Henry, our youngest kitty, has decided that the best way to get my attention is to nibble on my toes. When he's hungry he goes straight to my toes and starts nibbling. Even when I'm in the process of filling his plate he'll do it. I end up dancing around the kitchen trying to keep my toes away from him !
He also does it in the morning when he wants me to get up. He'll jump on the bed and nibble right through the sheets ! Doesn't hurt, he does it lightly, just to get my attention. It actually tickles. He doesn't do it to my husband, only me.

Thank you a million for your encouragement. I can always count on my Spark friends to help put things back in perspective. I'm feeling better and hoping to feel good enough to go out on the jet ski by myself today.

Walked again this morning. Very proud of myself for walking 3 times while on vacation and I plan to walk again tomorrow before we leave. I've also done good with my eating - and that's hard on vacation with an Italian family that makes a new desert every day.

I'm missing my puppies this week. We're on vacation. But my sister-in-law's family brought their family dog and he is the most pathetic thing in the world. I've never seen a dog so attached to it's humans.

I saw a picture of myself that my husband had taken and I've been struggling with it ever since. I thought I was doing good, because i had lost 13lb, but after seeing that, it's hard to have hope.

But I am proud of the 3 mile walk I took this morning with my husband.

I spoke to the lady that brought my dog Honey to me. Let me start by saying that we had a 20 min. conversation and she never stopped laughing . I started by telling her that I had managed to totally untrain Honey. She no longer hides in her kennel . the whole house is hers and if there is a bug, well it is her job to catch. She jumps in the air and chases it down. She now has taken over my bed and at times when the front door is open, She runs in and out. She still doesn't sit or down on comand , but she does come when she is called ( sometimes) She rolls in anything she can find, Horse manure, cow manure, mud and proudly comes to me for my inspection. However she is good about standing to be hosed off before she can come inside. She has finally stopped jumping in the coy pond now that she has her own kiddy pool. However all things considering, she brought me my perfect dog. She is loving and funny and ever so protective and very loyal and has learned to read me so well. She knows when I'm hurting and when I'm sad and she lays her head on my shoulder to let me know that is there for me. Some animals are like little people in fur and arnt we glad they are in our life.

there's nothing quite as heart-wrenching as losing a furbaby, second place is hearing stories thereof. sorry for all your losses, callie and rocky et al. I was also torn to bits when my afrika died of a kidney tumor at age 9, and he looks just like rocky, tabby with a white chin. oh he was so funny. greetings my boy, and sorry I was so stupid and didn't recognize your dilemma in time.

What a wonderful story ! Callie and your new dog are both special. And I agree, I think some pets come to us for a reason. It's happened to me also.

In 1993 I lost my job (I was an RN) due to severe back problems resulting in chronic severe pain. I loved that job and expected to stay there until I was old enough to retire. I was devastated and depressed. I felt lost and not needed. Six months later friends gave us a kitten they couldn't keep. We bonded instantly. Rocky followed me everywhere, slept with me every night, sat on my lap every time I watched TV. He loved to play chase or hide and seek with me. He gave me back that feeling of being needed and brought me out of my depression.

As it turned out he needed me as much as I needed him. Not long after he turned a year old he developed epilepsy, a rarity in cats. He had frequent grand mal seizures and needed meds twice a day for the rest of his life. He died at the age of 9 after a short but very busy life. He went everywhere with us, he loved riding in the car and walking on a leash. He used to startle people in Petsmart when he'd walk up to them or reach down from one of the cat trees on display and touch them on the head.

I've always thought of him as an angel sent to help me out of my depression and he left because his job was done. He changed me and will always be a part of me.

