Now that I drink so much water every day, I actually LOVE drinking water. The only other beverages I keep in the house are low sodium veggie juice and apple juice for emergency low blood sugar. I rarely need the apple juice because I've been doing better about eating and exercising in the last couple of weeks. It sits in the back of my refrigerator hidden by my Brita pitcher. lol

Because I am slowly building my bike riding time I can now ride 10 miles instead of a .5 mile before my tousch goes numb! emoticon

Getting up early every day with granddaughter gets me more motivated and feel better. Nest week she comes 5:30 am and I will let you know how that motivates. 7:45 am is okay and we have done that this week, just have to hang tough and make it work. Want to help out daughter because what they charge to take care of a child is ridiculous. Have a good day.

I am a very easy going gal that loves people and wants to know as many as I can. I want to make new friends so I can enjoy more of life. When people get to 55 or 60 there are some that think life should be over but guess what it is just beginning. Maybe 50 years ago it was over but not now people are living longer and working in their 70's. I would have been if I didn't have leukemia and it does not stop me but I have good days and bad, so being home if I need rest, I rest, at work I couldn't do

Lets see, what are the healthy habits I have learned since joining Sparkpeople.
1) I now feel that this is a live style change, not a "diet".
2) 95% of the time we cook from scratch, not processed or pre pakaged for us.
3) I need to take the time for myself, go to the gym 3 days a week for an hour, use the treadmill at home or walk outside the other 4.
4) and I am definitely worth it, aren't we all.

I am really starting to enjoy veggies more than I did in the past! When I started making it a habit to get my 5 servings a day I had to force them down, but now that I have been focusing on this for a while I have found more recipes that I enjoy and have remembered how great crunchy fresh veggies can be on a hot day!

I am getting outside more because I am riding my bike. Even though I use sun screen religiously, my skin has a very nice healthy tan...a very nice extra benefit to the baggier pants I am wearing.

One thing that I am finding is that I take the time to think twice about what food I put in my mouth.....well, most of the time. emoticon I will think that I want a certain snack and most of the time before I eat it, I plug it into my nutritional tracker and see how it is going to affect my whole day, if it will totally blow it off track. If it will, then I won't eat it. But I do think more about what I eat than I used to, about how it's going to affect me.

I am also eating breakfast every morning. I used to when I was working, but got away from it when I had to quit because of disabilites. However, I am finding that that breakfast is what keeps me going all day and keeps me from getting hungry too quickly.

Wow! You are all doing so well! It is so exciting to read how many of you are feeling more energetic and finding it easier to choose healthier foods than in the past. I know I feel that way also! I hope that any of you struggling to keep your habits in mind can find the motivation in this topic to keep going, It motivates me so much to see what others have accomplished and the results they feel, because I know that if they did it I can to (& so can you) I love what TMCK 40 said about becoming more aware of foods before buying them and how waffie80 is finally feeling in control of what she eats (and not letting the food control her like I have in the past). As I begin to feel this way I know my extra weight will start to come off .

I am glad Joycemarie9 has come to look forward to her morning walk. I think one of the biggest benefits of making the effort to build healthy habits is that after a while we find we enjoy them and miss them when we skip a day. Good luck team as you continue to improve your life one habit at a time!

I am so much more aware. Grocery shopping, snacking. What I choose to put into my body has become significant as opposed to just putting it in for the sake of it.....I hope that makes sense.

I can see that I am in control of what I eat and I feel so much better for it. It is not an effort anymore. I went through the Memorial Day weekend without over indulging. I ate a little more than I should have but not to the point of feeling horrible or guilty about it. It has been a while since I have felt in control of what I eat and not the other way around.

I find that if I don't have salad at least twice a day I crave it. It has become such a habit now, but a good habit.

People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing -- that's why we recommend it daily.

Slow and steady wins the race.

My healthy habit of having fruit with breakfast has become automatic. I'm seeing the added benefit of automatically adding other fruits and veggies throughout the day.
I'm also starting to see strength training becoming part of automatic thinking. The firmer, toned muscles I'm starting to see from that will make it an automatic habit before long!

Same here with the cravings! Sure, I crave chocolate from time to time I usually just drink some lowfat Chocolate Soy Milk if I do but I've noticed I also crave salads, baby carrots and fruits, they are like treats for me!

And when I do eat something not so healthy (like a cupcake or a cookie) I eat it slowly and savor it because I know it's a treat and it's ok to treat yourself every now and then!

I also look forward to going to the gym! I usually download a show or movie and put it on my ipod to watch, I look at it this way. I could be watching this at home while doing nothing or burn some calories while watching it!

I see that I can avoid the chips and pies even when they are there for the taking!!!! I am able to make a better choice even when I am the only one in the room trying and no one would question if I didn't(other than me of course) Picked fruit over cake , picked mustard over mayo, picked 1 slice of whole wheat bread over the other 5 bread choices.

I've noticed that I now automatically make snacks for me to take with me when I'm planning on going out. I use to think it was such a pain, but it has become like second nature in only a couple of weeks.
My attitude is much more appreciative for everything and almost like a rose colored outlook. It is great! Thank you Lord!
