few days ago I was speaking quite highly of this Tracker, and it is a no good as far as I'm concerned when you can't even depend on it. I did what I needed to do, and it failed to do it's part.

I'm willing to do what any of you have done to get it replaced for free. I will not pay for another one. It's pretty sad when you cannot depend on it. Could any of you give me the info on what I need to do. I'd appreciate the info.

Thank you, Janis

WalkingGrandma...i agree with you. i have a fitbit zip and i'm learning more and more about it as i use it. i like the idea of changing a battery instead of charging my tracker as i would forget to charge the tracker. i try and keep a spare battery on hand for when it needs replaced.

There are a lot of options out there. Some like one better than another. I wasn't all that thrilled with the zip. I wanted something more than flashing lights to tell me I've got my steps. More information takes more battery..

I'm a lover of replaceable batteries because the devices seem to have a longer lifespan than a battery that cannot be replaced. Most of the trackers out there now have a lifespan of a year or so.

The market is saturated and cannot grow much more. I'd find some device that I enjoy and use it until it quit working or I find another device I like. I've had several trackers and some have been great fun but didn't meet my needs as well as I'd hoped.

FirBit works well for me but has not got a lot of advantages over the Omron that I have used for years. The truth is that the Omron is no longer made so I've got to decide which device I want to live with when this one quits working.

I do like the blue tooth connection and the ability to track online daily. Spark had that as well and that is one of the things I enjoyed about it.

I hope those of you who aren't thrilled with your device can find a way to track your activity and find peace. The SPAT is no more and for me, I'm moving on.

i've only been using my zip since Feb. when we needed to replace the SPAT. i'm on my 3rd battery. i think the second battery was a used battery that a friend gave me for putting a new battery in her garage door open. i think it lasted a day. the battery i replaced it with is still going. i think this the second month for this battery. i don't sync my zip much daily....i wonder if that makes a difference.

I have only been using the ZIP since we could no longer use our spat. I'm on my 4th Battery now. I believe this last one, that died the night of June 10th, has been the longest lasting one so far. I replaced it right away, so now I have it recorded from day #1. I do not understand why they drain fast. Oh well. I'm getting more familiar with it. I must say the battery is very easy to install,

The Zip stays very securely on my sock. emoticon

I do receive an e-mail when battery is low so I didn't understand how my battery could die when I had gotten notification 3 weeks earlier and had changed it then. Hopefully this battery will work and will last a little longer. If not, then it is a defect in the Fitbit and their support has said they will replace it!

Thank you, PANDA! I do understand what you are saying. You make it easy to understand just as you did when you helped me download the Zip on my computer; I am so grateful. Just like you, I will need an email to notify me.
How long have your batteries been lasting? I'm thinking this last one did better than the previous ones,

i have it set to be notified when my battery gets low.

you have to go to fitbit.com and find the settings symbol which looks like a gear.
click on it, then another page came up. it will bring you to a page that has personal info. on the left side there is a list and the second setting is notifications, click on that...at the top of the list it suggests low battery and 2 boxes you can click. click on the boxes. i don't have a mobile device that works in this area so i have gotten a notification of a low battery in my email of a low battery. so try and see if this works for you.

i hope you can understand what i'm trying to explain.

For the many of us who grew to love the Spark Activity Tracker, we lost a reliable motivator.

It was like our buddy, as we have had a difficult time finding any other tracker to be reliable, and to work as well. I still would love to see it come back, but when we had Team Coaches trying to let us down gently telling us the story about the ending of it, I must say I still do not understand why they could not have kept it working. I doubt that we will ever see it back.

