I replaced my spark tracker with vivofit not for sync reasons although I do like the fact that I synch the tracker to my phone anytime instead of waiting to sync to my desk point where my sync point was located. I replaced mine because I kept losing it. My vivofit is a wrist tracker and it's also a watch so I like that a lot.

I just tap my Fit Bit and it syncs without a problem It normally syncs anyway, but if it isn't doing it for some reason, tapping it like we did with the SPAT works fine. I don't take it off to do that.

GARDENCHRIS is correct. Fitlinxx, the manufacturer of the Spark Activity Tracker, went out of business in February and we needed them to be in business in order for the syncing process to happen.

They really were the best! I'm getting used to my Zip. I do like that I can sync it to my smartphone, but that you guys don't have to! I disconnected it from SparkPeople because the calorie counts were utterly preposterous, but the manual ones I put in now under My Fitness tracker aren't great, either. I cut the weekly totals in half for my purposes, which underestimates them, based on what I knew from the SPAT, but better than overestimating. The accuracy on the SPAT was its best feature, IMO, and I don't know if anyone is even trying to top that.

I'm 4'10.5". A normal BMI for my height tops out at 121.

I like my Fit-bit Zip, but loved my Spark Activity Tracker the best; it was the best.
I know some or maybe most of the Fit-bits need to be charged, but not the Zip, so I'm happy about that. What I dislike, is the fact that in order for it to sync, you need to take off the Zip and put it up to your computer. As a result for needing to do that, two times after some lengthy exercise I realized I didn't have it on. It is so easy to forget when we had it so easy with our Spark Activity Trackers.
I still miss the fact that our SPATS are obsolete now. emoticon They were the BEST!

Does Spark People not support the old Spark activity tracker any more? I've been using it but couldn't find the usual way to upload. Thanks for any help.

I charge my Fitbit while I am sitting at the computer, drinking my morning coffee. It seems to take only 20 minutes or so to charge up.

Me too!! emoticon emoticon

I wore my SPAT and the Fitbit both for about a month. Everything is pretty accurate on the Fitbit except the calories. They are WAY off. I'm all about the steps and I really like seeing how I sleep at night. I have a hard time finding the right time to put it on the charger since I like tracking my sleep. I wish it ran on batteries like the SPAT did.

I got my Fitbit Zip and it seems to be working fine. The calories it says I burned each day would have me weighing about 12 pounds by now, but I don't use it for that anyway. I just like to track my steps. The hardest thing is trying to make sure I put it on in the morning. I left home without it yesterday and had to track my steps with my phone.

I sure do miss my SPAT!!!

Today is the reward for all of your yesterdays' choices.

I think I'd like the Fit Zip. Does anyone know if it will sync with Window 8.1? The Fit website says that it will sync with Windows Vista and later. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm going to REALLY miss my SPAT!!! I know that they said that it will 'stop working'. I've been tracking with both the SPAT and the FitBit Charge HR for some time. A challenge that I'm on (the 5% Challenge) is doing weekend step challenges. This is what I found with my SPAT/FitBit. The difference is considerable:

1/14/17:
SPAT Steps: 6,396
FitBit Steps: 9,720
***Average: 6,396 + 9,720 = 16,116 / 2 = 8,058***

1/15/17:
SPAT Steps: 7,872
FitBit Steps: 11,930
***Average: 7,872 + 11,930 = 19,802 / 2 = 9,901***

1/21/17:
SPAT Steps: 4,348
FitBit Steps: 5,178 (plugged FitBit in to charge it and forgot to put it on again! - this is what I HATE about the FitBit)
***Average: 4,348 + 5,178 = 9,526 / 2 = 4,763***

1/22/17:
SPAT Steps: 6,032
FitBit Steps: 11,964
***Average: 6,032 + 11,964 = 17,998 / 2 = 8,999***

1/28/17:
SPAT Steps: 6,912
FitBit Steps: 13,116
***Average: 6,912 + 13,116 = 20,028 / 2 = 10,014***

1/29/17:
SPAT Steps: 7,220
FitBit Steps: 12,627
***Average: 7,220 + 12,627 = 19,847 / 2 = 9,923.5***

