I was in a hurry this morning to do chores, Juniper was mooing at me for her grain, so I put herís out first and decided to get her fresh bedding while she was busy with the grain. Most cows do not eat when about to calve, however Juniper waited only long enough for me to finish her clean bedding and laid down and within 5 minutes there was a calf on the ground. Never saw a cow have a calf that quick in my life. After the calf was completely delivered Juniper jumped up so quickly I couldnít believe it, she started licking the calf while I made sure the nose was cleaned off, then leaned over and slurped me right up the face taking my hat off in the process. I decided she could go about cleaning her own calf, I didnít need to have a bath. My neighbor said she was waiting for me to be there lol. The calf is a pretty heifer, good sized, she has the tiny white spot on her front feet like her mother, but is coal black other then that. She knows where to get dinner, and everyone is happy!

Just got back from taking my GD for an interview at Bates. We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that she has been accepted at UMaine and Husson. I still canít believe she will graduate from high school this year.
Barb- any news on the calf? The cat sounds like a hot ticket! Sheíll keep you on your toes. I havenít had a kitty in many years. Now that I will be home more, perhaps itís time to think about adding some pets. My Tasha was always very content to lay on the couch and watch me knit. Her preference was to stretch out on the couch when our lab was around, because the dog was not allowed on the couch and Tasha like to remind her of that!
Jenna- hope all goes well with your festivals. Holidays are filled with so many activities, but it can certainly get busy very quickly. I can picture you kitty enjoying the holidays as well.
ORTATK- I have been there so my heart is with you. I took care of my mom in her home during her final days with cancer. I hope your sister mends quickly.

Yes, Barb, it sounds like you have a smart cat, too. I know Tabitha is a lot smarter than other cats I have had. My older cat, George, has got to make a trip to the vet today. He has started urinating blood, and that cannot be put off. Why is it that something like this always happens when you think your day (or week) is so full you cannot possibly include anything else on your calendar?

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Busy day planned as I am still setting up a safe house for my sister to come home from rehab. If all goes as planned she will be home on Sunday. Monday the home nurse comes to set up visits and such. I am sure many of you have been through this already and know the drill.

Have a happy, healthy day with mindful eating.

On my way to my new normal.

Even the sewing machine is trickier with a kitty around. While Fret is good about not attacking the moving materials or anything, she just really wants to be right in the middle of it all!

*knock on wood* I think my kitty is done with tree exploration! Everything was still standing when we got home from work and a late night of rehearsals AND I was able to sleep through the whole night!

Actually, to be honest, last night was the best night of sleep I have had all week! That being said, I definitely could still use a couple more hours if I were being honest with myself.

I got a ton done yesterday, which only leaves a handful of items on my to-do list for today. I am taking students to a vocal festival in Houlton Friday and Saturday and just need to double check that I have all my ducks in a row for that!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Eileen, Calliope is also learning she sat in my lap the other night and when she started in I put her down, about 10 minutes later she jumped back up and after I said no, she deliberately turned her back to the knitting and lay there purring. Sometimes she is way too smart!

Oh Barb, I so know what you mean as my Tabitha loves to play with my yarn. However, I have made some progress in convincing her that if I am knitting she is to leave everything alone. She loves to lay in my lap, and she knows the minute she attacks the needles, or yarn she will get put down. She will lie content for longer and longer stretches of time, before she is overcome by her inner devil and gets deposited on the floor. There is some hope.

I thought about a Christmas tree briefly, then thought about Calliope, I canít knit at all when she is around, she likes everything I have to play with, I was knitting a rather complicated pattern for a miniature dollhouse bedspread in fine cotton and size 0 needles, she took the ball of cotton across the living room unrolling most of it while I was trying to finish the row so I wouldnít lose my place. When I retrieved it she attacked my needles, she has always loved metal tools, then while trying to knit she kept grabbing the ends dangling. The pattern is hard enough with all that going on! I have to make sure it is all wrapped up in a bag if I leave it for even a minute. I can see me getting up at 4am to pick the tree up off the ground lol, maybe another year!

