Hi BlueKitty!

Man am I jealous of your weather and temperature in particular. I would give anything to have 70 degree weather right now. Count your blessings my dear!

I will check out the link you gave me and will let them know you referred me to it. If you really think about it, you should post it in the "Team Wall" posting area. Let everyone on the team know about it and they'll use your referral code. You'll get a lot more kudos coming your way that way. :)

The picture looks like my town. It's just an image I downloaded. We have had no snow this year so we will probably cry drought this summer. It looks like Spring outside. We have had 2 days in the lower 70's. The trees are blooming pretty flowers.

I wanted to share this site: https://myperks.catchow.com?_cts_=7bsS76jg

It has articles and prizes for reading them and other activities. I have gotten several free 20# bags of cat food from them. If you join on, tell them Jan Alcock was who sent you. I need the points. emoticon

You live in a beautiful state, Oregon. I'll bet it's lovely this time of year BlueKitty! Looks like you have no snow but maybe the picture is misleading. :) We're warming up here in Illinois (Chicagoland) and, hopefully, the snow is on its way out. Can't wait for Spring. I'm so anxious to get out there and start walking again, taking in the nature and soaking up the sun's Vitamin D rays. :)

Welcome back BlueKitty! Wow, what a family you've got. We're glad you came back and are hopeful that your time here at SP will prove to be beneficial to all family members needing it. Please feel free to drop some hints about healthy eating if you wish. We'd love to take advantage of anything you've learned so we can learn from it too!

That's so odd about your dog and his gagging. Glad it doesn't happen very often.

I'm going to get a little planting done today, put some flowers in around our mailbox and around our well cap in the back yard. Going to be a nice sunny, mild day. Great day to get out and do a little work. DH is going to do any lifting for me. Can't wait to get started!

Hi Felina, I'm glad to hear everything worked out with Cosmo. It's a scary thing when they start acting in a way that you can't help them with. My dog, Angie, (I still call her my baby cuz she is), will out of the clear blue start gagging like she has something in her mouth. It's frightening! She's done this since she was way way young. Never really understood it. Questioned the vet back when she was still very young and all they told me that gagging is an unusual thing for them at the young age that she was but that I should keep an eye on it. But like I said, it doesn't happen very often so it's always a frightening thing when it does occur. Out of the clear blue, when she's not into anything nor doing anything. She could be sleeping and wake up doing it. Really weird. So I've gotten to the point now that I just go up to her and rub her throat area, sometimes a little harder than others, and it seems to help or at least she looks like it's soothing her. It's frightening I know.

But I'm glad Cosmo is back to being Cosmo. I'm sure he didn't eat after that and was probably very hunger. Getting their appetite back is always a great sign that things are back to normal.

Busy week, missed a lot of Sparking.

Cosmo got rid of whatever was stuck in his throat, didn't need the scope. Sunday morning he was laying on me in bed like he usually does, purring away. He started gagging hard. I was sure he was going to bring up a pile of mucus right on my face! Nothing came up but after that he was fine. No more gagging. Eating and drinking with no problem. Whatever was in there he must have dislodged and swallowed. He was super hungry all day Sunday, wanted to eat every time we went into the kitchen. He's been back to normal ever since.

Rainy day here in the Chicagoland area and COLD! It's only 39 right now. Talk about dampness and cold that just chills your bones. Gadzooks!

Well it's a great day to tackle the needed housework that's been getting put off for a number of reasons. But this house is going to be meticulously clean by the time I'm done with it. I've decided to take a little breather from work and devote all my time and attention to God and to the overdue housecleaning here. It is Spring so it's also a great time to get the weeding out of the way so that my flowers and shrubs stand a fighting chance to come back this year and look better than ever.

Hey I have had a change of heart regarding housework as I have now discovered I can consider it a "workout". Isn't that great. All these years of doing the lousy housework, never realizing or knowing that it's a workout and a good one at that.

Well I'll be reporting back on how much of a workout I actually had today. I did Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies yesterday for the first time in a long time and it felt so good to do it. I can't believe I lasted the whole 40 minutes and didn't quit. I guess I'm not in as bad a shape as I thought I was. All I have been doing is SITTING for hours on end working on what has been needed, putting out fires where needed and trying to conjure up some well needed work activity. Tough being in sales sometimes. Well on top of SITTING ALL DAY, I've also been eating ..... just to do it! I'm ashamed to even admit it but that's what I've been doing. But I got up yesterday and started my exercising again AND my drinking of water as well. I had 48 oz with Green Tea last night and I have to say it has helped me feel better already. I got the courage up and weighed myself this morning and I've gained 6 pounds back since I was on the correct "Journey To Success". Oh, well, that just proves that I have to keep at what I started yesterday and this time NOT QUIT!

