I, too, am looking forward to the Super Bowl. I do understand the anxiety when the Pats are behind as I feel that way too. Let's hope the outcome is favorable, but win or loose at least they made it this far.

Good morning friends. Hope everyone is staying safe and warm. One thing I love about retirement is that I donít need to worry about traveling in inclement weather. emoticon Today is a free day-no meetings or appointments, so I can enjoy knitting and some reading. I also need to organize my spare room, which serves as my craft room and office. Time to get ready to do taxes-ugh. I do have a School Board meeting tonight, but thankfully the roads should be clear by then.

Are you gearing up for the Super Bowl? I love/ hate to watch. It's great when the Pats are ahead, but have anxiety when they mess up or get behind. It's like watching a horror movie-Ha!

It looks like Goldenrod hasn't popped by Spark for quite some time. Hope all is ok with her.

Stay warm everyone!

Another storm is on the way, and then bitter cold. It was below zero here today, don't really need any colder, but I guess we have no choice.

ORTATK - It really was not a nice storm so enjoy your time in Florida. We are now expecting warmer temperatures today and tomorrow with rain, and the rain is not going to be good with as much snow as we just had.

I never thought that I would be in Florida for any time, let alone for several months. I was happy to not have to deal with that past storm. My sister in CT said the ice was the worse. She had to bring out the hair dryer to get it off the windshield.

My son in South Portland said they just stayed in, hockey for my grandson was canceled on Sunday, so it must have been really bad.

Whew! I am finally cleaned out as far as I can go, and have a man coming this afternoon to do my porch roof areas for me. I really don't need any more storms like this one for the rest of the winter.

Yes, Sandy, I know how much work it was to clean off the vehicle. We did not get as much sleet, etc. as you did, but there was still a layer of crust.

Was so happy that the Patriots are headed to another Super Bowl. It was a fabulous game last night where I held my breath a few times, LOL.

Good morning all,

Hoping you are all well after the storm. We got about a foot of snow, which compressed to have a couple of inches of ice on top! What a job getting my car cleared off this morning. Ia m so glad I don't have to be anywhere today!

On the plus side, I have gotten plenty of exercise cleaning off the vehicles and shoveling around the steps!

I was hoping to be down another pound or two by the end of the month. Perhaps this will help!

Nice to see you all posting! It is so encouraging!

I still wonder what happened to Goldenrodfarm, She was just always here! Then just disappeared without a word!. I hope she is okay.

Enjoy your day and be careful if you are cleaning up after the storm, take breaks! Drink plenty of water. (note to self!)

Today was a chicken soup kind of day. Itís snowing and blowing outside, and I wasnít going anywhere. A little knitting, a good book and I was set. This little football game is making my heart pound, with my Patriots are vying for a spot in the Super Bowl.

Happy Saturday everyone. Am pleased to share that my GD is now home from the hospital. It is absolute amazing what they can do now. She had major surgery on Monday and is now able to finish her healing in her own room, her own bed. Kudos to the doctors who worked hard to complete the entire surgery laparoscopically.

Looks like we have a snow storm bearing down on us. Stay safe and get you shovels ready.

Hi All!
So far writing down everything I eat is paying off. Hopefully I can keep doing it until I have lost a significant amount of weight. So far the weight loss has been around four pounds, but I need to get about a minimum of 15 pounds more taken care of.

Good afternoon all,
I have not done a good job of staying current on this chat. So many personal things popping up. I hope to do a better job of checking in and stay on track with personals. Progress this challenge has been slow and steady. I have been working hard to avoid emotional eating. Last Friday, we had funeral services for my DH's aunt. On Monday, my oldest GD had major surgery. By planning ahead, I was able to eat healthy and stay on track through some long and arduous days.

I joined WW just before Thanksgiving. It was helpful in keeping me on track during the holidays. Still gained a bit, bit nothing like past years. Tracking seems to make a difference for me.

Ortatk- How nice to spend some of these cold days in Florida. We have several friends who go down every winter. One year I hope to join them.

Eileen- I feel you pain when it comes to sugar. I do so well when I keep it out of my diet, but just one bite and I'm hooked again. The holidays are tough because there are so many tempatations. Good luck with your weight loss plans

TBC- Welcome! Spark is a great spot for support and this is a great team. I live in Mid- Coast Maine and like you, I am not always a fan of exercising. I retired in 2017 and have been trying to stay active. It's easy to get into a sedentary rut. Good luck- I hope you visit here often.

Sandy- Sounds like you're off to a great start.