2/4/17:
SPAT Steps: 6,832
FitBit Steps: 12,963
***Average: 6,832 + 12,963 = 19,795 / 2 = 9,897

2/5/17:
SPAT Steps: 6,180
FitBit Steps: 11,860
***Average: 6,180 + 11,860 = 18,040 / 2 = 9,020

2/11/17:
SPAT Steps: 3,464
FitBit Steps: 5,845
***Average: 3,464 + 5,845 = 9,309 / 2 = 4,654

2/12/17:
SPAT Steps: 5,684
FitBit Steps: 8,015
***Average: 5,684 + 8,015 = 13,699 / 2 = 6,849

There seems to be a consistently HUGE difference. Either way, for convenience ~ and for not having to plug it in, I'm going to miss my SPAT!

Thank you for all your info in the spark goodie, and thank you for this info here. I recall Windows XP being a Windows that came our before Windows 7. I never heard that and when I got my Computer, Windows Vista was on is, but Windows 7 was a special that was sent to me as a special.
I'm going to be gone in a few hours and will not make it back home until somewhere around 6. Tomorrow I will be gone again, then I can take a breather but trying to download this is not easy, but I will be working on it. I will reread your info. The gal at fitbit told me to install the dongle before I was prompted to do it. I thought she should know more than me, but I guess not. I will delete these programs from Wizard, if they're in my programs, and I'll start over.
Thank you, PANDABEAR!

What Windows program do you have, PANDABEAR? On the box of the Zip, it says on it it's compatible with Windows XP & later, which should mean anything after which is Windows 7, and anything else. I was working on that with fitbit and microsoft for more like 3 hours late today. A gal from fitbit said she'd call me back sometime after my conversation with microsoft, and she never did. VERY DISAPPOINTED! And, I think she probably realized she made a mistake telling me to install battery in tracker, and install the dongle. She most likely avoided calling me. I was doubting she'd call me after ending previous conversation with, "Have a good evening!" The evening was long gone as far as I felt. emoticon

Seeing what it says on package though makes me wonder why it wouldn't be for Windows 7.

Ladies, i have the Zip and windows 10, but I don't remember seeing anywhere it saying it could only be used with windows 10. Call or email support @ fitbit and ask. Phone number for support is 877-623-4997. We also don't have tablets, smart phones, just a desk top computer and flip phones, no land line. Good luck.

Janis...I hope you get your zip downloaded. I'm not the smartest with the computing, but I do manage the best I can. I'm like you that we have a landline and a cordless that is my landline. we need a phone that is attached to the phone line because when we loose power we can atleast use the phone.

when you are setting up your zip the fitbit will walk you through it. I wish it was that easy setting up the new computer my son got me for Christmas. I'm still having problems figuring out what I need to do and it has windows 10...not looking forward to figuring that out.

let me know how you make out with your zip setting up.

Thank you, for all this info. It puts my mind at ease. I tried doing a google search a couple of time and it did not give me info to tell me it's compatible with Windows 7.
I only have a landline phone, so if that is the only way it would work with having apps. and all the other stuff which I know nothing about, I'd be out of luck.
I'm so glad you told me this. If I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow, I will most likely work at downloading the program for the Fitbit Zip. I'm looking forward to learning. Thank you for being such a big help, PANDABEAR!

Sincerely, Janis emoticon emoticon

I have windows 7 on my lap top and the zip is syncing to it. at first I thought it wouldn't, but I sat down again a few days later and it is syncing to my laptop which has windows 7 for operating. I think I missed a step when setting it up. I just went back through the set up procedure again and it works.

yes, some need a cell phone or something with Bluetooth to sync. I don't have Bluetooth on my laptop. my cell phone doesn't work where I live due to dead areas as I live in a very rural area. I use a trac fone because I purchase a year contract as that is the cheapest deal for me and it works.

one of the reasons I got the zip is because it has the dongle and it syncs to my laptop.

give it a try and see what happens for you.

