I found that clipping it onto the shoe/foot area gives the best/accurate reading. If it is too much on the centerline of the body, it won't always read the movement. I used to clip it on my shoestrings, but it was a hassle when changing shoes or taking them off in the house. So I started wearing it clipped inward on my sock. But if I take my socks off and go to sandals, I will usually wear it clipped inward on my short's pocket. Due to some close calls to losing it, I affixed a safety lanyard into the top of the clip to go around my ankle. Now I don't worry so much that I may cross my legs or something and pop it off my socks. I am also looking into some kind of velcro strap or something like that to wear around my ankle along with the safety lanyard for those times I'm not wearing socks. This is a repeat of post I put in another thread, but since it seems this is a rather common topic, I thought I'd cut and paste to possibly help those with these two issues. This may not help if the clip breaks off completely, but it might save the loss of the SPAT if the break isn't a complete break.

I question, therefore I think; I think, therefore I am; ........ I think?

Most of the time I wear it on my tennis shoe laces. Towards evening I switch to my house slippers that are slip-ons. I attach a safety pin & then slide it on the safety pin. Works great!

I'll have to devise an ankle pocket as I am not having success on the waist. Have 1/2 to 2/3 the steps with SAT than my regular pedometer.

That is disappointing.

I started with it on shoe lace, and it records very well there. I find that when I experiment with it on bra, it does not seem to record accurately. I haven't tried it on the waist yet. I think I will get a hair clip and a little container to put it in that is on that hair clip and try it on for water aerobics, though I am afraid of getting it wet. I have noticeably upped my neat and my steps d/t wearing it, emoticon

The velcro strap is a great idea EBUNNY21. I have a Leslie Sansone walking DVD that I like to do but with my carpet I can't wear shoes. I was trying to figure out the best way to record the steps while not moving forward. I'll try the strap. Thanks!

I am a SP newbie but clipping it to my sock or laces seems the way to go, so far, at least during exercise. When I am out and about, I clip it to my bra.

For the rowing machine, I would likely attach it to my arm or wrist.

Just my 2 cents!

I just got my tracker in the mail yesterday (YAY) and will start by wearing it on my shoe. I am very thankful that it was hard to get on, in thinking that means it will be hard for it to come off on its own. emoticon

Has anyone tried using the tracker on a stationary rowing machine? With the fall weather coming on I have been thinking of rowing, but I am not sure how well the tracker will record it.
Btw, when I use the elliptical or the treadmill or walk out of doors I clip the tracker to my laces. The rest of the day it is usually on my waistband. Compared to past measurements with other devices and runkeeper (on my phone) it seems pretty accurate.

I see some talk here about the clip being hard to use...

I find that if you just open the clip slightly at the end till it is over the waist band...or shoe lace ( I clip it over two laces where they meet at the cross over ) ~~~then just push the clip downwards ( for waistband ) or forwards for the shoe lace.
I do not find you need try to open it completely.

I am on my way to swimming today...Spark people had a suggestion that I clip the SAT onto an elastic band on my wrist for swimmimng...going to try that.

TY TallyGirl5. As I was filling out the return on Amazon I received an email from SP. Here is what I wrote in other posts about the email.

Kudos to SparkPeople Support. I sent them an email describing my problem with the SAT. I told them that I did not buy the device directly from them. Within 3.5 hours of sending my email I received and email back requesting my shipping address so that they could send me a replacement clip! I am impressed. Under the terms of their warranty they did not have do that. I bought my SAT from Amazon. Did not realize I could buy direct from SP. Once again kudos to SP. This kind of response and offer of assistance inspires customer loyalty. emoticon

Amazon does have a return policy. Recommend you log into your account, pull up the order and request a return mailing label. I had no trouble getting one for a watch that I did not like.

I do understand your disappointment! The clip is very stiff, even though it looks as though it has a hinge that should open wide and then snap shut. Clearly it doesn't! I often struggle a bit to get it open far just far enough to clip onto my waistband.

Have you contacted the team leaders or other SPAT technical staff to see if perhaps SparkPeople has a guarantee even though you purchased their product from Amazon?

My SPAT just broke. The clip attached to my sneaker laces snapped! I have only had the SPAT for 2.5 days. It also appears that since I bought it from Amazon and not directly from Spark that I cannot return it to Spark. Be careful about the clip. So disappointed. Was so excited to get it and use it.

Thanks for the suggestion of the tether. When I checked Amazon I noticed there was also a shoe pouch for about ten dollars made for another brand of pedometer (and ipod) that you attach to your shoelaces for security. Wondering if this would work with ours?

