Down .6# since Saturday. I am wondering if the new blueberry jelly or the new almond butter might be a touch reactive. Otherwise I am still rotating my friendly menus. My swimsuit is way too big and my daughter who hasn't seen me since Easter said that I look much smaller. I think that my torso and legs are tightening because of some new muscle build up.

Not to get too graphic, but I want to mention that if my sister-in-law had done a better job of building up her arm muscles, the physical therapists would have had some muscle to reactivate. But they said they can't create NEW muscles, they can only reactivate what was there beforehand. That spurs me on to keep working the hand and arm exercises.

But she is starting to swallow a little apple sauce so there's hope that the feeding tube might be someday removed and she will be able to chew again.

Have a good day!

Well, we had the family meeting with the rehab therapists and have a better understanding of the extent of my sister in laws disability. The last few days there have been many gatherings among family members trying to work out how we are going to shut down her office, sell the car, etc, etc. But I have tried to be careful about my menus and seem to have gained a pound.
I think it was the handful of potato chips that seemed to be calling out to me yesterday.

Oh, well. Time to refocus. Keeping on...

Must have eaten something unfriendly because I went up 1# overnight. Might have been a second portion of that Bavarian pretzel with butter and pesto sauce this time. I think I'll slow down on the pretzels. Might have been too many breads as I also tried a new pumpernickel slice later in the day.

But I was able to get to the YMCA today as they have free childcare for up to 2 hours a day. My routine in the water, 15-min sauna and shower takes less than an hour, though.

My visit to Ann didn't go right yesterday. She was in the workout center with one of her therapists and I didn't want to interrupt so the baby and I just said Hi and left. Both Ann and the baby are named after Ann's mother "Annabel". But the baby goes by her second name "Wren". Ann's eyes get very wide and happy when I explain the connection to others at the rehab. So I guess the visit was worthwhile.

Thx Javaflower.

Here's what LG wrote on her FB page 2 days ago...

This is one of the most important concepts of #ThePlan. There's nothing wrong with you when you gain weight, in fact that's your body saying "I love you, PLEASE don't eat this. It's bad for us".

Aldi's is selling homemade bavarian prezels. I thought I might get away with one if I didn't sprinkle the salt on. And I still lost .4#! So I think I'll put some in the freezer for an occasional treat!

Looks like I really do need more than 24 hours to finish processing my food. I lost 2# overnight after a stall yesterday.

The grandbaby is a treasure but she sure does wear me out. I was relieved when she finished her last bottle/sippy cup, brushed her teeth and I put her to bed at 7:15 tonight. Now I need to recover before 6am tomorrow! But I do know these moments are precious.

She has also put a certain sparkle in Ann's eyes at the rehab, too.

Perhaps during the toasting, the milky residue is washed out of the buckwheat.

Congrats on the beef/pork and tomato paste.

We've got the granddaughter for the week and she has a new bad habit of waking early. This morning it was 4:30 but I held her off until 5:30 then just let her play in the safe nursery we've set up while I rested on the day bed nearby. When I took her in the stroller around 10am for a walk, she fell asleep. Her rhythm is all mixed up and I have to try to get her plenty tired by tonight to get her back on schedule.

The daily visits to my sister in law are getting harder to work in but I think that these first 3-4 weeks are crucial to get her recovery started.

Had another stall from yesterday but it might be the lack of water. I'm going to have leftover pork and kale tonight.

Keeping on...

hmmmm - my understanding is that buckwheat is naturally gluten-free, though gluten is not something I have to worry about at this point.

as for me:
my scale was down 0.6 this morning after having the stuffing of a stuffed pepper with dinner last night. (ground beef/pork mix, rice, tomato sauce -yay!) That is a pleasant surprise!

Weekends can be tricky, long weekends even trickier...as we often end up out & about and sometimes follow the siren call of something iffy.....
but I am going to give it my best, and release the rest!!!

If we stay close to home today, I have a solid friendly food day planned!

here we go!!!

I have lost 1.5# over the past 2 days and think I have found a good smoothie recipe that I have mid-morning. one Kiwi, 1/2c prune juice and a scoop of a protein powder from Costco with just fruits and veggies It tastes ok but the protein really give me a boost and the prune juice seems to be speeding my digestion.

