I can sure relate. I have been using the fitbit ZiP but wanted to try one that maybe would do more. I just ordered one from the Veteran's site because they say some of the money goes to wounded warriors, and my husband was retired navy. It will come in today and not sure what the name of it is but they say it syncs to a cloud????? Now I wonder if I should have stuck to a name brand I know, but it was 67 dollars and I could afford that versus hundreds. It is due to get here today by 8 PM and anxious to see if I can even work it or set it, and if it syncs to something on my phone, or spark people, If not I guess it is back to my ZIP till I can afford a fitbit or Garmin again a newer version of Fitbit or another brand.

Please if anyone gets any tracker that is cheaper then the 150 to 200 dollar or more range that works great and easy to set up let me know would you? I loved the old SPAT we had on here before it synced so easy on everything.

Good luck on your new one.

Just got a Garmin. I like it. Is there anyway to have it upload to the sparkpeople site?

Once AGAIN FitBit is replacing my Zip which gave up syncing last Wednesday. They had just replaced it on July 12 (for the second time!) This is 3 that have died! Hopefully this one will last a little longer. but if not, I will NOT get another FitBit. I'm thinking about Garmin - If anyone has input to share I would appreciate your thoughts.

Thank God in all things!

I lost my Fit bit Zip on August 16th. I purchased a manual type tracker, which means it does not hook up to the computer. You keep track of your steps & minutes. I'm happy to report, that hopefully over the weekend, I will hook up/download my Vivo fit Garmin on my computer.

Today I went over to Dunham's and bought the Garmin on clearance for 4$7.67 which included the tax. I wrote to Spark Coach last night to see what they might say, so I felt good about purchasing it. The sale person who sold it to me had one just like it so he gave me info on it.

Do any of you own one, and use one? I'm hoping it will be simple to download. I sure am anxious to begin using a tracker that counts. I hate to say it, but the manual type SUCKS!
It will be good to be back on board.
I would have purchased a Zip, but it seems the price doubled from what I had paid, and I couldn't fint it in the stores anywhere. Amazon wanted, I believe it was $85. I did not want to pay that much for a tracker that did not impress me one bit. It was the total opposite from our SPAT that we could always count on to be reliable.
I'm looking forward to putting my new tracker to use. emoticon

Woke up this morning without my Fitbit One on my wrist...must have taken it off during my sleep! Anyway, last week I had set my silent alarm for 6.45 am for the one morning only. NOw it is flashing on every setting. Has anyone had this problem? I have contacted support but they say it will take a couple of days for them to get back to me. Should I delete the app and set up again? Am I able to do this?

I find the best place for Fitbit One is either on my waistband or my pocket. Sometimes on my socks it didn't seem to register my steps. Also if I wear pants that are too large for me and the waist has to be hitched up above my waist (only wear these inside house) it doesn't register correctly! And yes, it seems to add steps during the day compared to Spark Tracker.

I purchased a Fitbit One, it seems to track more steps than the SPAT did, but it also tracks my sleep, steps for stairs and calories burned. It also will track food and water, it syncs with my Samsung galaxy phone and my computer. I am still trying to figure out where I want to wear it. I didn't like the results on my bra or inside my pocket, so far I am wearing it on my socks.

I got a Fitbit Zip because it seemed to most closely resemble the SPAT.
I've had it 2 weeks; day before yesterday I tapped the Zip & low battery indicator came up, but next time I tapped it was gone, then yesterday received a low battery notification via email.

I contacted Fitbit (Chat) and Tech said battery wasn't making proper contact with the little tiny piece of metal inside in the lower corner. I took out battery, made minor adjustment to that little piece, swabbed that & the long flat piece of metal at the top with alcohol & replaced battery. Then when I synced it showed battery half full.

He did mention that frequent tapping through the day to check my steps will shorten battery life.

Today it still shows half full.

I am using my daughters Fitbit Flex (I think) it's an older one. I don't think it as much as the SP. I liked that I wore on my bra and no one could see it. This one works ok., but I think it is adding about 200 or more steps. Last night I was cross stitching and it counted it as some steps. lol

I also am not crazy about the way the Fitbit works with the fitness tracker. Oh well, I guess I will get used to it.

I find that my fitbit One registers about 2000 steps a day...10,000 steps on fitbit and about 8,000 steps on my spark tracker. Still have to find the best place to wear my fitbit. Had it in sock this afternoon as I didn't have a pocket, and it didn't register my 45 mins on treadmill. I have entered it manually now though.

I bought the Fitbit Zip because I thought it most closely resembled the SPAT. I wear in on my jeans pocket but I think it may show too many steps and I know the calorie count is WAY OFF. I still wear my SPAT on my shoe and when my Zip says 10,000 steps I check the SPAT to see if it lights up. I too miss my SPAT and think it was the best tracker.

Today is the reward for all of your yesterdays' choices.