Well, nice to know I broke the "bad habit" yesterday. Now it's just a matter of continuing on. Hope you all can report in on your successes and we can all look forward to this Spring of many great and successful achievements. :)

Hey did any of you have any idea how much of a "cure-all" drinking water is all about????? I just read a testimony elsewhere where a lady stated how drinking water over the last 7 weeks or so had improved her facial qualities. She states that her lines are disappearing and she calls it her own, natural, "face lift". The amount of wrinkles have dwindled substantially. Now, who would have thought that something so simple and so natural could have a such a huge impact on one's body image.

Let's all make an honest effort to include more water in our daily lives by starting to drink a minimum of 8 oz of water a day and work up to (8) 8 oz. of water a day.

I did this many, many years ago with much success. I was drinking (8) 16 oz. glasses of water in the morning and then another (8) 16 oz. glasses of water in the afternoon at a job I had. Reason I did that was because I was always so cold at my job that I would go down to the cafeteria and get hot water to drink to keep me warm throughout the day. I have to admit, though, that it took my body close to 6 months to accept this new regimen before the water started to take its effect on me, removing the toxins from my system.

But that was a LONG time ago and I would never expect you guys to drink that much water in a day. But the standard is to have (8) 8 oz. glasses of water a day so let's work on getting this accomplished.

Just report here for now on this as I'm not putting it out there as a challenge just yet. Want to see who comes in to participate and then we'll take it from there.

Great weather we're having right now. A little chilly right now, but I'll take that over the heat any day!

Have a great day everyone!

Oh Felina, I'm sorry to hear bout your baby and I'm sorry I wasn't here to talk. Been putting a lot of fires out in my own life and it's just eating me up alive. I sure hope your baby was alright. Sounds like it could have been a needle. Hope it wasn't!

I'm a retired nurse, haven't worked in many years. Had to stop because of the spine arthritis.

Each day is getting a little better. Right now, that knife seems to be gone. Got fingers crossed it doesn't come back. Neck is turning a little better too.

Just got back from taking Cosmo to the vet. He seems to have something stuck in his throat. Every time he'd try to eat or drink he'd gag like something was there and bring up mucus. They examined him, did xrays, couldn't see anything. Gave him some fluids under the skin and a med to calm the belly. He was able to eat a little when we got home, gagged after but didn't bring anything up. We're too watch him over the weekend and if not better Monday they're going to sedate him and take a closer look. DH thinks he could have inhaled a pine needle when he was out with him yesterday. Keep fingers crossed he gets rid of whatever it is over the weekend and won't need the scope.

Now I'm weary. Long morning. I think the rest of today will be a me day.

Oh my! That doesn't sound good although it sounds like the pain has subsided substantially. Too bad we don't have our nurse here in CatLady! She'd know exactly what to say and would give you some dynomite advice. But she'll be back. I just know it. And then we'll have our own nurse online to help the rest of us with all of our aches and pains. ;)

Have you tried a different browser? Maybe it's a browser issue. I have four different browsers and some work better than others, depending on the site.

I'm not real crazy about the new features either. It's harder to get to the blogs. You always have to go back to the Team page. Seems like the new format discourages interaction.

Thank you for the encouragement. I think the prednisone is starting to kick in. I've had what feels like a knife sticking in my left shoulder blade for weeks and this morning it feels like a smaller knife. I've put all strength exercises on hold but am doing some cardio, carefully.

Felina, I don't know what's going on with those wall posts. I write in there and nothing. Oh well, at least the rest of you are able to use it. I'm really frustrated with that whole thing and I, for one, do not like the new features at all.

Also, Felina, I'm glad you're starting to have better luck with your sleeping habits and that you're feeling better. Just let your body let you know what you need and when you need it. You'll be back up and running in no time. :)

Saw the doc on Tuesday. I'm in an arthritis flare. Again. He started me on prednisone to knock it out. He also gave me something to take at bedtime for bedtime pain. I actually slept 5 hours in a row last night! That's a record for me!

I posted once on the Team Wall with no problems. I wonder why yours didn't post. Weird.

Oh well, I was posting that we had a new member, Green-Eyed-Lady and I wanted you all to wish her well and welcome her with open arms to our team.