I haven't been on here for awhile since my Cattle dog Callie passed away. So here I am here again. Right after she left, I couldn't sleep one night. I found myself on the website Resue Cattle dogs Texas. I didn't know why, but there I was looking. This was October. Well November I found myself on the Cattle dog Breeder site, still didn't know what I was looking for. All of a sudden, I saw what I was supposed to find. My sweet Callie had led me to a 4 yr old Cattle dog they were looking a forever home. She was raised inside, but the guys wife had thrown her outside for the last two yrs. When she did come inside, she was put into a kennel, she didn't even know how to play. The lady that had taken her was looking for someone who needed her as much as she them. Well she brought her to me and I know why I had to get this dog. It seems that Callie needed a new body. Yep that's what I said. My Callie is visiting me from time to time using Honey's body. She sleeps on the pillow, where Callie used to sleep, scratches her back where Callie used to and we know without question that it is my Callie visiting. This dog makes me laugh everyday and I know she was heaven sent by my sweet angel Callie After 15 yrs of raising her, she knew my heart and sent me another angel to love. I'm so glad I listened to her

LOL, that's probably why they don't suffer from things like depression, anxiety or overwhelming stress. I like the saying, 'deal with stress like a dog; if you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away.'

I came home from work today and found both my dogs in the middle of the road. My big dog got out but my smaller dog just stood there in the middle looking at me. I got them in the house then tried to find where they had escaped from. They had moved the under pinning from a spot next to the dog house and came out on the other side of my trailer. so now I have 2 escape artists.

We taught both of our dogs to walk on the treadmill. However one of them only has three legs. But she does just fine on a lower pace. Even though she does fine, she still doesn't like it. In fact we us a leash to attache them to the treadmill when they are walking so they don't jump off and go lay down instead. Recently my husband and I discovered that the three legged dog hopps to one side and puts one leg on the side and hops on two legs. When she gets tired, she hops to the other side and does it on the other side. Today I caught her hopping toward the front, so she could 'rest' her single front leg. Then as I was 'walking' the dogs one morning I suddenly heard the treadmill turn off, so I ran to her 'rescue' thinking something was wrong. She apparently had taught herself to kick the plug in the outlet until it comes out. She did it several more times and we finally had to switch outlets, so she can't reach it anymore. A couple days later as she was walking I realized I only heard the treadmill motor and not her tapping feet, so I ran to her 'rescue' again. She had managed to get her leash off and was waiting for me in the doorway as happy as can be.

long time no posts, so i'll just start in on another topic.

the trouble with having two guinea pigs is when one dies, the other is left alone.
so the left-over brother pigasus didn't show himself or eat for three days. enough already, I got him a new little hamlet.
six months later, pigasus had a stroke and died.
little hamlet however was fine alone, couldn't find him company so I kept him.
now, three years later, I found him company, but he got mobbed, so I didn't leave him there. but the breeder-lady fell in love with him and wanted him to become papa for her babies, so I succumbed and brought his new bride-to-be (fay) to live with us.
now, over two months later, hamlet is more pregnant than his wife.
will there ever be babies? doesn't look like hamlet knows his business!

I agree 110% animals know what they want and they know how to tell you! My beagle Mollee thinks that anytime someone comes in the house they should give her a treat! She knows people don't always comes with treats of their own, so she jumps up by their legs and then runs to the kitchen and barks at the refrigerator! Most people fall for the trick so we had to get much smaller treats so she doesn't get too much fatter! The other dogs and cat don't mind this trick either, they know our family and friends don't play favorites!

We never know how smart out furry friends really are until they do things. One time i had bought a bag of Bonze for Callie. I offered her a peanut butter bone and she went over to the table and brought back the bag of Bonze. She would bring you something that you might want just so I would give her a treat. Then I had a horse that would bring you his bucket if he saw anybody with a can. He thought all cans had beer in them and he wanted some. My yearling stuck his head in the door of the bar at the astrodome and nickered to the bar keeper. The bar keeper just laughed. I told him that he was ordering a beer.Yes I talk to my animals and they talk to me. One night lightning hit a tree close to the barn. When I walked in the barn the next morning, all of the horses were telling me what had happend . I always tell people that there are no dunb animals just dumb owners

That's really smart, she knows where the goodies are !

I think talking to our pets really brings out their intelligence. I know we talk to our cats all the time and they definitely understand certain words. Cosmo loves going for a walk with my husband, he's harness and leash trained. All we have to do is ask him if he wants to go for a walk and he gets super excited, racing my husband to the kitchen, since that's the door they go out. He usually will poke his head right into the harness when you hold it open for him, then can hardly stand still while you click it closed.