I'm feeling exactly as you, DEE. Nothing matches the SPAT. My reason for the Zip is also because I attach it to my sock..
I was shocked to get a notification a few days ago that my battery was low, so it was advising me to replace it after only a few weeks. It is suppose to be good from 4 to 6 months. I sure hope my energizer battery has a longer life.
I miss the Spat too. emoticon

I lost my SPAT while on Thanksgiving vacation. I was sad that I couldn't buy another because it's such a great product. My first replacement was a Garmin, but the strap was too small for my wrist, it was bulky and I didn't think it was attractive enough to wear every day. I returned it. The following week, I saw the FitBit HR was on sale, so that's what I bought. I bought one with a large strap and it fits just fine on my wrist. I like it, but the battery doesn't last as long. Also, it keeps track of my arm movement, so I don't feel it's as accurate as my SPAT.

I bought a fitbit One as I don't like anything on my wrists but my watch! I didn't think I would like it but it is ok. It shows steps, floors (how many flights of 10 stairs), miles and calories expended. On the app on my iPad I can enter my food journal and it will show my sleep log along with all the others mentioned.
My husband has a fitbit flex 2 that shows more or less the same and he has the app on his ipad too.

I miss my SPAT. It was the best Tracker ever. I have a Zip. I just began using it on the 21st or 22nd of February, it I go a notification in my email the battery is low. It is suppose to work from 4 to 6 months. I loved everything about the SPAT. I feel the Zip is the only one that will work similar to the SPAT, but it definitely is inferior to the SPAT.
What Fitbit did you purchase, DEE? Good luck in whatever one it is.

Elizabeth,

I'm curious about the all day activity. The only thing the fitbit flex 2 appears to track is workouts. I have absolutely no information regarding number of minutes of activity for the day.

Janis---right now I don't have the fitbit set up for spark so only the spat downloads to spark and the zip downloads to fitbit. I'm in jeans most of the time and I usually put my spat and have the zip placed side by side on the watch pocket. that is where the hip movement is. when I don't have a watch pocket I put it on my waist band and try and get it where there is movement from the hip bone. you can feel it when you move your leg. I know last summer I didn't have the spat set right and I walked almost a mile and it only recorded not even half of the mile. I had the spat in not near the hip bone. it didn't even record 10 minutes of walking for me either. don't know how the zip will be.

have fun experimenting on where to place your zip.

Thank you, PANDABEAR for all this information. I didn't think it would be good to have both trackers running on the computer. Won't that get things messed up? I only have one computer and no i phone or smartphone. Will both trackers, the SPAT and the Zip download to the spark website?
I will program the Zip to my computer soon. I appreciate your encouragement. I love my SPAT and will miss it. I clip it on my sock, so I will do the same with the Zip. When I tried using the SPAT on the waistband and bra it did not seem to do anything.
If there is anything else that might be helpful in direction of using the Zip, I appreciate the feedback. Your feedback is very helpful. It's truly very kind of you and the other Sparker.
With Sincere Thanks, Janis

AllenJoseph...I would get my fitbit zip working now and do some comparisons. when I got my zip I connected it to fit bit but not to Spark yet. been doing some comparisons myself. I do like the zip, but not as much as the Spat. the zip doesn't seem to track your activity, unless I missed something on setting it up. I will not pay for the premium for the zip. I'm ok with the steps as it tracks close to what the spat tracks, it also tracks miles which is also close to what the spat tracks....now the calories tracked re way off than the spat and the zip is the one way off. now there is a clock on the zip so you can track your activity if you remember to look at the clock when you start and finish. there is a place to log it. now it wants the amount of calories you used, which I have been keeping track of what my spat is tracking so i can enter the correct calories.

i started a journal comparing the 2 each day. will definitely miss the spat, but i guess we need to move on as things keep changing.
ted
i do like the zip for what it is worth as i do like something to be unnoticeable when i wear it. i really want to look at my steps as that is what keeps me motivated to move more, which is something i need to do. it's nice to see the miles you move and i have decided to handle the calories by just looking at the first 3 numbers. if the calories are 2198 then i usually look at the 218 and forget the 8. this is some what close to the spat or under what the spat trakcs.

hope this is helpful for you.

I was going to order a Fitbit Zip from Amazon. I didn't realize it wouldn't be difficult to purchase from a store. Because the time is getting so close to changing to a new one, I checked it out on Amazon. It would have cost me close to $60. I was afraid it wouldn't arrive on time. I then went to the Walmart website, the same price, but it looked like it would not arrive on on time. I decided to go to the store and see if they could help me order it, or possibly they would have it. They had it, and it had been marked down to $34. It was the exact one I wanted.
I'm wondering if I should hook it up on the 20th. I hope it works as good as the SPAT . I love my SPAT!

Jeanne, at least your tracker is smart enough to "split" a workout. Mine (the One) lumps everything I do during the day into a single pot called "all-day" activity. Talk about UGH!

