I believe in the 80/20 rule, that nutrition is 80% of the battle and exercise 20%. That being said, I do believe in exercising every day or at least 5 days per week, at least that is what works best for me. If I miss a day or two of exercise I don't notice too much of a difference in the way my clothes fit but if I go off my healthy eating plan for a day or two I REALLY notice the difference in the way my clothes fit.

It was a lovely funeral. The lady had 8 children, 30 grandchildren and 36 great grands, and that does not include any spouces..... They came from all over Canada, and I suspect that most of them came. It was great that it is a long weekend as it gives everyone lots of time to get home again for the start of the "work" or "school" week.....

The Birthday party was nice even if the Birthday Girl was a little grumpy.... not feeling the best.... but most of her mother's family was there Including grandmother and great grandmother and great grandfather..... as well as several of her friends and some other children close in age.

Now, back to getting some sorting done and trying to get this place ready for winter....

well I start a live Cleanse on Friday evening going into Saturday so it will be a restful weekend,no exercise and very little food,

Living a Healthy and Active Life style, Reach my Goal and very Happy with my Body,my eating habits,Fresh Fruits, Lot's of Green vegetables,drink 8 To 10 glasses of water daily.

My long weekend......

My great niece will be one year old in September. Her mother (nephew's wife) has booked an area at the church for a party, it has a very large gazebo that will keep us all dry if it rains (not supposed to.....) Not sure how many will be there as she comes from quite a large family..... too many for us all to fit in her small living room. It's not the exact day of the birthday, but she had to take what she could get, and works out great because almost everyone will not be working anyway......

Looking forward to the outing.

Lady at my church passed away last week and her funeral is this Saturday. I am hoping to find a ride so I can go. She is one of the first ladies I met when I first started going to this ward.....

Hubby and I are camping in our backyard and will take day long trips each day to go hiking in various fabulous places around the greater Seattle area and of course find a river and/or lake to swim in, my favorite summer activity!

Mine is not a long story,I went to the ER with chest pain spend one night and the next day when I was leaving the doctor told me to loose some weight and I will stop take meds,so I went home find a gym and sign up and start going to the at 5 am everyday and in the evening at 6 pm workout two hours a day,and from there on I start to eat healthy and drink plenty of water and the weight star to melt off,and I just continue doing that, but I did gain back some when I went to Greece the first time,I came and went back to my exercise and eating healthy, now I only about 6 pounds away from my goal weight and I know I will be getting there soon.

My AHA moment was realizing I am asking myself ill by what I am eating. Finally stopped the denial habit.

Another AHA moment was coming to acceptance that I need help parenting my adopted, daughter with attachment disorder issues.

This big AHA moment is my recognizing with my emotional triggers that affect my over eating to comfort myself.

What or when was your "AHA" moment when you knew you had to lose weight/get in shape and how did you go about it?

For me there have been a few AHA moments. The first was when my son was 9 months old and I still weighed close to 200 lbs and was a tight size 22. I was 5'2" and round as I was tall. I have a very petite build so the weight looked double on me. A friend of mine commented on how fat a certain person was and I mentioned that I may be fat but at least not as fat as her, to which my friend replied "no, your'e fatter." WAKE UP CALL, "AHA!" I went on a diet in which I simply ate smaller portions of all my usual food and started walking with my son in a carrier on my chest. I lived in an area of hills and we walked up and down for miles every day and if it rained we walked like that briskly through the apartment for hours at a time. The weight fell off and in about 4 months I weighed 115 lbs. I maintained that weight for a few years and then slowly got back up to about 140 lbs.

My 2nd "AHA" moment was in 2009. In the late 90's I developed Anorexia and nearly died, had a heart attack at age 33 at 77 lbs. I recovered but never really got over the disordered eating and maintained a "recovery" weight of about 92 - 95 lbs for about a decade. Then in 2008/2009 I crept back into bad habits, stopped exercising regularly and one day when I tried on pants I hadn't worn in a few years I couldn't even get them up past my hips. I looked in the mirror and went "WHOA!" I weighed myself the following day and was astounded to see that I weighed 116 lbs. I was very uncomfortable with this, especially with my small build that looks good at 100 lbs but not much more, so I went back to healthy eating habits and joined a local gym, working out 5 nights a week after work. I got back down to 99 lbs within a couple of months and maintained that weight for another few years.

