This is my "shadow" Jackson. I was depressed and I adopted him from a shelter and he got me "out of bed" and feeling better initially. Now I'm really feeling depressed again. Don't know what I should do to get out of the "funk".

This squirrel isn't a "pet" either - but I often feed them old bread. Enjoy watching them scamper all over our old oak trees.

When the gastroenterologist felt my belly yesterday he said it didn't feel like my liver was enlarged after all unless it's all up under my rib cage. He said he wasn't very concerned but ordered a "fibro-scan", a specialized ultrasound to check for fibrosis/damage to my liver.

He also ordered a colonoscopy which I had 5 years ago. I think I'm going to cancel it. I feel like I'm imposing on my son to give me rides to all these appointments. He owns a pizza shop and is very busy. He is exhausted. Every time he visits me, he falls asleep on the couch. I worry about him.

I also had a mammogram yesterday which went fine. We went to lunch at Ruby Tuesday and we all had the garden buffet for only $5 each. It was wonderful. I so enjoyed it.

I'm on day #4 alcohol-free. I'm still feeling very tired and my weight is back up to 200 pounds, gaining five pounds in 10 days of drinking beer. So got to lose it AGAIN. I'm tired of the yo-yo. I've got to STAY QUIT in order to continue to lose weight.

I heard something yesterday that I want to remember. If you dwell on the PAST, you will become depressed. If you worry about the FUTURE, you will be anxious. So just BE in the PRESENT MOMENT and you will find PEACE.

"Learn from me. . . . and you will find rest for your souls."

This baby crane is not really a "pet" but I was feeding him seeds and bread every day until he grew up.

I lost 10 pounds in two weeks by simply avoiding all alcohol - but then I started drinking beer again and gained back 6 pounds. Darn it ! I'm my own worst enemy. I'm so mad at myself. Now I'm on day #2 alcohol-free. Hope I can lose it AGAIN !

Tomorrow I have a mammogram in the morning and an appointment with a gastroenterologist in the afternoon. My liver is moderately enlarged so I'm going to talk to him about that. Also I found out that there is a low level of lead in my drinking water. I wonder if that can cause an enlarged liver.

I'll try to post again soon to report the results.

Valerie

My doggie, Jackson

I'm having a very quiet Memorial Day Weekend. No visitors yet - maybe my son will come over tomorrow. No alcohol on Friday or Saturday night which is a surprise. Actually I've been alcohol-free for 12 days and I've lost 8 pounds from 205 down to 197 ! I'm thrilled. I'm really losing weight. My plan is working ! My next short-term goal is to get below 195. Maybe in a couple days. We'll see.

I live in a retirement mobile home park in Florida. I've been here almost 2 years and I've been drinking almost a gallon of water out of the tap every day. Now I saw a report of the water tests and there is some lead in the water. The action limit is 15 parts per billion and the test result was 13 ppb which is "legal" but ANY amount of lead is NOT GOOD ! So I'm going to buy bottles of water tomorrow. The water is going to be turned off (we're on a private well in the park) tomorrow for inspection. Lead is usually from corrosion in the pipes. Luckily 24 bottles of water is only $1.99. At least it's inexpensive. I read that lead can cause I.Q deficits and ADHD in children and high blood pressure in adults. I did develop HBP and started taking 2 medications to control it and it's fine now but I wonder if the lead "led" to my high readings. Anyway - I'm not going to drink the water any more - unless they correct the situation.

I donated blood today. I've donated 9 gallons so far over the years - that's 72 times. Proud of myself. My hemoglobin was 12.7 which is good. I take 27 mg. of iron every day to keep my hemoglobin high enough to donate. My blood pressure was excellent 117/75. I'm on two blood pressure medications which seem to be working.

Today I ate really healthy. I had a scrambled egg with peppers and onions on a thin slice of rye toast for breakfast. When I donated blood I drank a small bottle of apple juice and ate a bag of plantains. Lunch was 2 oz. of tuna with onion, pickle relish and mayo on one slice of rye toast. I'll probably have a small bowl of cereal before I go to bed tonight. I've stayed below my calorie range for the day and I got plenty of protein.

My neighbor gave me a bunch of supplements so I'm taking them since they were free.
600 mg of Calcium with Vitamin D
1200 mg of Fish Oil
400 I.U. of Vitamin E

Feeling good.
Still alcohol-free

Yesterday I felt like this COW ! My weight was over 200 pounds ! I've gained almost 30 pounds in a year. But today, my weight is down 3 pounds to 198 ! I'm SO HAPPY to be below 200! And all because I haven't had any alcohol in 6 days ! Wow - I'm so proud of myself. I'm encouraged to stick with this plan. No alcohol. Drink Water. Walk the dog.