If you search for "pedometer tether" or "safety leash for pedometers" on Amazon several choices pop up. A single tether is $2.25 but you can buy them in sets. I loop mine around the base of the clip and it works fine.

I'm wearing it on my laces. First official day and had to laugh because when I was in the waiting room at the doctor someone asked me what it was. I managed to get a SparkPeople plug in:) I plan on wearing it throughout the day and using the HRM to track main workouts that I post in a spreadsheet. Funny thing is that I am reminded of a FlyLady saying about immediately lacing up your shoes when you get out of bed. Now I want to in order to get my steps counted. Goodbye bare feet:(

I bought a third party tether because I lost a Fitbit and want to make sure the SAT doesn't meet the same fate. Both clips work on my bra or my waistband, and I think it's been fairly accurate. A brisk 50 minute walk records just under 6,000 steps.

I just got my SAT yesterday afternoon. I initially wore it on my right foot. Put it through a few laces and tied my shoe tight. It stayed. As I was driving I wondered if it would be counting the number of times I moved from the gas pedal to step on the break pedal. I also have a habit of shaking my right leg. I moved it to my left shoe. I have worn it all day today. Unfortunately, the doggle is so small and easy to misplace I decided to leave it at home so I do not know how well SPAT is tracking so far today. I did have some trouble yesterday "waking" it up. When I did get it to wake up it put up some reasonable numbers. It did not upload every time I was near the computer though.

For now I am content to take the numbers it gives me. Whether they be accurate or not. The point of wearing it is to remind me that I must do more walking and working out. As long as it keeps doing that and putting up some numbers I will be content. For now.

I do wish they would make a SPAT that you could wear on a chain around your neck. The last device I used from WW had that capability. Hoping it does not dislodge from my shoe.

It is like anything else in life, it takes a little adjustment and time to get used to new things.

Hi Everyone! I wore mine on my bra yesterday and it only tracked 1500 steps after a busy 12hour shift! ! Today I have it on my shoe and it tracked 1600 after only 3hours. I feel yesterday was a waste! I'll keep in on my shoe or sock now.

I've been wearing mine on my waistband or the front hip pocket to see how it tracks from my OMRON pedometer since its so much smaller. Not quite sure its picking every step up this way but giving it a good try. A little frightened to wear it on my shoe, though I just tried it while doing my elliptical 15 min. workout and it did not pick it up for the entire workout time and did not recognize it as an elliptical workout. Any ideas?

I'm in favor of wearing my device in one place so I remember it is there and remember to take it off (avoiding the laundry cycle) and also to use it. Have tried other pedometers in other places and have never been impressed. Originally pedometers were designed to sit at the waist over the knee in a vertical position. When in that place, traditional pedometers work best. This one seems to miss a lot of steps in that position.

I wear it on the top of my socks while in the house and on my shoe on the flat, top part while outside. Seems to work great so far. I just received it so I haven't got to use it on a typical workout day yet. My weekends are my rest and home activity days so when I go to school tomorrow and when I work out, it should give me different data.

When I wear my running shoes I clip it in the front in the flattest place. When I wear a pair of sandles or thong type shoes it works real well up in front in the flattest place also. I don't know about dress shoes or boots but, then it may have to go on my waist.

The first day I clipped it to my shoe, flat as shown, for my elliptical workout and it did not track the activity at all. Since then I've clipped to my waistband and it does a great job! Besides, I don't wear shoes when I am in the house. If it is on my waistband, I don't have to move it unless I change clothes.

I move it around depending on what I am wearing. The tip of my skirt or shorts when I am wearing a fli-flop or inside my pocket when I am in a crowded environment. Mostly on my sneaker's shoelace.

I can do thisl!!

I just got my tracker. I wore it laced into my shoes and it worked great. need to figure out a good place to wear it when I'm not wearing sneakers.

I've lost pedometers in the past. I've also had several that would have been "flushed" if I hadn't had a leash. I figured out a way to put a leash on the thing. I am wearing it on my waistband as I usually get the best steps with my other pedometer there. I will compare and decide if I want to continue.

I do know "regular pedometers" don't pick up elliptical or biking movements, so I'll have to consider moving it then.

You must have a bad device. I'd write to SP_COACH_DENISE who seems to be the moderator for this team, and ask if you can exchange it for a new one.

Today was not any better. Out the door by 7:30a, home at 7:30p. Combo of walking/sitting ...
Wore it again on my sneakers. Return home to see less than 500 steps! Not a happy camper! Feel like I've wasted the day!

Most of the time I wear it on my shoe and it works well there for me . . . .I have wore it on my hip a few times also and no problem there either.

