Yes, Robin. We are SO glad that you went ahead and had this procedure. I, too, hope they don't find your polyp had cancer or pre-cancer. But, even if they do, it is no longer there to hurt you later! Thanks for this encouragement to others in the forum.

Eve - so sorry you have had to deal with so many doctors and procedures in the past. I don't think anyone comes out 'worse than when they went in' - they just may now know they have colon cancer that needs to be taken care of and gotten rid of. That doesn't make it worse, really, because the cancer would already be there; you just wouldn't know it until it there were symptoms and then if would be even harder to get rid of. And if they find NOTHING, you now KNOW that is one less thing you need to worry about. Are you afraid of this knowledge? Are you afraid of this procedure because a friend(s) did not have a good experience? Not knowing your other health issues, I'm sure your doctor could tell you if there are reasons you shouldn't get a colonoscopy. Just ask. I always prefer more knowledge to less when it comes to my health. May you find the courage to at least ask your doctor about this procedure in the near future. I am glad you are a member of this forum. Thanks for posting this. Keep reading and asking questions.

Golly, Eve, I'm sorry that you feel that way and that your friend had such a negative experience. Everyone I know who has had one had an experience that left them with the feeling that it was easy and they were happy to have it done and know that they were healthy. I hope you reconsider. This is such an easy test with such great results. Colon Cancer is a disease that can be nipped in the bud.

Good for you, Robin. I hope that the polyp is non-cancerous, but if it should be malignant, you know you've got it out of your body and you can go forward with whatever you have to do to get healthy. I'm glad we were able to help you get it done. I know we all wish you the best.

I am afaid that I am the only one that has not been "swayed" by getting more info. If I were having problems I "might" feel different. Right now, I just feel I have had more procedures & surgeries & Doctors than I ever thought I could endure. I have a friend who just went through one & she said that she would never do that again!Who knows, someday i may change my mind, but not right now...with my luck I would be the one who has a complcation & ends up worse that when i went in...

Good for you, Judy! for asking! Not surprised they said no, but it was definitely worth asking. Praying for a quick and complete recovery for you from your back surgery.

Hey, I don't blame you for asking at all...kill two birds with one stone! I asked a doctor who was removing a lump from my breast (I called him the Breast Pest) if he'd pierce my ears while I was under! He didn't blink and said he'd do them when I came in for my post surgery check up...and he did!

I wish you a speedy recovery from your back surgery and hope you can have your colonoscopy ASAP. Good luck to you!

This team definitely encouraged me and put some of my fears to rest.

I just had back surgery a couple of weeks ago so I have a long recovery in front of me before I can go back in to the hospital esp w/anesthesia involved. But I kind of wish they could have done the colonoscopy while I was under for the back surgery. I had to have an enema and get cleaned out several days beforehand so I was ready to get it done!!! Of course, when I brought it up at the hospital they all looked at me kind of funny (not knowing that I am also on the SP Sarcastics Team as well!) and said No. LOL!

Yay Robin! Thanks for letting us know. And yes, Yay for this team! Please let this team know how it went for you. And I agree with Junebug to wear something easy to get in and out of. One less hassle to think about.

emoticon Robin! Good for you! Here's a tip...dress in clothes that are easy to get on! A sweat suit (if it's cold where you are). I live in the South and wore a muumuu and no bra and flipflops. When I was ready to go home, I just had my underpants and muumuu to slip on...no buttons or belts!

I hadn't really thought about the topic until I started reading. Now if I can only get my spouse to be a little more interested in the screening... Can hardly wait until the insurance kicks in. I am looking for a doctor here. It's not as easy to find a GP as it was where I used to live :)

Thanks to all the encouragers on the site!

Of course, Eco.

I can't believe you had trouble getting a referral from a doctor. How unethical...stupid...can one be?

I've been trying to get one for years. First, I couldn't get my doctor to order one and now I don't have insurance. Pray for my husband to get a job with health insurance for both of us.

As a matter of fact, I just saw the GP today and asked for a referral to a gastroenterologist. Will be making an appointment for a colonoscopy this week. I might very well have deferred the decision, were it not for this forum.

Have you gotten a colonoscopy because of what you've read hear on these posts? Or do you have one scheduled because of this forum?
