I was supposed to do the Lost Dutchman Half Marathon today, but I have a really bad cold and just didn't feel like I could manage it. No point making myself worse, either. Instead I'll hope I am feeling better for next weekend's sprint triathlon, the first for 2014.

I did the JCC Scottsdale Sprint Triathlon this morning. Beautiful day for it - sunny and warm, with just a slight breeze. I got third in my age group again, which sounds great until you find out there were only three of us in the 55-59 group. Even so, I was very pleased because I improved my times in all three disciplines as compared to the same event last year. I took 15 seconds off my swim, 21 seconds off my bike and an amazing 4:55 off my run time! The run time is the most gratifying for me, because that is the part I always find the hardest.

I did an 8 mile run today, and then later went and watched a bit of the bike portion of the Ironman Arizona. The bike course was not too far from my house, so went there to watch and get some pictures. Congrats to all the athletes doing the race today!

Got in an Olympic distance triathlon spread over the last three days - 1700 m swim, 24 mile bike and 6.2 mile run. Now I just have to put them all together on one day a week from today.

I had planned to do a triathlon this weekend, but I didn't feel ready for the swim. It is an open water 750 m swim, and I have only done a couple of open water swims previously. I decided not to do the triathlon, but I went to the pool at my local YMCA and just started swimming. I wanted to see how much I could do. Now, it is much different swimming in a 25 yd pool instead of a lake or some other open water, but I did 1600 yards with no real difficulty. This has got me thinking I may try for a pool swim Olympic distance triathlon at the end of October. We'll see.

I ran the Arizona Road Racers' Summer Series #1 5K race this morning over in Papago Park by the zoo. A little warm, but otherwise a great day for it, and the orthotics seemed to work pretty well.

Today I'm trying to recover from 2 hard runs over the weekend. I did a trail run on Saturday, and a hilly Lost Dutchman Half Marathon on Sunday, and I'm really paying for it. The quads are killing me! However, I still hope to get a couple hours on the treadmill desk today.

The New Years to Valentine's challenge has finally caught up with me I guess. I have lost 2 lbs since it has been over. That makes a 3 1/2 lbs lost since New Years Day! And a Grand total of 24 lbs lost since mid-July!!

The best part is I feel better than I have felt in a long time!! Woo Hoo

Today I walked 100 stairs at work (5 flights). This is a new goal that I have set for myself at work. I am tring to incorporate small bursts of exercise during the day at work to help with the sitting all day.

Today I have walked 60 stairs at work, done 30 wall pushups in my office and have logged 3298 steps on my pedometer. My goals is to exceed 11,000 steps today.

Today, I did the Day 20 video workout of the SP Body Challenge. The videos killed me on week 1, got a little easier on week 2 and I was able to do them better and this week, I am doing the hard level and although they are still a workout, they are becoming very doable. One more week to go.

Today I read two chapters in The Spark, set my goals, weighted myself. I am 8 pounds up. But that is ok, I just got out of the hospital after having the lymph nodes biopsied in my chest. I had quite a scare but I found out yesterday I do not have lymphoma but I do have scarcoidosis. I am now determined that nothing will stop me!