Busy, busy day and am I glad it's over. Now I can enjoy myself be being with my SP people.

I try to do it several times a week. I always use my ABBA Greatest Hits CD. The first few songs really get me going.

I'm headed out today to see the doc about my upper back/neck pain. It just won't leave me alone. I've had spine arthritis for 20 years but all the pain has been lower - low back, hips, groin, left butt, left upper thigh. This upper back pain is new. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to anti inflammatories and Celebrex. And a med I was on for chronic pain for years gave me such uncomfortable side effects that I stopped it a couple years ago, so the only thing I'm taking is turmeric, which takes the edge off but doesn't make the pain go away. I always hurt. GRRRR I'm seeing th doc today to see if there's ANYTHING else I could be doing to ease this crap. Wish me luck!

Nothing like it Felina. It always increases the positiveness in my life. I should really make a habit of doing this. Especially since it makes me feel sooooooo good. :)

I agree! Putting on music I like motivates me to move. And I can do whatever I feel like doing. I usually walk all around the living room, around the dining room table, up and down the steps and repeat. Or I'll just bop around without the steps. Always leaves me smiling.

That is a great idea Felina. I love to put on my favorite music and just bop around myself. I also sing as well. I think that is one of the best ways to enjoy the music you love and get your exercise in as well. It kind of escaped me this winter for a while. But it's the easiest and funnest (is that a word?) to pick up your moods, get your exercises in and listen to what you enjoy. I'd say it's the best of all worlds. :)

It's cloudy and yucky here, don't even want to go outside.

I try to do some cardio most days, usually in two sessions, morning and afternoon. It's easier for me to break it up. I also decided it has to be something I enjoy. My two faves are wii tennis and my "ABBA walk" - I turn on my ABBA cd and bop around the living and dining room for a while. Both of those workouts are very flexible, I can make then as hard or easy as I need to depending on how I'm feeling. Works great!

Glad the exercises will be of some help to you Felina.

Honestly, I haven't searched out the new layouts here yet. Making sure I take care of business here first and then I'll have time to browse. ;)

It's going to be beautiful here today. Such a relief. I've got so much outside work to do. It's only 51 right now so I'll work inside for a bit and then venture outside to do what I have to do. Rake the remaining junk up out of the yards and hopefully clean my car out .... it's soooooo filthy from having literally lived in it all winter with business. Now it's time to clean it all up and make it look like a brand new car.

Jumpstarting my exercise program(s) a little late. Was suppose to start May 1 but it was raining so I didn't. Weak excuse I know but no more excuses. My body needs help and it's high time I started giving it that help. This is a priority in my life now.

Thank you! I've done most of these exercises with some modifications to some, except the back leg swing, which I can't do. This list is a good reminder because some I haven't done in a while. I'll print out the list for a visual reminder.

I see the blog link is back, that's good. I haven't decided if I like the Team Wall yet. And the printing on the team pages seems smaller and harder to read. That's unfortunate. I don't like that either. It's harder to scan through the team page.

Felina, that is absolutely true. There has been a lot of negative feedback about how they took the SP pages and the huddle stream away and we've been informed that they are bringing them back. That's very good news. :) So be on the lookout for them.

Also, for your back exercises request that I couldn't find what I posted. I found it. I actually had a post on this in my Journey to Success team and am posting it to you here now. Hope it does the trick:

******

Just found this helpful information for any of us that have a back condition of any sort. These are excellent exercises that will help strengthen your back. Just go cautiously and slowly so you don't injure your back any further. If you feel you can't do one, disregard it.

I have a vertebrae out of place and these exercises have helped to strengthen them. Hoping it will help you as well:

*******
Leg Raises to strengthen stomach and hip muscles

How to: Lie on your back with your arms at your sides. Lift one leg off the floor to about a 45 angle. Hold your leg up for a count of 10 and return it to the floor. Do the same with the other leg. Repeat 5 times with each leg. If that is too difficult, keep one knee bent and the foot flat on the ground while raising the opposite leg.

Leg Raises to strengthen back and hip muscles

How to: Lie on your stomach. Tighten the muscles in one leg and raise it from the floor. Raise it as high as you can (approximately 30) without causing any discomfort to your lower back or lifting your hip off the floor. Hold your leg up for a count of 10 and return it to the floor. Do the same with the other leg. Repeat 5 times with each leg.

Wall Slides to strengthen your back, hip and leg muscles

How to: Stand with your back against a wall and feet shoulder-width apart. Slide down into a crouch until theknees bend to about 90. Count to 5 and slide back up the wall. Repeat 5 times.