Crazy, dogs always know where their treats are. My Angie if asked what do you want or where is it she'll lead you right to the buffet where they're kept and glance at the box and then back at you until you get the hint. Smart, smart, smart!

Felina, that is unbelievable that you Cosmo can open your kitchen door. Oh my goodness. What a video that would make!

They're a lot smarter than we usually give them credit for.

Another example -
Cosmo knows how to open our kitchen door, the inside heavy door. He gets up on the counter next to the door, leans down, wraps his paws around the doorknob and pulls. If the door isn't shut tight he can pull it open. Then he jumps down so he can look out the storm door.

Felina, they're just like us humans. You take away something they can't have and they want it more than anything. I think I'd probably do the same. They're just portraying what we do all the time.

Crazy, you know we don't always give our babies all the credit they rightfully deserve. They're smarter than we think and make it very apparent when they understand more than we give them credit for. ;)

Mr. Spot the Wonder Dog is such a character!

DS is stationed in Fairbanks Alaska and we do get to skype with him. We skyped with him on Sunday evening prior to his leaving on a mission. What a wonderful treat to actually see him!

He really wanted to see John, so I held him in my lap so John could see him as we skyped. Every time he'd say, "Hi Spottie!" Spot would cock his head to the side and look around for where John was! "I hear his voice! Where is he???" JOhn enjoyed it. That's the most important.

Cosmo is on a special diet, has been for almost 3 years. He developed FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease) in early 2010 after the death of his feline best friend, Charlie. One of the causes of FLUTD is stress, and losing his buddy was very stressful for him. Since then he's only allowed to eat prescription food, and he prefers dry food, so much so that we have to keep any bag of dry food out of his reach or he'll bite thru the bag and devour it, regardless of whether it's his special food or not.

Well, yesterday, my husband made the mistake of leaving a bag of regular, non Cosmo food on a shelf in the garage. When I went thru the dining room door to the garage Cosmo raced past me into the house and I saw Henry hiding around the bathroom door, peeking at me. I turned the light on and there was the bag of food, what was left of it, ripped to shreds, with dry food all over the basement floor ! Henry came out of hiding and "helped" me clean it up by eating some pieces. Mo came back and wanted to help too but held back, he knew he was in trouble. He was excited about what he did, and started racing all over the house.
Ornery little butt !

Oh my goodness! Despite your best efforts, Felina, they will find where you hide things. They're just like kids. Well they are our kids! What a stitch!

I bought a scratching toy for a friend's cat for Christmas and stowed it in my closet. We have 2 just like it that our cats go crazy over (on my page there are a couple of pictures of it with Cosmo and Henry sitting on it). Anyway, the other day my husband found Henry half in and half out of the closet, he had found the toy. My husband said he looked like he was wondering why "his" toy was in the closet. Later that same day I caught Henry in the closet, sitting on the toy and playing with the mouse toy I also bought for my friend's cat. He thinks both new toys are his !

You just never know what these babies of ours are going to do next, do you?

I can always come to this team and wind up putting a smile and sometimes laugh into my moments here. I can always walk away from this team feeling better than when I get here.

Thank you all for your sharing and for your comical stories relating to your furry members of your families! I love them.

I gave Cosmo and Henry mani pedi's yesterday. Cosmo hates it but cooperates most of the time, especially if Henry is nearby. Henry was laying nearby in the dining room when I did Cosmo yesterday. As soon as I finished he strolled up to Henry and sat on him. A wrestling match resulted. When they finished I grabbed Henry and did his nails. When I put him down, he did the same thing Cosmo did, walked up to Cosmo, jumped on him and started a wrestling match.

Oh boy! What a surprise that must have been. You're going to have to cure her of that as quickly as possible. What a momma you are to be so sympathetic to her!

My dear sweetHoney has a new nick name Cow Paddy. She came back in ,the house monday evening. I touched her and she was wet, not with water, Cow manure. That's right, she found a pile of manure and rolled in it, and she was sooo proud of herself and couldnt understand why i wasnt impressed. Needless to say, she got her first bath emoticon emoticon

Pat, there are times I truly feel that my yellow lab has instructed my chocolate lab, especially when she was a little pup. You know, like the yellow lab was the mom and the chocolate was the baby teaching her what to do to make us happy. Just a gut feeling.