This is how I feel - like a "jack-ass", cuz I haven't looked at this thread since my last post which was at my birthday in MARCH, and now it's the middle of MAY ! And people posted and wished me happy birthday and everything, and I didn't even see it until NOW ! ALSO - I haven't lost any weight either ! SIGH ! I said in my previous post that I was "starting-over" but then I really didn't .
SO NOW . . . .
I'm REALLY going to "start-over". I've got 5 days alcohol-free under my belt and I'm feeling healthier already. If I skip the beer, wine, soda, etc. and stick to WATER - I'm sure I'll start losing weight. I think the first step is identifying where the main problem lies and doing something about that. For me it's ALCOHOL. Maybe for you it's ICE CREAM, or POTATO CHIPS, idk. Wherever your weakness lies. Whatever your vice. lol
I've got 3 rules for me:
l. No alcohol or soda - drink WATER, hot tea, and a little coffee.
2. Log onto SparkPeople every day.
3. Walk my dog more.

That's it. I can do this.

Happy birthday! Sounds like you're doing fine-ruts happen. You did great today. I try to take it one day at a time but in reality it's more one minute at a time still. Getting a little easier every day though.

Yesterday was my birthday and I really "pigged out". But I had a great time.

TODAY - I've been really good. No alcohol or soda. Just a banana for breakfast. An egg and toast for lunch. And veggies for dinner.

Unfortunately I didn't get any exercise. I've really got to start walking. My dog would love it.

So basically starting over again today after no progress for the past month. My weight is TERRIBLE - 200 pounds. I need to lose 40 pounds. I've done it before and I can do it again.

Happy to report that all my blood work results were within the normal range. Even all my liver enzymes and ammonia. Yay!

Today I started an exercise program. I have been so lazy for so long. I lifted 10 pound dumb bells - doing 10 repetitions and 3 sets of 5 different exercises like bicep curls, triceps, overhead lifts, etc.

THEN - I walked the dog on these hills in my mobile home park for 12 minutes. I was somewhat winded. I could have gone longer but I worry that my hips will be in pain again like last year, so I'm starting out slow.

Also - I'm alcohol-free until Valentine's Day when I want to enjoy some champagne - not too much, just a couple glasses in my new fancy flutes.

My weight is almost up to 200 pounds so I've got to GET SERIOUS, FOLKS !

My sweetheart and puppy are both very supportive and I've got a PLAN. emoticon

I was totally alcohol-free for 14 days and then enjoyed some wine when my sons and DIL visited for birthday party/lunch. Since then I've had a couple beers only a couple times per week so that's successful moderation. Unfortunately I haven't lost any weight. But I have blood work in the morning and I'm sure my results will be perfect. My blood pressure has come down to normal. YAY !

This is my son's cat named Sterling.

My dentist appointment was stressful at first until they were able to verify my insurance. Then the extraction went smoothly. I didn't feel a thing and I had no pain afterwards either.
Yay ! I still have 3 more teeth that need to come out. Next month.

I'm on Day #12 alcohol-free. Proud of myself for that. My sweetheart is on Day #1. Hope he sticks with it. I've lost only a couple pounds but it's a start.

These aren't actually MY pets (they belong to the owner of my mobile home park) but I frequently give them a treat of a raw carrot. They love them.

This morning I'm on Day #7 alcohol-free (none since NYE) and I haven't lost a pound. That's unusual for me. Usually when I abstain - the weight comes off pretty fast. Don't know what's going on but I plan on being AF for at least the month of January. Hopefully I'll start to lose some of this excess weight soon.

In addition to our Dog and Cat, we also have a cockatiel. We thought it was a "HE" until it starting laying eggs and we changed "HER" name to Greta. She's very quiet and lives on bird seed - never gaining an ounce. I've gained 20 pounds this past year. Need to get serious and lose this weight. At least I haven't had any alcohol since New Year's Eve - so that makes today Day #6 ! emoticon

It looks from this photo that our cat, Zeppelin, and our new puppy, Jackson, are getting along GREAT - but looks can be deceiving. This photo was a RARE moment that I was lucky enough to capture.

This morning, Jackson, got on to the counter and ate the cat's tuna breakfast and then started in on the Meow Mix when I realized what was going on and shooed him off. Then they were both in the screen porch and Jackson started barking for the first time. The cat was desperately trying to evade the sharp puppy teeth. Now Jackson is sitting in my new recliner. Fortunately I have it covered with a big towel.

Jacks DID do his business outside this morning which was AWESOME. He's doing very well in that department. We adopted him from the shelter 2 1/2 weeks ago and he's probably 12 weeks old now. He's definitely gotten bigger since we got him. I hope he doesn't get too big. If he keeps eating the cat food - I don't know ! lol

Our other pet - a cockatiel turned out to be a SHE when we found an egg in the bottom of the cage. We changed His/her name from Cornell to Shania !

All our pets have musical references. Jackson is named after Alan Jackson. Zeppelin obviously is named after Led Zeppelin. and Cornell was named after Chris Cornell and now after Shania Twain. We've also had a fish named MUSE. That's enough pets for now.

Have a great day !

Gave Jax his 2nd dose of deworming meds this morning. Glad he's tolerating it well.

Also Johnny has been smoking outside and Jax has stopped wheezing and having difficulty breathing (dyspnea). Thank God for that. It was really scary.

He's learned how to jump onto the bed and now Johnny isn't sleeping well with a puppy in between us. Johnny slept in the other bedroom last night. Wish we could teach Little Jackson to sleep on the floor. Will have to work on that.