Yeah, I get buckwheat grouts (kernels) from an asian store and the bag instructs me to rinse them a few times. There is quite a bit of milky gluten that needs to be washed off. I use it now a couple times a week as a thickener in some of my dishes. For example it is good with kale with browned onion and garlic.

awfully quiet in here lately....

so, I tried the buckwheat burgers this week and they appear to be friendly - but, boy, that recipe from Food 52 that LG shared on FB was not complete until you read responses in the comments - ex. the ingredient list says buckwheat, but you only find out by reading the comments that the author intended toasted buckwheat. -and I found the instruction steps a bit confusing.
They turned out edible - lol - but Hubby didn't care for them much.
I will probably try them again sometime OR something like them.

This morning, I stayed the same on the scale, too much salt is most surely the culprit.
I am making stuffed peppers and will test the stuffing part of one at dinner, I think.

The long weekend without definite plans and probable Hubby sabotage may be tricky,
but...

onward!!!!!

I know what you mean about testing getting iffy. Sometimes I forget whether something was reactive or not and mindlessly eat it before checking. But I did manage to lose since yesterday with a stall the day before. I think my body takes more than 24 hours to digest.

I got a hold of a book called CLEAN and I like the way the dr thoroughly describes digestion. His program is similar to LG's but calls for 1 hot meal and two smoothies a day. Since the smoothies digest faster, the weight comes off faster.I know LG says that smoothies are hard to deal with long term but I think I might try this for a week and see if it helps. He also thinks we should have more raw foods. I eat two salads a day with about 8 raw veggies and a lemon vinaigrette, so I think I'm getting plenty of raw in my diet. Another fascinating point is he mentioned was that when we swim or shower, we are hydrating our skin so I think that some of my water walking is doing good in that way, too.

Monday! whew

I am starting the week with a 0.8 up,
most likely from a combo of extreme sport wall washing
and a few foods that could have been an issue, though it might be more about combos than the foods themselves.

the further one gets from a cleanse, the more iffy new testing seems to be, imho.
I'm heading for an autumn cleanse, soon I think, one last one before the new 'Metabolism Plan' comes out!

Javaflower, I have been tempted by things like poptarts, too. I don't think we should beat ourselves up about it, though. The trend is still downward and over time we will win this war!

I have sort of gotten unfocused and haven't kept up with my water drinking over the last few days. That could explain why I gained 1# two days ago and then lost it again this morning. My clothes feel lose and I am doing a lot more walking than usual so I just need to get more focused.

hi TPers!

I was down the 0.2 that I was up yesterday - tried a new wine and had a (insert embarrassed face!) poptart (and it wasn't even tasty! argh)

supplements can have side effects:
I have been trying a low dose of SAM-e to see if it would be helpful with my stress/anxiety levels of late. The first few days I felt more aggressive!!!, but that seems to have leveled out. It has been a week and a half or so now, and I think the SAM-e might be causing some constipation.
(and that is listed as a possible side effect on a reputable site.) So, I'll have to think about this a bit more.

hope your weekend is TP Friendly!

My sister in law started her rehab therapies yesterday and I sat in to see what I can do with her one-on-one. I'm going to get a picture dictionary and try to get her to at least mouth some words. I have great hopes that she will start to make some good progress but it will probably take months.

I lost 1.2# overnight which I am sure some of it was the late water from the day before.
But it is a good win because I tried the buckwheat burgers that LG recommended yesterday on her FB page. I just ate 2 of them but my husband gobbled down 4 of them. Still they are pretty easy and a good source of protein for me.

I stayed the same this morning but think it was the late water intake that caused it. Today I am going to Walmart to get pacific cod. I looked for it at whole foods and was surprized they don't have it. They do have pre-squeezed 100% lemon juice which I need a lot of because Of my 2 fresh salads every day and drinking the lemon water first thing in the morning.

My YMCA is cleaning the pool area this week so I will probably use the outdoor pool which of course is full of kids having lots of fun. Perhaps I should just use my at home exercise videos.

I am also slipping up somewhere and gained .5# from yesterday.

My bathing suit has either stretched or I am tightening up quite a bit. In any case, time to buy a new one!

Boy, am I learning a ton about how Medicare deals with stroke victims. I didn't know about the acute 21 day program which puts the rehabs, Drs and Physical Therapists under tremendous stress to make progress very quickly. My sister-in-law has been rejected by a bunch because they didn't think she would make the progress fast enough. So she has to go to a less rigorous (and probably inferior) rehab facility. The medical transport for ~8 hours will probably be on Monday.

