I went to the gym, but before I could even walk a mile on the track my children were ready to leave....disappointing, but I was just able to do thirty minutes on the stationary bike...felt good now a shower and to bed!

My knees & ankles didn't feel too well today, but I still went to the gym. 15 minutes stair master, 15 minutes treadmill.

Considering that today is my "day off", i'm glad I still went even if it was only a short time.

Strength training is easier for me than cardio exercise. I use the strength training program every day on Spark people. I have liked some of the exercises so much that now instead of alternating days I do them every day. emoticon

I had 2 choices: spend money at the restaurant or get the monthly membership. Soo glad I chose the second one!

Since I am starting to commute back and forth from my place to my bf's (1 hr), I dont want to miss workout sessions so I decided to get a month membership at the gym here this morning so we can go together. I'll see how it goes for a month. It might get too expensive, so my backup plan is to leave my weights and workout dvd here!

30 mins on the treadmill - jog
10 mins - 10% incline
15 mins -stretching

Bootcamp class was a challenging yesterday, so I went easy today.

HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND EVERYONE!

I did strength training 4 times this week along with my cardio. I am limited on the upper and core plans so I got the ball to help with my balance. I am beginning to like strength over treadmill.

I did strength training on Monday on my own and on Wednesday with a trainer. However, due to a knee injury I have to do mostly upper body which can be a challenge. I am still sore from Wednesday's workout but if I had the time and money I would train with my trainer more often because I really get a lot out of it.

Was away at the beginning of the week so exercise was gentle, eg walking. I have managed to do 30 minutes for each day I have been back and also 10 minute stretching.

Eating not quite back to plan as we got waylaid last night and had to have a MacDonalds. I carried on eating lots of fruit and drinking plenty of water whilst I was away.

I have been doing my Wii Active 30 min workouts. There is this one exercise called the squats with calf raises - let me tell you by the time I get to #8 I am just praying to make it thru the next 4.
I alternate that with my "walk it out" program and the olympic challenge program on here. I can already feel myself getting stronger in just 2 wks and I always hated exercise.
I make myself exercise when my feet hit the floor at 5 am before that first cup of coffee. If not I talk myself into waiting till that evening and then I am too tired. these groups are what has kept me motivated and going. thanks everyone.

I made it to the gym yesterday. Just started strength training to help recover upper body strength from a bout of mono, so this challenge is good for me. I have that great slightly sore muscle feeling that you get the day after a session. Hopefully I will make it again tomorrow or Friday.

Keep your head up ENURSERN! There are a number of things that could be causing you to feel so icky. Just keep putting that foot one step forward! Great Job pushing through!

2/15 = 60 min lower body circuit training for strength

2/16 = 60 min water aerobics w/ weights & 60 min latin dancing aerobics.

Everyday may be a struggle but remember your working on the next day's accomplishment.

This is the perfect challenge this week. Had my first doctor appt since I re-started in January. The doctor was thrilled and even asked for information on the website for his other patients which of course I left with him including some info on the THE SPARK book.

But back to the challenge I went over the strength training exercises with him because I am having alittle problem with pain with the side I have had the most surgery done. He was able to make some suggestions that should make it less painful till I build the muscle and strength back up. He recommends I use the bands and also with one lb weights like I did in physical therapy. He reminded me that the slow steady turtle is always the winner.

This is a great challenge! I was previously in the habit of doing strength training 2-3 times per week but since I have started running I found myself focusing completely on cardio and on learning to run. This will enable me to start to add some ST back into my routine. Thanks for the gentle push. I needed it!

I look forward to my strengtrh training! Yesterday I did upper body on a combination of universal gym machine, free weights and floor. Today is core, and tomorrow is lower. Then I start the cycle again. The core is my least favorite, so my goal for today is to find different exercises and change up the routine to make it more fun!

Worked out with my trainer tonight. I switched gyms - he does basic exercises but man I sweat like nobody's business in a 30 minute session. I'm still getting used to the way he trains (this is session #3). Now my arms are dead. Good thing I don't have to move them very much to type.

