All participants are required to pick up their bib number and their chip during the Health and Fitness Expo. The hours of operation are Friday, May 3, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION OR RUNNER PACKET PICKUP.

Pig is getting super close!!! I am excited. Just doing 10k but will holler for spark shirts when we see them during marathon! I read they are going to have Boston wristbands available for donation to give to Boston fund. Also can bring flower or buy flower at start for a memorial. Probably the Boston shirts that are being created to raise money will be available at expo but not sure. Local running stores say they should be getting them this week. Just thought I would share! Hope you are all still coming and will run/walk strong!

Here is my report from last year. I thought I would be totally awesome. Ha!! And this year I was supposed to run the full in order to get revenge on the Pig. That didn't happen, either, thanks to a hip flexor. So I'm just in it for fun this year.

Hi team! Looks like this is the main chat thread, so thought I'd drop in and say hello! My name is Christina, and I'll be coming from Madison, WI to run the Pig full marathon. It's been on my bucket list for a very long time, and this was the year that I finally got it together to come out and run it! Training has been a little rough over the last month due to a really nasty virus that had me down and out for almost two weeks and a long, very intense business trip, but I'm getting it back on track and feel positive about it. Very, very excited about this!

And I'm totally gonna treat myself to some Skyline chili after the race. That stuff ROCKS!

Nice to meet all of you!

janice, you need to focus on distance because speed will come as distance increases. remember goal is to finish healthy!

Today's 6 mile run has me within 1 mile of where I should be in training. I'm disappointed in my pace--just under 12 minute miles--but there is some time to work on that. First things first--build up the mileage. Tomorrow is a rest day--yoga--and Tuesday I'll do a 3-mile run. I need to get back to running 3 days a week to build up the stamina.

i have training issues also, registered for HM but will have to drop to 5 or 10k. strained calf muscle again at a race satruday

i got a 5k race saturday, since i have a 5 miles scheduled i will run a couple after the race. will keep spinning on off days, seems to be helping

I recently nailed a 5k and 10k - PR's on both races a few weekends ago. I finding it challenging to build mileage over 8 or 9 miles due to time constraints. I'm going to try to build up to 15 miles and do a few back to back days prior to the three way weekend to make sure my legs are strong enough to handle the whole weekend.

Glad to see everyone is so excited about the race! Make sure to do some hills with training, the course loads them up front a fair amount with the bridges and going up towards Mount Adams. But it is a great course, good expo, good crowd! Doing 10k Sat, husband running Sunday.

Yeah, I said earlier, I'm not a fan. Hahahaha. My daughter's best friend is from Cincinnati, and when she got out of grad school they roomed together for about two years. They actually got into an argument over whether or not cinnamon was a chili ingredient. They agreed to disagree. Now my daughter lives in Cincinnati, and she doesn't buy chili in restaurants. I live not too far from there (1 1/2 hrs), and we can get chili that way here, but good golly. Some people love it. I don't. Fortunately, Cinci has a lot of other good foods and fun times to offer. Lots of German influence. It's a beautiful city. :-)

NOTHING is wrong with our chili. LOL However, it is different than you find elsewhere. It is a Greek style chili. It has spices like a little bit of cinnamon and chocolate in it. The ground beef is boiled before mixing in all the other ingredients. And it seems many people think it is odd to have your chili served over spaghetti. Go figure. I love it; but then I grew up on it. Not all visitors to our fair city like it.

I'm focused when I'm running a marathon I need to eat my healthy 3 meals 2 snacks and get a good night sleep day before so no partying for me Sat night, but After like Sunday night I'm in for food & a beer etc... time to celebrate my 16 weeks of hard work emoticon

You guys really have never truly experienced Cincinnati if you have not eaten a 3 or 4 or 5-way here. It is a style of Cincinnati chili. If you've never had it, it's probably not a good idea to try for the first time before a race...just saying. But, if you want a gastronomic treat afterwards, just let me know.

Cincinnati chili is unique (I won't give away the secret ingredients 'cause I don't want to scare you off).
- a 3-way is chili, spaghetti and cheese combo
- a 4-way is chili, spaghetti, cheese and onions or beans
- a 5-way is chili, spaghetti, cheese, onions and beans

Gooooood stuff!