A friend gave me a TON of toys and treats. The puppy doesn't play with his toys much - but he really likes chewing up the treats. I'm giving him Purina Puppy Chow in the morning and a treat or two in the evening. Seems to be working.

Trying to decide if I should put him on heartworm prevention medicine. I can't really afford it - but we live in Florida with a lot of mosquitos - so it's almost a necessity. I guess I better get a med that treats both fleas and heartworms (and maybe intestinal parasites as well). Does anybody recommend Revolution, Trifexis, Advantage Multi ? Or should I go with separate meds for fleas and heartworms? Will be talking to the vet in January when he gets a puppy booster vaccine.

Have a great day !

My new puppy, Jackson

Gave him the first dose of deworming meds this morning. My friend picked it up at the store for me yesterday. Hoping this works.

Our new puppy has been having allergy attacks - so my sweetheart has stopped smoking in the house. It's about time. Better for MY health as well. Jackson is breathing better. That wheezing was really scaring me.

I'm SO happy that this new puppy has brought me out of my FUNK. Now instead of laying in bed all day - I POP up in the morning and take him outside and then feed him and jump on SP here. YAY ! I'm doing SO MUCH Better. I even lost a pound this morning. Double YAY !

The house is eerily quiet without Big Guy. Sometimes I can hear him meow or I think I hear him. DH was doing okay until he read hte rainbow Bridge. That broke him up. It always gets me too. the other cats don't see to notice he is gone. :(

Took Big Guy to the vet yesterday and it is sad. They did blood work and he had severe diabetes. His blood sugar was 700 and his liver was failing. My concern was accurate. We decided to euthanize him as the vet said maintenance treatment would be costly and his condition was very poor. I will pick up his remains today and bury him in our pet cemetery. I miss him and I am very sad. He was 14 and had a good life with us.

I'm worried about my Big Guy. He is meowing all the time and today he was meowing at the bathroom door wanting to go in. I opened the door and he went in and laid down in the tub. He is in there crying. I do notice he has been drinking more water. I hope he doesn't have diabetes I may need to take a trip to the vet.

Last week was terrible. I started out good but it turned into a total disaster. I was just off my game for sure. I need to do better this week. I usually start my week on Sunday but the weekend was just a continuation for the previous week...BAD!!! I am starting again today. Maybe I can make it a good day. Lunch is my problem time for some reason. I eat a good lunch, but can't seem to get myself under control after I eat. I did try going outside right after lunch last week and that did seem to help so I'll try to go back to it today. The weather is not cooperating but I have a roof on my porch so I can go out and not get wet. I have a rocking chair on the porch so i can sit there for a little while and wait out the binge!!!

Boone had an accident in the house the other night. Not sure why, but it appeared to be a little diarrhea so Maybe he couldn't wait. Bless his heart he knows when he has done something bad. The cats are all doing well. BIg Guy got locked in the bathroom one night last week. He snuck into the bathroom while DH was brushing his teeth and the cat went behind the shower curtain so DH didn't see him. When I got up the next morning I heard a cat meowing and knew someone was locked in the bathroom. I let him out and he was soooo happy. Later on when i went to take my shower I found that Big Guy had pooped in the tub!!!!! Poor kitty!!! It could have been much worse.

Not much new going on. I have been trying to walk at Walmart and when I go I get in an hour of walking. that is about 10 laps around the store. I do work up a sweat so I know I am getting in good exercise. I did go outside a couple of times yesterday and that was good. i don't generally go out. I am not an outdoors person. I am really a hernit.

I did go out with DH when he walked Boone. Boone was so excited that I was out with him that he was more interested in me than he was in doing his business!!!!

Today I get my coach call. She gave me a quote the other day and I have attached it to my signature. it is the one about your approach being flexible. I live by this. I have learned not to give up by changing the way I approach my weight loss journey. If the first thing I try doesn't work then I try something else. With persistence I find the solution for me. Some techniques work for some people and others need something else. Find what works for you!!!

My healthy lifestyle journey is continuing. Some days are better than others but I find I have more "good" days than bad. Temptation is ever-present but I have weeded out the things that tempt me and "made" my DH give up certain things that I can't have that he likes. He has to help me on this journey and some things I can't resist. The things he likes are things he shouldn't be eating either so good-bye it is!! Ta-ta, so long. Out of sight out of mind.

NOt much new going on. My mom is still very needy. She calls me multiple times a day to ask me about something. If it is mail related I can't really help her becuase I can't see what is has in her hands. I tried to get all her important bills and mail sent to me but i guess I missed a few. I'll need to get phone numbers of these places and have them send me the mail from now on.

Looking for another good week. this past week went well. I am doing sparkcoach and it is helpful. I like the extra accountability.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Things have been going really well. I made up my mind on the 1st of April that I was going to make a big effort to work hard on my journey to get healthy. The first was a Monday so it was like a new start to the month and week. So far so good. No binges and my meal plan is working out well...for a change. I have gotten rid of all the trigger foods. No more temptation.

The furry family is also doing well. I love my kids and enjoy their company. they love me and I love them. Unconditional love is a wonderful thing. No matter how I feel they are always there for me. A little nose rub and a purr and all is right with the world.

