I don't have too many problems that are stress-related. If I do find myself getting stressed, I stop and take it to God. I also love to read and do crossword and suduku puzzles. This also helps me relax.

Today was a bit of a stressor for me, but it was a good stress. My son and my niece threw my husband anad I a birthday party. What a wonderful day.

I've been able to try and stay stress faith by staying strong in my faith and praying to God.
During the week an emergency came up and I was unable to workout in the middle of my week but when I went back last night at the end of this week it felt so good- really de-stressed me.

I would like to work out 5-6 days a week with a minimum of 30 mins. its just that sometimes the weather and college gets in the way so I make sure when to do the lil things that count such as I took the stairs at the doctors instead of the elevator and I also moved my workout time to 45mins. level 7 on cycling. SO I try to incorporate other things if my daily schedule doesn't let me work out 5 days a week.

I will make an effort to minimize the stress in my life. Since stress does have a way of just showing up what's the best solutions thought of to deal with it when it does show up?

Being a college student, having a brother that has mild autism and me and my mother having medical conditions of our own to deal with plus so many other factors deff does not qualify me as a stress free person but I get by with the grace of God.

I pray that everyones stress will be lightened this month and we find ways how to deal with it in our everyday lives.

I took my grandson to see "The Goats Gruff". It was a children's play but was great fun. Lots of laughs. Stress goes away when you laugh.

I did 80 minutes of cardio - 20 jog, 60 walk. Didn't get finished until late and then relaxed in a lavendar bath. Now off to bed soon!

I had to laugh when I checked back in here tonight - I had a busy, kind of stressful week, and forgot what the topic was here! In spite of not remembering, I did what I could to follow the program. What probably helped the stress was trying to eat right, exercising, reading my scriptures, praying, and spending as much time here at Spark with my new friends as I could. I'm so grateful for it!!

I did 30 minutes of strength training, and had a wonderful time at my sons soccer game. I was able to catch up with friends at his game. It was so good to get out for a visit after so much snow!

Since I am not working right now, sometimes it is an effort to move! Also, being alone, there is not one pushing me to move it! I am making sure I get some fresh air every day (brrrr) and exercise at least 6 days a week. This in turn helps me to sleep at night, instead of being on the computer at 3 a.m.
Also, plan on watching my favorites at the Olympics, which I really enjoy.

I have a lot of trouble in this area too. I'm always putting off exercise because other things have to be done. I agree with you when you say just do the best you can with the time you have.
As for me, I just need to take a little time to take care of myself by exercising more.

Exercise is my stress reliever. So far this week I've been shoveling several hours a day to keep the snow cleared out of my driveway and sideways. In addition I've been shoveling the neighbor's as well since he broke his ankle in the Dec snow storm.

Walking is the other way that I relieve stress. Been walking around the neighborhood for exercise and just to get out of the house. Had a dental appointment this week and it's a good thing that they were within walking distance. Love my neighborhood because everything is within a reasonable walking distance from the house - library, grocery store, dentist and just a bit further is the doctor.

At the moment I'm watching the neighbors try to dig the tow truck out of the snow. The next door neighbor called them to get their car out of the snow, but we were able to dig him out. Not long after, the tow truck arrived and it's been about an hour that they've been trying to get the truck unstuck. Well, they finally got it unstuck I think.

Still working on the exercise and toning. I am not sure that I am doing the stress-relieving part as well. I am still doing my daily bible readings and read a book before going to sleep. This helps me sleep a lot better.

I have had a driving lesson today and was quite nervous (the first one in nearly 20 years) but not nearly as bad as I once would have been. I think making time for exercise has helped me in the stress areas.

Tomorrow is another first, I am having low-lights put in my hair. I am a red-head but lately for whatever reason my hair has gone really dark and I want a little colour to lighten it up again. I am nervous but looking forward to the change.

The last 30 days have been some of the most stressful in many years for me. I'm working out, eating healthy, trying to get enough sleep, talking to friends, journaling on occassion, and doing things that I know make me feel good. (Hot baths, reading books, seeing movies, etc.)