This last year I've gained some of that weight back in the form of pure FAT and am also dealing with the menopause belly. So I had another AHA moment with myself last week and restarted a rigorous exercise regimen and am once again trying to re-form clean eating habits.

Sorry to ramble, but as you can see weight issues have been with me for many years, since high school in fact. I am and always will be a work in progress and am so thankful for you my sparkfriends to help me along the way!

I'm right there with you Cheryl...my favorite workouts are hiking, swimming in rivers and here in the Pacific NW those activities are SO limited by weather! But we do the best we can, right?
Maybe next summer you and I can meet halfway, say Chehalis or Olympia area, and do a great hike together?

My preferences are not really my reality. Far too little time for hiking opportunities, and a long ways from really enjoying time at the lake. (Can't remember the last time I did get to do those things...sigh!)

So, it is usually to the gym for me for cardio & ST. -- But I will try to get back into the habit of walking 1-3 miles every day once it cools down. And I enjoy meeting a friend at a local trail and walking 3-5 miles when we can arrange it.

I prefer to hike or swim in rivers when weather permits. Most of the time it doesn't so I enjoy working out in my living room with dvd's...I like cardio but I prefer ST.

Sorry if it feels like you are talking to yourself! Summer is a really crazy time of year for our family with the farm. It feels harder as I've gotten older... My planned exercise has been non-existent, but I hope to start back into some kind of routine in a few weeks.

* I have to make it an "appt." (like medical) and keep it...because exercise IS for the health of it.

* Also, I do best if I have a routine. (The problem comes when others significantly interrupt my routine. It seems to throw me for a loop, and becomes harder to commit to making it happen-- no matter what!)
So it is NOT a problem I've resolved. It seems to keep resurfacing!

This is a problem I've been struggling with since mid May when I went on vacation. I've been inconsistent ever since and I'm finding that I'm slowly getting motivation back because I've been forcing myself to do little short workouts, such as lifting weights for 10 minutes while watching a program or doing squats and calf raises while on the phone, mini workouts... and that seems to be making me want to do more.

What works for you?

Its odd that so many people react negatively when we find success isn't it? I think jealousy enters into it a bit but perhaps people who have continuously failed at losing weight, or keeping it off, feel their failure even more so in the face of other's success. I find that sad. But it won't derail my own efforts!

some times I do like to share my weight or I am maintaining my weight,but people don't like to hear that you are trying to loose weight, and some don't like to know that you are maintaining so most of the time I keep it to my self.

I am at goal weight so when I mention to some people my weight loss/maintenance goals I get funny looks and even criticism and some people even say I'm eating disordered. So generally I keep my goals and thoughts on my weight to myself. I find when I am at goal weight that people think I'm obsessed if I talk about it. So I just don't. What about you?

Thanks Elaine, I like dancing too. The other day I put in a favorite cd and danced for 10 minutes. It wasn't long but I worked up a sweat and felt so good that I leashed up the dog and took her for a walk. So it proves that a little bit of exercise will often lead to more!

when I am tired and don't feel like doing any exercise,I go and look in the mirror and see my self,and just tell my self Elaine go to the gym or put in a dancing Video and get moving because I love to dance,when I hear any music I have to start dance,good luck Kelly emoticon emoticon

Normally I would force myself to at least work out for 10 minutes but I'm really struggling right now and so darn tired that I am just not exercising. If anyone has some great ideas for motivation I am all ears!

When you are tired and worn out how do you motivate yourself to exercise?

This has been a tough week for me because I somehow froze up my hamstring which aggravated my sciatic nerve, keeping me from walking, standing or even sitting comfortably. I have to admit that I have not exercised this week because the injury had me so very miserable.

But today I did do an upper body workout because my leg has improved enough for me to at least stand and use light weights for an arm, shoulder and back ST workout. I have faced injuries before and find that usually I can do something, even if it is just forearm curls while planted in front of the TV.