I'm having less trouble with the Fitbit Zip now, as I think I'm getting to know it fairly well. I am going to see how long the battery lasts that I put in it last night. The last time I put in a battery, I've decided to keep a close eye on it. I would go to setting to see the battery level. It was showing a full battery ever since I put it in. Last night when I was syncing it all of a sudden the screen of the Zip was going blank. I clicked my finger on the face of the Zip and it was showing my steps, etc., but then it began flashing the symbol of the battery, with a slash through it. I knew then I better put a battery replacement in right away. I didn't lose anything. But you definitely cannot trust when the setting shows full continually. I was told to look at the settings and it showed it was full the whole time.
We each seem to experience similar problems that don't go away. What can we say? I guess we make the best of it or find a new tracker. I believe I will be sticking with the Zip.
I marked down that I replaced the battery last night, so I 'm going to see just how long it will last. I'm adjusting to the Zip pretty well these days. emoticon

I had changed my battery every few weeks since I bought it (Batteries purchased from 3 different stores.) In the last 2 weeks, it has "died" twice. Support keeps telling me to take the battery out and put it back in. I really am discouraged because I have missed several days tracking.

I miss it too, DEE, very much. It did so much more. I think the Zip is working better now with the batteries. Since I put in the last battery, whenever I check the settings, it is showing a full battery. I check it often, so if it suddenly quits it just keeps enforcing those negative feelings of inferiority. I miss how the SPAT, along with my minutes, I was able to show the exercise I was doing. Maybe we can also do that with the Fitbit Zip, but the SPAT was much easier to follow.
Yes, DEE. The SPAT was such a great product. Many of us who used it, wish we could use it again. It was a far better product, and we didn't have all the problems that we've experienced with the Zip. I doubt we will get it back, and that is SAD! emoticon

My wife and I were both using the sparkpeople trackers and they worked well for us. Finally gave out and we bought "Jawbone" trackers. Had to get three to find two that worked. (did receive our money back on the one).
After 5 months, mine stopped charging and I cannot find any information on replacing the battery and their customer support has never responded to any of my requests.
Now using a free app on my iPhone but cannot input steps which I like to track. I do input minutes and miles and get credit for the calculated calories burned.

I have the Zip also, stopped syncing to SP 2 months ago so I disconnected it from here and post old school here, I go through about a battery a month, and as for the dashboard, it has only synced by its self 3-4 times since Feb. when I click on the download tab most night I need to take out the battery and put it back to get it to download. Then write down the infor and copy it here. Their support by phone or email got me no where although when it first started (on day one) support sent me a new one, I put that one in a drawer as I can get by with this one. Its an expensive pedometer as far as I'm concerned. Good luck to you all.

i think you might need to remove the dongle from your computer and plug it back in when you want to sync your fitbit.

i'm on my second battery and now i'm curious to see how long this battery lasts.

There has to be something very defective in this product for batteries to have so short a life. I does become discouraging in more ways than one.

I have gone through 3 batteries in 2 months and NEVER tap mine. I do have my computer on most of the time. Is there some way of turning off the dashboard so it isn't continually syncing? I really can't afford the batteries at this rate!

Walkinggrandma.....you said what i was going to say. the more your zip is synced and the more your zip is tapped or should i say showing info on it that does wear the battery down. i don't have my computer on all the time. i actually turn my computer or lap top off. my zip doesn't sync much during the day. i tap it once in a while.

if you remember the SPAT didn't show anything unless you tapped it and then the lights lit up to show you where you were with your steps or when you synced. i never kept my dongle in my computer, so when i wanted to sync my SPAT i put the dongle in. so there was less wear on the battery with the SPAT.

the ZIP is more active when you are in motion and syncing so....it will be harder on the battery.

Dee...sorry to hear you are having problem with your zip.

i do know i have problems putting the back on my ZIp when i change the battery. i had it on and closed, but it wasn't on right. so i now look on the back and line up the marks and i get the zip so i can get mine closed. i guess i have fumble fingers.

i know it's not the spat, but i will have to make the best of it and so far i'm happy enough with it. i just wished it would track my activity like the SPAT used to do.

The Zip as well as most other pedometers has a memory and if you aren't there to sync it will keep the information in the device for several days. I try to never go beyond 5 days but it isn't a problem to that point.

The recall on the device is only today but the memory is much longer.