Had a really good day yesterday. Stayed with my meal plan yesterday and even had 2 good snacks. Got in 50 minutes of exercise too.

My cat, Big Guy, made a big mess in the kitchen the other day. I have been putting their food bowl on the kitchen table so Boone won't eat the cat food. Well, Big Guy has a wee bit o' trouble getting up on the table. Well, he made the jump and pulled the entire tablecloth off the table. There was cat food all over the floor. The worst part was that there was a gallon jug of water that also got pulled off the table. The handle on the jug broke off and there was a gallon of water all over the floor. My floor isn't level so the water all ran downhill and mixed with the cat food. What a mess!!!! I have since started putting the cat food on the back porch where the boxes are. Everyone seems to have found the food so there should be no more magician tricks with the tablecloth!!!!!

My dog, Boone, sleeps in bed. He sleeps as long as we do. He never gets us up first. lazy dog :) We really love him.

I am doing better getting up on time. I have done it for several days in a row. Today I was awake but lingered in bed for a few snuggling with DH. We don't get much time to snuggle because of Boone taking up the room in bed. Boone doesn't like it when we snuggle because it takes up "his" section of bed. Too funny.

Hope everyone had a good Easter. Hope you all spent time with your family and had some good eats!!! emoticon

this time change has really messed me up now. I get up around 6:30 or 7. but only because I want to get on line before I go to work. If I don't get up on time I have one wet cold nose in my face and one heavy feet walking on me. 2 dogs.

Read a challenge on the Daily Spark today. It is for the month of April and is called the Rise 'n Shine challenge. Boy do I need that!!! I try not to rise!!! I set my alarm for 8 but when it goes off I turn it off and roll over for a few more hours. I don't like doing it but I do love the sleeping part. I do my best sleeping in the morning. Now that I don't have a job to go to I figure why not sleep in?? I did get up early today...6:30. I had two cups of decaf tea and started my journey on Spark. It's funny the timing of this challenge because yesterday DH and I decided that we really needed to try and get up when the alarm went off starting today. Of course I made it and when the alarm went off at 8 I went in and got him up. It took him 15 minutes to actually get out of bed, but he was up at a reasonable time.

The challenge also includes things like eating breakfast and doing exericse when you first get up. I have no problem with breakfast. It's my favorite meal of the day, but exercise when I first get up? Not happening. I need to eat first and then let the food digest before I exercise.

Haven't seen anyone else on the board. Hope all is well with everyone.

Off to a better start today. Got up at a reasonable time although it was still a little later than what I set my alarm for.

I am walking during commericals today to get my exercise in. I added an additional lap to my circuit so now I am doing 5 laps at a time. It won't take long to get in 40 or 50 minutes. I don't really do it at commerical time anymore but I still call it that. I just walk at any point during the show. During the day i don't focus much on the shows. I just have the TV on for noise. IN the evening I am more into my shows.

All my furry babies are doing well. I do love my kids. emoticon emoticon

What a lazy day. I was up early, around 5 a.m. and stayed up until 6 then I went back to bed. We ended up sleeping until 11!!!!!!!!! We didn't have breakfast until noon. After breakfast/brunch we laid back down again for a few more hours. When I talked to my mom she said she was tired today too and had stayed in bed at the nursing home and went back to bed after breakfast. Must be the weather. It is snowing here in VA and started around noon. We now have about 1-1/2" and it is suppose to snow until tomorrow morning. Boone loves the snow so he has been having a great time. Bless his heart. because we were late getting up he had an accident in the house. It wasn't his fault so I didnt' scold him. We were at fault for sure. :(

Hope everyone is doing well.

Another week passing by quickly. Progress is slow for me but I keep plugging along.

Easter will be here in another week. emoticon I remember as a kid the big Easter baskets we had. It was always so exciting to wake up Easter morning and see the basket full to over-flowing. Then of course came the egg hunt. Ours was always in the house and the eggs were hidden in the living room. The older kids got up early and found the eggs before I got up so they knew where they were when we actually began to hunt for them. The unspoken rule was you had to eat however many eggs you found. Yikes!! We were never held to that rule thank goodness. That week of course was egg salad week. Then there was church. We all had new outfits, girls with bonnets and gloves and dresses in pastel colors. The fanfare at church was beautiful. I went to an Episcopal church as a kid. Now I belong to a Pentecostal church and there is no fanfare for Easter. I do miss that.

Hope everyone is getting along fine and doing well.

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. Today everyone is a little Irish. emoticon emoticon

walked Walmart yesterday and today. I got in 45 minutes yesterday and 55 minutes today. I'm walking at a faster pace and getting in more laps in the same amount of time. I did 9 laps today. I would never have thought I'd do that many when I started walking the store.

Today was my official 20 pounds weight loss. SP said I reached it the other day when I weighed in at 228.5 but I was a half pound short. So today I am officially down to 228.!! WooHoo!! Never thought I'd lose 20 pounds. My next goal is a little one, to get to 225. That's an additional 3 pounds but then I will weight the same weight as DH. I hate weighing more than him. Since I have really cut down on the salt I have been losing more weight. I didn't realize how much salt was in the foods I was eating. My goodness!! I can't wait to go to the doc next month and see what she thinks of my weight loss. Of course their scale is different than mine and I am fully dressed so I will weigh more than I do at home. I know the truth!!! My BMI has lowered too, which is wonderful.