Love how your pup took over a lot of Callie's qualities. Yes, I believe they make a point of being a part of your current dog's lives by instructing them in ways that make you happy cuz they know first hand. ;)

You know if you give your dog a chance they do come back with things that will constantly amaze you. It's like a second sense they have. They know what you need a lot of times before you even do. What a wonderful story in that she helps you get out of bed every morning. She's become your lifelong friend and buddy and you'd be lost without her.

Apparently the shelter people knew you'd be the best match for her and they apparently were right.

Very warm and touching story and it came straight from your heart! I'm glad to hear that she's filling that huge void in your life that Callie left when she parted from you. It's great to hear that you'll have her for at least another 10 years.

God bless you for having shared this with all of us! ;)

When my Callie passed on to meet my son at Rainbow Bridge, I woke up around 2 am and could not go back to sleep. I jumped on my computer to the Cattle dog rescue site and looked at the dogs there. Didnt know what i was looking for, but i kept looking.. For some reason i had to keep looking. Then i went to a breeder site and there she was. She was local and they were looking for a special person for Honey. I talked to the lady and she got back to me about a week later and told me that i had been chosen. I cried like a baby. The lady evan brought her to me. Now I am getting to the good part.Just last week, twice I saw my Callie. She was using Honeys body to come check on me, it was almost unbelievable , but there she was, looking back at me just for a moment.. It was the most heart warming thing i could have had happen to me. It let me know that i had done exactly what my Callie wanted me to do. Open my heart and let another friend in. At this time in my life, a dog is more than a pet, she is a companion and she e makes me a better person. She makes want to get out bed, even when i hurt and dont feel like it. I eat healthy so i can be there for her. She makes me laugh and laugh, oh she makes me laugh and that is so important for someone 71 yrs old and alone. She is 4 yrs old so i can look forward to about 10 yrs with her. My Callie was 15 yrs old when she passed

Pat, first off, I know how one can not replace another ..... NEVER. They're all different but it sounds like this one is finally warming up to you. Nothing like being a loyal friend to you. Nothing like it at all. It's always tough when you lose one. I lost my yellow lab which was our first dog we've had since she was a brand new puppy. She'll always have a special place in my heart and I will never forget her. We got Angie after her who is a chocolate lab and very small for her age. She's going on 6 but you'd never know it. She still acts like a newborn pup with all the energy you can imagine. They are totally different from one another. My yellow was a loving dog but knew her place. This chocolate is more wild, has a hunting instinct in her and has become a lap dog and more because of her size. Love them both but they are soooooo different from one another, it's amazing.

Can't live without the animals in my life and I can understand how tough it is when you loose one of your family. I had a really hard time bouncing back from my yellow going on to Rainbow Bridge. I think I was down for the count for at least 6 months. I lost a job because of it and I could not get her out of my mind. She was the first pup we had and I think that had a lot to do with it. She also left us way too young. She was 9.5 which is really young for a lab.

Didn't know it but she had kidney disease and she just literally starved herself to death cuz she couldn't eat. It was horrible. We put her down which was the hardest thing we ever did. Miss her to this day but am glad I've got a great group of animal lovers here who will still help me through this to this day.

Thanks all. :)

But I've got my chocolate here and she's sooooo loving, it's almost as if my yellow told her how to act to get through to us. I truly believe that. ;)

In my little girls defence, id have to say she has a good reason to be pissed off. In the past month, she has been taken from the only home she has ever known, taken somewhere she has never been, to a new owner To the vet to be spayed. If someone did that to me , well lets say we would be a little ticked off too. She stayed on the recliner for 3 weeks before she came to lay next to me on the loveseat. The Cattle dog is a very loyal dog once they bond and you have to allow them the time and space to do so. These dogs are so smart and must have a job to do. If you dont give them a job, they will find one and it might not be what you want them to do. I have owned a Cattle dog before. I just lost my little Callie after 15 years and know and respect the breed. Not just anyone can own a Cattle dog, they own you. If are so lucky to be honored with theiir presence, you have a very loyal friend for life. She is just starting to show her true self and she makes me laugh everyday. That is her job and she is doing a fine job. I am so glad she has come into my life. We needed each other and I did not get her to take my Callie s place, that is impossable. she is filling a void in my life. and making her own space. Getting to know each other is going to be a hoot if the past month is a good example. ,Oh we dont do cows ether , those things are better left to Ginger *( the Australlian shepard) to take care of. She bailed the first time she saw one. She said (Oh hell no) and i had a talk with her to remind her that she was a Cattle dog, I am not getting anywhere with that one yet.,just alot of laughs.