Partial Sit-Up to strengthen stomach muscles

How to: Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on floor. Slowly raise your head and shoulders off the floor and reach with both hands toward your knees. Count to 10. Repeat 5 times.

Back Leg Swing to strengthen hip and back muscles

How to: Stand behind a chair with your hands on the back of the chair. Lift one leg back and up while keeping the knee straight. Return slowly. Raise the other leg and return. Repeat 5 times with each leg.

Exercises to increase flexibility and stretch out the back

How to: Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on your bed or floor. Raise your knees toward your chest. Place both hands under your knees and gently pull your knees as close to your chest as possible. Do not raise your head. Do not straighten your legs as you lower them. Start with 5 repetitions, several times a day.

Remember to never exercise to the point of sharp pain or discomfort, and gradually progress to more repetitions or sets of an exercise. Although it can be uncomfortable or slightly painful to strengthen the areas of your body that are causing your back pain, the benefit will be there in the long run. Say so long to the pain in your back!

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I just read a post about the SP changes and there are a lot of complaints about not being able to find the blogs. One of the SP Coaches posted that they are going to bring team blogs back to the team page. I'm glad, because I normally check blogs on my teams every day.

Thanks Felina for the kind words. No fun hurting. Thanks for being so considerate. ;)

I agree about not having the blogs available nor the huddle wall. Those were point givers and now they're gone. Oh well, such is life! :)

Unfortunately with the changes SP has made to their site, I haven't been able to find what I want you to have but I'll keep searching til I find it. In the meantime, I did find this link that you might want to take some time to read and watch the video. Goes over many ways in which we hurt ourselves and how we can avoid that from happening if we're only a little more careful. ;)

CatLady, I know what you mean about the dog's share of the bed. I found a picture that relates really well to this whole concept. If you want to see it, go to my page and check out my pictures. You'll find it there.

I'm getting off of here. My system is running so slow I cAN'T EVEN WRITE A DECENT POST HERE. sEE YOU TOMORROW! ;) See what happened when I wrote and couldn't see what I was writing????? Either this system is totally messed up or I may have an update due to take place on my system. So hopefully, I'll be able to write a post normally tomorrow.

I miss the link to the team blogs. I normally visit each of my teams daily and read team members' blogs. Can't do that now.

King size bed. Nice! We've always had a king size bed. We have a Select Comfort bed, bought it years ago. Now they call it the Sleep Number bed. Great bed. But my favorite was the king size water bed we had many years ago. It was wonderful! It was heated and felt so good on my arthritic back. DH didn't like it as much as I did so we eventually got rid of it.

Super, sorry about your knee. Wouldn't surprise me if it was the weather. The rain does wonders on joints.

What about the new page??? I don't like it at all. Miss the huddle wall.

Just checking in. DH is doing some cleaning in the bedroom as we are suppose to have our new king sized bed delivered today. It has been a month since we purchased it. Of course the only reason we are getting a larger bed is because of Boone!!!!!! I've never bought a piece of furniture for my pet before!!! LOL!!! He just takes up too much bed and I am sure with the extra 16" in the king size he will use every bit of it!!!!!

Good to see people on the thread.

I have an appointment with the doc on May 6th and hopefully she can help me get to the bottom of my recent issues. My "I'll try" for the day is to drink my 8 glasses of water. Starting small.

Love ya all!!!!

Susan

Felina, I keep forgetting to put the back exercises on here. But now, with my left knee giving me grief for the first time ever (must be the rain .... maybe arthritis), I am going to have to start working it out.

I've got a busy day with appointments but I'll come back here when I'm done for the day and make sure I get it up here for you and anyone else looking for it!

I've been modifying some of the strength exercises I had been doing, so I can support my neck. Crunches are a little tough, but I've been holding a rolled up towel behind my neck for support. That seems to help. I also just started doing the plank again, being careful how I hold my head. It's all about modification. Today I'm focusing on cardio. Some wii tennis this morning and bopping around to some music this afternoon.

I've had back problems since I was a teenager. Diagnosed as arthritis 20+ years ago. At that time I was told I had the back of an 80 year old. I was 42 at the time! I've learned to adapt and do things differently since then.

CatLady will be rested and rejuvenated when she returns.