Hope everyone is having a sparktacular day!!!

Susan

Today is my coach call day. She calls every two weeks to see how i am doing and create action steps to work on my goals. I have been doing it for a year now and I think it helps. I believe I get more help from SP than I do my coach. The coaching service is free from my Medicare insurance through Humana.

Merlin and Earl were trouble makers yesterday. Merlin decided he was going to chase Earl through the living room. What we didn't expect was that they would go up and over the table where my DH puts his coffee. I had just filled his cup and it got knocked off the table directly into his lap!!!! The chair was covered in cover as were his pants. The cats acted like nothing happened. They had the look of, "Did I do that?" on their faces. Talk about chaos!!!!

Sapphie has been sleeping on my pillow at night. That usually ends in a pillow fight between her and BIg Guy. They hiss and swat at each other and my head is in the middle!!! Boone is in the middle of DH and I and he makes himself small when he hears the hissing. Guess he doesn't want one of those swats to get aimed at him!!!

Have a good day!!

Susan

Boone is such a lover boy. He was sitting on top of my husband today. After I had gotten up I went to get DH up and found the dog sitting on his out-stretched arm. When i went up to Boone he leaned himself back and sat on my DH's chest. It was funny to watch. Boone was acting like I was going to remove him from his warm spot. He just loves the bed. (So do I!!!)

I have been having a terrible time with my eating at lunch. I was getting frustrated with myself. I did good yesterday and kept myself in control and stayed with my meal plan...no cheating or bgining. Now if I can repeat it today it will be good. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I've been walking Walmart pretty much all this week. I've been getting in 50-55 minutes each time. Not bad. I enjoy walking the store except on the weekends. there are more people out on the weekends. During the week it is fairly quiet and i can navigate the aisles better then when there are a lot of people around. I get a little frustrated when they leave their carts in the middle of the aisle and walk away or their kids are running around popping out from an aisle as I am walking by (at a brisk pace). I try to smile and keep on walking.

My mom is now complaining about the nursing home. I knew it was only a matter of time. She has been calling me late in the evenings to complain about the nurses not addressing her needs fast enough. Now I know she is back to her normal self. When she was enjoying herself there it was questionable that she was back to normal, but now...she is her old self.

Boone had himself a good time this morning. He got crazy running through the house from the bedroom through the living room to the other side bedroom and back again. He races through the rooms and leaves scratch marks in the carpet where he spins himself around so fast. He just does this for several passes and gets all out of breath. It is funny to watch as he really runs hard!! Sometimes as he is running he'll spot a cat and he will stop long enough to bark at the cat then run some more. the cats think he is crazy. One cat, Earl, will wait and ambush the dog as he runs by. It is quite amusing.

Tonight is baked chicken night so the cats will go nuts. they love chicken, especially my Siamese.

Hope everyone has a good day and enjoys the nice weather. We're having 60 degrees today so it will be nice and warm out. WooHoo!!!

I'm late checking in today. We went grocery shopping...in the snow!! I wanted to go yesterday before the storm, but DH said, "No, we can go tomorrow." When today got here and he saw the snow he said, "Let's go tomorrow." I said, "No, we go today. That's what you said so let's go," and shopping we went. The roads were all clear, no real problem. the store was quiet which was great for my walking. I did 7 laps and walked for 50 minutes.

Are grocery prices going up? Last week I spent over $220 for just 2 of us. We did buy some meat so that was some of the cause. Then this week we spent $200 again. We usually spend $140 or around that. I did have to buy a big sack of cat and dog food and litter. that was about $40 right there. How do they expect people to survive and eat healthy? We bought a lot of fruit today...strawberries, bananas, and grapes, oh yeah, nectarines.

Finally heard from my mom today. She has a phone at last. they changed her room again and in the bargain she said, "If you change my room again get me a phone," and they did. We had a great talk. It was so nice to hear her voice and she is with the program now. Her mind is back and she sounds so strong and good. Her weight is way down. She said she was down to 97 and has gained up to 100, but that is way small for my mom. She seems to be doing well in the nursing home this time.

Uh-oh, Boone wants to play fetch!!! He just went out to pee-pee...again and now it is play time!! He is a riot. What a great pound puppy he has been. Better go play!!

Have a good night everyone. emoticon emoticon

Getting a lot done with the 15 minute de-clutter challenge. How nice my house looks with those few pick-ups. In December I came up with some "routines" for my morning that carried through the day and I made a spreedsheat to check them off as I did them. I am a visual person. I like lists and being able to check something off gives me a sense of accomplishment. I have been using my spreadhseet since Jan.1st and so far I have been on track with my chores. After that went so well I made up two sepcial routines for the kticehn. Morning routines and evening routines. now my kitchen counters and stove are in tip-top shape every day. I enjoy walking into the kitchen and am not greeted by a soiled stove top. I do need to get some new burner drip pans and that will make the stove just sparkle. I also have a nice clean microwave, no nasty splatter showing every time I open the door to cook something.

