i really find it helps me to get involved in the cooking/baking, because then i don't avoid it and obsess! we made gingerbread houses from scratch this past weekend, and by the end, i was so overwhelmed by the smell of sugar that i didn't want to eat anything!

when my kids were little, we always baked stain-glass window or candycane cookies, just could not ignore them but haven't done them for years now. WE decorate the tree with the large candy canes, also have the mini ones in a dish near the door and they call my name all day long. I often have one in my mouth even though I try to limit them to no more than 2 a day.

i have to agree with Metamorphosis - free foods have always tempted me, though less than in the past. during the holidays though, it's just so readily available, which makes overeating so easy!!

I don't know if it is necessarily a Christmas food, but chocolate always temps me.

What I have a problem with around Christmas is "free" foods. I have a hard time passing up anything that I didn't have to buy but is being offered to me from someone else. Maybe it is left over from my days that I was so poor that I needed to be on WIC to get enough food.

For me it would be chocolate covered cherries, which though come over too sweet & rich for me now are still a downfall. So I don't have any in the house, and if I receive a box for a gift it goes in the freezer in my garage. Then when I have an absolute non-stop craving I pop just one wrapped morsel out and that's my portioned treat.

Cookies & baked goods usually tempt me except I am on my 3rd day of baking now and am truly "cookied out". emoticon Cookie batter and freshly baked cookies no longer have any hold- which is a emoticon thing. Once they are all baked, they get rationed out for gifts, office parties, and into the freezer. I only keep a few out since that keeps everyone from mindlessly eating at night due to all the wonderful cookie aromas in my home. I've got fresh fruit within grabbing distance now to help curb the cravings.

Here in the freezing north, I bake just to keep my morale up. I make several kinds of cookies and a snack mix and bestow them upon my friends and neighbors, all skinny, active people who love them. I budget for one or two a day for me and I don't binge on them.
BUT my great weakness? It is just not Christmas dinner without pecan pie! I make it myself and try to eat it a couple of times and off load the rest onto my friends. If I can't do that, I move on to my enemies! Ha! But if it remains with me, it gets eaten one piece at every meal until it is gone.
I live with the consequences, and only do it once a year in honor of my lovely Mother and Aunts who relished it at Christmas dinner. emoticon

The veggie platter, because I loooove the dip my mom makes. Unfortunately, that means I'm essentially eating a jar of mayo mixed with a container of sour cream - both things I wouldn't touch separately! Also my mom makes a snack mix that's fabu! Also a meat appy my dad makes. He calls it 'squirrel' but it's teryaki-marinated beef strips. Mmm mmm mmm.

My biggest tempation is Tamales. They come filled with pork, chicken or beef. They are so yummy but you cant have just one. It takes a 1/2 dozen to make a meal around here since they are kinda small.

Sweets are not my major problem, it's the appetizers! Chips and/or pretzels and dip, stuffed mushrooms (mmmmmmmmmm!), shrimp cocktail, anything like that. My Kraft foods e-mail has a Reuben Dip that I'm dying to try for DH and me for our Christmas Day! It will be just the two of us, and so far I know I'm going to make Eggs Benedict for breakfast and Bacon-Wrapped Cornish Game Hens in the Crock Pot for dinner. Nothing else for the day has been decided, but I may do the dip and serve it as our lunch! I don't expect it will be very healthy, but I'm going to do it with low-fat cream cheese to start with, and probably double the sauerkraut and halve the corned beef! I'll Spark the recipe, so after the holidays you can look and see how well it lightened up (or not!)

Happy Holidays to all my fellow Turtles!

Definitely fudge. This is the one time of the year that I make it. Luckily I give most of it away to family and friends. Plus I found a recipe that has less sugar in it but still tastes good.

Hmm. It would be easier to say what DOESN'T tempt me: Brussel sprouts. Everything else, bring it on!

I used to dive into the sweets but yesterday somebody at work gave me a plate of cookies and somebody else gave me fudge and they're both still wrapped. But I'm really really REALLY looking forward to turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, and yams.

I'm usually tempted by the fudge I make. I live alone now so I will eat a few pieces and then give the rest away. Usually the chocolate chip cookies I make would tempt me but I was diagnosed with gluten allergies. The thought of the outbreak of eczema to come after eating them is enough to strengthen my willpower! I only plan on making one batch this year and those will go to my daughters.

What foods around Christmas time tempt you to eat too much or too many? For me it is cookies and fudge. If I have either in the house I am tempted to overdo the eating. I am just finishing up some Chocolate cookies I made awhile ago but when I eat them, I can't just have ONE.

I do not plan to make any Christmas cookies this year but then so far I do not have any activities planned where I am expected to take cookies. That helps. I may make fudge, but I know I will be given fudge from one couple so perhaps I will not make it this year. The fact that I live alone makes it easier to avoid Christmas baking.

How about you? What Christmas Foods tempt you?