As for the walking. I started that regime right before Easter and loved it. But I think I may have pushed a bit too hard too soon and that can happen. :) Now it's going to rain the rest of the week so I'll be able to jumpstart my other exercise programs and be in good shape after this week. I'll be "Sweatin' To The Oldies" with Richard Simmons and I've got a video from Jenny Craig that I like a lot. There's always the shorter videos here on Latin Dancing and Zumba which I love. I am so anxious to getting started. Hope the rest of you are. I was in a slump myself and am so anxious to change my lifestyle so that I feel better, am stronger and toned up. I can't wait!

Hey Felina, good to hear from you!

Sorry to hear about your fall. Those darn "loves" of ours can't help but get in under us at times thus causing us to stumble and fall. What a bummer you wound up getting hurt the way you did and then to jar your back. I have a bad back and I know how painful that can be when it decides to act up.

Sounds like you've kept yourself on the path to success with your exercises. Good for you my dear. Strengthening exercises? Well, I do those all the time. But I did find a great set of back exercises and I'll post them here as soon as I find them. You should be able to do them with no problem. Other strengthening exercises? Well, there's always crunches, squats, side twists, leg lifts and walking in place. I do a lot of these myself. I'll pull up some of my past challenges and start posting them here for you.

Yeah, I was sorry to hear about CatLady but you know, sometimes, the team leaders have to take a break. And when I needed to do it at Journey To Success, my team mates were sooooooo supportive and understood even though I was doing such a number on myself. Nothing like having that support to keep you going.

CatLady will be back. She just needs a break. She's been working hard here and she does an awesome job. She just ran out of gas. She's got to get her "mojo" back (hahahahaha!).

Then watch out when she does. She'll be blowing all the rest of us away like she always did.

Good to know you miss her as much as I do.

Sounds like you're doing good with the walking. Walking Angie is great motivation. We have cats. One of them, Cosmo, walks on a leash with DH. But that's not exercise. We have a big backyard and DH takes him out there. Cosmo likes to stalk the squirrels, bunnies and birds so most of the them DH is sitting in a chair while Mo does his thing.

I've been doing OK with my cardio, getting at least 30 minutes total most days. But I'm having problems with my strength exercises. I fell in the fall, tripped by one of my cats, landing on my hands and knees, causing pain in my upper back and neck. Xrays showed my low back arthritis is now in my entire spine, all the way through the neck. The fall aggravated it. GRRR As a result I'm having trouble finding strength exercises I can do, especially upper and core exercises. Everything seems to strain the neck. GRRRRR I'm not giving up, though.

I hope things improve for CatLady. We need her here. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

And thank you for stepping in for her.

Felina, I know, the year is almost a 6 months gone and I had such high hopes for this year being my year. Well, I guess I can keep pushing and make some successful achievements still for 2014. Guess it doesn't help that we haven't had the right kind of weather for this time of year. Yes, it's due to rain most of the week here as well.

But that's good for your gardening, right???? I know it's good for my bushes and flowers on our front yard hill. So hopefully, that area will start looking better than it has.

I know that my dog, Angie, loves the fact that we can go walking again. She's missed it and so have I. I have really enjoyed the days I've been able to get out and walk. I started with a quick 10 minute walk with her and now it's almost up to 20 minutes. So I'm optimistic as to what my results will be. I'll be working on another 5K walk, maybe two during these spring and summer months.

Let's all keep CatLady in our thoughts and prayers. She's going through a rough time and I know she helped me through a horrible time in my life over the last year. It's the least I can do to keep her going. She is such a motivator and an encourager for all of us here. We need to be here for her.

She'll still be checking in so let's make it worth her while and get her back here as soon as possible. I know we'll all miss her while she's gone but we all also know she will be back. :)

I know what you mean, I can't believe it's almost May! I've been starting and stopping too, just can't seem to get my act together. We're looking a week of rain too, darn, I've been enjoying doing the spring yard work. Oh, well, May is almost on us and it WILL be better!

Holy Cow! Where is this year going????? It's already the end of April and I have so far to go to make my goals for this year! Talk about being behind the eight ball!

Well at least I'm walking again outside with the weather being so great in the Chicagoland area! But now, we're going to get a full week of nothing but rain! OIY! So I guess it's a good week for me to do the housework and work out with Richard Simmons. Well, that's good, cuz I'll be jumpstarting everything all over again ..... which is what I need to do. :)

Well, May can only be a better month than all the first four of the months this year have been.

The month is half over!!! Yikes!! Where did the time go? If the whole year is like this it will be 2015 before you know it.