From a year ago I feel like a new person. I have never been so happy in all my life. I feel good mentally and phsyically. despite a few setbacks I just pick myself up and keep going. Never say quit!!!!!!! Babysteps and perseverance!!!!!!

I reached a goal today. I hit one of my goal weights....230!!! That makes 18 pounds lost and not to be found again!! I am not celebrating too much because I know how the scale is and I flucuate up and down so I am just happy for today.

today for lunch I tried the Boca chicken veggie patty. I really like the grilled Boca burgers so I thought I'd give the chicken a try. It was very good. I nuked it and put some lettuce, tomato, banana peppers and chipotle sauce on it. Quite tasty.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Give the "kids" lots of hugs and kisses. I love doggy kisses with Boone!!!

Today is talk to my personal coach day. I find I am having the same problems each time we talk. I had gotten better about my binges and went for a long time without having one, but recently I am back on the binge wagon. I just need to find a way to get over them. Don't know why they happen. That's the hardest part. If I knew the reason I could work on that but I don't have a "reason." I guess in some respect it may be the stress about my mom, but I don't feel stressed. Maybe I am and I'm not recognizing it.

Boone is such a good dog. he has learned to help DH up in the morning. DH has to kneel on the floor to tie his shoes and then has a terrible time getting back up. the dog has learned to go stand by his side and wait for my DH to use his back to help assist him up. DH doesn't put much pressure on Boone. It is just a steadying thing. Then Boone has learned to pick up things for DH. He drops a glove on the floor, calls Boone and the dog picks the glove up and holds it out for DH to take. He is smart!!!

Good days bad days. Will they never stop??? I ahd a great day yesterday. Stayed on track, got in some good exercise. Then today all my work went to pot. I had a miserable lunch eating anything I could get my hands on. I did get in some good exercise today so that is a positive for the day. I just wish I could get a handle on the need to eat more than is necessary.

Mom has finally agreed to go to a nursing home. She really had no choice. Her home health nurse told her that the agency would not take her back right now as she requried more care than they coujld provide and that my mom needed to go for rehab and then go home when she is stronger. Finally, someone got through to her!!!! Now if someone could get her to agree to stay there permanently.

My kids are doing great. Boone is so cute you just can't help but touch him and hug him all the time. I love it when we go to bed and he snuggles in. He gets so toasty up against my back. The kitties have been quiet this week. No crazy running spells. Although Merlin makes noises with his mouth. He looks like he is chewing something and so i say he is chewing gum!! It is funny to watch.

Hope everyone has a good evening. Hugs to all!!!

A new rat cage. I bet they are going to be happy. Bigger means more room to romp and run. When I had a bunny we had a small cage. My husband made a huge one for Thumper and when he got into it, it was like the Indy 500. He would race around that cage and really put on a show.

I had a snack attack last night and went over my calories by about 200. I gained a pound from yesterday. Could be fluid. I will try to do better today. had a good breakfast. Breakfast is always my best meal and my favorite meal. I could eat breakfast food all three meals.

Tonight is homemade chicken nuggets. I dip them in chipotle sauce. They are really good that way. I love the homemade nugget as I know what is in it. I use chicken breast and put panko bread crumbs on them. they cook up nice and crunchy. My husband cuts the chicken in strips.

give all the "kids" a big hug. Have a sparklin' day!!

Good morning all!

Last week was a little rough, I have a terrible head cold and I just can't seem to shake it. Although I haven't worked out as much as I would have liked I have gotten some in. It is just so hard when you are congested! Heck it is hard to even eat without sufficating!
I did lose 1.5 lbs so that is good! my current total is 17lbs and I couldn't be happier!
Today we are suppose to be getting our new rat cage and I am super excited! It is HUGE! My rats are gonna be so happy! Also the cats and dogs will like it because the bottom level is at their height so they will be able to watch the rodents play!
Well I guess it is time to get off the computer and get to work!
Enjoy your week and as I tell my kids, make good choices! Keep Sparking!

Cherie

I am pleased that this week has gone so well. It started out rough but I kept my promise to myself to get back on track. The exercise challenge this week kept me moving with a goal in mind. I've seen scale victories and got myself good snacks. I tried the Spcial K pastry crisps...a little on the sweet side, but only 100 calories and good when i want something sweet. i can have the snack without busting my meal plan. Also tried the Fiber One chocolate cereal with 9 gms of fiber in the serving. It is really good and tastes like a brownie with milk. Did I mention this before??? Please forgive me if I did.

The kids are quiet today. Daddy has been working outside and Boone is stuck in the house. he is sulking on the bed. The cats are all sleeping, seom on the bed, one in the recliner...MY recliner, and one behind the computer.

Hope everyone has a great, sparklin' day!! Do something for yourself!!!! I think tonight I will soak my feet in lavendar water.

My scale is going in the right direction. I am back down by 17 pounds. I am looking to get to 230. That will be a great victory. I hate weighing more than my DH. He is around 227 and I hope to get to that point. I have been minding my business the past few days and it shows on the scale.

