My machine is set by default to measure calories burned by someone only half my weight and considerably shorter than I am. I forget how to adjust it so I just go with SparkPeople's calorie count, which is supposed to be based on your weight.

I have noticed that too. I started putting in the number of calories that my machine gives me, when my exercise includes a machine that gives calories. I figured that the machine would be more accurate since I am inputting my age/weight and it includes the resistance used and heart rate.

I've been working out and entering my time on Spark People so that I will know how many calories I burn. Until yesterday I never questioned the numbers provided. Yesterday I did 30 minutes on the elliptical. The machine (based on my age and weight) said that I burned 328 calories with the resistance and incline used. When I entered my time on Spark People it said that I burned 628 calories. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how have you accurately determined the amount of calories burned during your workouts?

I know that the information provided on the elliptical may not be 100% accurate due to my weight.
