This thread is so helpful! I've been wondering the same thing. Granted, I recently got a work study position on campus so there's less stress there. I decided to do something silly and take an aerobics class this fall... my school offers classes that aren't mandatory, but I never seem to be able to get to them. Perhaps if I HAVE to go, it'll help me out. I dunno, I figured it's a start and you gotta start somewhere. Perhaps my work study position will allow me the time to get to the classes I WANT to go to...

Those aren't horns, that's my halo infrastucture.

I love this thread!

This summer, while I'm in summer school, I got a part-time job working in the campus gym. Here I can do homework (and enter my sparkpeople trackers!) at the desk, and then I just stay after work 30 minutes or so to hop on a cardio machine. And seriously, after spending a few hours watching other people work out, you want to get off your butt and do it too!

This was a great thread to read through. So many good ideas to balance studying with fitness. I really should try waking up a bit earlier then I do, even though I'm already tired ALL the time. Lol

My plan for the summer sessions is to take the kids to the state park 5 miles up the road. Campus is 25 miles for me to use the gym so I figure chasing kids makes more sense plus it should tire them out so I can get more peace and quiet for doing my school work.

BY GEORGE I THINK I GOT IT! Yesterday my girlfriend came over and we live 30min.+ from eachother and we decided I would go over her house Wed. mornings after droping kids at school, she would come over Sat. am's and we would call eachother ever day at 9am to say get your but up and start working out. If i know im going to meet up with someone to show my progress this might motivate me more. and make me have to do it. if she's going to be calling i feel more obligated. I did the Bob harper work out yesterday and my legs are killing me! i love it! emoticon

That's what I try to do too is the rotation...can't do it all at once either. Daughter comes home at noon so that kills some of my day, but have figured out how to get through.

so burned out though...plus have hayfever or something. have had migrains for days!!!! ugh! horrible.

ok...now thatS settled...balancing it all out seems like a breeze (chuckle). How do you stay consistent. I'm finding myself going past my allotted time to study cutting into my workout/cleaning time. What are some things you do to keep you on track??? At the moment I'm using a watch with a timer on it. I have it set for 20min. and when it goes off I'm suppose to stop studying and start moving but i tend to ignore it more times than not....UGH!

I try to break things up in small groups. LIke one game of Wii Tennis (about 10 minutes), then work on an assignment for 20 minutes, then go do the dishes, etc...and repeat.

I find it harder to do all my homework at once or all the housework at once...tends to burn me out.

The only thing that I can get to work for me is actually schedualing workout classes into my schedule. It seems when there is a grade riding on in then it gives more motivation to workout. It also helps to get rid of any extra stresses that may present themselves. I haven't read any of the other post so I don't know if this was mentioned or not. Good luck!!

Pickieprotein, i wish you luck and persistance because i think thats what it takes...I recieved a FREE tredmill this weekend from freecycle.org and got on that for the first time this morning before waiking up the kids. i was always uncomfortable with the idea of running outside while the kids were home, so i didnt. the treadmill belt sticks every now and then so i just keep my hands on the bars. it will work for now i think. im going to try running for the first time. let me know the things you try

Balancing working out with studying was a rather simple task several months back, when I used the University's Resource Center's computer lab; I would walk there in approx 35 minutes and walk back after I was finished my studying and assignments. While walking, I would wiggle in a few other exercises that would help with stretching. Now, that I no longer require the schools computer lab, and Iam spending more time at home; balancing is becoming a little hectic with the tracking of the fitness and nutritional intake. So far so good, though; I am making small feats. Like Pennymae 1969 said her employer suggest, "it is relieving to get up and walk around, stretch your body out a little".
KZKriss, practically every one of your words are true. Tracking the fitness and nutrition is overwhelming, still I am getting a little bit better. It requires training myself to this system. For instance, I did not realize that I had to enter all the nutritional information and I ended up 'cutting myself short of' valuable "nutrient info". I finally fixed that problem this weekend, 3/26/11 by editing my favorites. Good thing is, I did not have an extremely long list of food nor did enter food items every day. Another good thing, since I recycle, I manage to salvage the discarded packaging with all the necessary information. We think alike on that, 15 minute-do whatever you can and get it done.

Those are both great ideas! ZKRISS, I love your idea of setting the clock for 15:00 to see how quickly you can get a room cleaned! I am going to try that tonight. Plus, your right it keeps you moving fast which is definitely burning calories. PENNYMAE1969, your idea of do an hour of school work and then give yourself a half hour to walk/jog/ workout is a wonderful idea too!
The only time I can guarantee that I get my workout in is if I get up and do it first thing in the morning. That means I have to get up at 5:00 and workout. Sometimes it works great and other morning's I hit snooze too many times and miss my slot. My goal is to quit hitting snooze and to make that morning appt! Great tips ladies thanks for the help!

What have you been trying? has any of it worked/not worked/sorta worked? What i did today was i took my notes for my quiz tonight (9pgs. of them) got on my stationary bike downstairs and road the bike while i read over my notes. not sure how much it helps.
Repetition is the key right. There were times when i lost focus on what i was reading but not very many and my butt hurts a little but thats because the seat hurts. I do try setting my wrist watch and do either a full homework assignment...depending on the size or 30min. and then i set my watch for 15min. to go clean one room as fast as i can. running the whole time. i figure its excersize and im being productive. you would be amazed at how much you can get cleaned in 15min. when the timer/watch goes off i stop cold turkey and go back to my studies. my problem is im not persistant. i cant even seem to log my food or work outs regularly. ugh

What I've started this week is that each hour I'm doing schoolwork, I get up and do 30 minutes or an hour of exercise. We're told at work that each hour we work, we need to get up and take a walk and then go back to work and back and forth. We're told it keeps down back injuries.
