I have the 405 and I do really like it, BUT...half way through my recent marathon i get "Battery Low"..what? I had it charging for days on end just to make sure. It eventually turned off and i had to just use the time on the watch to indicate my 4:1 intervals. So, i'm not too impressed with the battery life. Shame on my Garmin for deciding to fail me in my time of need LOL.. emoticon

I trained for a half-marathon without a Garmin then bought a Garmin in the spring to train for a marathon. Wow, love it so much!! I'll pass on what I know about the products.

The 410 is a nice-looking watch with lots of sensitivity issues (i.e., rain, touch). I've gotten used to it and bought mine on ebay for a steal of a deal, but I'd upgrade if not for costs.

The new 405 is still the bezel but they've addressed the problems of the 410, so if you want a bezel watch that looks good, and cost is not an issue, this is the one.

The 305/310 are great watches so long as you don't mind bulk. I'd say they look better on men than women. That said, I prefer the buttons rather than the bezel, and the new 305 is completely water proof, a sweet feature for a very high price. If budget is an issue and appearance is not, go with the older versions of this model.

As for the HRM, I use it for every run, particularly since I train based on effort and different runs need different bpm for maximum training results.

Plus, everything downloads so nicely onto your computer for full analysis. The Garmin in any form is an excellent running tool.

I'm considering getting one of these so that I can track my distances and times better rather than having to map them on the laptop when I get home.

I already have a good HRM so I would want one without that. I assume there is such a thing?

I have the 305 but think if something happens I would switch to the 205 since I have never used the heart rate monitor. I love it though, best running gadget ever!

Never doubt that you can and will achieve greatness.

I have the forerunner 405CX I think it is. My hubby bought it for me in July 2009. I love it, and I love that it calculates my calorie burn. But I have heard a lot of people like the 305. And you'd probably save some $$ with the 305.

My wife and I have had the Garmin 305's for 4 years without any problems. The 305 comes with Heart Rate monitor. There are newer versions available, but at roughly $125 (online), I don't think you can beat the price. I paid $350 each 4 years ago and consider it an investment well worth the money.