Everyday is a process of trying to balance my stress levels.

hi sandie724 Welcome to our team. Divorce is like the grief we feel when our husbands die. I know about that because my first husband died of cancer at 43. It is always stressful. Just remember, you will get better and better. It sounds like you are making the positive moves to get on with your life. You go girl.

Hello all - new to the team. I just started back at the gym & dieting and it feels great. I'm newly divorced, which can cause a lot of stress, however, I am dealing with it well by talking to my mom and sister whenever I need to. Exercising helps with the stress a lot as well. Good luck to you all & keep up the good work!

This week, I practiced self talk alot. Everytime I started thinking about my work project, I'd tell myself there was nothing I could do about it now, so stop thinking about it. Fortunately, I was able to move forward on the project relieving some of the stress anyway. I find that my evening gym routines give me time to relax and let the stress go, especially if I end it with water aerobics.

This is an area I really need to improve upon - I let myself get very stressed over things all too often. Work is usually the biggest culprit. There's always something that HAS to get done. I've decided it's time for me to stop trying to do it all perfectly, and just do the best I can with the time available.

EarthAngel2B. I am so proud of you for taking the necessary steps to be there for your family and have a long and healthy life. It is not easy admitting we need help. Especially through pills. At least I do. I HATE taking medicine, but I do it every day (for different reasons) so I can be the wife, daughter, friend that everyone deserves.
Blessings upon you.

2/13/10 Stress level still pretty good until we were driving down a twisty mountain road to church-league volleyball. Although DH is a good driver, I noticed my fists were clenched both on the way there and on the way home. Ah, well! Life happens! Overall, my stress level is better! emoticon Thanks for this challenge!

2/12/10 They did go to school today although 2 hours late. More snow due by Sunday afternoon, and looks like it's a good thing Monday's a holiday! Stress level not bad today.

2/11/10 school still closed...wonder if they'll get to go tomorrow? Stress level still pretty good emoticon This "exercise thingy" really does help!

2/10/10 stress level pretty low despite school closing at 11:30 yesterday and remaining closed today 40 minutes Wii Fit Tennis

2/9/10 40 minutes Wii Fit Plus balance activities; 35 minutes Wii Tennis; 35 minutes Wii Bowling; 16 minutes Wii Fit Plus Free Run

2/8/10 about 2.5 miles walking today

Today I realized I was putting UNDUE extra stress on myself by insisting that I do NOT take the cholesterol/triglyceride meds my dr. has wanted to put me on for over 3mos. now BECAUSE I wanted to fix it w/diet and exercise myself w/ no meds. She tried to explain to me that a large part of mine is heriditary and I can't fix them GOOD ENOUGH to make me not need the meds but she agreed to give me 3 mos so she could prove it to me. I've been SO stressed out trying to lose weight AND fix my numbers and then I saw an ad yesterday that mentioned IF YOU ARE WAITING TO TALK TO YOUR DR. AND GET MEDS FOR YOUR CHOLESTEROL/TRIGLYERCIDES WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? A HEART ATTACK!? 80% of the people who suffer a stroke or heart attack have high cholesterol low good cholesterol high triglycerides. OH MY GOSH I feel like that couldn't happen to me, BUT everyone feels like that and IF IT DID I would never forgive myself for making my husband and kids suffer when I COULD have done something about it.
TODAY I STARTED TAKING ZOCOR as my dr. wanted me to for months now and instead of feeling defeated, I decided to be proud of it. I will STILL try to make my numbers better with diet and exercise TOO though. : )

IF YOU ARE WAITING... PLEASE DONT WAIT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE!

I refuse to be stressed over being snowed in. 14 inches last weekend plus 7 last night plus a couple this afternoon and a blizzard warning this evening.
I'm safe, warm, have my kitties, my walking video and know enough to stop shoveling after about 45 - 60 min.
And since I've started on this healthy journey - I am so much fitter!
I'm remembering how Coach Nicole reminds me to hold my tummy in when exercising to support my back - so I'm doing that when shoveling and I think it's helping.
Woo Hoo!
Stay well.

WOWZERS!!

Prayers going up for everyone, for whatever your stressors may be.

We all have stressors...good ones and bad ones. It's when there are too many at once that our bodies and mental health suffer.