I am looking to volunteer at an animal shelter. It is called Til The End of TIme Sanctuary. Not far from my home. They take in handicapped animlas and well animals. A no kill place. It is where the animal can live out the rest of his/her life. I go there Friday to check them out. I have donated to them several times and they sound great on the phone. Meet them at an event at Tractor Supply in the fall. At least it will be something to get me out of the house for a little while each week. Wish me well.

Hope everyone is doing well. Keep on pushing. Don't give up!!

HI Diane!! No problem. I get those "duh" moments as well. Funny. Go to the Challenges and Results Forum on the team. Then go to WINTER challenge resutls and there you can log your results to that challenge. Glad you were able to participate.

How is everyone doing? CHristmas is behind us now and time to get focused on our program, that is if you slipped during the holidays. The end of the year may be a time to just let go and give in, although we should always try to maintain a sense of moderation. If you did succumb to the holiday goodies and over-indulged a new year is quickly approaching to get yourself back on track.

Only a few more days in 2013 and it is time to make plans for 2014. What you want to accomplish this coming year? I plan on making small, simple changes to my out of control habits. Dealing with my mom this year caused me to lose focus on myself so my goal is to recommit to myself. I plan on being good to myself and doing what I need to keep myself healthy and happy.

I made a plan last night before i went to bed. I made out my to-do list and included simple things on it like get dressed. Typically I stay in my over-grown nightshirt all day in slippers. I don't get dressed unless I am going out so today I got dressed not too long after I got up. I put on sweatpants and a shirt which is a far cry from what I normally wear so that is a plus and to be honest, I feel better for having done it. I also made it a point to brush my teeth. Dental hygiene is another part of my self care routine that is missing.

In an attempt to control my eating I also made out my menu for the day. We do make out a two week menu for evening meals but I don't usually make a menu out for the whole day, so that's what I did last night. It is written down so I can look and remind myself what I AM suppose to be eating. I did put down unlimited veggies. Actually having some baby carrots for a snack right now.

emoticon Let's hear it for carrots!!!!! What will you do that is healthy today???

Hope everyone is having a great day with their family. What a blessed day. Make sure during this time of festivities your pets are safe. Lots of activity with family can make pets shy or aggressive. Take care to make their holiday a safe one. Try to skip on the treats from the dinner table!!!

Hello long lost friends of mine! It's been forever since I've been here and I'll try to be better in the new year.

But I am here asking a SPECIAL REQUEST to anyone out there in the Baltimore, MD area.

I have a lady who needs food for her cats and dog and has no way of getting it before next Tuesday. She doesn't drive and doesn't have internet. I'm looking to be a "SECRET SANTA" and get her the needed food for her animals.

I'm crying out to anyone and everyone that can help me get her what she needs in as little time as possible. I'm looking to ship it out if need be but am hoping someone in her immediate area of Baltimore can help me make this happen by working with me.

Time is of the essence and I need responses like yesterday. Please feel free to call me at 847.989.4885 or write me here or at my personal email at "karlpie1009@yahoo.com" or text me if you can help and want to.

I will be forever in your debt if you can come to my rescue now. You're probably asking why so late the request? Well, I just found out about it myself and I want to get her her food for her animals. Hope the rest of you can understand and would be willing to help me accomplish this for her.

God bless every one of you and please have a very Merry Christmas!

Ours is a quiet Christmas too, just DH, my Mom and me. Several years ago we changed the way we Christmas shop, since we're all on fixed incomes and spending a lot on gifts doesn't make sense.

What started as a practical solution has turned into a lot of fun. We buy each other ten $1 gifts, wrap each individually and put them in gift bags. We each end up with 3 bags filled with 10 gifts each bag. We can buy anything we want as long as it only costs one dollar, and can only spend $10 on each person. When we open gifts on Christmas morning it's hysterical! Some of the gifts are totally silly. One of the rules when we open gifts is that if anything is wearable we have to put it on. One year my DH ended up wearing two different pairs of socks, a knit hat, reindeer antlers and goofy glasses with a big nose attached!
emoticon
That one change, the dollar gifts, has put the fun back into Christmas for all of us. We laugh like a bunch of kids the whole time!
emoticon

emoticon emoticon
I'm cooking Christmas dinner - turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, peas. For dessert I made a deep dish pumpkin pie, with Cool Whip or ice cream.
emoticon

We're going to watch a couple of DVD's during the day - Despicable Me 1 and 2.

Hey team!! Can we get this thread going again???

The kitten saga is going well. They new kids on the block have adjusted well and are now a regular part of the family. They do have a lot of energy however!!!!