Jenna, it sounds like you have a kitty who likes to play with pretty things liken the baubles on the Christmas tree. I have a mischeivous kitty too, and for that reason will probably not have a
Christmas tree.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Those photos are absolutely stunning! Thanks for sharing!

I have a lot to tackle at school today, but really think I will feel good once all is said and done! After school I have a beginner band rehearsal, I need to pick up t-shirts for a vocal festival this weekend and then hubby has an errand he needs to run before we stop off for dinner before a 7pm rehearsal. We've been invited out with friends after, but to be quite honest I don't know if I will have the energy!

Sweet, darling kitty of mine was up at 4am playing with the Christmas tree! I heard her and glanced at the clock I thought it read 5am so I got up and started to get going only to realize how early it still was!! I was disappointed that I left the warmth of my bed for 'nothing'!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Thank you Rachelle, for the pictures you took at the Victorian Mansion. I probably will never get there so your pictures mean a lot to me.

Barb, Cricket sounds like a good addition to your animals and it would seem is bonding to you. I too hope the calf arrives soon. I think it is going to be warmer toward the end of the week, so perhaps that would be a good time for her to deliver.

Jenna, congratulations on your concert.

No calf yet, hope she doesnít wait too long, I would like to let her out, however I would not like to carry a calf back to the barn from the back upper pasture, besides it was cold out today! She looks ready, even my neighbor with the dairy farm was suprised she didnít have it the other day.

Cricket sure lives up to her name, she squawks a lot, even when she is purring and riding around on my shoulder rubbing her head on my cheeks.

The Victoria Mansion was incredible! everything was so opulent. It must really have been a masterpiece during it's heyday. So much incredible detail! every celling was covered and the paired mirrors to create an infinity effect were so creative. The decorators for each room were truly artists. Next year's theme is Christmas through a child's eye, so I will definitely return!

Jenna-congratulations on a successful holiday concert season. I remember how hectic it was preparing our elementary students for the big day and how great everyone felt when we were done. Such a great way to start the holiday.

It's a quiet day today; doing a little online shopping and prepping for my trip to New York next week for a little shopping and touring. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time, but could never seem to get away. One of the benefits of retirement!

First concert is done and it went really well!

Because yesterday was so busy I didn't finish preparing a lunch for today. I am kicking myself for that because I know I struggle making good mid-day choices!!

It looks beautiful out there this morning, even though it is pretty bitter!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Rachelle, enjoy the tour of the Victorian Mansion, I have always wanted to do that so you will need to tell us about it.

Jenna, I hope all your Christmas concerts go well and that the weather co-operates for you. I know how much work goes into these concerts as I was in the glee club in HS. I doubt that all the practices, etc. has changed much since then.

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start. Can't believe it is the last week of November.

Wow! Looks like everyone has had a wonderful and busy few days! I enjoyed the company of family, tasty food and nice long walks in the beautiful weather (the snow was gorgeous yesterday)!

Barb, thank you for stepping in and helping with leadership! Also, the name Cricket for a kitty is adorable!

We have the first concert of our winter season tonight! Time to buckle up and hold on tight through the month of December!

Love reading up on all this chatter!

Happy Sunday all,
Got some steps in walking in the woods with DH to gather boughs for wreaths. He'll make some for me to take to the cemetery for Mom, Dad, & Clarence ( we noticed that no one ever left anything on his stone, so we adopted him.)

Spent yesterday with the little GDs and went to see the movie Coco. Very cute, and emotional for me as the celebrations in the movie are part of my heritage. I was reminded of my grandmother.

Tomorrow I'll be heading to Portland with the local senior group for a tour of Victoria Mansion. I have always wanted to go, so this should be a good trip.

How is Jupiter? Do we have a calf yet?