Ground lamb on the menu today. So I am trying to be careful to stick to known friendlies today.

Enjoy the weekend!

YaY Patricia!

I struggle with getting as much protein as recommended on TP for breakfast and lunch, doing better when I have leftover kale or broccoli to add to my lunch. I eat a lot of nuts and seeds, too.
Even when I was following the book menus to to a T, my amounts didn't match what she said we would consume in the early days' menus.

always reassessing... yep, yep

my soups don't have much broth in them so I guess they are more like a thick stew.

Yesterday was my pacific cod rotation with lots of steamed/roasted onions, carrots, zucchini.
I lost 1.2#. and I felt full and it was very tasty.

I asked LG on FB about having chicken in my salad for lunch and then roasted chicken at dinner and she pointed out that it is a test on day 16 in the book.

I am trying to add some protein to lunch to get the recommended 15grams.

thanks Patricia! I'm sure going to try to keep it going!
When you lose with soup for dinner, you're doing good! TP suggests not having soup for dinner since you add more liquid later in the day that has to get processed by morning weigh-in.
YOU are doing great!
I have a family history for stroke on one side and Hubby's family has a strong family history of Alzheimer's on both sides - if you look up foods suggested for their nutritional help for Alz/storke prevention - many of the foods in the first days of TP are in the lists: kale, broccoli, blueberries, nuts, olive oil, wine, -though there are others that may not test well for some on TP -and there are some foods on the lists to limit for optimal brain health - ..The Plan is about making it our own plan; I think about these food items for us!!!
and walking is a GREAT way to keep the blood flowing AND help sustain mobility as we age! I would love to get into a water aerobics class, but haven't found one locally that is reasonable in price, YET!

as for me today:
down another 1.2#
I stuck to yesterday's menu and had a poached egg on my kale at dinner -it was YuMMY and an egg is friendly for me, just not with bread...egg and bread at a meal doesn't seem to ever work out for me.
I'm going to my parent's to take them to a dr appt today - they live an hour away. Having my fruit and nuts for breakfast, packing a big salad and ryvita cracker for lunch, I'm not sure about dinner yet, but Dad mentioned he had some pork chops -(friendly for me!), so, we'll see!

On we go! -choose friendly!

JavaFlower, congrats on the reboot. Keep it going.

I lost .6 after a chicken soup with chicken, carrots, zucchini, garlic and then a kale salad.
For lunch I had a big mixed salad with avocado and then a new dark chocolate protein bar
that I discovered at the Penn State Univ hospital cafeteria.

Also, since my family has a history of Alzheimer's and the vision of my sister-in-law having her stroke last week is very fresh, I watched some videos yesterday on youtube about avoiding Alzheimer's and stroke. I am more convinced that I need to do more than just 15 minutes of active water exercises and am now doing 15 more minutes of walking in house. They say that an aerobic exercise will shoot more blood to the brain. My sister says it is also good to lay on the floor next to a wall and just hold your legs up straight for 5 minutes or so.

JOCASTA:
page 99 of TP, where it talks about coffee, LG suggests that half-and-half is a better option than milk for coffee, because the fat buffers the milk sugars...she goes on to say that heavy cream is even less reactive for most folks. Surely, some people must be unable to do dairy from cows regardless, though.

When I follow friendly TP menus more closely, my mood improves! If possible, noting mood changes would be part of your data, for sure! but that is not easy given life itself can affect moods, too!!!

Patricia:
were you able to carrot soup yesterday!? reboot or friendly day?

as for me:
I did not get new carrot soup made as I found I had one more 2c container of a savory version in the freezer. I pulled it out to thaw, but didn't choose to eat it yesterday, as I prefer a more cinnamon-y version cold! I will have the savory one today, though.

so - I did a strong day yesterday and am down 1.2# this morning.

I have another strong day planned for today, I just have to figure out a protein for dinner.
B: mixed fruit (fresh local peach, plum, raspberries, blueberries- YUM), pecans
L: salad w/ manchego, pumpkin seeds, craisins, carrot ginger soup w/ sunflower seeds
S: Ryvita w/ PB (yep, I can do peanut butter)
D: kale, broccoli, protein
(run to the meat market or have lentils?? or??? - hmmm, maybe an egg on the kale!!!)
Dove Darks and maybe a bit of red wine

Keep on keepin' on!!!!!