No big Chrismtas news for me. DH doesn't celebrate so it is quiet at our home. I do send out cards and have gotten a few back. I think most of the ones I sent out I got one in return. So no big adjustments in the list for next year. Some new addresses of course. What is everyone having for CHristmas dinner?

Come on back and chat!!!!! It's lonely here!!!!

Kitten up-date:

Bella pooped in my bathroom sink yesterday morning. Yuk!!! Then to make it worse DH looked and asked, "Are these worms?" Double yuk!!! Yup, worms it was. Tons of them. So off to the vet we went for a $100 treatment!!!!! We couldn't catch her sister, Willow, so we had to bring some treatment home for when we can catch her. The vet was appalled, so was I.

Bella is adjusting well. Now wandering around the house and loving Boone. Willow spent most of the day hiding in the house. Which is good as she was hiding on the back porch previously. At least she is migrating to the house. Then last night she came into the living room and hid for a ittle while then started snooping around and made her way to the bedroom. She managed to get on the bed for a short while and when I woke up this morning she was sitting on my nightstand. I was able to run my hand on her so that is major progress.

A happy family!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!

Well, we brought home the two new kids. One is a blue torbie. A torbie is a cross between a tortoise and tabby. Something new to me. They say it is more about color than breed. The second one is a black tortoise shell. She is very shy and hasn't really ocme out. She has a hiding place on the back porch and then might run out to go to another hiding place. No socialization at all. Her name is Willow. Bella is the blue torbie and she was shy at first. By bedtime she came out from under the bed and made herself known. She became an instant love bug and slept in bed all night. Several times she got under the covers and slept in my arms. How cute!!! Bella did eat something this morning but i had to feed her in the bed!!! The older kids are adjusting, slowly. The dog is kinda afraid of them but Bella has rubbed noses with Boone, the dog. Hopefully Willow will come along and get more social.

This afternoon we go and meet the new kids. Hope we like them and go through with the adoption. DH is a little leery seeing as we found out some health stuff about them. One broke her leg four weeks ago but is healing well and the vet says there will be no residual issues. I am ready to adopt but DH has some questions.

Quick, someone shake some sense into me!!!! I just put in an application to adopt two kittens. They are 4 months old living in foster care. I checked out the local pound website and found these cute girls. One is a polydactyl. Both get along with other cats and one does dogs. Now I wait for foster mom to approve my application. The pound says I look good for it. Then i can live up to my name..."catladyx8" I miss my other two cats. I was feeling lonely with just 6. DH is up for it. He is the one who suggested it!!!! Sucker!!!!!

Glad to see you Audrey.

I am excited about wokring with my personal trainer. Met her Tuesday for the first time adn the session went well. I go again today. We will workout two days a week. I was able to do more than I thought I could. I think it will be a good investment for me.

Tomorrow is therapy for my eating issues. Not sure we are getting far but i will continue to go for a little while more. Maybe there will be a breakhrough.

Hope everyone has a good day!!

Sorry I haven't been here for a while. Since vacation I've been working. It's a routine. I get up, eat, get ready, go to work, come home & do it all again the next day 5-7 days before getting a day off. I haven't been feeling too good either. I need to get back into the swing of things but it's hard too. Well going to go for now. Hope everyone is having a great day.

Poor Boone. Hope he's better today. My Braveheart has always had a sensitive tummy. Sometimes it will be a hairball or grass or his dinner. He's been doing a little better lately since we switched him to a senior diet that's easier on the belly.

We're having some repair work done today, plumbing and electrical. We're working on organizing and sprucing up since we hope to move next spring. We plan to get as much done before hand as we can. I hate the idea of moving but we've decided it's time.

Enjoy this nice fall day!

My poor Boone was sick yesterday. He was sluggish all day ad then in the afternoon he vomited his snacks. Later on I cooked him dinner, which, he ate, more slowly than usual and after a few minutes he vomited that up too. All undigested. I felt bad because he can't tell you what's wrong. So off to bed we all went. He slept all night, made some doggie noises during the night, which, as a good mother I was in tuned to. When he moved i woke up checking on him. This morning he seems to be okay, but he hasn't eaten yet. DH took him out for his walk and that went well. He is pooping okay so I don't know if he ate some grass while outside or what. Hope it is a better day for him.

My new washer & dryer are up ad running. DH got them hooked up yesterday and by the evening I was washing. It was wonderful. I got in 3 loads before bed and it was so convenient. Then this morning as soon as i got up I put in a load while I was fixing breakfast and got it going. It is nice to be able to do the laundry and then complete other tasks while it is running.

