I've found that is a good way to starve a craving. Just satisfy your taste buds. It works for me.

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able ; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it (1 Cor. 10: 13)

I was craving peanut butter cookies so I finally went out and bought one and split it with my daughter because it was huge. A few bites later and I was satisfied. This seems like a good compromise for me because if I had made them I would have eaten more!

I crave salty snacks, so I just don't buy them. I will occasionally buy Quaker snacks in cheese flavor, but I still have trouble stopping after just a few. Celery with or without dip(FF salad dressing) will substitute sometimes. Mostly I just want chips!!

Chocolate! There isn't much to make it healthier but I do limit the amount I eat. I also will eat chocolate meringues which give me the chocolate taste with zero fat.

Chinese takeout, almost always Hunan Tofu with a veggie spring roll (deep fried, of course)...I'm slowly weaning myself! I used to order it 2-3 times a week; terrible, I know! I'm down to once every other week, which I think is a huge improvement!

I think my biggest craving has to do with the connection I make between food and love. Three weeks ago, my daughter and her family were here for the weekend of her 20th high school reunion. I spent hundreds of dollars for food and still have a refrigerator full (although I have made a valiant dent. I have gaioned 6 pounds and still have that hollow feeling in me. I think I get a part of my eating issue.

My cravings seem to change all the time. Today it was salty (had a few peanut butter filled pretzel blobs), but sometimes I want sugar and sweet stuff. I really try to ignore those! Most of the time I just crave extra sharp cheddar cheese... which I do not even keep in the house!

My biggest cravings are "comfort foods". Anything warm and cheesy...

I have been buying lower fat and cheeses with a lot of taste like bleu and sharp. I have also been trying to incorporate more veggies in the dishes.

I honestly think you should have what you crave and count every single calorie. Dinner will just have to be a big salad. Once I see that the craving eats up my precious calories, I tend to back away for going there. Be aware. Stay present. Let yourself work through the craving head on. YOU CAN DO IT.

Baked goods, (deserts) especially homemade stuff. I don't by them at the store, but when people bring them to the house, or I bake stuff for a special occasion, In have a hard time controlling myself. Of course, if I'm doing the baking I make sure I use a healthy recipe.

Like so many others, my craving is CHOCOLATE--but only dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate. I have found that, if I have a small bit when I first start craving, that small bit satisfies the craving. But, if I deny the craving, I tend to "gobble up" a lot. I keep a package of either Dove Dark Chocolate (one 1" square)or M&M's Dark Chocolate (1 Tbsp.)works for me and satisfies the craving. I keep the packages in a drawer, sealed in freezer bags, so that I have to make a conscious effort to get it--it's not sitting open and ready on the counter.

Sorry to tell you, ARIENE, but YOU really are the only one who can help you. You have to make up your mind that you are going to change (permanently) your lifestyle and be committed to do it! Get yourself involved in SparkPeople--check out different areas, use portion control, exercise,a healthy diet, set goals and rewards, track your food and exercise, etc. You will find a lot of motivation, inspiration and support here at SparkPeople. USE US! And, don't think of a change in lifestyle as a temporary thing--just until you lose a few pounds--think of it as a permanent change so that you will more easily maintain the weight loss once you reach your goal.

P.S.: I used to weight 234 and now weigh 140 (and have maintained this for several years). If I can do it-- emoticon

Anything nutty. So, I keep lightly-salted mixed nuts in one cupboard and my natural peanut butter and several jars of PB2 on hand. I make sure I measure them out, though. Although they're all good for you - too much can be a bad thing....
I did satisfy a craving for dark chocolate yesterday.

I started adding Larabars to my diet. They are a raw food bar made mostly with dates and nuts. They have many types. They make a great breakfast. Target sells them in a variety box of small portion bars. I no longer crave other sweets. They are a great source of protein and high in fiber. Try them! My favorite is peanut butter and jelly.

I know this sounds weird, but my biggest craving is Diet Coke, which I have not had since a week before I started Sparkpeople (I guess about four weeks now). I think I used it to deal with stress (like when I was visiting my elderly parents today). I also have a craving for oatmeal raisin cookies which we have those dough balls in the freezer from a school fundraiser. NOT making them, cause I know I will eat them ALL!