I know that the Zip and the UO Move would not sync to windows 8.1.
I had open my packages and I sent them both back. I went through Amazon and just clicked on return and when they asked why I said it would not work on my computer. There was no problem. I printed out the return label and put it on the package to go back. Most of the devices only work on the phones. I do not have one or plan on getting one. Will just have to post the old fashion way I guess.

I hope this helps. All you can do is try downloading it and see if it works. I even had Fitbit support try and that is when they said I needed window 10

PANDABEAR42, will the Zip connect with my Windows 7? I sure hope so. I already opened the package, and I actually didn't notice that it emphasized that you could only use certain Windows programs.

Thank you for giving me necessary feedback. I hope it's the right program for my Windows 7.

I ordered the Zip and it would not sync to my laptop as I have windows 8.1 and I need windows 10. My computer does not have the memory for 10 so am out of luck. I sent it back. I have been checking the different ones and now most of them only sync to w 10.
I will also miss my Spat.

Janis I have both my spat and zit to my computer, but only one right now to sync with Spark. I will eventually figure out how to sync it with Spark, but right now I just check my zip at the fitbit site.

I really appreciate all the feedback from you and PANDABEAR, WALKINGGRANDMA. It is very helpful, all the information.
Since we had no choice about getting ourselves another tracker, unless we don't want to track, we had to select something.
I will program the Zip to my computer soon. I love my SPAT and will miss it. I clip it on my sock, so I will do the same with the Zip. When I tried using the SPAT on the waistband and bra it did not seem to do anything.
If there is anything else that might be helpful in direction of using the Zip, I appreciate the feedback. Your feedback is very helpful.
With Sincere Thanks, Janis

JosephAllen...I agree with WalkingGrandma.

I posted on another forum about my zip. I do like it as best I can, but I think the spat is the best one. the zip has many qualities close to the spat.

some who have gotten other fitbits that are worn on the wrist are tracking steps higher and I think it is picking up the wrist movement and adding steps. I went with the zip because I wanted something on my waist and closest to the spat and so far I think it is the better one for tracking steps.

Step count on a Zip is comparable to a SPAT. I don't use the calorie counter as I haven't found one to be all that accurate. I track my intake manually and don't use the "burn" that I would get from the trackers.

The ZIP fits on the waistband and is quite accurate there. It has a strong clip that is replaceable and I enjoy that. It also has a replaceable battery (2025) which costs a bit more than the 3032 but is easily available.

I love that I can connect via bluetooth anytime as opposed to the dongle. I don't do it often and don't keep it connected as the battery is used to send the signals. I didn't track with the dongle more often than I had to either as I don't need a report every 100 steps.

The tracker will download to Spark and that is a plus. There is also a community on FitBit that has challenges for the weekend, holidays, etc that tracks our progress against our teammates which is also fun.

I do like that the steps show up on the device as opposed to the lights. It is easy to check and use.

I like the other Fit Bit devices but so many of them are on the wrist which may or may not be as accurate for many people. They also have an internal battery. I had a Fit Bit One and it charged for about a year then quit. It is a bother to have to replace your device so often.

I switched to the Zip and enjoy it. I haven't given up the SPAT until the last day. Then we'll see. I might be done tracking on Spark after that. It is easy, but I don't know. The SPAT tab won't be there and it will be hard to feel a reward by doing it.

Paula Jean, I'm happy to hear that you really like your Fitbit Zip. I just got mine yesterday, and I'm looking forward to using it. I hope it works as well as the SPAT.
Have you been using the Zip for very long. I'd love feedback on it. I wanted to get a Tracker similar to the SPAT, and I think the Zip comes close.

My Fitbit Flex 2 arrived yesterday. I'm not going to connect it to my SparkPeople account until the SPAT is cut off. I'm really glad I ordered a set of 3 bands at the same time. The band that came with the Fitbit is hard to latch and while the lavender looks pretty online it verges closer to brown IRL. So I'm wearing a white band with black paw prints that fastens like a watch band. Much better.

Looked at the lavender in bright light and it does look lavender. Guess it was the lighting in the room where I opened the box.

