Hello GivinMyAll. The article Gemini-Sky posted was comprehensive but I just wanted to share my personal anecdote as well. Walking an hour a day is my primary form of exercise. Two things that probably helped me avoid leg soreness is (1) that I started small (about 15 minutes) and added additional daily minutes over time and (2) I do three stretching exercises for about 30 seconds for each leg after my walk that were recommended by my trainer. One stretches the calves, one the front of my thighs and the last the back of my thighs.

My trainer is pretty "anti" muscle soreness and will go more slowly if something leaves me very sore, although I figured it was the "pain" that comes with the "gain". She says no, not a good thing, going too fast, need to build up over time.

I'm sure it won't be long before you'll be past the initial soreness and I wish you much luck.

Every time I stop walking and start up again, I get that. I just do short walks for a bit. I walk inside to DVDs so I am not where I can't sit down if I need to. Maybe change up for a bit? I am certainly not a doctor and don't know your personal situation. Just be safe....you have the rest of your life to keep walking...sometimes you need a break.

I've been walking for a little over two weeks now, and my legs are still soooo sore. Does anyone have any suggestons for this? I really want to walk, walk, walk, so I can keep shedding the pounds, but my legs are not catching up like I'd like.
