Happy New Year, fabulous darlings!

Survived the holidays. It helps to travel right before and leave again on Boxing Day. Tonight, we're headed to a burlesque show in London with some frivolous after-partying. And then some chill time before I head back to Canada on the 7th. I miss my brother and friends there and I'm ready to have 100% control over my food again. Starting the year with a food reboot by taking the Engine 2 28-Day Challenge. Last time I did it, I felt incredible and can only recommend it.

It's a lot easier than it sounds and if anyone is interested or has any questions about eating vegan/plantstrong, shoot me a message :D

A new year and allowing myself to start in the black. I weigh-in on Weds. eves, usually, but my Tops group decided that this week, and last, we wouldn't weigh. So I am weighing on the 8th and am a little nervous: today at the Dr. I was up 2# since the day of our last weigh. I have the skills, knowledge and ability to lose those pounds and start the new year with a great number...well maybe not totally in the black~I know anyway...

Wishing you all a peaceful, peace filled and amazing New Year celebration of whatever sort you do!

Yes, Gas grill are great for when no other form of cooking is possible, but please everyone, DO NOT USE THEM INDOORS WITHOUT PROPER VENTILIATION. I think everyone, or at least most of the ones who have posted recently, need to get back on track with the new year. I know that I do.

Sorry I haven't been on here much lately. Been two weeks with this darn flu and 4+ months with these darn headaches!!! But, it's now time to get started back on a regular routine again with some light exercising daily and then, hopefully if this weather starts warming up and drying up, I can start walking with my DH and our two pooches again. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and are keeping warm!!! For those people who don't have electricity, I pray they get it fixed real soon. Gas grills are really great to have on hand for when that electricity does go out you can still fix some meals on the grill at least.

Hi Laperle, I feared they might have a pump. A few years ago we went through 5 days with no power. We also have a gas stove and so were able to prepare food and coffee, and take showers. I truly hope their power returns soon.

Baccagirl, good for you for having such a nice visit.

Happy Sparking everyone!

Well gals, my Christmas spent with my brother and family was truly blessed! I didn't put my foot in my mouth more than once! Food situation was a little scary, but easy enough to control. Today was spent being hyper vigilant of what went passed my lips, though!
LAPERLE, I feel fortunate to not be in the same situation that your family is suffering in! Don't know how well I would deal and I'm much older than your 10yo grandson!

Yes BLUBIRDY00, They do have a generator, but the last I heard this morning it had stopped working for some reason. My SIL was trying to get it restarted. They do have a gas kitchen stove so have been able to prepare hot meals, but have had to melt snow for some of their water needs since their water supply has an electric pump. They certainly will be most grateful when their power is restored, and I am sure my 10 year old grandson will have a greater understanding of what life is like before the modern conveniences.

Wow Laperle, so sorry that your family has been so impacted by the storm. Do they have a generator? I hope they are cozy and warm in their home and have enough food, water, etc.

Baccagirl, I'm near the berkshires in Western MA!

I hope that everyone else is healthy and well. Safe travels if you are on the move.

Our Christmas celebration is still on hold since our daughter and her family are still without power, and cannot make the trip until their house and the house next door are back on the grid. We will have a great celebration whenever it is possible for them to come. Hope everyone had a great day yesterday whether celebrating or not.

Wishing you all a great day and a Happy Boxing Day filled with God's Blessings...I am back home after being away at my daughter's Christmas Day. It is a family tradition for us all to gather at my daughter and her family for the day. I begin my day with Bible reading and spending time with Jesus, then after I open my gifts from friend's, I finish off the touches of wrapping family gifts them my son-in-law picks me up to spend the day with family...We open our gifts and share a scrumptious turkey dinner with family. We then open our gifts to each other and snap some photo's of our day...All in all a beautiful day! emoticon

Sounds like the coast was hit badly by that nasty ice storm! Here, in the Berkshires, not icy and stormy at all! Prayers for everyone hit by that storm! Wanting to wish everyone a very merry, happy and jolly Christmas on this eve of Hope and Joy! Spending the day tomorrow at my Brothers, in Dracut and am looking forward to spending time with both niece and nephew! Will be making much different food choices than I have been this past week: if I want to lose the junk is going away!