Anyway, that's what the 3-way and 4-way Pig races are named for.

Jeri- keep up the recovery training Aqua jogging & bike to keep your body strong while recovering emoticon I find the pool is #1 for my body to repair it's therapeutic even floating on my back and swimming around, it gets rid of any aches and pains from the high impact of running.

Good morning!! I tried to get up and go to the pool this morning, but last night I wore myself out on the bike and the rowing machine. I will do the same workout again this evening, tomorrow will be a rest day, and then aqua jog Friday and Saturday. I am still going to try to do the full at the Pig, but it's looking more and more like I'll be doing the half. I know I'm keeping myself in good shape while I'm off the road, but I just don't see myself getting back on the road for at least another few weeks.

That's EXACTLY what I did Bobby, aqua jog followed by laps for a total of 1-hour workout. Will help with Tri training :) I know you'll see great results! emoticon

Bobby, you should be able to do it but I'm no Doc. If you do deep water jogging there's 0 impact.

I didn't follow it to a "T" because I couldn't get to the Y that often but I did 2 or 3 a week & chose to do intervals. Very monotonous to do the steady state workouts & some believe the intervals are more beneficial because they help you maintain cardio as well; heart rate goes higher with speed intervals.

I can email you some info on how I structured some of my workouts if you're interested; made them easier to endure :) Nothing like running on land but most definitely helps you maintain a good level of running fitness.

Deej- emoticon I talked to a Boston marathoner who was injured and used aqua jogging to keep up his condition, and was able to bounce back. When I had an issue I scaled back my distance goal I was happy doing the 10K that year.

I'm going to need name tags I have a hard time when meeting first time connecting who's who from Spark to meeting in person emoticon

Jeri, my Doc reminds me every week that if I just keep up with my Aqua jogging, I'll be very surprised at how quickly I'll "bounce back"... I know this from experience as well, from aqua jogging throughout my recovery from stress fx last year. He said he came back to PR after using this for recovery; I had the same experience.

Keep on keepin' on with those aqua workouts; I did a lot of interval sessions to break the monotony! You GO girl!

John, excited to see you again as well :) and I'm staying at the Millennium w/ Ms Elsa :)

Anne- I had the same cold flu bug but its all gone now and I'm back in the running just start back gradually, you still have enough time. Look forward to finally meeting you.

Deej- will be nice to re-unite again

You should both book a room at the Millinium Cinn. where everyone is staying I think there's very few left for that weekend. (You CAN always cancel the room up to 3 days before event but it would be hard to get a room later on as marathon weekends get hotels fully booked)

Hotel is booked, I'm just online now booking flight.

Jeri, we're two peas in a "pool" HA! So sorry the hip has you sidelined for January my friend but I'm very happy to hear you have a coach guiding you through!! Keep up the Aqua Jogging; it will make a huge difference in your comeback!!

I too am in injury recovery mode. Had to bow out of the 1/2 I had scheduled for March 30th but hoping to run both the Derby 1/2 (weekend before Pig) & the Pig 1/2. My Sports Chiro is hopeful he'll have me back on the road soon.

Mel, the relay sounds fun :) will be soooo good to see so many of you again & meet even more Sparkers!

I am injured. Yikes!! Some kind of hip injury, not sure what. I hired a new running coach to get me through this. He said he is going to have to change my focus from "race-goal oriented" to "healing-oriented." I'm not allowed to road-run through January. BUT... I will be aqua jogging 4 days a week, and doing strength training. We will reassess at the end of January and go from there. I don't want to give up on the Pig!

anne and i have had a great christmas this year and look forward to the new year. new year's eve we will be doing our annual 5k race along with 5-6 other sparkers, small party at the bar after then home early.

after being on the side lines most to 2012 i look forward to getting back to running in 2013 along with a few tri's this summer and fall.

I've been kind of on the fence trying to decide whether to go for the whole PIG or do the half this year. My life is all upside down right now (just left a job after 26 years and looking for the next one), so I don't know what my available time will be like in the coming months. After lots of deliberation, I think the half is going to be my goal and I can always change the registration up to the full if things go well and I have more time for training.

I love this race and am looking forward to being part of this team!
