they sell ankle straps or you can make one. I took and old knee high sock and cut the top off and about 2 inches of the sock. then a clipped a few of the stitches in the cuff/welt. I take the strap off and just tuck the pod in and wear it on my ankle. It actually count the steps better. I am not allowed to wear anything on my wrist at work.

The fitbit will count your steps by your arm movement. If you are holding on to something while walking or jogging then it will not count that as a step.

Thank you everyone for the info. I might try the ankle trick.

I have the same problem of my fitbit Versa does not recognize my steps when I am shopping and pushing a cart. I have put my fitbit around my ankle or in my pocket.

I have a Fitbit Versa, and it does record most of the steps and time I spend on the treadmill if I go 4.3 mph or better. My previous Fitbit did not record my steps on the treadmill, and only did it on the elliptical (where I use my arms) if I programmed it before getting on the machine. I have never tried putting the Fitbit on my shoe, foot, etc. I did wear a pedometer on for years, and it did not always record my steps/time. If your Fitbit isn't working on the treadmill, I think it is a good idea just to figure out how much you are doing based on the mph and time.

I just hold on with the hand without the fitbit when I walk on the treadmill. I walk at 3.3 mph for 40 minutes. That puts me at a little over 2 miles.

If you put the Fit bit on your ankle it will count steps of that foot, but not all, depending on your Fitbit from half to most of the movement of that foot. I know at best you are getting halve your steps, I ride faster then I walk, so time wise it comes out close

the fit bits you wear on wrist only count the steps if you are moving your arm. I don't know what kind if Fitbit you have but all fit bits will count steps if the Fitbit is on your ankle, but it it is hard to get them too do HR. Most will count steps in your pocket, but the closer the Fitbit is to your hip the better. I wear mine on my ankle. Most of the time I put it in my sock, sometimes I wear and ankle band

My Fitbit does recognize the steps I do on the treadmill, and I mostly hold on to the handles. But, I do go a bit faster -- 4.2 - 4.5 mph. Not sure it would do so if I went slower.

Question-Does the Fitbit recognize exercise minutes on the treadmill if you are holding onto the handles?
I have an older Fitbit flex and it counted the steps (but maybe not all of them) as I was on the treadmill for 21 minutes at 3.6 mph and it did not count any exercise minutes. I have to hold on while I walk because of my balance.