I had a Fitbit one before the Spat came out. It has an internal battery and the battery lasted about a year. I had other problems with it but it worked fine. I also got a Striiv which I think is no longer in business. It had an internal battery.

I have worn each device next to my old device to see how accurate they are. I have found that most are about the same within a couple of hundred steps over the day.

I agree that the devices that fit on the wrist are dependent on the movement of the arms so if you hold onto something while walking, it will record lower. They also have an internal battery and they have a limited lifespan.

The Fitbit Zip is physically closest to the Spat. I like that it has bluetooth capability. I linked it to my phone and not my computer and it works fine. It uses a 2025 battery which is different than the SPAT. It costs a tiny bit more but is readily available and lasts 4-6 months depending on how often you sync it. The clip on the Zip will hold on almost anything.

It is sad that SPAT will no longer be with us but there are a lot of choices out there and finding one that works for me is a fun challenge.

emoticon Good afternoon all. I have been testing several devices, started before the notification about SPAT. I have to say, SPAT will always be the better device to me. I started comparison with Garmin Viovofit3 and this week received the Fitbit Charge 2. Where to begin.....SPAT far exceeds both in the tracking arena.

Viovofit 3 can be worn with a clip, but the only one I could find is on Amazon. Haven't ordered the clip yet. Using in bracelet form for the time being, The numbers between SPAT and Viovofit3 were off each and every day. Their dashboard is not user friendly and you have to purchase a separate dongle if you are using a computer versus smartphone.

Charge 2, interesting piece of work. You can stand still and swing it and it will count that movement as steps. That's why everyone (including Fitbit community page on their site) are getting higher numbers.

I'm currently wearing all 3 to determine which arm device is the better option. Neither identifies activities the way SPAT does. This has to be done manually and their options are limited.

If you're tracking on computer, with Fitbit, you need Windows 10 and you have to have Bluetooth compatible computer and have to download the windows 10 app to the computer.

Hope this helps. Still trying to find the best one, but we're losing that one.

I've decided to replace my SPAT with the Fitbit One that I had purchased in June - it tracks more closely with the SPAT than the Jawbone Up Move that I tried and is more user friendly for me because I don't do well with the phone App.

Offering the Jawbone Up Move to anyone who would like to have it. Clip-on tracker, uses the same battery as SPAT but requires smartphone app for syncing.

I got a Fitbit Flex and wore it and my SPAT for a full day yesterday.

Here's the comparison:

SPAT
Steps: 13,980
Calories: 612
Minutes: 138
Workout: 29
Miles: 7.33

Fitbit
Steps: 12,582
Calories: 2,017
Workout: 23
Miles: 5.86

I think the difference in steps is that the Fitbit doesn't get an accurate step count when I'm walking on the treadmill and holding on. I'm going to try swinging my arms when I walk and see if the count gets closer.

The calories burned are WAY off. I don't really look at that so not an issue here.

I am fascinated with the sleep tracking. It's an added plus with the Fitbit.

JeanKnee...thank you for your advice.

thank you everyone.
isn't something how we get used to one thing and then when it will work no more, but with the Spark tracker it will no longer be supported and we need to find a replacement and how difficult it can be.

it is so wonderful that everyone on the team is pulling together and voicing what they bought or thinking of purchasing to replace the SAT and helping others out.

thank you.

Thanks! I saw it, and I agree about really wanting a non-wrist one. The 3 has some different features from the 2, including both automatically counting activity and ability to "tell" what activity you're doing the way the SPAT does (walking, running, cycling), though the accuracy of it seems to be a bit hit-or-miss. Regardless, there's going to be a learning curve and an adjustment period. Blurgh.

After doing a bunch of reading, I'm leaning toward a Garmin Vivofit 3. It's worn on the wrist, which kind of stinks, but it seems like the activity tracking is what I'm looking for, and it uses a watch battery, so that's a nice feature, too. Will let y'all know when I buy it and give it a whirl.

Okay, my 1-2 day brief overview comparing SPAT, Jawbone Up Move, and Fit Bit One. Please note that all I track is steps and activity, not calorie burn. Also all three are clip-type trackers, not wristbands.