I love it when my cats are frisky. I love to watch Merlin ambush everyone else. he thinks he is hiding but he is right out in the open. he tries to squish himself into a small size, but at 21 pounds that's impossible!! Ha, ha. It is funny to watch. Buttons loves Boone and she walks right under his nose and rubs against him. then in the next breath she is swatting him. She leads him on!!! What a vixen!!!!!!

Mom is still confused. She says she is going home on Monday as her blood pressure is too low so the doc is keeping her. My sister and the pastor think I should move her out of the apartment so she has no place to be discharged to. i can't bring myself to do that to her. If the doc says she can go home who am I to "evict" her from her apartment? My mom would be furious if I got rid of her stuff without her approval. I don't think I can legally do that.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Hug your pets.

I'm getting back on track too. Followed my eating plan this week, even went to Subway for dinner one day and chose from their healthy menu. Did have some donuts one day, but got right back on plan, it didn't throw me off.

I made a big pot of veg bean soup earlier in the week, and we've been having that for dinner several times. Recipes with lots of leftovers help with the meal planning.

Bravy, one of our older kitties (turns 16 soon), was feeling kittenish this morning. He wanted somebody to play with him and flirted with me, trying to get me to play. He has an old flip flop of mine that he loves to death. He likes it when you softly "beat" him with the shoe. I did that and he went nuts, jumping all over, grabbing the shoe and kicking it. Then I went and got Henry and told Bravy to get him, the games began. Bravy chased him, grabbed him, and they wrestled a while. Made Bravy a happy kitty.

Boone was under the weather yesterday. He vomited up a hairball. I didn't know dogs got hairballs. I thought that was strictly cats. He does lick himself a lot so I guess it was inevitable. Of course after he got sick he was babied. We made a fuss over him being sick and he soake dit right up. All that attention for a little dog!!! My gosh. We do spoil him rotten. He has taken to sleeping on my electric throw by the side of my chair. Sometimes he shares the spot with my cat Buttons. They sleep right next to each other. I just love my critters.

I think I am back on track. I did pretty good yesterday and am hoping for a repeat today. I foudn a new cereal I like. It is the Fiber One chocolate flavor. It has only 80 calories in a 3/4 cup serving and it has 9 gms of fiber. I didn't like the original Fiber One but the chocolate one is like eating a brownie with milk. Yum!!! I enjoyed it with my Almond milk.

Hope everyone has a sparklin' day!!!!

Susan

Did manage to get in a little exercise yesterday...20 minutes. I felt better after doing it. With this week's challenge I need to do 30 mintues a day so that will really be a challenge for me. I may need to do it in several increments. Silly me took out a jump rope that i had and thought I would try it. Ha, ha, ha. emoticon What was i thinking?? There is no way I can jump rope. I got it behind me and assumed the position. Nothing happened!! I couldn't twirl the rope over my head. It was a funny sight. I had a good laugh at myself and put the rope back on the shelf. I'll stick to the treadmill.

I didn't do as well with my eating yesterday as I hoped, so today is another new day and I will try harder to stick with my meal plan. I did skip the main part of my dinner meal last night and ate only freggies. I got carried away at lunch so I thought it was best to skip the carb and heavy protein.

Boone got into the cat food again eysterday adn ahd diarrhea so I moved the cat food bowl. Some of the cats were lost after I moved it so I had to show everyone where the bowl was. Now they seem okay with the chande and have adjusted. I am more concerned that Boone doesn't get into it. He loves cat food. We're weaning him off the puppy chow and adding in the adult food. I am using the Purina healthy life. He doesn't seem to notice.

Hope everyone is having a good day. No mail today :(

I love to see the lion cut. My sister does that for one of her cats. I can see the kitty getting frisky now. They are funny when they get excited. My BIg Guy loves the carrier too. When i take it out for one of the others he gets right in and lays down. The other cats hate it and run from it when they see it. It is always fun when I have to take all of them to the vet at the same time. I have a kitty chorus going on in the car.

My mom is still confused. She says they put her in a "Chinese" bed. Not sure what that is suppose to be but she insists she is in one. They stopped her antibiotic today and have been supplementing her electrolytes. She said the cardiologist said her heart is very weak. I know the report I got about her heart the other day was very poor. I imagine she will be going to a nursing home some time this coming week. She will refuse but she is in no condition to go home.

I am still struggling with getting back on track. I had a problem at lunch yesterday eating snacks. I made the mistake of making some Velveeta and salsa dip on Friday with Tostito's scoops. i've never had that dip before but I see the commercials for it and had a weak moment when shopping on Friday and so I bought the ingredients. OMG!!! The dip is great. DH liked it too. A little spicy for me but it was good. Now the snacks are gone so I may have better success at not snacking with bad stuff. I am just hoping to get through lunch. That is my bad time for some reason. Generally I do great at breakfast and dinner.

Hope everyone has a good day. happy Sunday!!!!!

Glad to hear your Mom's doing well enough to be moved to a regular room. What a stressful week.

My week wasn't so great either, but getting better. Didn't stick to my eating plan like I should, but I'm working on getting back on track. Exercise has been hit or miss, since the drug rash caused some swelling of my legs. The rash and swelling are greatly improved so I'm getting back to the exercise as well as my eating plan.