I find that the less I look at it or try to sync it, the happier the battery is and the longer it lasts. Sometimes if I'm using it a lot in the evening when working out (and checking to see how long my exercise has been going or how many steps) the battery will go low. It will return to the normal setting and color when I let things go overnight. I've been surprised to find my batter back to the previous morning amount the next day.

The battery doesn't last as long as the SPAT but it is 4-5 months for me which is not too bad. My Omron went about six months on a similar battery as did the SPAT.

I've never trusted calorie estimates on any device. The only way you could be close is use one of those that measures perspiration and heat and those might not be very accurate either. I just have to figure out what works for me and then do it.

Call me WG

Hi Panda!
Thank you for giving me insight into some of the Fitbit Zip tools. I truly did not realize there was a place to see my battery.
I know I will just have to use the Zip as well as I can, and when it won't sync, I will have to manually put it in. The battery does have a short life span, and if yours lasted months that's wonderful. I've already went through three. I don't know if you would call it a fluke for a battery not to last over two weeks. I really think if I would have continued using the battery that came with the Zip, it may have worked a few weeks longer. From now on I will go to settings. I think this last battery may have last 2 months. I will keep track of it now. Last night it would not sync. It kept saying try again, and then it was approaching midnight when all your steps for the day are gone at midnight.
Thank you, Panda for telling me about the settings. I appreciate learning about the Zip. I really do not want to buy a new tracker, emoticon . So, this is emoticon news for me! - Janis

Good Friday everyone. i get so busy catching up things i need to do daily and have forgotten to check in. just got done reading the thread.

i do remember reading about the fitbit zip having problems syncing to computers or lap tops, well i had a refurbished computer for 4 months and it turned off and i can't turn it back on. will be sending to my brother to look it over and see if it is well....

back to what i want to say. right now i'm on my lap top and it is a windows 7 and my zip has synced to spark. i have my zip set to sync to fitbit and fitbit sends the info to spark and it shows on my spark start page my steps and activity, but it doesn't state what kind of activity. i don't have the time to go to fir bit and track my activities or even to track what my activity was, but it does track my activity. i think if you go to your fitbit dash board and click on your settings it will tell you your battery level.

i guess i was looking for steps to keep me motivated, but i do walking and barn work.

i just replaced my battery in my fitbit and i had it since before the SPAT went away.

need to get moving. have barn work to do.

More disappointments in the Zip, it seems it never stops with something negative. Last night I was trying to sync it after my last completed exercise of the day and it kept saying "Try Again". Then I just knew my last 70 minutes of exercise was not going to download. Then, at that point my Zip showed the battery was done. The Spark was a tracker that gave you warning; you could count on it. We didn't have to worry about syncing it, it just happened. I had to end up manually recording my 70 minutes, and then I don't even know if that will record. I must say I'm disgusted!! I cannot understand why it doesn't let us know that the battery id low and needs to be replaced. Oh yes! That's right! It does tell us the battery need to be replaced when a new battery has been installed you may get a warning a few days to a week later.
emoticon Very upsetting and frustrating!

My FITBIT Zip stopped syncing to SP a little over a month ago, it still syncs to the FB dashboard (although some nights I need to take the battery out, put it back and push the button again before it downloads. It has never downloaded by its self.) so I went back to old school. Post my miles on my fitness page along with any of my work outs. That's the way I did it when I only had a pedometer, so as far as I'm concerned this Fitbit Zip is nothing but an expensive pedometer. I'll continue this way until I find something else, and I wear mine on my hip.

Have a good one everyone. emoticon

Bought a replacement for my SPAT, which had worked great. Didn't understand why the company that made it and handled the data wasn't picked up by someone else. Now I just estimate since the replacement won't sync with my computer and app won't load. Go figure...