Yesterday: SPAT reported 13,322 steps vs 13,890 from the Fit Bit so Fit Bit was a bit higher but not enough that I consider them to be drastically different. The Move, on the other hand registered just barely over 10K steps or about 30% fewer. Ugh!

Today so far, I just finished my walk and the numbers currently are: SPAT 10,108, Fit Bit 10,017 (again close) with the Move at 8,121 again 25% fewer.

Is for mileage, I can't tell that Fit Bit measures for the activity part separately so daily total yesterday was 6.1 miles with 600 few steps on the SPAT and 5.8 miles on the Fit Bit. I haven't even figured out how to get that info from the Move.

As for ease of use:
Fit Bit transfers data via a dongle and requires charging (approximately weekly) via USB.
Up Move transfers data via smart phone app and uses the same battery as the SPAT, expected battery life 4-6 months.

I don't care for the phone app. It is hard to figure out how and when it uploads data. It was difficult to get the app and the device "paired" but ridiculously easy to accidentally "up-pair" them. It took at least a dozen attempts to "re-pair" them after that. I joined the Jawbone team just for info to quickly discover that others were having the same issues. I even received spark mail from a Sparker I've never "met" asking if I agreed that the Move is a piece of junk. The Move Up is no longer being offered by Jawbone and there is definite speculation that the company is on the verge of going out of business.

In short, I cannot recommend the Jawbone Up Move to anyone. While not 100% thrilled with my Fit Bit (which I bought last June thinking I wanted a sleep tracker), it is nevertheless what I will be using once the SPAT is no longer functional. If I'd been smarter in June, I probably wouldn't have purchased the Fit Bit One (I don't really want the sleep tracker function after all) and would now be purchasing the Fit Bit Zip as the replacement tracker.

For whatever it was worth....that's my opinion from my little experiment.

PANDABEAR42, You sound like me. No Amazon account here either. I purchased the fitbit flex 2 from our local Target store and figured that I'd use the Amazon gift card to purchase accessories for the tracker like a replacement dongle, clip, etc. If you have friends with an Amazon Prime account, see if they'd be willing to run your order through their account to save you shipping charges and the need to set up an account that you aren't going to use.

KATIE3908, Excited to see that there will be another fitbit flex 2 user. We can help each other along. There was something that I noticed on Saturday, January 14. It appears that the fitbit flex 2 tracked an 11 minute walk at 5:39 pm and the Spark Activity Tracker tracked no workout minutes for that day. So, the fitbit appears to be far more sensitive to movement than the Spark Activity Tracker.

I suspect that the fitbit will generally overestimate things. That's okay as long as I know that I cannot trust the numbers and I need to take them with a grain of salt and realize that I'm not moving as much as I think and I'm not burning as much as I think. When I get back to running I'll be using my Garmin Forerunner 620 with its heart rate monitor to track those workouts and I trust that Garmin watch.

I'm sad that we will be losing the Spark Activity Tracker though because I did use the calorie burn data and I trusted it. Those numbers worked so incredibly well for me during my weightloss phase that it was scary! We're talking EXTREMELY ACCURATE!!!

JANCARD, Yeah! You've got your hands on a clip for the fitbit flex 2. Yes. Please do share your experience with it. Thanks!!!

JPELCHAT, I am using the fitbit flex 2 in the wristband that accompanied it. So, my Spark Activity Tracker is on my foot and the fitbit flex 2 is on my wrist. I also think that the accelerometers used in the Spark Activity Tracker are more sophisticated than the accelerometers used in the fitbit flex 2. So, although the fact that I'm wearing the devices in 2 different places can play a part, I think the biggest difference has to do with the algorithms used for calculating and the different accelerometers in the trackers.

I did some checking on Amazon on the trackers and the one I found that might be the closest to the Spat is the fitbit zip. it seemed to be the closest and will work for me. it takes a battery and has the clip for clipping it on what you want to. I also watched a video that was posted and this person put the fitbit zip in the watch pocket of their jeans. I usually place my spat on my watch pocket of my jeans. this fitbit zip is around 60 dollars on Amazon.

