Good to know I am not the only one to read cookbooks like novels. LOL I won't use a cookbook until I read it.

I actually have Joy of Cooking on my side table. But first I have to finish reading a dehydrating book first.

I work in a library....so I have access to a LOT of cookbooks and as a previous person wrote, I also enjoy reading them like a regular non-fiction book.

I am liking Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. It is a vegan cookbook, but has lots of great recipes. We try to eat meatless a few times per week, so this book has been quite helpful in finding good meatless meals with good nutrition.

Does anyone still use the Joy of Cooking? I got one as a wedding gift for my first wedding and it was one of the few things I took with me after the divorce. It's worn and splatted with grease, but I use it often as a reference. Except the part about how to skin a squirrel.

I have my mother's cookbook, Woman's Home Companion that was published in 1942, the year I was born. It tells how to do everything from setting the table, canning, cake decorating, just about anything a person wants to know. It is tattered and worn and falling apart.

I have so many favorites! The Good Eats trilogy. All of John Besh's cookbooks. Ted Allen's In My Kitchen. I could go on, but you get the idea.

"...there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

"We're children of a fighting race that never yet has known disgrace." (The Soldiers' Song, Irish national anthem)

"Every day above ground is a good day." (Chef Justin Kennedy of New Orleans, on Chopped)

For learning how to cook, I've enjoyed the cookbook series by America's Test Kitchen, they explain everything in tremendous detail.

I love cookbooks. I read them like people read novels. A few of my favorites are Taste of Home cookbooks and I also like Marlene Koch Eat What You Love, Eat more of What You Love and Eat what You Love Everyday. Marlene's cookbooks list portion size, calories, nutritional info and also Weight Watcher points for all her recipes.

My favorite cookbook isn't available anymore. It's a three binder set of Weight Watchers recipes put out by TimeLife 1992-1994. I should scan them all to a disc, they can't last forever.

I like to check out cookbooks from the library to try them out. You'd be shocked at how many cookbooks they have. That way you only buy a cookbook when you find one you'll really use.
