I plan weekly. I always buy meats/fish/poultry in bulk and break them down into two to four serving sized bags. How I prepare them is based on what produce is on sale and available, as well as what staples I have on hand. If I find a recipe in one of my four food magazine subscriptions I make a point to add the missing needed ingredients to my shopping list. The good thing is that most of the recipes for the month are using ingredients that are usually in season, therefore cheaper.

Sometimes however, I just splurge on a pricier or exotic ingredient for a dish because I want to make it and I don't care what it costs.

I plan weekly. If I have things in the freezer I take that into consideration in my planning. Sinc e I work full time time considerations are an issue for week days. I use tried and true recipes, look for new recipes in cookbooks and online, and listen to my cravings and look for healthy versions. I look for a soup or something else for my lunches. Most of my cooking is done on weekends.

I plan carefully twice a week. I have a huge collection of cookbooks, mostly WW cookbooks going back 30 years, and select dinners, make careful shopping lists depending on which store I have to visit to get each item. I shop Wegman's, Costco, Sam's and Walmart each week, as well as Lotte (Asian and Indian) and Grand Mart (Hispanic). I note what time I have to start, what needs to come out of the freezer and when, weigh out beans for soaking in advance or ingredients that need to start at room temp. My planner doubles as a tracker, as I check off each dinner and the exchanges in each one. I can't eat very much, so what I do eat better be spectacular every night.

No, I just meat and chicken in bulk and freeze portion size servings, fresh and frozen fruits and veggies and I can alway throw a meal together in a few minutes. I do check the ads before I shop. Right now I am eating out of my freezer this month, I always stock up for the winter because I live on a hill.

For me its quite the process. I, like so many, am on a somewhat limited budget. I first take the weekly sales ads for the local supermarkets and jot down the items that I might use that are on sale. Once I've done that I look through my massive collections of recipes to match meals to what is on sale. I've gathered the recipes from so many sources since beginning this journey...SparkRecipes, Hungry Girl, Eating Well and the list goes on.

So I guess the answer to your question is yes, most weeks I plan the meals for the entire week ahead of time.

How many of you plan your meals out for the week and where do you get your ideas from? Do you look through cook books or just look at what you have an "wing" it LOL

Thanks!