I tell you what, after reading all your posts, I don't think I even want one. I have enough going on & don't need something else to worry about & get all upset about ! All these other trackers cost so much more then the SPAT & don't sound like there near as accurate or trustworthy !!! I think I'll just wait it out. I still am using my SPAT. It still lights up as the day goes on. If I was counting my steps I think it is still pretty accurate. Just wish it was all being recorded. The battery had over a 3/4 charge when they shut it down. So i figure it's still counting. But I'm figuring when the battery does die, It might not work at all if I'd put a new battery in. What gets me, I have another SPAT sitting in it's box !!!
I like most of you just wish they could have found a way to keep the SPAT going.
I still wear it on my waist band. As long as it keeps lighting, i'll wear it !

KEEP SPARKLING !!!
Love ya', Flutterfli emoticon emoticon emoticon

I had a SPAT and liked it, when it was discontinued, I researched all the available ones I think I paid around 100.00 for it

Did you first use the Zip, Chris? How much did you have to pay for the Fitbit One?
My battery is working fine, so I have no idea why the leader board did not record all my fitness yesterday. I never experienced problems with my spat, so it'd hard not to get disappointed when things aren't working right with the Fitbit Zip.

I like my FITBIT ONE it charges on my computer in about 20 minutes as I sit here doing nothing anyway..... it lasts about 4-5 days depending on how many times I check to see how I'm doing

How many disappointments do we have to keep on experiencing with these Zip trackers, or others that are just as troublesome?
I had 158 minutes that was recorded on my dashboard as they call it, last night, and it was also registered on my fitness, but on the leader board it only shows 120 minutes. It's very discouraging when you're exercising hard and steady, and it doesn't even record all your fitness, or the battery dies with no warning.
It is VERY DISCOURAGING, AND VERY FRUSTRATING!! IT'S ALSO DISGUSTING!!

I bought a fitbit one it is a little longer than the Spat was and it charges on my computer so no batteries for me. It did take some trial and error on where to wear it, i still put it on my sock and am happy with the results. I also tracks my sleep if I want

Now why in the world would they listen to the people that use a product on a every day basis. I wouldn't hold may breath on getting a user friendly tracker that works the way a normal un-techie person like me could understand and use. Well now that I've "wined" Have a good Sunday and keep picking them up and putting them down.

I wanted something close to the SPAT in looks and the way it works, Zip looks a lot like the SPAT but doesn't perform like it that's for sure. And I have called Fitbit several times and contacted them on their support site, all they did was send me a new Zip as even they couldn't figure out why it doesn't work as advertised, maybe they just are not made to work only with a desk top computer and not synced to smart phone, lap top or tablet all of which we do not have. I do not like the look of the wrist trackers, non of any ones business but mine that I wear one all the time. I like the ones you wear on your hip. emoticon

I've called them twice with questions, when I was looking at trackers on their web site. Heres the phone # 8776234997 If enough people complain, maybe they will do something about it.
The one I'm looking at uses a charger. Which I really didn't want, but it the batterys don't last ???

Last nights download used up yet another battery, replaced it before I went to bed but its still not showing a full battery this morning as yet. I tried calling fitbit when i first bought it in Feb. the first the 45 minute call to support got me a guy who couldn't figure it out so he had me take the battery out and put it then try to download, that worked. Next day I contacted "support" after three days they said they would send me a new one, they did but its still in the drawer. I figure once a day before bed is ok . But a new battery every 5-6 weeks is a bit much. As far as I'm concerned it nothing more then a very expensive pedometer. I put every thing here old school like before SPAT. have a great day.

I think the SPAT had it all over my Fitbit Zip. Replaced the battery once since mid Feb. when it came and it shows its half low again. I disconnected it from SP last month as It wasn't download to here, so have to do the dashboard also, and it doesn't download when I pass the computer, need to be at the computer and push the button on dashboard. And at least once a week need to take the battery out and put it back then push the button again (sometimes 2-3 times) before it downloads. Did anyone see the news about that woman's wrist Fitbit blow up while on her wrist, makes me a bit leary of wearing it at my hip all the time.