My husband took our long haired kitty, Toby, for a haircut this week, something we do every few months. Toby hates his long hair and pulls it out when it gets too long. We take him in for a lion cut, a real short cut with a "mane" and a pouf on the end of his tail. He loves it and gets frisky afterward. Before they left my husband put the cat carrier out. Toby, Bravy and Cosmo saw it and left. Henry, for some reason, loves the carrier. He got in and laid down and wouldn't get out. We had to drag him out of it to put Toby in for his ride to the groomer. Silly Henry ! There's a picture on my page of Henry sleeping in the carrier.

Have a nice Sunday.

Miracles do happen. My mom has improved greatly. They moved her back to a regular room today. She's not happy about it. he's fussing. She called me at 7:30 a.m. to complain and ask for someone's phone number. She does not remember anything that happened to her. If I try to tell her she will argue with me and say I am making it up so I don't bother telling her what has happened. She did say that she knows the doc will say she needs to go to a home and she is not going. That isn't going to happen. She HAS to go somewhere as she is not strong enough to go home, not this time. Her neighbor is tired of taking care of her cat so she is trying to get rid of it. She does not have the authority to get rid of my mom's cat. I did ask someone else to take care of the cat. I am hiring a cleaning service to clean her apartment. I hope they will clean up the poop. I don't know their rules. they are going out Tuesday to give me an estimate. It has been a difficult week.

My week has been out of control. I talked with my personal coach yesterday and she helped me get in touch with/explore my feelings that were fueling my bad behaviors and I think I've got them under control now. I am hoping that today will be a good day.

How is everyone else doing? Hope all is going well for everyone.

Well, things have been touch and go with my mom. The doc asked me to call him yesterday and I did only to get the news that my mom was in "grave" condition. they transferred her to a monitored bed as her temp spiked to 103 and her heart rate was very fast. (That is normal with an elevated temp.) She was not responding to the antibiotics. the doc said all her major organs were shutting down and failing. HE said she had had another heart attack, her kidneys were failing, she had pneumonia and her brain was failing. What a grim picture. So i started making plans to make the trip to CT as I felt she was dying. I made my plans for my animals and started packing. I called the CCU in the evening to check on my mom and the nurse said she was doing "fine." What????? Four hours ago she was on her deathbed!! It seems she was responding to the new antibiotic and her condition was improving so I put my travel plans on hold. My mom remains VERY confused. She is calling out all day and the hospital has provided her with a sitter. When I checked in this morning she was still doing better. She has no fever and she is making urine again. do things are still on hold. I am thinking i will need to be going up there to place her in a home permanently. I don't think she will be able to return home again after this hospitalization.

I have not been dealing real well. I have been eating more than my share and not exercising. I am hoping today with the better news I will get back on track. I will try to do at least 10 minutes of walking on the treadmill. I was really worried about kenneling Boone. I didn't think he would do well and would have separation anxiety and possibly get depressed. Without his daddy he would be lost.

Of course I still have a problem with getting my mom's apartment cleaned. According to the neighbor there is stool all over the place. I may call some cleaning services and see if they will do it.

Hope everyone is doing well. have a great day.

Susan

Oh FELINA - sorry to hear about your reaction. Hope it clears up without too much problem. I recently found on the 88 cent aisle at Walmart some hydrocortisone cream with benadryl in it. I use the Benadryl cream but I can't take the pill form due to my eyes.

I had a terrible day yesterday. Mom being back in the hospital is weighing on my nerves. I gave in to some emotional eating. i kept getting calls from family wanting info and answers to their questions about my mom's condition. I had not yet spoken to my mom and was waiting until after the doc made rounds. I finally called my mom early and she was totally out of it. She answered the phone saying, "please help me. Please help me. I'm so tired, I'm miserable. Please help me." She just kept repeating this over and over. She didn't even know who she was talking to. I finally got her to understand it was "Susie" and she began begging more for me to help her. i felt terrible as there was/is nothing I can do for her. I did speak to the doc about her placement after the hospital and he said there was nothing he could do as she refuses to go to the nursing home or to live with me. He said, "Until something significant or disastrous happens" he can't do anything. that leaves me at a loss. My hands are tied. I found out today that they have my mom in a net bed. That is a bed covered with a net so she can't get out. She is a fall risk and I guess she kept trying to get out of bed. How heart breaking for her. Being held captive. I know it is for her benefit but it is still upsetting. My response yesterday was to binge and I binged good. At the time I wanted some comfort but the food didn't work. It only made me feel worse after I ate it all. I am at such a loss.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Ugh ! This is not a good day. I'm having a skin reaction to a drug, most likely aspirin. Started last night within a couple hours of taking my usual evening pills. I've had this same rash before, to anti inflammatories, Celebrex and glucosamine, so I know what it is and the nasty course it will take - the skin will eventually blister and peel off. We went right out to the store at 11 last night to get some benadryl and cortisone cream, same treatment from before. Now I have to stop all my pills and reintroduce them one at a time so I can pinpoint the cause. The only one I won't put back in is the aspirin since that's the most likely culprit. Not sure how much exercise I'll get since the Benadryl leaves me groggy. GRRRRRRRR