Great tips across the board on how to manage stress.

I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder in my late 20's; suicidal depression last year; Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2006; I have permanent nerve damage to my back and legs; I went on disability early in 2009, then found out I was allowed to work 4 days a month (YAY!) I do love my job!!

I am now cancer free; I no longer take any meds for depression or anxiety; I know I physically can't work 2 days in a row, so 1 day a week is enough - for now :) And the little bit of extra income that that generates enables me to purchase extras that I wouldn't be able to purchase on a fixed income.

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!!

My faith is what gets me through the stressful times...and reaching out to friends of like mind. Having those prayer warriors at my back is the greatest feeling in the world! There is nothing my God cannot do!!

~pk~

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son. Revelation 21:7
Dieting makes me a spiritual overcomer as well as a physical overcomer!

Maybe I should try the star idea... I just might do that.. I'm definitely running out of excuses for being late.. this morning I told them that I got two bloody noses and that's why I was late.. There is so much wrong with that, mostly though its because I'm christian and lying is terrible I shouldn't be putting myself in a situation where I feel I need to lie so I don't get in trouble. I think that the guilt is really what gets me into it and then it sits with me all day.. Thanks for the support ECLAIREP!

I have the same problem! Being late for work. And I feel guilty because I have passed it on to my daughter, who had become even worse than I am--later, I mean. But she has turned over a new leaf and is inspiring me. (she is paid hourly so makes more $ if she's on time) I started putting a gold star on my calendar every day I'm on time. So far, 4 x this year... not too impressive when I see it in print... but at least I'm not AS LATE on the days I don't get a star.

Worked out yesterday for 60 mins so met my quota :) tonight I'll work out for another 60!

Currently I'm dealing w/ stress in the form of timeliness... I am late to work almost every day. It's been something I've struggled with in the past and thought I had conquered but recently changed jobs and everyone is laid back here so I take advantage and it stresses me out! I need to be more intentional in the mornings and get to work on time!

Everyday may be a struggle but remember your working on the next day's accomplishment.

Finished a 25 min jog/35 minute walk this morn, then strength training and stretching. I heard a wonderful quote this morn on the Today show. Lera Williams, 100 years old, said she thought the reason she's had such a long, healthy life is that she doesn't worry like old people do. How profound! I commit to not worrying like old people do. Probably need to put this in more positive words to make it my affirmation, but that's the gist of it.

Stress.... since I have a desk job just getting up and walking down the hall helps. When I got really stressed out yesterday it was time for me to leave work and I went straight to the gym and sweated the stress and frustration away. It was great. I have to remember when I get stress to step away from the computer, emails, and everything else and take a quick brisk walk outside or just around the building. A person's perspective changes when you force yourself to walk away for a few minutes. All the emails, computer, and the phone are will still be there. when you come back your attitude changes a little about everything.

Also I'm three for three on working out at least 30 minutes per day. Woohoo!

I read about the challenge before we went out of town, and being away for a long weekend, it gave me time to think about 'stress'! I know stress comes in all forms, shapes, and size, etc.
I am retired and would think I have no stress in my life. My DH and I are truly blessed in where we are in our lives. So I guess the 'stress' I experience is of a minimal nature and would come from the family and problems that crop up now and then.

So far today
shoveling snow-----40 minutes
strength exercising 50minutes
I'm still doing steps for today
As for stress, the biggest problem is the snow we have gotten and the more that is on the way, shoveling is a good cardio, but the b anks of snow are getting so high for this year I can barely throw the snow over them, and it isn't melting any here yet either.

I have enjoyed reading all the post about stress. Thank you for sharing!! I really like the article that was posted! I tend to become stuck when I am stressed and just can't do anything, which sometimes adds to my stress. I do tend to eat more when I am stressed. Exercise does help but I have been having a hard time getting back into my exercise program since christmas. I also have gained a few pounds which has put a damper on my motivation. This week I as going to read more articles on stress and make a plan for how I am going to reduce my stress in the future. I am also going to reach my exercise goals.

I shoveled snow today, driveway and sidewalks. Filled the bird feeders and called it enough. This is a low stress time for me as not working right now. When I get back to work in the spring it is much more stressful.