A here late today, so this is short. I managed - with the help of a friend - to get the table layout for the craft fair on Saturday all done and ready to be delivered to the University tomorrow morning. That is always a big job that I do once a year.

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.

I only went to Walmart later in the day when the store was quieting down. There was some leggings I wanted and I had seen on line. So I picked up a package. Didn't want to use my credit card on line so I paid cash in the store. The shopping center in Windham is just down the road a few miles.

Have a safe weekend.

It has taken me a long time to get here due to health problems. I wish all of you Spark's Hugs and you too will get there too.

Did get all my kitchen firewood in under cover yesterday, but it was not nearly as productive a day as you had Barb. Someone and his son came this morning to make sure it was all in, and since it was, they cleaned up all the bark, etc. and got that so I can use it for kindling. I have just another load of furnace wood which has yet to be delivered to get in. This is so much different that years ago when my DH was cutting out firewood. He never seemed to work on it until it was a dire necessity. I spent a lot of time out in the cold--sometimes with it snowing--to get our firewood in. This is so much better.

Have a great weekend everyone.

I am with Rachelle and Eileen, I didnít even get close to a store yesterday! My SILand her sister make it a yearly sister time together, they leave at about 4-5 am and donít get back until midnight. I donít like shopping for a few hours, sometimes when I go to Bangor to pick up things I get fed up with the crowds, traffic and get too tired and just go home after 4-5 hours including driving time, that is more then enough for me! I did most of my Christmas shopping online last year.

Thank you for your offers of help, I will ask if needed! I would like to see this group keep going!

I took down the last temporary fence yesterday, lots of walking and reeling wire on a spool, then picking up all the fence posts, took most of the afternoon so it was getting dark when I was finishing up. I noticed Juniper was off by herself for quite a while so I went up and brought her in the barn. I put her in a tie stall while I moved the stubborn little calf to a different pen, then cleaned it out and rebedded it for Juniper, I also had to move the waterer up. So waiting for a calf now, she is huge, and all bagged out so it wonít be long. She was mooing to the older calf like they do with their own babies, so I think she is about ready. Cows usually go away from the herd to calve. I ended up having to use a flashlight to go find the tractor and bring up the fencing supplies after I was done with Juniper.

Rachelle, I so agree with you concerning Black Friday. I try not to need anything at any store including a grocery store on this day every year. The stress just isn't worth it.

Yes, Barb, if I can help you (and Sandy) in anyway to keep this team running smoothly, please
let me know.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Happy Black Friday all. I will NOT be one of the many shoppers out in the stores today. I love walking through the stores, looking for that special gift at a great price but not at the frenetic pace that will be out there today.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my DD, DS and families.. Time to officially pass the baton. I have a VERY brief moment on Thursday morning when I realized I didn't have much do to except finish making a chocolate pie, but that lasted a millisecond as I grabbed my coffee and actually watched the Macy's Parade.

One of my favorite moments involved a vintage personalized Christmas stocking pattern. I needed to make two new ones and had somehow I had misplaced the pattern and I felt frantic. So much so, I even posted a pattern search on a knitter's forum that I subscribe to Incredibly, someone had a copy. Although that addressed my need for knitting directions, I still wanted my original pattern as it was something I had inherited from my dear MIL. She passed away of cancer at the young age of 47 and never go to see her grandchildren. The stockings are an homage to her. My BIG moment of gratitude came when I was cleaning my spare room and I found the precious, tattered pattern. I was SO relieved and amazed that 1) someone else in the word had this very old pattern, and 2) that I found my original. I can assure you, I will find a better way to store this pattern in the future.

Hope everyone had a wonderful day. Thank you, Barb for your willingness to help the team. If there is anything I can do, let me know.

Hope you are feeling better Rachelle, I have had the same thing and it is hanging on, right now I have coughing spells that are making my ribs ache, hard to get a good nights sleep that way. I have to say I donít usually get these things and this is the second time this month.

