scar tissue can be a tough issue to deal with. Hope you can see gradual improvements.

I know you feel down, Jolien... I agree with Maw that our bodies have to analyze what is going on and when I have a gain (did that the last couple of weeks) suddenly the weight will go down again. Chin up! You dropped earlier so you ARE doing something right. We are here for you!

JOLIEN99,
Have you been tracking what you eat and drink? When I'm in "serious" mode I have my digital scale to weigh just about anything. I especially concern myself with grams of net carbs. If I get into the 39-40 range a day I'm almost guaranteed to loose.

Do you have a digital scale?

I might be able to slowly increase over time. My main problem according to the oncologist I had is scar tissue. I have a lot of trouble drinking enough fluids, too. Tomorrow I am supposed to have 10-12 glasses and I am usually lucky to get 5-6/day. Of course, on Tuesday I don't have to worry about getting that much to drink since I can't have anything until after cataract surgery. Then I might cheat a little afterwards.

Darlene,
the reason I asked is because I have no trouble at all eating 5000 calories, although on low-carb I'm not hungry for nearly that much. I'm wondering if it is possible that your stomach has shrunk from eating very little for years? The other part is, of course, that I used to overindulge on food for a long time, years, and maybe I'm the abnormal one, LOL.
In any case, I would think that by gradually increasing fat and calories you might be able to get much higher and give your body more energy to exercise. For me that is the beauty of low-carb.

Mostly not hungry for more. Sometimes fat bothers my gall bladder, though I probably eat close to even protein and fat. A lot of the time when I am tracking I end up with about 750 calories and can get up to around 1000, but I am too full to eat any more.

When you say you can't eat enough fat and protein, do you mean you are not hungry for more?

I am at the same place. I can't go completely to under 30 g carbs because I can't eat enough fats and protein to get my calories up to where they are supposed to be (can't seem to anyway in most cases), but stay 50-75 g most of the time. I lost from about 205 to 196, and since then have bounced between 194+ to 199.9 (so far not over 200 at least). At first my clothes were getting looser, but now I not only can't lose anything but my gut is getting larger and I can't figure out why. For the most part I don't eat any grain or potatoes other than sweet. I am drinking as much as I can manage. Nothing seems to help.

JOLIEN - I know what you mean. It is definitely discouraging. I think sometimes when we have a loss, our body struggles with this new set point and tries to take us back to that old weight. I also believe that this is the time when we need to stay focused and on point so that our body comes around and accepts this new lower weight as out new set point.

This is why I ignore my weight: every time I had my percentage of body fat/muscle mass checked at my doctor's office weight was the lowest when my body fat was up and my muscle mass down. Weight is a horrible predictor of health or fitness and just as bad a predictor of good looks. Just see how your clothes fit in front of a mirror about once a month and you know the real answer.

It happens, Jolien. Unfortunately, it happens. Part of it is just normal fluctuations - water retention, or just more mass in your digestive tract, especially your intestines.

The other thing is that your body has built in regulators to make sure that everything is going along as it's supposed to. And your body gets used to things as they are, and when something changes, it says "Wait a minute, let's check this out." And so your body tries to keep things from going any further while it investigates, and, when it decides that it's all fine, then let's things get going again. (I don't know why this only seems to work when we're losing weight, not when we're gaining!)

Your body is probably in an investigation and evaluation mode. You said "Hurray! I'm out of the 190s!" Your body said "Hey! What's going on? I'm out of the 190s." Give it a few days to a few weeks to think things over, and, if you keep on doing what you have been doing, you should start losing again.

One of the hardest things to do is to keep on doing what you were doing when it seems like things quit working. It's important that you do so, though. Unfortunately, all of us tend to tinker with things when we reach one of these times, and we shouldn't.

i feel your pain I have been circling 194 since May. Just keep plugging along. water is very important as is sleep and walking. I am glad I lost weight this year and seem to be in no danger of being 220 by January 1 2015.

Need to get more calories and less carbs and prob drink more water.