I went for a walk this morning for 49 minutes. Since the snowstorm hit over the weekend, this was my first walk outside and it was very pleasant to stretch my legs out. That helped my stress level and I re-organized my kitchen pantry, which made me feel much better. I get stressed when I see clutter.

Hi All, this is a great challenge. I found a booka the library that really helps with this. It's called Wellness Workbook authors are John Travis MD and Regina Ryan. I explains how to make make changes in you life to help live better. I've been doing a combination of walking the treadmill 30 er day (at least 5 days per week) + doing 30- 60 minutes of yoga for stress release and/or relaxation 3 times per week along with daily bubble baths. It seems to help. Posting on SP daily helps to remind me that I am taking care of myself and that's a new thing for me. Good luck to all! I've only lost 3 pounds, but I measured yesterday and have lost 2.5 inches from my hips alone emoticon

This week's challenge on stress is so much more important than I would bet most people give it credit for. Stress can affect our PHYSICAL bodies and cause illness and even disease and is hard on our hearts AND weight loss.

Losing weight can be difficult enough for the average person, but then those of us who suffer from things like bi polar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorder etc, have a whole extra load of heaviness to overcome and where as someone else may hit a rough patch in their weight loss and brush themselves off, sometimes we CAN do that and sometimes it can send us spinning in a downward spiral of a deeply depressive episode and hopelessness.

Knowing ourselves and practicing new ways to get through those times and setting up a CONSISTENT and LOYAL support system is VITAL. HUGS.

When possible, I will get off the bus a stop earlier to get a bit of a cool down walk after work. I have recently joined a yoga class and do a couple movements to slow my brain down before my breathing exercises at night. Stretching and reading a light book are also on my list of destressors. It helps me quite a bit to reduce the smog of stress that seems to be my life these past few months.

Walked to the grocery store today to restock before the next storm comes through tomorrow afternoon. Beside the AM exercises, walking to and from the grocery store was our adventure for the day. We walked in the street most of the way because the sideways were either still snow covered or slippery, so safer to walk in the street. Lots of people out walking to the grocery store and most cars driving slowly and safely. Some were even polite enough to let us cross the street safely. There were just one or 2 idiots speeding on the icy streets.

For me exercise is a great stress reliever and makes me feel great when I'm finished.

Looks like I will be getting more exercise shoveling snow tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday. I'm ready for sun and warmth.

Stress - what a great topic! This represents a nice growth opportunity for me. I tend to be sensitive, but I think a LOT of my reactivity to stress has to do with expectations (otherwise known as planned resentments). I like a lot of what I've read here about exercise, sleep, and relationship with God.

One breakthrough I've had recently has been to recognize and accept when I'm involved in a "game" as opposed to a relationship with common purpose and mutual commitment. In relationships, problems come up - you can talk about them, solve the problem, hug and make up.

In a "game," the "problem" is not solvable; the communication isn't honest, open, and direct; respect is absent; the desire isn't to cooperate, it's to win. Whenever a situation is making me feel nutsy, I need to check to see whether it's a solvable problem or a game. If it's solvable, I can solve it and move on. If it's a game, I have other choices.

Bottom line: if it's not promoting my health and happiness, do I really want to keep playing?

Peace, y'all!

Sorry to hear about your struggles, Nancy. I hope that you find strength in dealing with this challenges.

Yes, doing exercise, definitely helps our stress levels. I sometimes need to leave the house and walk, just to think and relieve some tension. It certainly works and I get my cardio in. It's a win-win situation.

Blessings to you and prayers for your family!

I have a lot of things in my life that would cause stress but i make sure that i do certain things every day that help me relax and not stress out. For instance, i listen to calming music, work on crafts especially cross stitch, go for a walk, read something whether book or magazine, talk to friends online, journal or watch a funny movie. It varies day to day, but I always get 1 or 2 of those things in every day.

the past week i've been sick with a nasty cold so i just let myself relax til today when i actually had energy to move and could breath. to help with the stress of being ill i spent a lot of time reading and working on my cross stitch. things that are not strenuos or hard to do.