I was leaning towards the jawbone up at first until I saw you have to have a Bluetooth app. or a cell phone. don't have the use of Bluetooth. I have a cell phone, but I live in a rural area and live in a dead zone...as the commercial says "can you hear me now, doesn't work for me.
the fitbit zip states it has a dongle to connect to your computer so that is another reason I've chosen the fitbit zip. now I have another question.

I did sign up for the amazon gift card, but was told I will get my code February 13 for the gift card. I wanted to get the zip now and use the gift card on it, but it seems like that won't happen. this will be the first time I will purchase anything from amazon. did anyone use their 10 dollar gift card or get it to use on their new tracker?

I'm going with the Fitbit Flex 2 too. I have downloaded the app on my Kindle Fire and set up an account. Hope to get to the store tomorrow to make my purchase.

Let us know what you think about it when you get up and tracking.

JEANKNEE thanks for the comparison. I never have paid too much attention to calorie burn so that's not an issue with me but it is a significant difference for someone that relies on calorie burn accuracy.

Yesterday I bought a Fitbit Flex 2 and also a separate clip holder on Amazon. My husband said it doesn't look like the clip will work with it, but I'm going to give it a shot. Will let you guys know.

I just know I am going to miss my SPAT. Thanks to everyone for the helpful information and support!

I have a Garmin Vivio Fit2 It is a wrist worn device, it tracks time, date, steps, steps goal, miles, calories burnt, sleep. It has a red arrow bar that has a quiet beep to let you know it's time to move. It's nice, effective, HOWEVER, I once walked over 3,000 steps and a couple miles just making super. It only detects movement, not if you are exercising or not. I wear it 24/7 and because the wrist band is plastic, it starts to smell after awhile so it needs to be washed quite frequently.
I will be looking for another tracker thing that attaches to my shoes.

Okay, you all ... I, finally, have some workout numbers from the two trackers for comparison.

I went to the gym and walked on the treadmill for an hour. The treadmill has a 5 minute cool down following the workout and here's what the two trackers had to say ...

Spark Activity Tracker
Walk Event
Time 4:25 PM
Minutes 66
Calories Burned 182
Steps 7,940
Miles 3.79

Fitbit Flex 2
Walk
Time 4:25 PM
Minutes 66
Calories 451
Steps 7,754

The fitbit flex 2 identified the workout as a walk. Both it's time and minutes agreed with the Spark Activity Tracker. The steps are fairly close. It's the calorie burn that's throwing me for a loop. I need to do more reading. I have a fair degree of confidence that I can get it figured out. But, it's obvious to me that the fitbit calculates calorie burn differently than the Spark Activity Tracker.

The thing I really appreciate about the Spark Activity Tracker is the calorie burn estimates are conservative. I've actually checked them against my Garmin Forerunner 620 with the heart rate monitor and there are times that the data is identical. So, I feel really pretty confident about the calorie burn data coming from the Spark Activity Tracker. And, it is fantastic that the activity vs fitness calorie burn are distinguished.

I see that the fitbit is distinguishing between the activity (1583 calories) vs fitness (451 calories). My gender, age, height and weight are all entered.

The difference in calorie burn is huge! We're talking nearly 2.5 times more from the fitbit versus the Spark. This makes me wonder how many folks using fitbits think they're "doing everything right" and not losing any weight. Well, the numbers they're using could be WAY OFF.

Unless I can figure out what's happening with the calorie burn data, I can see that it is not going to be useful. Thank goodness I was using a Spark Activity Tracker prior to my pelvic injury and the calorie burn data that I had could be trusted. I cut nutritional intake based on those numbers and it worked superbly!

I can see that balancing intake and outtake may be a bit trickier with the fitbit.

I know I am thinking about the garmin vivofit since it does not have any metal in the wristband and that is why I can not wear watches due to a nickel allergy. But as you all say my heart is not in the change. I love my SPAT.

Ugh, I am SO TORN!!! I really, I just can't believe how the SPAT has all these features that I like and no one else seems to. What is going on???!?!!?

I decided that the thing I want most is that the tracker can tell what I'm doing, like the SPAT says, "Walk Event," "Cycle Event," etc. I am not sure what does and does not do that.