Nice sunny day out there, but not too warm, hope everybody is having a great Thanksgiving today!

Good morning all,

Hoping most of you will be able to spend some quality time with your family and friends today.

Rachelle, so sorry you have been sick with the flu. Hope it is over in a flash!

I just made sausage and egg for breakfast. Now I will attempt some divinity fudge for my daughter in law!

Sandy, if sounds like there a couple of us that would be willing to help you keep this team going. I sure would hate to see the Maine team disappear for lack of leadership. Let me know what I can do to help within my capabilities.

Barb, it sounds like you and cricket are bonding. Kittens can be such love bugs. My Tabitha usually wants more attention than I have time to give her.

Seems a little warmer this morning, I am having a hard time getting used to this cold this year, probably because this cold/flu thing I got is hanging on. I have been slowing dow some but there are a certain amount of things that just have to be done on a farm no matter what.

The new kitten is turning out to be quite a cutie, she is confined to a large cage for her safety while she learns all about other barn animals, and she now considers it her safe place. She rides around on my shoulder for chores, but likes to go back to her home. She is a loud mouth, meowing all the time. When I first go to get her she jumps up on me ans squirms up to rub her face on mine, what a nut! I named her Cricket.

Hannah, you are probably already gone, but know that you will be missed, I realize that SP is hard to keep up with sometimes and life still goes on. If I am going to the quilt show I will give you a ring.

Sandy, I wouldnít mind helping out, I am here often and do lots of computer stuff, usually check Maine a couple of times a day even if I donít always post.

HIKERSAN I don't feel that I am computer literate enough to do all that Hannah did for the team, but I would be willing to start the monthly threads and anything else that I have the capability to do. What exactly would being a co-leader entail? Maybe if Jenna is willing to do most of the heavy computer work, I could do some of the fill in things as I do check in here every day.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

HIKERSAN let me think if over during the holiday. I may be interested!

Good Morning, friends! It sure is cold out there this morning! I had a hard time falling asleep last night because my feet were cold and my mind was racing. I finally got up and filled a hot water bottle and emailed myself a to-do list for the morning! It was after midnight before I could relax enough to let sleep take over. Luckily my workday will prove to be fairly light, because we have plenty of food prep and packing to do tonight!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

It with great sadness that we say good by to Hannah. We wish her well, in her future endeavors and a healthy fulfilling life. She sure gave a lot to this team! Thank you Hannah, you will be missed!
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Do we have any active members who would be interested in stepping up to assist with leading the team? I have been at it for about 10 years, and seem to have less and less time to devote to it. I welcome any assistance. If I were to step down, we would be leaderless. emoticon

Please send me a message if interested.

Thank you Hannah and thank you all!

Oh, NO, Hannah. How will I ever complete that trek to Alaska without you? I will miss you so much, but I know you are a very busy person.

Hope everyone else's week is blessed, and that they are gearing up for a Happy Thanksgiving.

Gearing up for the holiday week! Monday and Tuesday and half student days at school with the other half reserved for parent teacher conferences. I don't have many who sign up for meetings, but I get so much accomplished during the quieter time it is amazing!

We leave Wednesday to make our way down state for Thanksgiving with my aunt and uncle in Kittery. Is anybody else traveling?

No snow here either. I am glad that it is holding off. We did have a short spell of snow or sleet yesterday morning when the storm started, but it turned to rain and eventually washed all the accumulation off. I had another load of kitchen firewood delivered so am in the process of trying to get that undercover.

We had a terribly fire in this neighborhood this morning, but at least the homeowner made it out safely. I am afraid the home is a total loss though. Since I spent sometime outside making sure
that he had gotten out, etc. I smell very smoky.

Hope all is well with everyone in the group.

I am so sorry to hear that you have a family member with cancer. I say a prayer every night for all those affected by this dread disease. I also believe in the power of prayer (yes, sorry if this offends someone, but I also will not apologize for my beliefs). I will include your family in my prayers, and hope that they find the most effective treatment possible.