My cravings are numerous, but my biggest craving is usually for peanut butter & jelly. I've even sat at the counter with a spoon, scooped out jelly from its jar and then peanut butter from the other jar. Very, very dangerous.

I've switched to Naturally More Peanut Butter (fewer calories, more fiber & protein) and Naturally More Almond Butter. They also come in smaller jars than JIF and Skippy, which makes it easier to control my portions. I also use sugar-free preserves as well as a high-fiber tortilla, light bread, or a sandwich thin instead of regular bread.

My biggest craving is usually for chocolate. Then I reach for my Emerald cocoa roast almonds and that will normally satisfy my craving. If it doesn't, I will eat a fun size candy bar and that does the trick.

If I truly crave something I let myself have it. The trick for me is not letting the craving become too "strong" or I might overdue it. Having just a little bit of something I want is better than "binging" on it. If I don't deny myself things that I love, I can usually stay within my caloric and nutritional goals. I also work out alot so treating myself every once in awhile is ok with me. I also find that with eating a healthier diet, I crave healthier foods!

I am like peacan, I don't really have any cravings. I allow myself to eat whatever I want as long as I have the calories to do so.
But I sure did get hungry reading some of these posts!!!

candy, not chocolate so much, chewy caramel, Mary Janes, Orange Slices, any kind that sticks in your teeth, and has lots of simple carbs, and yes I do crave it, I am right now on a no candy, month, to see if it takes the edge off my craving, sure hope so, and hope it takes the edge off a couple of pounds emoticon

Wow, I don't really crave anything.

I always pretty much allow myself to eat whatever I fancy as long as it falls within my limits. This includes everything from chocolate to white wine!

I rarely buy any "treats" in my house and coming from England, it isn't unusual to have wine around and so I don't really crave drinking it and can leave it alone for months.

I guess i'm in the minority here!!

Whoever posted the pic of the ice cream and fries, you reminded me of when I was younger and used to eat them both together!! I don't know what the hell that was about, but it worked!!!! I don't do that anymore!! :)

SALT - I love my salt...salty chips with dip (yes, the onion dip) or popcorn with added salt & melted, salted butter.

Luckily, I don't crave very often...& most often I am now choosing the popcorn option 'cause I don't eat much of it & there is no 'left over' dip from portion control efforts to beckon me back!

I crave chocolate. I see I'm not alone in this! For me, I've decided it's ok to indulge a little if, IF:

It's a day that starts with "S"
I'm making it from scratch, because then you know it's really worth it

Chips and Dip! Creamy Sour Cream and Onion Dip! Scoops Fritos so you can scoop a big ol' mouth full! Unfortunately - I haven't found a way to work it into my program so I just avoid it at all costs! If and when I fall off the wagon - I will have to try to limit my serving and then jump back on the wagon ASAP!

Sounds like the "Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program" (if you have a problem with sugar), is for you. Part of the plan is a small potato with the peel every night before bed. See her website:

I crave everything I am not at liberty to mow on. I love red meat so i try to limit it and when I do eat it, I choose sirloin! I also am a carboholic so I try to choose whole wheat pastas AND brown rice. I also love icecream and stick with frozen yogurt or weight watcher's/skinny cow options. They do take care of the crave but are sooo expensive! Cheese is also a big crave for me, I will cave to the crave every once in a while or else I know I will go totally over the edge! emoticon

I have many big bad cravings, salty, sweet, fried, cheesy (love the cheesy) chocolate and many more. i guess it is just food in general. However one of my favs is nachos. Fried salty corn chips smother in cheese what could be more bad than that. I have discovered is is sooo easy to make your own chips. Now I buy corn tortillas in the 200 count bag keep then in the freezer. Take out two toast them in the oven no oil no salt. After they are golden I top with Cabot's 75% less fat cheese fresh jalapenos, tomatoes, green onions and a few black beans pop back under the broiler until bubbly oozy goodness. Top with a little Mrs Renfros habenaro salsa. Two mini Mexican pizzas under 300 calories a makes a great meal.

What is your biggest "bad" craving and how have you made it healthier?
Mine is this awesome grilled cheese I make. However, I use to make it with two slices of Co-Jack Cheese and a slice of Velveeta cheese along with butter in the pan and on the bread. I now make it with one slice of Co-Jack Cheese, one slice of Kraft Singles, butter only on the whole grain bread and cooking spray in the can.