Due to the ice storm our Christmas celebration with our daughter and her family has been delayed from today until the day after Christmas. We still have our power, etc., but because she live an hour and a half away closer to the coast where the coating of ice was heavier, they have no power and their road is blocked by trees down over power lines. I certainly would rather they stay safe, and as warm as possible with a generator they can use occasionally to keep the house above freezing. We will celebrate later, that is all!

Back from my 8 day train trip. Tons of hiking/walking with a 35+ pound backpack. However also quite a few bad food choices have been made (trying Haggis was not one of them; that stuff i delicious and low in fat), so I figure my weightloss will be stagnant this week and I probably gained a couple of pounds just from swelling. My feet are twice their size!

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a lovely Sunday! I'm having a nice day with my kids, cookies, gingerbread house, etc. It was nearly 60 degrees here today, was able to open windows all over the house and air out the cold germs. The snow is melting too! Yay!

Hi everyone! I've been away from SparkPeople for a few days due to being sick. I missed 5 days of working out, Uggh! I eased back into working out today weigh WATP and some strength training. It's amazing how fast I stiffened up after only 5 days. I'm very happy to be back to work out and eating my freggie's.

I wish you all a blessed Christmas and hope that your Christmas preparations are going well and that you enjoy your friends and families.

Don't like the weather forecast for the next day or two, but we have to take the bad with the good. We are so much better off than some, since we have a wood cookstove and a wood furnace which does not depend on electricity to run and heat the house should be loose power. Hope everyone stays safe and warm.

I'm glad I'm not living in the plains anymore or on the east coast. It's 84 down here in the Rio Grande Valley but we have wind today. Suppose to be the same tomorrow. BUT, I can handle it and at least it's not snow or sleet!!

Hope everyone's keeping themselves warm, safe, and healthy! Keep on sparking!!

Only a couple of weeks until the new year and I decided to get a jump start on 2014 weight loss. I was finding myself beginning to slide into the bad old habit of hitting the snooze button too many times before getting up to exercise a signal to me that my interest was waning, so I decided to Challenge myself to do more reps, burn more calories, add more core exercises, and move instead of standing to rev up my weight loss. So today I changed from a green resistance band to a red one at Silver Sneakers and peddled faster on my stationary bike to expend 145 calories instead of 142 calories in 30 mins. To some this may seem like nothing, but to me it is a big deal because I have to keep exercise interesting. What are some things you do to Challenge your self?

How others see you isn't important, but how you see yourself is everything.

LAPERLE - I am with you. My scale went up 3lbs in a week. I am told its probably mostly water retention due to salt. perhaps that is you too. Just keep working hard and don't let it get you down.

Cheering everyone on the finish the year strong. I did weigh myself this morning, and although not happy with the reading which was up, it was not up as high as I feared. Will hope to get through the rest of the year where I am, and then start a more regimented attack in the new year.

Hello All,
I wish everyone's having sunny days both literally and figuratively and enjoying it. :)
It's officially one week left till Christmas. If any of you is doing something out of the ordinary I'd please like to hear it. Some interesting vacation perhaps? A good deed? A "miracle"(eg happy occassion) testimony?
I wish you all a good time and jolly last days weeks of the year!
Love,
Joanna

I may not be happy when I go outside when it is extremely cold, but I still love looking at the beautiful pristine snow after a storm. I don't like really hot weather so I will take cold over extremely hot. Of course, my ideal would be to live where it is between 75 and 80 degrees F year round--I can dream can't I.

After being raised in Muskegon, MI all my life and then in 1998 moving to Carrington, ND I know what the cold (-95 degree wind chill and -50 regular F temperatures in N. Dakota and lots and lots of wet heavy snow in Michigan). That, my dear fellow Sparkers, is why I moved to deep S. TX in 2004. Had enough of the cold and snow to last me a lifetime. Now, when it even begins to drop into the upper 70's we get out our long pants, sweatshirts, jackets etc on.

Ah, BLUBIRDY00, we must be in the same part of the country or at least similar weather areas. We had -15 degrees or lower this morning. (That is 15 degrees below zero for those who live in warm climates) BRRRR! I put the dog's sweater on her before I took her out this morning, and she had no objections. We also are expecting more snow tonight so hopefully it will be warming up. Plenty of exercise just carrying firewood to keep warm and shoveling the snow.