We are having snow here today, and managed to get some metal roofing picked up just as it started to snow.

Hope everyone is able to be safe in the weather today.

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask everyone that believes in the power of prayer to please pray for my family. I have a close family member that doesn't want mentioned online yet. We just (finally) got a reason for this terrible pain that has been going on for weeks getting steadily worse. Last night they told us its cancer but we have no idea how bad or to what extent yet. Please pray for us. God is powerful and capable of great things. If this offends anyone, disregard the request, I'm not apologizing though. I'm sorry I haven't been on in a while, but I've been pretty absorbed with things here.
Not sure when I'll be on again. If not for a while then I hope all of you have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I think a nap is in order today! I didnít sleep much last night, and havenít for the last week. Yesterday I helped a neighbor with a huge project of de-horning marking and worming a big bunch of cows. I got there at 11, and got home at 3:30, my feet were very cold! The cows were all separated but needed to be put in a holding pen, the heifers were very tricky, the last 5 were hard to get. It went quick for the amount of cows we did, 4 people all worked, they too turns in pairs doing the horns, that tool is huge, about 4í tall. I operated the gate to restrain the head, then marked the cow and wormed it, adjusting for weight each time, then released it. After heifers we did a bunch of big cows, they sure have a lot of power! After all that I didnít do much else but my chores, water is a problem outside now and takes longer.

I coughed half the night, going to take it easy today, freeze the last broccoli, and take care of some tomatoes, maybe make chicken soup!

Hoorah - No snow in this area from the storm yesterday. It is supposed to be a fairly clear day today with sun tomorrow so I just may make it out of town for the shopping trip I need to do. I believe a neighbor wants to go with me.

Today, I believe I have a person coming for a class in making reindeer from basket material. Then I have a meeting tonight--the last FCACA meeting before the craft fair in December. I expect we will receive a lot of applications for spaces tonight so that I will have a lot of work planning where everyone is going to be placed on the floor plan for this fair. My one big job for the year.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I grew up with wood heat and slept in footie pajamas and everyone had a nice flannel bathrobe too!

Yesterday after dinner we had a little while after dinner before heading out to a rehearsal so I sat down on the couch. HUGE mistake because I fell asleep! I think I could have slept the whole night through, but hubby woke me and we went to rehearsal. I was worthless during that time. I couldn't wake up, was groggy and in a funk! I went home and crashed. I am feeling much better this morning, but I know I still need a couple nights of real solid sleep to make sure I stay healthy!

Tonight I get to go home right after school. No rehearsals, what a relief! I do have things to get done at home, though like laundry and cleaning the furnace, but at least I will be home for the night!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Jenna - I know how hard it is to get out of a warm bed into a very cold room. Since I heat primarily with wood, but morning the fires are low or out completely. So far, the temperature hasn't dropped too low downstairs, but my bedroom upstairs has outside walls on three sides and it is usually very cold--especially on windy days. One of the first things I do each day after the dog has been walked and both she and the cats have been fed is to get the fires going again.

It doesn't look like we are going to get any snow from the storm that is currently off the coast, but it is possible we are going to get some Thursday. I certainly can wait as I would rather not have snow until just before Christmas.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, BARB! I'm with you on not being able to feel warm lately! I've been taking a hot water bottle to bed with me most of this week!

Eileen, Congrats on getting the firewood in. It is so hard to judge how much fuel we will need each year. We are thinking we need to get another ton of pellets in before the weather gets bad too.

I really struggled to get out of bed this morning. It was a SUPER busy weekend filled with multiple rehearsals, 3 musical performances and an orchestra concert. We've been gone so much the house hasn't really had the chance to warm through. I didn't want to get out from under the covers and put my feet on the cold floor this morning at all!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Barb -Old houses are drafty in the wind. I have one that is hard to heat when it is windy. Having
the front porch closed in has seemed to make a difference, but I still have to keep the wood furnace well stoked to stay warm.

