Just started the optifast program. Tomorrow will be my one week mark and I already failed :( On two seperate occasions I have had real food in addition to my 5 shakes. Not even cause i was hungry but because it just smelled so good. I felt terrible both times. But I guess that's why it's called the 3 day challenge right? I've still lost about 10 lbs so far though and really want to stick with it to lose at least 100-150 lbs ultimately. Anybody else mess up like this early on? I might feel a little better if I knew I wasn't the only one I guess.

Only four shakes left. I have been adding food for the past few weeks and I am down to two or three shakes a day. I have lost 18.1# and would like to get to 25# lost. Trying to keep calories to under 1000. Wish me luck!

As long as there are no calories in the jello, I don't see why you can't. However, have you tried other sugar free things like the Torani? Also I like to mix my shakes with diet pop (especially diet orange and diet root beer). A lot of people like to flavour their shakes with Crystal Light, one guy I know loves the mango, I prefer the raspberry). I also love mocha, which is a vanilla shake with 1 TBL cocoa, and instant coffee to taste. You can have a pretty wide variety of tastes and textures to the basic Optifast shake.

Try a few and let me know how it goes.

Help down 39.5 lbs plateauing. I have gone from 228.5 down to presently 188.5 ,trying to break plateau. E revise is not the problem.
Can I put SF jello in my shakes? Thinking about doing my shakes only for tomorrow so can break the plateau.

My BMI wasn`t high enough for my insurance to pay for the program. I did the program through the hospital 19 years ago. So I decided to do it on my own. I bought Optifast online. My PCP wanted me to see the dietician so I went to see the one connected to the program. I can get Optifast from that program because I have been through before. It is limited to 42 items every two weeks. That`s three times a day. Currently doing four or five shakes and a small meal, such as a piece of toast with icbinb and an egg (152 cal). I admit I get really hungry some days and I have thrown in half a bar or maybe a whole one.

One food meal with the Optifast is ok. I've never heard of doing it online. Here in Ottawa Canada there is a hospital program and we can go and pick up our Optifast monthly. Is there any way you can get your food locally? I mean within an hour or two's drive as you might be able to stretch your pick up to bi-monthly?

I bought my Optifast online and she is afraid it may have been handled wrong and the nutrition may have been compromised. I am doing 160 cal Optifast. It is about 900 - 1000 calories. Yes, I am a senior, I`m 71. I am only doing one food meal right now.

It's weird that they want you to add in 3 meals a day while on Optifast, but I guess that they know what they're doing. Six meals sounds like a lot, what is the calorie count that they have you on?

I would weigh daily and make sure that there is NO weight gain. If there is I would call the dietitian out on it right away. If I'm correct, you're a senior like me and we really don't need a lot of calories.

End of week five and I have lost 12.5#. Dietician insists I add in some food. She wants me to do three Optifast and three meals with one protein, one carb and one fat. I am adding one of those meals right now. Not sure when I will add another.

Once your body gets into a rhythm you will find that you lose consistently. I have a very slow metabolism and lost only 2 lbs per week....however, by the end of the program I had lost 66 pounds. Hang in there.

Still struggling. I truly think that I need to really limit my wine/alcohol to one day per week as it does lower my inhibitions. This is a difficult time of year as my eldest son's birthday was yesterday. His second birthday since he died, so I need all the willpower I can get right now.

Yesterday was not a bad day, but once again I nibbled on some nuts and crackers. Today I need to remember - NO SNACKS, NO CARBS

I will go up to the exercise room in a few minutes and get a WATP out of the way. I plan to have a breakfast shake, a lunch shake, and then a healthy dinner. I haven't put my dinner into the Spark nutrition tracker yet because I want to give my family the choice of two healthy options.

I am determined to stay on track and continue to lose weigh during the summer in preparation for my upcoming New Zealand trip.

Today I am starting right on track. I've been up to the exercise room and it went much better today than yesterday even though I did a faster dvd. I'm having my protein shake (I much prefer them to Optifast after the program as they are cheaper and just taste a lot better. Also they have MUCH fewer carbs which is good for me personally). I'm not sure what I'll do today because it is cloudy and cool outside - perfect bug weather. However, I hope that I can do some cleaning or something to keep me moving today.

Yesterday was a bit of sun, but then the rain clouds moved in. I thought I did well with eating, but that was not reflected on the scales this morning, so we'll see what happens today.

Today's plan: 24 hour fast broken by turkey sausage and salad for dinner. Probably yogurt for dessert. Do a WATP right after Sparking, before it gets too hot. Do strength training.

Garden a bit if weather holds and garden dry enough. Start stripping door for library/basement.

Yesterday was a good day. I successfully fasted until dinner. I had a gluten free impossible pie quiche using the gluten free Bisquick for dinner. It was still high calorie for one meal, but my day's calories were under 800 so I count that a win.

This morning I had a half size portion of quiche and my carbs are at 20. For dinner tonight a friend is taking hubby and I to a dinner theatre. It is a buffet dinner, so no feelings will be hurt at what I eat so I should be able to keep my carbs between 30 and 40 today.

I need to cook for daughter and her friend. I was uncomfortable about leaving my adult daughter alone with her leg so broken, but a friend of hers will be able to come and keep her company. I'll make the girls shepherd's pie with corn and salad. I've already made them a gluten free hummingbird cake which I'll need to ice.

Now if I can just get past this itching fungal infection and actually move a bit today, my life will be great despite the rain and flooding.