Got a tree service to come out and give us an estimate about a large tulip tree in the front yard. It got struck by lightning earlier this year and is split from the top down to the ground. The man said it was dying and would need to come down "eventually." So, he gave us a good estimate to include taking the tree down and stump grinding so we said to go ahead. Also good news is that the company is making a 10% donation to the cancer center in our area during the month of October. I asked for that donation and so they will come out in October to do the work so I was eligible for it. I was always worried about the tree falling into the house so now it will be taken care of.

Have a good weekend everyone!!

Oh what a beautiful morning. Cool and good for an early morning walk. I got up and went for my walk first thing. I did 30 minutes. It felt good. The sun was coming up and it was wonderful. I heard to hawks talking to each other. How amazing.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Sapphie has recovered fully from the anesthesia. She is eating like a trooper. Boy was she hungry the first day home. I fed her twice...canned food in the morning and some baked Cod in the evening. Today we started the mouth rinses. that doesn't go over big. I wear more then she gets in her mouth.

Have been doing well with ST this week. Got in 20 minutes two days and 11 minutes the other day. The ST begins on a Thursday so my week may sound short to some, but in all actuality I am right on schedule. It is a challenge on another team.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Well, dropped Sapphire off at the vet today for her dental surgery. I feel bad but am hopeful that it will solve her dental problems in the long run. I know the next few days will be difficult for her with pain...I am sure!!! I hope I don't have to give her any pills. Manipulating her mouth will hurt. I guess I should buy some more frozen fish for her. She loves baked fish. I treat her to it every few days. She also gets her morning soft food, but the fish is a treat. She really enjoys the Cod.

Finally got the final approval from the Health Department to use our new well for drinking. To be honest I started using it when the water test came back negative. It has taken the health department a week to send approval and that was only after I called them to see what the hold up was.

Feeding kitties at our house is like having a kitty restaurant. Cosmo is on a prescription diet and can only eat that food and nothing else, so has to be watched when he eats so he doesn't steal. Henry is on a diet and eating lower calorie food and is not allowed to steal, so he needs to be watched. Toby and Bravy are the old guys, both in kidney failure and should be on special food but won't eat it. We're feeding them Iams senior dry food plus some can food. Bravy likes his milk but Cosmo is not allowed to have any, even though he loves it. Sometimes I feel like the food police!

This morning Cosmo is pouting. Every morning he sits on my lap while I read my book. This morning Toby got to my lap first and Mo couldn't sit with me. He was not happy. Later when Toby was in the litter box Mo sat and waited nearby. When Toby got out Mo smacked in the face and walked away! It was hysterical!

Enjoy the day!

Good morning Pet Lovers. I am enjoying my pets this morning. My cats have had their breakfast and now they are sleeping in their respective spots. Each one has he/her own nap spot. Some have a place that I haven't found yet. Sapphire, my Siamese, goes to the vet tomorrow to have her molars pulled. I am dreading this for her. I hate to cause her pain, but they are giving her problems with gingivitis and infections. It is either long-term antibiotics and prednisone or the surgery. So, in the long run I think the surgery is the best option.

Boone is camped out in the recliner. He loves the new recliners. Sharing is not in his vocabulary!!!!!

I did find my new freggie to try. i didn't see any avocados but I got a star fruit. I asked DH if we had tried one once before but he didn't think so, so I will try it tonight for dessert.

I've never tried avocados. Have you done a Google search on avocado recipes? I'm usually hesitant about trying foods I haven't had before. Seems as I get older I'm developing sensitivities to certain foods, even meds.

We shopped yesterday, made the mistake of going with DH. He spotted some Krispy Kreme pumpkin spice donuts and had to have them. I've never had that brand, and I just LOVE pumpkin, so I had a couple. The were good but not good enough to make me go back to junk food eating.

I didn't ahve anyhting in the hosue and didn't go out so when I shop today I will look for a new freggie to try. Not sure what it will be, maybe an avocado. I can't remember if I've ttried one before or not. I know I've had artichokes. I don't really know what to do with an avocado. Any suggestions???

Thought I'd stop by to say hi before heading back to work. Finally went for a walk with my husband & it felt good to get out there & walk. Going to try to go every chance I get as long as it doesn't rain. After tonight I'm off the next 2 days so I can get some serious exercise in. Well hope everyone is doing fine. Got to go get ready for work.