Happy Friday team, its time for the question of the week which is inspired by my injury this week, leaving me without the option of doing any kind of lower body exercise.

When you fall victim to injury or illness do you completely avoid exercise or do you find something that your body will allow you to do, no matter how small?

well my Hubby and I are not a BBQ fan,so I am going to just cook my everyday meal on Sunday for the week and then on Monday I am working half day after that my Sister is here visiting we are going Mall hopping and have fun shopping.

Living a Healthy and Active Life style, Reach my Goal and very Happy with my Body,my eating habits,Fresh Fruits, Lot's of Green vegetables,drink 8 To 10 glasses of water daily.

Hubby and I are having lunch with one of his sisters and his mother this weekend and I plan to enjoy a light meal of salad and/or fish. I will likely skip dessert or just have a bite of hubby's if he indulges in something sweet. I will be careful but I will also enjoy myself and eat well. I like to think I have balance when it comes to eating out.

Good morning team, its time for the question of the week. Since we are heading into a holiday weekend that for many of us will include BBQ's or get-togethers involving food, how do you deal with your eating plans when there is tons of non-diet friendly food available? Do you throw caution to the wind and enjoy what is provided or do you bring your own food?

I do both Kelly,I enjoy my self and when I come home I work on the weight I gain. emoticon

I do a bit of both. I know I don't want to eat a bunch of junk food or sweets but I eat differently than my sis and her husband and I don't expect them to change their diet while I'm there so I eat what they eat and just watch my portions. But I do indulge if my sis makes some of her awesome cookies, I just don't eat a dozen. So its all about moderation and balance and portion control if the dish is fattening.

Hi team, happy weekend and happy Mother's Day! I'm going on vacation day after tomorrow and it got me to thinking about my eating strategy and I decided that would be a good question of the week.

When you are planning a getaway do you plan a strategy ahead of time when it comes to food or do you throw caution to the winds and just enjoy yourself and your food?

I always think positive and always around positive people, even my DH is a very positive person and always tell me positive things that makes me feel great about my self,and if I am talking to someone on the phone like my aunt and she start some negativity talking I just stop her and tell her I don't want to hear anything about that.

I tend to be negative so when I'm surrounded by negativity I have a habit of being sucked in and then we (the negatives) feed off of each other. VERY BAD! I have been focusing the last few months on being more positive. So now, when I'm around a lot of negativity, like at work, I simply remove myself from it and find some task to do that takes me away from the negativity.
I still struggle with it but am happy to say that I am making small progress and hope to one day be a positive person.

I will just get back right on track the next day,I don't beat my self up and sometimes it's good to indulge once in a while,as you say Kelly the next day exercise more and drink more water emoticon

When I overindulge I try not to let it ruin my whole day and try to get right back on the wagon, so to speak. Occasionally I will sort of eat wrong all day and then I will spend the next couple of days exercising a bit more and eating cleaner and drink more water.

and so my husband too Kelly,he is very anti-religious so we don't go to church either.he don't even want to hear the word god in the house so because of that we don't talk about religion at no time at all.we are not doing anything but tomorrow we are going to his brother house for lunch/dinner and they are going to have lamb with all the trimmings what is it I don't know.if I was home it would be different and before I got Married it would be also different.hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend.

My husband is, unfortunately, anti-religious so we don't go to church, though I often think about getting up early and going by myself but when the day comes I just don't do it...don't have a church and kind of intimidated by going alone. Hubby does insist on coloring a dozen easter eggs each year, which we eat over the course of a few weeks. We don't do easter baskets or easter egg hunts anymore...no kids so no point...the grandkids go to other grandparents for all that commercial hoopla garbage.

Hubby and I usually fix a nice ham dinner but this year we'll be lucky to eat at all, broke as we are so I'm not planning a big meal. We have a plumber coming in fact on Sunday to deal with yet our 2nd flood in a month. This flood due to septic tank back-up, super fun. We'll likely eat sandwiches while vacuuming up the squishy.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter, whatever you do!