Yeah. My fitbit did something quirky today too. It split a 41 minute walk/run into two separate workouts and missed 9 minutes of tracking. Not sure what that was about. Mine just is not tracking well for me.

I suspect some of the over counting may have to do with the fact that I talk with my hands. And, the tracker is a wristband tracker. So, maybe that has something to do with it.

For the life of me, I have no idea why it split a 41 minute walk/run into 2 workouts and dropped 9 minutes of tracking. My arms are moving when I'm walking and running.

My grand daughter used her free phone app tracker for a long time and said it worked really well for the price.

I went to Target and bought a seriously reduced, end of the year model, Garmin Vivoactive. I am wearing it as a watch along with my beloved Spat on my shoe. I am not a watch wearer but I seem to be adjusting okay. With just a few days use, I seem to be getting 10 to 20% more steps with the Garmin. I do not pay attention to the calorie burn.

It is waterproof, has many features that with DH's help we set up today such as a timer, phone call and message alert. I have an older Smart Phone and I was not sure that these would work. It seems to charge very fast and easy much like a phone (but warns not to charge next to your computer as it has a magnet). I have not connected it up to my computer or SP yet. I'm still trying to figure it out. If anyone is interested in this tracker, I will gladly update as I learn.

Has anyone considered just using the free app on their smart phone? Mine seems to count steps very closely to what the SPAT tracks. I only use my SPAT for steps and not for anything else.

I've been wearing my Zip on my waist, and it's tracking much higher step counts than the SPAT on my shoe. I tried the Zip on my shoe during an elliptical workout, and it didn't count about 15% of the steps the machine counted, though to be fair, the SPAT is off a similar number on the elliptical, as well.

I have the zip and it is worn like my spat and some of the numbers are even calculated lower than the spat for me.
do you think wearing the fitbit on the arm could be the reason things are more way off?

I have been wearing my fit bit right beside my spat on my watch pocket. that is where I have always wore it. so the only movement my fit bit gets is when I'm moving my legs like in walking. when I looked at the steps the spat actually tracked more steps and the miles were close to the same.

getting ready for drs. app. so later when I have time I will post some of my comparisons.
I did the comparisons for almost 2 weeks.

Decided to compare the numbers that I could compare ... Spark Activity Tracker vs Fitbit Flex 2 and have decided that I will return to manual fitness tracking. I just cannot trust the numbers from the fitbit at all.

So, here's what I could compare ...

Total miles ... fitbit over estimated by 12.5%
Fitness minutes ... fitbit over estimated by 20.7%
There was no way for me to compare total minutes since the fitbit does not provide them.
There was no way for me to compare calorie burn; but, I can clearly see that the calorie burn estimates cannot be trusted.
Going back and looking at the calorie burn data specifically for the workouts ... the fitbit over estimated by 106% ... meaning that the fitbit more than doubles calorie burn associated with workouts.
Total steps ... fitbit over estimated by 108% ... meaning that the fitbit tracks more than double the steps than the Spark Activity Tracker does.

For those of you that are curious, this is a comparison of 24 days worth of data.

Yeah. Not sure that I'm going to be able to get much out of this fitbit now that I can clearly see the numbers, truly, are garbage for me. Perhaps, a different fitbit would be more accurate. But, one of my fitness buddies had told me that she would not go back to a fitbit because she felt the fitbit data was so inaccurate. And, that is clearly the case for me too.

I have noticed with the zip my steps are off by a couple hundred less than the sparkie. I will settle for that. the total miles are fairly close. I can handle that. yes, the calories are way off. what I have noticed is if I take the first 3 numbers of the calories burned are close most days to what my sparkie has. some days even the first 3 numbers are off, but on some other days the first 3 numbers are off in the opposite way. so I think I can deal with that also.

the last few days I have been less active due to a cold and being tired and no energy. some of my walks have been not because of icy roads. I am finally figuring out what to do in the house to do some walking. feeling better will see what Monday brings.

I wound up with a Fitbit Zip, and I'm having a hard time with its syncing to SP. I find the calorie burn annoying as well, Jeanne, though I've been deleting the exercise anyway, because I'm wearing both trackers right now. I'm not sure if you can edit the activity on the My Fitness tracker to give you the right activity with the SP burn for it. I'm thinking the same as several of us--disconnecting it from SP and just using it on their app and manually putting in the information on SP.

I've also considered just giving it to my husband and going back to the way things were before the SPAT. I also liked the accuracy of the SPAT's calorie burn, even though I wasn't as good at using it as Jeanne, I could tell that the numbers weren't like the bloated estimates they give you on cardio machines. If I use Fitbit's burn, I think I will estimate it at 50% of what Fitbit is telling me.

yes, the waistband. try and place your hand towards your hip bone and find where the movement is when you move that leg on the side you want to put your Zip.

If you don't happen to have a watch pocket, try the waistband. That works well, too.
