I am doing well following this food plan. Sorry to hear you are allergic to fish but I do understand because I have Oral Allergy Syndrome ( OAS) I am highly allergic to raw fruit and tree nuts.

I am use to it since I have had this for many years. Some fruits that are cooked are okay like applesauce and oranges and lemons are okay too. but I just avoid them all together. Just easier to avoid them.

I have been filling my plate with more veggies and having a small portion of protein at every meal.

Hello. I have been playing with eating this way for a long time. It is time for me to get serious. Forgive me if you have already seen this. Oldways is holding a 4 week Mediterranean Diet Challenge beginning January 6, 2020 and I decided to join in.

They are selling a book, too but you can get it on amazon or at one of the used book sites. I am not sure you actually need the book, especially if you already understand the Mediterranean Diet. They have a facebook group, too.
I hope this finds you well. emoticon

Wow... great news. The closest to nature is a great rule to follow. I heard that from Carol Alt.
My problem is that I am allergic to fish! I used to eat it all the time.

I had a big bowl of veggie soup today!

Hello Resa
I am working hard to stay true to a Mediterranean food style. We are still eating fresh and I have eliminated all red meat from "my" food plan. I replaced it with more fish and veggies.

This week is Thanksgiving for us here in the US and I plan on eating more veggies and staying away from the stuffings ( my weakness) on Thursday.

Hope you are well.

Great to hear from you Kathleen! Is it too quiet in here so I will work harder at keeping in touch.
Review some of the articles...they don't really go out of date.

Not sure if this team is currently active but the more we post the active it will become hopefully-

Recently my husband's doctor suggested the Mediterranean diet, not for weight loss, for good heart health.
We already eat fresh healthy foods and do use good oil choices. The area of improvement needs to be LIMITING red meat and amount of eggs per week. AND the hardest part for us is LIMITING BUTTER. We do like butter but that is not something this plan encourages.
We are working to correct these "off plan" choices.

The plan seems good and balanced and I like having many choices to eat instead of having "Forbidden" foods.

Hi,

I thought it would be fun to have a thread where we could all meet, greet and share stories.

Me first! emoticon

I live in the Philippines. It's the farthest from the Mediterranean style of eating you can get. Lol. But I've managed to convert my Filipino family to a broad selection of available foods typical to the Mediterranean anyway. It's all in the way I cook. Instead of vegetable oil, I use olive oil. I've just moved here permanently so it will take some time for them to adjust to my "foreign" way of eating, but they actually ask me to cook some of my favorite vegetable dishes. I saute eggplant, Boniato (nutty-flavored sweet potato), onion, sometimes carrots, sweet red peppers, green beans and whatever else I can find down the road at the vegetable stand. I slice them thin and add plenty of garlic. For me, it is the main dish. Rice is a staple here. I don't eat white rice, but whole grain rice of any type. My favorite is wild rice. You wouldn't believe how much protein is in wild rice! 8-12 Grams in a serving. I love the flavor and texture of it. It's also has a nutty flavor and is not exactly crunchy, but never gets mushy. In this part of the Philippines. milk is not common. I can't live without dairy. Lol. I often use grated parmesan on my food, yogurt for a snack or in a salad, milk in my oatmeal and fruit, and cheese in my sandwiches. I am so glad they have fresh fish here. I eat it several times a week in different ways. The Filipinos sure know how to cook fish. I have had the most scrumptious fish ever, here. They buy it live and take it home from the fresh market or from the vegetable stand gutted and cleaned. There's nothing like fresh cold-water fish. A couple of years ago I was invited by my friend to go Talapia fishing in the nearby lake. Boy, what a treat! The scenery was magnificent. In the distance, I could see the mountains. Actually, they were volcanos. It was serene and the mysterious. The water was a misty blue and clouds encircled the tops of the mountains. To my surprise, my friend took a huge net. We positioned it near the shoreline. Within 15 minutes we caught several Talapia. It was enough for two families. We washed them and took them home in a bucket of water. It was my first successful experience of fishing. I never had luck before except catching a boot. Lol.

Have an awesome day!