Managed to get the rest of the firewood in today. Now I need to call and get another load delivered--actually I am thinking one more load for both the kitchen and the furnace. Knowing how much wood I have gone through just in the past week makes me think that I don't have enough to make it through till spring.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

That wind brought a lot of very cold, the highest gust on my weather station was 48 mph, the house doesnít stay very warm when it is that cold with wind. I had a sore throat last night and here I am with not feeling good again, second time in a few weeks. It has been years since I caught something, and now twice close together.

Rachelle, I too had a chocolate lab, he was the best, I still miss him, he has been gone for about 5 years. I couldnít think of getting another while I was working, but now I donít think I can afford one, maybe in a few years.

Rachelle - I have abandon all thought of trying to get my irises an other bulbs transplanted this fall. The man who rototilled he spot for them has assured me that he can re-rototill that spot next spring and I can try again. There is just too much I have to do getting firewood in to even think about the flowers.

I have been away today at a craft fair(very happy with the sales), and for that reason my young cat, Tabitha, will not leave me alone. In fact she is laying beside the computer. I couldn't figure out why I was having trouble getting capitals, etc. in this message until I noticed that she was laying partially on the keyboard. She is a little devil most of the time, but she and the dog really miss me when I am gone.

I have been up since around 4:00 this morning so at this point, I am exhausted.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend despite the cold.

Well friends, we spent Friday without power again. It felt so disheartening after going without the week before. There are apparently many lines that were still very tentative. I hope this isnít a preview of winter. I hope to finish up the irises this weekend and now the we have finally had a frost, to winterize my roses. I agree with everyone-I loved the warmth of our extended fall and I am having a tough time adjusting to the thought of cold. But it will be here soon!
Barb- Love the kitten. I love animals, but we havenít had any for a while. We had a chocolate lab for over 13 years and a Russian Blue cat for 18 years while the kids were growing up. Both were members of the family and it was tough when they went over the rainbow bridge. As my job became more involved, we decided not to get another pet, as DH and I were the only ones here and often not home. Now that I am home more, I have been thinking about how nice it would be to have a friend to pet again. My GD is always sending me pictures of dogs from the shelter to push along my thinking.
Eileen- I think I will be separating bulbs forever! There are tons of baby shoots. I think there will be plenty for the spring plant sale.
Jenna- Sending best wishes with the musical. I have been part of our local performance group for many ears and I know how time consuming that can be, so hats off to you! Annie is such a great production. I am sure everyone will enjoy it.
Enjoy the weekend everyone.

It is a beautiful, but very cold day here today. I have three people coming for a basket class in a few minutes and I am optimistic that this class will go forward without further problems. It has been scheduled two times previous to today, but because of the power outages in some of the participant's homes and other problems it has been rescheduled until today. I will be glad to have it finally happen.

Have a great day everyone.

The hard frosts have become consistent, that's for sure! I got my studs on yesterday and hubby will have his put on today. We are supposed to get a couple inches tomorrow morning. We will see. I always dread the first few times it snows because people forget how to drive in it!!

Evening rehearsals are going well! Tomorrow we don't have school, but hubby needs to get some blood work done and then we have rehearsal form 9-2 and then the show opens at 7 so it will be a busy day anyway!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

We were blessed with such an extended summer and long fall that this last two weeks of rain and cool weather is harder to adjust to. After the rain, many of our days have been grey and that is so disheartening. But, today the sun is bright and my spirits are also. Hope you all have a great day.

It is so hard trying to adjust to he weather changes most years, and it has been particularly difficult this year with the huge swings from really warm to bone chilling cold from one day to the next. I had an early appointment this morning and had to thaw my windshield before I could leave. Wore a heavy sweater with a fleece vest and was not really cold, but the down jacket is going to have to come out soon.