He incorporates ab routines with his shoulder, arms, bicep, tricep routine... so when my time was almost up we did planks. I had to remember to suck in stomach so everything doesn't hit my lower back. I made that mistake one time and that's all it took.

I got through my 30 minutes today. Can't wait for Thursday's session!

This week's heart healthy challenge seems to be an amazing timely one again for me, just as the first two were!

I had recently really started slacking on my strength training to skipping it entirely... and when I read this week's challenge, I had to sort of laugh to myself, feeling like someone UP there is giving me a kick in the butt to get back on track for HEALTH if nothing else. A lot of people in this house NEED me to be healthy and I would feel terrible if I let them down by being lazy and selfish.

I read the extra article on WHY Everyone Needs to STrength Train that was linked (got 3 extra sparkpoints for it too : ) and that proved to be even more inspiration and movitation to get back on track.

I will BE SURE TO MEET this challenge this week, for myself AND my family.

I need this challenge because strength training is definitely the easiest thing for me to talk myself out of doing. I have lower body/core workout planned for tomorrow morning.

I definitely need to do better with strength training. I attend an aerobics class about every other week. It is a step aerobics class and it kicks my butt. The instructor does it in intervals and we do upper body strength exercises with weights in between the bursts of step aerobics throughout the hour. I definitely feel it about 24 hours later.

emoticon for this challenge. I already have a strength training routine outlined on my fitness page, but I haven't been at all faithful to do it! emoticon
Yesterday was an unintended day off for just about everything. Now it's back to it so I don't lose all that progress I've made!
emoticon Blessings! emoticon emoticon

2/21/10 so much for good intentions...this has been a week of inertia for me...my "body at rest" has remained at rest...I'll work on this challenge as well as the sodium this week.
2/22/10 emoticon I did it! My first strength training routine! Next scheduled date is Wednesday! (Also met most of my nutrition goals and did 130 minutes of cardio...daily step total 11,819 emoticon emoticon )

2/24/10 emoticon I'm on my way. Day 2 of strength training completed...I increased the weights a bit, too... emoticon

I struggle with strength training. I just dont like it! I have been in and out of physical therapy for 12 years due to my ankle, so I know how important it is, I just hate it! However, I love how strong I feel after the workout! Last week I did two strength training workouts.. WOOHOO!

One thing that worked for me in the past... a dvd that does it all in one workout 3x a week. I still hate it, but it helps me to do it!

I too, struggle with strength training, but after attending a fitness/nutrition seminar last January led by Dr. William Evans and Nancy Clark, I know it must become an integral part of my life. In many ways, it is equally important as cardio activity, but something many of us try to avoid.

I agree with Shapechanger. Our walks w/Leslie is great with the weights and bands and belt.
I do Wii Fit and Jillian Fit 2010. Both are fun & great to do. I do 5 or 6 days each week. It depends on how many mins.

Strength training is STILL something I struggle with...not doing it once I start, but just remembering to fit it in! I did well during the Spark Your Body Boot Camp, and I made a plan to continue, based on that schedule and combining SP videos and my own free weight routines. I've been better at sticking to it, but there is room for improvement. I (try to) train lower, upper, core 2 days each, alternating days. Sunday is rest. I use free weights and my weight bench, resistance bands, the stability ball, other cables/bands with various dvds, most notably the Walk At Home dvds which incorporate light resistance training into a lot of the walks. Getting strong, being strong, is a wonderful thing emoticon

I have started using the bands and now I am going to start using the balance ball. My sister is threatening to tape it...due to my lack of coordination...(LOL)

I do Tai Chi before I do my treadmill, but that counts as cardio. Working on strengthening my chest and arms since I have been so restricted on what exercises I could do this last year.

I walk a lot wearing a pedometer. It's kind of neat to keep track and see how much you walk like in a month or year.
I also use the resistance bands. I got them when I did Nicole's Boot camp swimsuit last April. I still do the exercises and they work!

Resistance bands are inexpensive and provide a GREAT strength training routine, especially as we get older.

I used to do strength training on the machines at the gym and I really enjoyed it, but I haven't been to the gym in years. I do the treadmill at home. I guess I'll have to join the gym again, or just use the hand weights that I have. I know strength training is important for a lot of reasons.