Did you try calibrating your SPAT? Use your Fitbit or GPS tracking device and calibrate the SPAT to that. Here's the link to calibrate --

Yesterday wore SPAT and fitbit Zip on my shoe ... still a 3k difference in step count. But I now understand the 10 minutes of continuous activity.

Today, I am wearing the SPAT on my shoe and the Zip on my hip!

I wore it on my bra yesterday and it didn't track but a few steps the whole time it was on my bra. I probably walked at least 2,000 steps and it tracked only a hundred or so. So I won't wear it on my bra again. I tried it on my shoe at the gym and really liked it there but most of the time I will wear it on my hip since I don't wear lace up shoes at work.

Depending on the activity I'm doing, depicts where I will wear my SPAT. Lower body workouts [walking, running, dancing] I wear it on my shoe or velcro strap I made for my ankle if I can't wear it on my dancing shoes.
Upper body workouts [weight training, kayaking] I wear it on my bra or on a velcro strap I made for my wrist.
I LOVE my SPAT it keeps me motivated and encourages me to push harder to beat my previous goals.

I've always worn my fitbit zip on my hip and its picked up a majority of my steps. I did attempt a few times to wear it on my shoe, but I found that due to my tapping while sitting, it was picking the tapping up as steps and inflating my numbers, almost tripling them. I will try the SPAT on my shoe tomorrow since its still off by over 2k steps compared to my fitbit zip. Don't know if I can stop tapping (mindless tapping) while sitting at my desk. lol

I wear it on my shoe laces like pictured. Of course if I am ready for bed I wear it on my waistband near my hip as suggested.

Depending on the activity...depicts where I will wear my Spark Activity Tracker.
Examples: lower body workouts like running, walking or bicycling it goes on my shoe. For upper body workouts like kayaking or weight training I wear it on my wrist using a velcro strap. I'm a dancer as well and found that clipping it to my bra works great...I want credit for every movement.

I got mine Friday (late) and wore it on my shoe Saturday. We went to Stone Mountain in Georgia and I did a lot of walking (and hiking). I dressed in church clothes today and wore it on my bra. I am surprised by how few steps in tracked. I'm going to try checking to see if it makes a difference where I wear it.
The only feature I don't like is not being able to check how many steps I have at any given point during the day.

Mine's on the shoe. I kind of like it there, since I always wear laces on my shoes. I tried it on a bra for a bit, but I forgot it was there and fortunately remembered after I'd already tossed the bra in the hamper! emoticon

I am wearing mine on my shoe. Right now I have on flip flops, but I wore it yesterday on some leather slides.

On Thursday, I clipped it on my pocket. Interestingly enough, I clipped my fitbit zip to my other pocket. I lost the fitbit. I was wearing both just as a comparison. I'm glad I didn't lose the spark tracker since I've just had it a few days.

I have used the Bodymedia for almost 3 years and that was easy since I just wore/wear the armband except when I take a shower.

With the Spark tracker, for the first time ever, I'm wearing shoes in the house. But I really should have been all along since I have to wear special orthodics to correct a lot of problems I have and wearing them in shoes, while in the house, would have been better for me all this time. So I've given up my "barefoot in the house" ways by getting some houseshoes. This way I can wear my orthotics and I keep my tracker clipped to the top of my shoes. When I bike or hike, I move my tracker to those shoes but otherwise I keep the tracker on my house shoes.

For me it's getting two things accomplished. By wearing shoes in the house, I'm wearing my orthodics. I can really tell the difference in how much better my legs and feet feel by wearing my orthodics all the time (I've had a knee surgery and two foot surgeries in two years so my orthodics are part of keeping my body healthy). And now, I put the shoes on as soon as I get up and take them off when I go to bed so I'm getting all my steps tracked.

If I wore my tracker on my bra or pants, I know I'd lose it. I try to keep my lip balm in my bra while I'm out with my horses and other animals and I find it laying in the manure all the time. emoticon That's why I never tried the fitbit in the past. So far my house shoe method is working well. emoticon

Hi
I just got my tracker today its Saturday and I am not doing much of anything, because I did a biking event yesterday for Charity 65 miles woot woot. would of been 100 but had foot problem boy wish I had this tracker yesterday that would of been great..

So I know they say the best place to wear it is your shoes.. well I don't wear them in the house and I am doing a lot of walking around so will it track if I wear it on my bra? I have lost so many pedometers in the past when I clip it to my jeans so question is that a ok place to clip it when I am not working out?

Thanks good luck everyone lets work hard

Anita