PatKeefe, uncanny how animals can have personalities if you just take the time to notice. My dog when we got her as a baby would literally jump onto the back of the couches .... just like a cat would do. And she would balance, never had a problem staying put where she was. It was unreal. I had never seen anything like that.

Dogs do have attitudes and it sounds like yours has an issue. I think it's more an issue of resentment. Glad I don't have those problems with my baby. She is just precious. She was a lot like yours when she was a puppy but she has become a lover. Friends say that she isn't even a dog .... she's human! They also said she would have had wonderful puppies if she hadn't been spayed before we even got her and we got her when she was 8 weeks old. In the beginning, she was really skittish .... a lot like a horse would be. You couldn't go near her to pet her .... she would run away. Only when she wanted to petted could it be done. Glad she's not like that anymore. Think it's her breed though. She's a chocolate lab and I really think it's cuz she's got the "hunting" blood in her. She actually caught two mice in her very young days. Isn't that what cats are supposed to do????? :)

Felina, I would think that it would be typical behavior of male ANYTHING to act that way .... not just cats. They're all about getting to know you ..... whatever breed! ;)

Your Cattle dog does sound like he has a feline personality !

I've had female cats like that. The males we've had seem less fussy. We once had a female who absolutely adored and owned my husband. When we'd come home from vacation she'd wait at the front door, greet me sweetly, then sit and wait for hubby. As soon as he'd walk in the door she'd turn around, put her tail in the air and walk away. She'd snub him until he'd make a big fuss over her.

Our males don't do that. They get excited and flirty whenever we come in, very friendly, always glad to see us.

oK cat people, i dont have a cat, but a Cattle dog has a cat like personality. What do i mean by that Well you dont own a Cattle dog, they own you, You pet them when they allow, and snub you when they dont, and you are lucky they will allow you to enjoy their presence. Right now she is mad at my caregiver. She took her for her spaying monday and Honey has not had anything to do with her since, She wont come out of her kennel and she wont go outside. She left a little gift in the dinning room last night. as soon as the door closes when goes home, Honey comes out. Does anything sound familiar to you cat people? emoticon

We bought a new lamp for the living room that came in a big box that I gave to Cosmo. He likes "caves". I turn the box on it's side, put a blanket in it and partially close the flaps. Cosmo takes long naps inside. Last nite he was in there, sound asleep, and Henry came along and decided he wanted the box. He got in with Mo and they started wrestling. The box flaps closed and all you could see was the box bouncing all over like crazy. Eventually Mo came out and Henry sat at the entrance to the box, all proud of himself for rousting Cosmo. Henry didn't even stay in there, just wanted Mo out ! Little devil !

My poor dog, P.J. The vet put "the cone of shame" on him to keep him from chewing on his tail. All the cats think it's funny to tease him. They walk up and sniff his nose then walk behind him and whack him on the behind, then they run knowing he can't get to them with the cone on. emoticon

Have you seen that commercial that shows that cat that's lying down on the floor and one of those remote type vacuums come by and he goes to swat it and it changes its course???? I laugh at that every time I see it!

They just wrestle and chase each other all over the place. They do it all the time. Henry's usually the instigator. He'll walk up to Cosmo and start washing him and just as Mo starts enjoying it Henry will give him a little bite and the wrestling match will begin. Braveheart starts stuff too. He'll be laying in the living room and one of the others will walk by and Bravy will reach out and pull a back leg out from under him, tripping him. That always starts a wrestling match too.