Really cold here today, in the teens, 2degrees tonight. 3-5 inches of snow coming to us tomorrow. I'm really getting into the Vhristmas spirit. Still working out each day, between the cold weather and the exercise I have been pretty hungry.

Well, everyone, it was a chilly day here for the day after about a foot of snow settled. I'm new to this team and appreciate all of your comments early in the day: I have come to bid you all a safe, healthy and pleasant night. I did not get in any exercise, unless the 4 minutes that I walked the dog, count...tomorrow? I get in at least 10 minutes!

Not a lot of snow here, but very cold and the roads are icy. Staying in this morning doing usual Monday chores. May venture out later this afternoon if the roads clear up. Have a good day everyone and stay warm.

Well, I was not wrong in my estimate of the amount of snow yesterday. This morning's paper that the area got up to a foot of snow before it finally ended. It continues to be cold here so I will probably try to get indoor "stuff" done today unless I dig out the wood pile and bring a few more armfuls to thaw out. At least that would be exercise. Have a good week everyone!

Shoveled out today, only about 6 inches or so here, went Christmas shopping, worked out, and did the Sunday night "get ready for the new week" typical acitivities. Have a wonderful week everyone!

Snowy and cold here in WV today. After church I managed to get some Christmas shopping finished. Not a lot of snow, but as my husband says just enough to be an irritation.

Yes, we got the snowstorm and there is at least 10 inches of it. Fortunately, it is so cold here (I have had below zero temperatures a couple of mornings when I got up) that the snow is the light, fluffy kind and not the heavy wet stuff that is so hard to shovel.

Yes 70 and that's still cold for down here. Our average for this time of year is 76. When it hits 80 we start thinking long pans, sweatshirts, jackets etc. I've even been wearing gloves down here already!!!

Wow, we only made it to 39 degrees where I'm at in SW Ohio. We also have rain and snow moving in for Saturday. I wish we'd get a ton of snow, but I know that we won't. Must be the Michigan kid coming out of me.

70 degrees JudsterF?! emoticon I am SO jealous! I would like to live in a place where I can be active outdoors all year round.

We are getting a snow storm tomorrow into Sunday. Perhaps it's going over us and moving onto Laperle? We are forecast to get 8-10 inches.

Today will probably be the last day I am online on SP until after my trip. I'm spending 8 days on trains across the UK and a ferry to Ireland starting on Saturday. I'm excited beyond measure! So, I will see you all after December 21st!

Didn't catch the segment of The Doctors mentioned, but I have always been skeptical of food additives. I try to prepare most of my food "from scratch" and use as few box mixes, etc. as possible. Also, try to grow many fresh vegetables during the summer months without using pesticides. At least it is a step in the right direction.

BLUBIRDY, I'm really into food systems and all the things that are wrong with an industrial food system, so I'll be checking it out for sure! Of all the things to worry about, I think the food we put in ourselves should be near the top. It is really eye-opening seeing what is allowed to go in with what we eat.

It looks like many of us are hustling and bustling our way into the holidays amidst snow. We have had light snow so far, perhaps a storm this weekend.

I am watching The Doctors. If anyone has the ability to watch this episode about additives and chemicals in food it's really worth watching. Many of the chemicals are cleared by the FDA but still have very negative side effects. Try catching it on on-demand or streaming.

They also found DDE (DDT) in conventional grocery store meat. DDT/DDE is a known carcinogen.

Just some food for thought if your interested in that type of stuff. I know we can't worry about everything.

Happy Wednesday. Ate lunch out today had a cup of baked potato soup and field greens salad with vinaigrette on the side and it was delicious. I am slowing realizing that the food is not the highlight of the meal it is the conversation. I wish I had understood that 30 years ago, but now that I do I know I can lose the weight and keep it in check. Thanks SparkPeople for your support.

Just thought I'd stop in and check on everyone. Looks like everyone's been busy not only shopping and getting ready for Christmas but in changing their lives and eating habits besides! Let's keep up the good work.

Let's not forget the real reason for the Season - that of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ!!! Let's keep Him in the center of all we do.

Pray everyone has a good and healthy Christmas Season!!