My young cat is being particularly trying this morning, in that she has walked across the computer keyboard and turned off the mail folder at least once which mean I have to go through the steps to open the folder again. I don't like to have the folded automatically so I have to type in my mail address then my password anytime it gets shut down.

Have great day.

Mornin!

Sure is cold out there this morning! Another busy day up here with teaching followed by a workout in the gym, dinner brought to me by hubs and then musical rehearsal! The mechanic didn't quite make it to my car yesterday to switch my tires so he will take it first thing this morning. As a result I have hubby's car and I looked down on my way to school this morning so I had to swing in and fill it up. I wasn't dressed warm enough for that!!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Pets are such a large part of my life also. I enjoy my cat's foolishness in the morning as she wants me out of bed so she can lay where the bed is the warmest. I am accommodating most days.

Yes, Jenna I have both a dog and a cat that like to crawl under the covers when it is really cold.
It gets a little dicey if they both want to be in the same spot under the covers, but they usually will share the bed quite well. I sometimes have one against the front of me and one at my back. I stay quite warm that way.

Don't forget to get out and vote today!

I can tell the nights are getting colder because our kitty is trying to hog the bed! LOL She slept at my feet pretty much the whole night (which I actually love) and then woke me bright and early this morning with what I call the 'burrow battle'. I like the covers tucked right in around me nice and tight, but she wants to burrow down in for warmth. She will headbutt me or playfully paw at me until she finds an opening to snuggle in.

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Have a good week, Jenna, with your preparations for the musical. It sounds like you are on top of the food issues with your busy lifestyle.

Barb - I hear what you are talking about with the soggy earth from all the rain. After being so
dry for so long, to have this much rain in a short period of time is making the ground so soft. I had a man here last week to clean my chimneys and his vehicle left definite impressions in my back lawn. Then a couple of days later I had a cord of wood delivered for the kitchen stove and
the truck and trailer with that made more impressions as it backed up as close to my steps as
possible. I am sure it will take awhile for them to disappear.

Have a great week everyone.

Morning! I'm running behind today so I don't have long to type but we are gearing up for one of our busiest weeks of the year getting the high school ready to put on their musical. They are doing Annie this year. It will be a week of not getting home until well after 9pm and having to be out the door by 6.30am. I have soup in the crock pot and we did some other food prep yesterday so that we won't have to rely on fast food.

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Rachelle - You are making me feel very guilty as I, too, have irises that need to be dug up and broken up along with all my daffodils and tulips. That whole garden needs to be dug up and relocated about ten feet to get it further away from the road where the current garden gets covered with snow and the road salt when the town plows. Problem is, I also have firewood that needs to be moved into the shed for the kitchen stove. Had a cord delivered on Friday and requested another cord to be delivered very soon. Since it will be put in an unheated shed I need to get all the wood inside before it is covered with any snow or ice. I wish I could clone myself so that One of my clones could be working on product for the next craft fair, one clone doing housework, and another on getting the wood under cover. There is no question how I will be getting my exercise for a few days.

Glad you got your power back finally! Seems like this was the slowest to revive power there has ever been.

Eileen, the new kitten is going to be a barn kitten, usually I have barn cats for years, Dundee is 10 years old, and Tiger is probably the same age, but neither of them go downstairs in the stable area. Since I lost Frannie, who was 25, I didnít have any cats downstairs. This summer I lost Jasper Mouse and Clio, Clio about 3 weeks ago, I am not sure if he got hit by a car or something else, he had not a mark on him. So I am back to no cats in the stable area. This is a stray that a neighbor trapped for me, there are a couple others that he is trying to catch. I set my nieces to finding a name for her.

Hi all. We finally got power back about 8:30 tonight. Rita's town was hit pretty hard as well. There ae still many around me without power, especially anyone who has problems with their home feed. We had an awful mess on our road, with multiple poles needing repair. It was such a relief to get it back today.