You guys are very motivating! Over the past week I have eaten and drunk quite a bit of "junk." I'm getting kind of tired of it, and plan on recouping by midweek, I think. I will be officially doing a full GF month and I will be cutting dairy as well. My first day off of TP I put milk in my coffee and got sick pretty quickly. Same thing the next day and by day 4 I had adjusted. I'm thinking I'm probably "inflamed" as a result of my body reacting to it, and probably doing a good job as I haven't gotten sick in a week. So, I'll cut it out and see how I feel. Coconut milk isn't my favorite, but it's certainly not the worst thing I've ever had.

I realized that TP was also playing on my mood in a bad way. It may have been all the gluten I was eating because I was never a huge bread person before. But, since bread was one of like 6 things I could eat on TP, I was eating it every day.

I'm also refusing to weigh myself right now. I'm working on accepting my body as it is, and going by how I feel. Right now I feel full. ;-)

Ok. I'm in.
I was thinking yesterday that the carrot ginger soup looks pretty good right now.

Are you thinking a full on reboot yet?

I've been thinking I might soon, though my body has not liked the flaxseed in quite a while and I have been looking for a run of days where I won't have big obstacles - the time just might be this week.
I've been increasing my focus the last couple of days with some good results..

off to walk!

We had to leave Ann in the Penn State Univ hospital and returned to NC. Her children are now tag-teaming to be by her side. It will be a few days before she can be transported back to NC.

It was a full blown stroke and the rehab will probably take months or a year. My husband and I don't regret giving her this trip for her 75th birthday and are very grateful it happened at breakfast and not while she was driving.

By the way, there is a christian musical center called "Sight and Sound" in Lancaster which puts on a pretty extravagant event. This summer it is about SAMPSON, last year it was NOAH and next year it will be JONAH.

My weight stayed the same during the 6 days away and I am ever more determined to follow TP as carefully as possible to get good results optimally.

Folks, this is very unusual of me but I am asking for prayer for my sister-in-law, Ann, who suffered a stroke yesterday morning at breakfast while here on vacation in Lancaster,PA. She was airlifted to Penn State Medical Center in Hershey and the special procedure to break up the clot was unsuccessful. I am praying for the clot to dissolve and a swift recovery. Whenever her children can start to arrive, my husband and I will drive the 8 hrs back home.

I have tried to be careful with my meals but of course it is not always possible. The shock of seeing the slurring of speech in mid-sentence has made me much more aware of how important it is for me to get his weight off. Thank goodness we were there when it happened.

I will let you know how this progresses.

Jocasta, on this trip I am using my iPad and you are right. The font is fine. Before I was using my windows based laptop.
I certainly understand your need to take a break from TP. Your Dr. Knows best. Hope the gluten test frees you from some of your symptoms.

I'm in Lancaster,PA for the next couple of days. The 8 hour car trip was not too bad as my sister in law has a very comfortable SUV. I'm sticking to salads with goat's cheese and chicken and keeping the water going. I brought Trader Joes almond butter for breakfast.
This evening we got some good water walking in the pool.

Keeping on...

Sonic, do you have any suggestions for me? Besides the obvious wheat products, which I have no problem cutting, I know that soy sauce and vinegar contain gluten. Is there anything else I should watch out for?

Thanks!

Jocasta: enjoy your week!
{hug}

Gaby: unless you are really close to goal, if you do not lose 0.4# it is considered a reaction,
and since you tested 2 foods, you need to test them out separately to know which one is the culprit. Take a friendly no-test day and move on - either with day 6 test or redo day 4 testing only one thing!
you're doing great!

PSmith: keep on keepin' on!

as for me: sigh - up this weekend from pasta - I can do pasta if I stick to a small serving in a friendly menu - BUT I didn't do that - oh well. And today, I answered the call of the fried clams, which I really like, and have proven reactive enough to keep me the same weight another day.

on we go!

Jocasta. Good luck with the gluten freedom. I gave it up a couple of years ago and got rid of joint pain and horrible canker sores in my mouth. Be careful tho cause it's not just wheat.....gluten lurks in a lot of foods and additives you wouldn't expect! Let us know how you make out.

Hi to all. I am new on this blog. I am on Day 5 of TP. Lost 4.6 so far, but this morning my weight stayed the same... I am confused if that means that I am reactive (I introduced goat cheese and chocolate yeaterday)... Also I ate chocolate very late (10 pm)... Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
