The Journey, The Kentucky Brothers ( Book I) ****by Wanda E. Brunstetter I really like reading about Amish people. When I read this, I did not know there was a sequel. I cannot wait to read the next one!

Little Comfort by Edwin Hill

5 stars

Hester Thursby is a librarian/PI in the Boston area. While on leave from her library job, she is asked to locate the missing brother of a NH woman.

This is the first book in the Hester Thursby series. It was a compelling story with twists and turns along the way.

Wow - what a read!
Propulsive, compulsive and repulsive.
Couldn't put it down, although at times I really wanted to.
Visceral and violent and horribly graphic.
Gird you loins before reading.

Trouble with Angels - Debbie Macomber 3.5 stars

This is a sweet Christmas read. Three angels go to Los Angeles to help 3 people at Christmas. Really liked how she portrayed the characters - they weren't all perfect and she let the stories evolve well. A few surprises popped up. Like a Hallmark Christmas movie but even better.

Dreamers of the Day
By Mary Doris Russell
4 stars
Alternating between historically interesting, touchingly humorous, and deeply philosophical, this book satisfies on many levels. Reading it is kind of like being that fly on the wall to which we often refer.
Set in 1921 in the Middle East, Agnes and her dachshund Rosie are pulled into the fringes of one of history's most impactful events, the Cairo Peace Conference. There they meet some famous characters of the time, including Winston Churchill and Colonel TE Lawrence (of Arabia).

In the Shadow of the Banyan
By Vaddey Ratner
4 stars
I learned so much about the Cambodian civil war and the reign of the Khmer Rouge, and it was not a pretty story. Raami describes how her life of privilege is torn away; how one by one her family disappears or dies; how she is treated as little more than a slave. Once again I am reminded of how fortunate (privileged) our own society is, and how quickly it can all be lost.

The Fabulous Bouvier Sisters - The Tragic and Glamorous Lives of Jackie and Lee

By Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger

3 stars

Biography of Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Lee Radziwill.

I picked the book up as I know a lot about Jackie but not much about her sister Lee. This book chronicles their lives as sisters. It was good.

The Island House - Nancy Thayer 2.5 stars

Young woman spends summers at her college roommate's family home in Nantucket.

Starts off strong but then seems to fade off with little development. Very predictable story.

This book and its moments of great writing, but somehow I felt the characters lacked depth, or dimension, or something... Although I enjoyed it, I feel there are other better apocalyptic novels out there.

The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves

3 stars

The story of college students Annika and Jonathan; who navigate their relationship with Annika being on the autism spectrum.

The story takes place within 10 years. It takes the reader back and forth to 1991/1992 and then ahead to 2001 with both characters. A good story!

The Dry
By Jane Harper
6 stars!
Crime fiction at its best - compulsively propelling the reader to a surprising, and deeply satisfying, finish. Set in rural Australia during a drought, at a time when tensions are already running high, emotions are at a flash point. And with the countryside being tinder dry, that cannot be a good thing...
I am so happy that I stumbled upon this author!

I have not been a good reader lately. Bring on November!

DIET IS A FOUR LETTER WORD!!!!

We are constantly creating our "karma" or destiny through our intentions, thoughts and deeds in this moment. It is achieved through countless deliberate acts of selflessness.

It's hard to be happy with others if we are not happy with ourselves.

Just keep on moving and you'll get there.

Here we are! This is where you can list the books that you finished in November

All posts need book title, author, and stars; 0 being the worst and 6 being very special.

I would encourage you to comment on books that others have read by sending them a Sparkmail. This topic is just to list books read and finished in November 2019 for the team.

This is a thread where we list all the books that we read during the month of November and rate them by the system listed below. Please note that you need to list title, author, and your rating for it to be counted. Also, please give a description of the book and how it appealed to you. This is a great way to find new books and authors that you might be interested in. Everyone is welcome to join.

If you started a book in October (or any prior month), but finish in November, it counts for November.

DO NOT list books STARTED; only books FINISHED. Include title, author and rating.

Rereads count, audios count, electronics count. Our minimum word count is 25,000.

Book Ratings:

0 stars - Fit for only lining birdcages.
1 star - Agent was better salesman than author was writer.
2 stars - Some parts had promise.
3 stars - Solid read in its genre. Take it on plane.
4 stars - Better than average. Don't lose it on the plane.
5 stars - Recommended. One of the top 10% of books in its genre.
6 stars - Strongly recommended. Beg, Borrow, Buy, or Steal It.