Have a good one. emoticon

My Zip is working well today. I don't feel these Zips can be trusted when it is showing a blank screen on the Zip. Last night it began showing me a blank screen but it got revived and it's having a good day with me. emoticon

It probably is under warranty, as I bought it just before we had to close down ours SPATS. I'm not sure if I kept the slip. It was at a very good price at Walmart..it was on sale. I threw away the original battery that came with it. I was notified on my computer that it needed to be replaced. Then a few days later my new battery got the same message; I ignored that message and it finished off February, all of March and into April as of last week with no notification. Exercising like crazy many steps from all day walking activity while shopping, but after I did an hour on my stationary bike the screen was a total blank.. Then this newest battery with nearly 4 days of use is flashing on the tracker. It's pretty disgusting. Biggest mistake was the ending of the SPAT.
I will get a manual tracker, SHEENADEE. emoticon

I hate when something I purchase does not work as advertised too. Is it still under warranty? Good luck!

These trackers are a stressful piece of work. I just changed the battery Thursday night, and here it is, not even four days later and it is showing me on the zip, with a flashing symbol, that the battery is low. Very ridiculous! This makes it three batteries already used up since mid February. I guess I will buy myself a manual step tracker and read the steps off of that. I am not going to continually waste money on these batteries which are not cheap. My Spark activity tracker battery lasted several months, and gave me a warning with plenty of time. Four days??? Fitbits are a piece of junk.
These are one disappointment after another. I doubt that I will ever use a tracker again other than a manual one. I would really have to see one that is impressive, that works like a gem. It would have to be another one that I attach to my sock. It's unbelievable how the batteries have a short life in the Fitbits. These are very good batteries, the Energizer. Something is very defective with the Fitbit products.
I had success installing my Zip with a spark people member, PANDABEAR. With her coaching me it worked so well. I had called Fitbit, someone began helping and when it wasn't going as she expected it to, she told me I needed to call Microsoft as it was an issue with them. I use Windows 7. She gave me the number and told me she would call me back in about one half hour. She never did. I am not impressed with help from Fitbit but I am impressed with help from Spark People members.
Anyways, it looks like my tracker I'm using now will not be used much longer. This may quit at any time, and I can't get to a store until tomorrow. I live out in the country. I may buy a battery tomorrow if it's available but if it's another possible week or so, I will not keep wasting money.
It definitely is telling me it's an inferior product.

P.S. Thank you SHEENADEE, for offering your feedback. I appreciate it, but from what I heard from others from reading about other people trying the Zip, I get the impression this is a defective product.

I feel the same way, DEE! The FITBIT PRODUCTS are INFERIOR to the SPAT.
They are all far more work.

Oh no. Sorry to hear you are having all those issues with your Zip. I have a Fitbit and have had very good experience with it. Have you tried contacting Fitbit's customer support? The couple times I contacted them, they were very helpful (and fast). I hope they might be able to help you.

Good luck!

p.s. I miss the SAT too.

I never had problems with my Spark Activity Tracker. Since I began using my Fitbit Zip, I've had negative experiences.
When we had to start using a new tracker, as the SPAT was no longer going to work, I knew the best one for me would be the Fitbit Zip. I believe it was within a week, or less than two, I got a notification from Fitbit that the battery was low. I never should have believed that, because as soon as I put in a new battery within a few days, Fitbit sent me a notification that the battery was low. I never got any more notices from Fitbit or saw anything that my battery was low. It has to be some type of an inferior system they have, as that was back in February. The battery worked fine until Thursday, after all day movement and over 11,000 steps, then over 30 minutes of exercise, I was getting ready to sync my activity, I looked at the face of my Zip and nothing was on it...totally DEAD!! Disagusting. They say to put your tracker close to your computer when syncing (NEVER HAD TO DO THAT WITH THE SPAT), so a couple of times I forgot to put it back on, so here I am exercising, my Zip is laying next to my computer and nothing gets recorded. We never had to worry about that with our SPAT. There are plenty of issues with these other products.
Has anyone else been having these problems. I am so disappointed in this transition . Some of the Fitbits need to be charged, and our treasured SPAT didn't require all this extra confusion.
I am so disappointed!