My cats are a little nutsy about having things put on them. That's my fault. I'm always throwing things on them. One of their favorite things is to have a sheer scarf thrown over their head. I have several old see thru scarves that I've kept for them. I'll toss one on a kitty head and he'll think he's hiding and sit real still. Another will come along, see him, and either jump on him or be jumped on by the one under the scarf. Then the wrestling and chasing will begin.

A few years ago I bought neckties for 2 of our cats. Really silly. I saw them at Target and couldn't resist. They're white collars with neckties attached. It was around Easter and I put them on 2 of my cats just before my Mom walked in. She thought it was hysterical. I have pictures on my Spark page of the 2 of them in their ties. They never tried to take them off.

Iíve been behind in my connections here so Iíve combined your last two entries CatLady into one response. As I say, ďLife Got In The WayĒ. I had to work on my Fantasy Football leagues (2 of them) that are due to have their draft within the week and Iíve had a problem with my computer in that it has slowed up immensely and Iím trying to figure out why. On top of that, my stupid cell phone battery wonít hold a charge and I am determined to prove that it is not the battery by charging it. Iíve been charging it since last Monday. Itís looking like Iím going to have to buckle under and either pay $44 for another battery or look into getting a new phone. Iíve got Sprint and I am sooooooo disgusted with that company, you have no idea.  Sick of having these problems where my phone doesnít work and, thusly, is affecting my business immensely as my business depends on my phone for 95% of the activities. Anyways, in addition, I also am helping a fried of mine to come up with a nicer looking menu for a bar she works at. Needless to say, Iíve been pretty busy. But I apologize to you and to the rest of the team here for not having been here as of late. 

Picked up Boone from the clinic at 7:30 this morning. He did fine. all the people there loved him and said you would never know he had surgery.
**** What a sweetie. Thatís what puppies do. They just bounce back as if it never happened. It is tough to keep them still now while they recuperate so I know you have your hands full with that. I found that just loving them is the best way to keep them still.

Boy is that the truth!!! We crated him when he got home so he won't be so active. He has to be quiet for 7-10 days.

He is bleeding a little today but they said that was normal. I'll keep an eye on it.
**** Poor baby. Iím sure itís nothing but if he does bounce off the walls wanting to play, it could be an issue.

My husband is glad to have his buddy back. Things were much too quiet last night. No nap buddy yesterday :(.
**** Itís amazing how your lives change when you have them in your lives. I agree and know exactly what you mean by that. When theyíre not there, the house is sooooooo empty. When I take Angie in for her baths, itís really not the same. We both miss her so much when sheís gone. Itís such a joy when she returns.

The cats were in their glory.
**** Iíll bet! They had the rule of the house! ;)

Everything was back to normal as far as they were concerned!!! Now they will have to get used to the way things are with a dog!!! We got his rabies certificate corrected to read "altered male" and got his license on the way home. Now he is legal!! Glad to have him home!!!
**** Woo Hoo! Youíve got a legit doggie now. Heís all yours!

Boone is doing well after his surgery. We are suppose to keep him calm for 10 days. That is not happening!!!! He is as active as he ever was. he acts like nothing happened. He doesn't know he had surgery.
**** Itís tough to keep them down when they feel alright. They donít understand. But you know, if heís ok and heís not showing any signs of distress, you should be ok. Just keep a real close eye on him til that timeframe passes.

he finally ate some regular food last night. he had two little portions and drank a good amount of water.
**** Thatís a good sign. Heís doing well and heíll be back to norm before you know it.

He did sleep a good part of the day (we did too!!). We all were piled in the bed all day AND all night. Yes, we let him sleep in bed during the night too.
**** We donít believe in doing that with our dogs but, when Angie had that surgery on her nose when she had a growth that appeared as if it showed up overnight, she came home with Morphine in her and she was totally out of it. Iím sure she saw double, maybe even triples of us, so we made an exception that night to let her now that we were there for her. She never went back to her crate and she has settled in quite well with going to bed with us at night. First time, ever, since weíve been married that weíve allowed our dogs to sleep with us. But she is such a joy and she is soooooooo good. Our others were too but they never got the chance to sleep with us like Angie has.

The cats are not happy to see him back!! They were all happy on Thursday when he wasn't' here. they were out and about as usual. Once Boone came home they all went into hiding again. Oh well, they all have to get along!!!!!