The second most important thing for me is I don't want a chargeable. I want a watch battery like the SPAT.

Third most important is being clip-on, but that's third on my list, so I guess I can take it or leave it. But ugh, I don't want to leave it.

I don't want a Fitbit because even before Jeanne confirmed it with actual numbers, I heard that the calorie counts were grossly overestimated.

I think I'm leaning toward the Jawbone Up Move, but then I read that Jawbone is in financial trouble. The last thing I need is to fall in love again and have it ripped away from me...again.

So torn...

So, I did not walk yesterday. But, here are the fitbit vs Spark stats for yesterday (Saturday, January 14)

Spark Activity Tracker
Steps 3072
Calories 73 (0 fitness calories)
Minutes 59 (0 fitness minutes)
Miles 1.50

Fitbit Flex 2
Steps 4814
Calories 1544
Minutes 0
Miles 2.17

Clearly, there are significant differences in tracking between the two trackers. I remember that it took some time for me to initially get my Spark Activity Tracker calibrated too. So, part of the difference could be attributed to a need to calibrate the fitbit. I'll see what I can find about calibrating it

Someone asked about the alarm. The alarm for waking is a vibration. It is quiet. I do not think that it would wake another. My concern is that I'd sleep right through it. The good thing is that it went off again 10 minutes later. Not sure if it always does that or it vibrated again because I wasn't moving around at the time and wanted to make sure that I was up and about my business.

I was already up this morning before the alarm went off which is my tendency. I set alarms as backup; but, typically wake before they go off and I get up and turn it off so I don't wake my hubby who doesn't need to wake as early as I do for work. So, I had no trouble recognizing what was going on this morning.

I've never used anything that tracks sleep before. This fitbit tracks sleep. It's really interesting. I'm happy to see that I am sleeping as well as I thought.

Thanks Jeanknee, I have used the SP BMR calculator but it gives a higher calorie count then I know I can eat and remain on track. We defiantly need to stick together if at all possible. Have a great week end.

Midday report ... Sunday, January 14 @ 12:52 pm PST

Spark Activity Tracker
Steps 1044
Total Calories 28 (workout calories 0)
Total Minutes 17 (workout minutes 0)
Distance 0.54 miles

Fitbit Flex 2
Steps 1560
Calories 753
Minutes 0 minutes
Distance 0.71 miles

As other friends have shared with me, the fitbit *appears* to overestimate step counts relative to the Spark Activity Tracker and WAY OVER ESTIMATES calorie burn.

I suspect the issue with the calorie burn and minutes data is that the fitbit and the Spark Activity Tracker do not calculate calorie burn and minutes in the same manner. It appears to me that the calorie burn data for the fitbit includes BMR. Our Spark Activity Trackers make the distinction between calorie burn for activity minutes vs fitness minutes and do not include BMR.

If the BMR is indeed being included in the calorie burn data for the fitbit flex 2 this amounts to a significant difference in calorie burn for the fitbit vs the Spark Activity Tracker. My BMR based on this morning's weigh-in is 1,199 calories. That means that I can expect the fitbit's calorie calculation to be at least 1,199 calories higher in comparison to the Spark Activity Tracker. Good to know!

It's still too early for me to distinguish what the fitbit is doing as far as minutes calculations go because I've not completed a *true* workout yet. I do intend to take an extended walk later today. So, that will give me more data for comparison.

I hope everyone is enjoying their day. Best wishes to all of you as you transition from one tracker to another (or not).

If you don't know your BMR you can determine it by either using this quick calculator ...
www.calculator.net/bmr-calcul
ator.html

NOTE: The Spark Reports - Calorie Differential Over Time and Daily Calorie Differential - include a BMR. However, Spark's BMR calculation is oftentimes higher than our baseline BMR based on multiplication factors used associated with our level of activity (sedentary, lightly active, moderately active, etc.) and whether or not our Nutrition Trackers and Fitness Trackers are set to communicate with each other.

So, if you want to be certain that the BMR you're looking at is your baseline BMR, use the link to the calculator that I shared above.