Brenda- Hello! I am glad the holidays are behind us as well. It's time to refocus.

Rel- Nice to meet you! Can't remember if you popped by while I was TCDragon.

I must say I love my life in Maine. But, here in Florida this winter is easier to deal with. My new winter coat from LLBean good to 35 degrees before was wonderful in December. I went out and attended hockey games without a thought. But, I must say no boots is a wonderful way to go out here (I also left my coat in Maine).

I wish everyone a great month where ever you are.

I'm a bit late to the party.. but HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Have to admit that I am relieved that the holidays are over and that I can now focus on ME again.
This cold snap is making it hard for me to get motivated and making it to the gym 3 times in a week seems like my pattern. I wanted to make it more times, but i seems like I have an excuse for each time is skip. Not a valid one mind you!
Well I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

So far I am sticking with the plan to weigh, record, etc. everything that goes into my mouth. I have lost a couple of pounds so I will keep doing this. It is difficult with some homemade food that I have in my freezer, but I do weigh it and estimate the number of calories based on similar foods.

It is really cold here, but at least no snow for a few days.

I'm thinking there have been lots of changes on the site, so I need to go look around.. I don't have a scale yet, so I don't know how much weight I've gained back.. I do know I need to lose some.. Good work Sandy. Yesterday I started weighing, recording calorie count of everything that goes into my mouth other than plain tea and water. I have also started exercising every day even if I have to shovel snow over and above the exercise video I have done. (I have had to deal with a lot of snow so far this year. Fortunately most of the heavy lifting has been eliminated with an electric snowblower.)

I hope the pounds start dropping soon. I was appalled by the amount of weight I had gained in the past few months. I have got to get it off!

Good morning friends,

I am just doing a check in here. Reporting that I have done well in my goals so far this year. I have increased my daily step goal, and been more diligent recording my food intake. Now to continue this and gradually make other improvements!

How are you folks doing?

Wishing you a healthy and successful week! Remember that success does not have to be measured with scales. That is only a small part of the bigger picture!

Good morning,

Joined SparkPeople and found this group on 1/3/19. I have been manually tracking calories and making some progress towards weight loss goals over the last couple years. Started at all time high at 288 and am now at 216. Need to get re-invigorated to continue on to reach/sustain goal.

While I do love winter in Maine...I do find it very challenging on my mood, stress levels and healthy eating habits. My exercise has been limited to barn chores but mucking stalls and haying horses does get me started. I don't mind this "exercise" ....but really detest exercising for the sake of exercising though I am trying to start the morning on the treadmill watching the local news at least 3x a week.

We have a bit of snow now adding another 8-10 inches yesterday. The mild temperatures today may see me out on the lake with the grandchildren ice fishing. Happy to find the group and get to know you all albeit virtually.

Have a wonderful day!

Happy New Year everyone.

I din't get much Sparking done yesterday, as we got snow -- about 6" -- that needed to be shoveled from the paths and from around my vehicle. That was my beginning workout for 2019. I have promised myself to get back to exercising and I have done a video today. I have also promised myself that I will again break my sugar addiction--this is going to take time as I would rather not quit "cold turkey", but I will if I have to--just wanted to try cutting back gradually first.

Looking forward to this new year. I will soon be in Florida for a few months and intend to do some outdoor walking. I must admit that fear keeps me from walking outside more often. Fear of what, mugging and such. It would foolish when I say it but....it is often in my thoughts.

Well goal one for 2019.....take phone for security and walk outside....starting in neighborhood and then extending to a close by business.

On my way to my new normal.

Good morning Maine!

Some of you must be getting some snow. We are getting rain and sleet so far on the coast. It is still so dark out!

I have been awake since 3, and up since 4, just not sleeping well. I am thinkful for the day off!

So here we are, beginning a new year. I have been doing some thinking, reevaluating, looking at what works and what does not. While I have some thoughts in mind, I have not set solid goals or plans at this point. I am hoping you all might share you goals for the upcoming year, months, weeks, or days.

One thinking I have given a lot of thought to is simplifying. We have spent nearly 47 years accumulating stuff, our stuff, my in-laws stuff, just way too much stuff. While we have made some strides in disposing unneeded items, we have a long way to go. I am hoping to make a dent in this area of life this year.

Also thinking of trying to eat a more plant based diet. Nothing rigid, just a general goal.

Please reach out and share your thoughts.

Hope you have a nice day, and don't get hit too hard with the weather today.

Keep on Sparking!

Sandy