Started breaking up my irises today. What a tedious job! I am planning to give most to our annual plant sale. Not sure where i will put the new garden yet.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Hard to believe we're thinking about thanksgiving already.

Such a pretty kitten, Barb. At this point I have two cats and that is enough for me since my youngest one is a devil who finds really creative ways to entertain herself and drive me bonkers.

Exhausted right now from doing a craft fair today. I sold he corn arrangement in the picture I posted plus another one I put to together so happy with the outcome.

Eileen, I have done that too with shingles, but I canít do it on the ramp out to the manure pile because the cows woul most probably eat them and I canít imagine it would be good for them.
I did use unplained lumber making it, but it still gets slippery. It is shady area so it doesnít dry well. The other day I threw some rock salt on it, but that was probably a mistake because the cows thought it was delicious, better then the mineral block apparently, I had to chase them off each time I went out the door lol.

It did warm up a lot over last night and today, the wind is really blowing out there tonight.

Did Ritaís area lose their power? Sometimes she doesnít check in, but it would be nice to know.

Hope you have power by now Rachelle. Rita has not checked in here for some time, I hope she is OK and has weathered the storm without problems.

Barb - I had a very slippery entrance ramp into my barn, and had asphalt shingles nailed to it. It took care of the problem, and since I had a part bundle of shingles that weren't going to be used (I have all metal roofing now), it was an easy fix.

Hope everyone is having a great day. It is very warm here today, but I guess the cold is one its way.

It is hard to believe that people still donít have power in this day and age, I hope the ones that donít can stay warm.

Rainy day again today, I am going to tackel a sheep pen anyway, I need to put some salt or sand on the ramp, it is slippery when wet.

I have missed checking in to see how everyone is making out. I am currently at Starbucks, taking advantage of their WiFi as I sip my coffee.

I still do not have power. Rita lives in the town next to me, so I wonder how she is doing. On Monday, we had trees blocking every route out of town so we were stuck. A power line blocked a major route, meaning we had to travel to Richmond to head back to Topsham. DH and DS had to leave extra early to get to work. Crews finally removed the downed power line that was across the road. I think I heard a collective cheer from town members. I am hoping that I will have power when I return home.

Hope everyone is doing well and is enjoying a warm home with power! I will catch up as soon as I am online again.

Another rainy day here. I need to get baskets ready for a craft fair this weekend so I don't mind that we are getting the rain we have been missing for so long. If any of you are close enough to Farmington, there is a big craft fair in the Student Center at UMF (over 80 spaces filled with craft persons). It is from 9:00 until 2:00. If you do come to it, I will be in the North Dining Hall located in the left hand corner as you face the back of the room. Would love to see some of you.

Good Thursday Morning!

I hope folks are staying warm if they are without heat! I haven't heard from my parents since Monday night. They were supposed to leave to head to Florida yesterday, but I'm not sure if they were able to finish winterizing the house without power. I think I will try to get a hold of a neighbor of theirs to go check on the house. They have cell phones, but only turn them on to make a call! I understand the need to conserve at a time like this, but I also want to hear from them!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Weighing on the time change discussion. I prefer having the light earlier. But either way I wish the powers that be would do away with having us change the times. It's hard on our systems.

To weigh in on the time change discussion, I find stumbling around the first thing in the morning with my dog is very hard. She needs to go out around 6:00 and since she is trained to go out
into the field for her bodily functions, I either have to use a flashlight as I follow her (she is on a retractable leash) or hope that there is enough light to see where I am going. Don't like the dark evenings either, but I guess we can't have more than twelve hours of daylight year round.

The dark evenings bother me more, I tend to want to quit doing things early.

Happy November. I am grateful for a nice warm home.

I don't know about you folks, but I am really struggling with these dark mornings! It is really sucking the drive out of me for the rest of the day. I know it means darker evenings, but I'm ready for the time change.

Stay safe!