Yesterday I went to get my hair done and stopped to have sushi for lunch between hair and shopping for daughter. Not the smartest move I've ever made. Today is a fast day until dinner and I'm starving - mostly because of the carbs in the rice I think.

However, I'm staying on track today despite the hunger and am hoping my cravings calm down tomorrow.

Yesterday was NOT a good food day. Daughter had to go to the Ottawa Civic Hospital for a new cast and examination of how her leg surgery is progressing. The parking is horrendous, so I drove in order to be able to drop her and her dad off at the main entrance without having to worry about how far away we had to park. She was there for almost 4 hours and the stress was high so I wound up going for a very non-Sparky meal. I think the biggest problem was that it was a fast day so I was truly hungry and the stress did not help me to make healthy choices. It would have been much better to have had a healthy meal before I left. I did not eat anything for dinner except a piece of cheesecake (the rest of which gets frozen today). It is one day and I was/am extremely worried about Sam. There are several ambiguous areas, so she may need further surgery but they are leaving it for now. They were impressed with the work that the surgeons did in Halifax, so that does make me feel better!

Today I get my old extensions out. Then, next Thursday I will get my roots touched up and get my new, longer extensions in. Hubby is very excited. I think that most men like long hair. He would also like me in better health. He is so good about putting the cream on me for the fungus infection. I will feel better and then I'll get back to moving more again.

Also, I am worried about having the pre-cancer burnt off from beneath my eye because it is so close to the eye. It is my "good" eye we are talking about here! lol

I need to get in the shower. I want my extensions squeaky clean when we remove them and put them away.

Yesterday was the first day in over a week (since I was diagnosed with a fungal infection) that I was able to move somewhat freely. I swept, vacuumed, and steamed the tile floor in the dining room and kitchen, swept the hearth and vacuumed the library, washed and Orange glowed the dining room table. Plus I thought we were having guests so I made a cheese board, shrimp and avocado salad, ribs, mashed potatoes, corn, and Caesar salad (using the yummy Aitkens low carb dressing recipe). I also made a cheesecake for dessert, but that was more for my daughter. I watched my carb intake and my weigh in today wasn't too bad.

Today I'll drive hubby and dd to the hospital so he can get a wheelchair and take her in to get her leg examined and a new cast. That way we don't need to worry about parking and I'll pick them up when they're done.

You're doing great! I've had a few moments here in my 8th week on the program but haven't caved yet. Shirley, we're reading Living Smart by Dr. Sheri Pruitt & Dr Joshua Klapow to follow with the Smart Goal Setting we're doing. Pruitt was one of the founders of the program. Although I have to admit I haven't been doing much reading of it myself lately and just listening to what it's been about during our classes!

I'm also falling off on tracking since I'm having the same thing every day at the same times and I know I need to keep this up to be in the habit by the time I'm eating! This week I'm trying to refocus.

Well I'm not cooking this Easter for the first time ever! And today's my birthday and I woke up to the most amazing smell of chorizo and eggs. That my daughter's fiancé made her for breakfast! I told them that's really rude to make such a fragrant meal to wake me up on my birthday when I can only have shakes LOL I'm not a chorizo fan but it sure smells good when you haven't eaten real food. You see today is only my 11th day on opti so I'm still pissy about it LOL My mind is in the game so I have nothing to worry about. emoticon

Getting ready for Easter and so much cooking/baking. I make my own Easter chocolates - very time consuming so I don't make many. Also hot cross buns, rhubarb crisp, and gluten free cookies for the kids. Sam already has her Easter basket, Charles and Christina will receive theirs late...very late.

I've been finished with Optifast for a little over a year and have kept off the weight I lost, but am having difficulty in continuing to lose weight. I still have a little over 100 pounds to lose. The Optifast program is difficult, but it can be very effective in giving you a break from food while you retrain your brain.

In our clinic it was recommended that we read "The Beck Solution" and "Mindless Eating". Does your clinic recommend any resources to help with behaviour therapy and food?

I'm learning how to navigate the site. I just started Full replacement on April 6, 2017. Had a few grumbly tummy moments but far far less than I expect! And I have not had one single dizzy spell. I've learned to have some hot tea or a serving of sugar-free Jell-O to help. Would like to lose 75 pounds plus. I'm down 10 pounds from my first weigh in, my dr put me on a 1200 cal diet 3 weeks before my Optifast diet. So I'm feeling pretty good about my accomplishment. Having the 1200 diet from my doctor I definitely relearned a lot. I already know that moderation is the key. And serving sizes mean a lot. So I've got four months to go before I can start eating solid food is kind of freaks me out but I'm here for support. I have a weekly support group but we're all new at this so that's why I'm here. emoticon

It's good to take it one step at a time, and focusing on what you're doing on program is the way to go.

I agree MBARTLETT4 that avoidance is going to be key for me! And I'll just have to try some of those cauliflower options for mashed potatoes and see if they're any good! lol. That's good ot hear that 6 months out of it you're doing well with staying away from the cravings. There's hope! I'm about 5 or 6 weeks into full Optifast and thinking about food alot but haven't had a mouthful of it since I started so I'm trying to focus on keeping THAT up. lol

It's true. This is really a life journey, so the end of the program is just the beginning of eating a healthy diet that works for us.

Hello to all! So many new posts. Guess what? Mashed potatoes did not go away, they will still be around when you are transitioned to food. I loved so many things, and doing without them was ... something. Difficult? a struggle? Not really. Just felt like certain foods I really wanted. I have been off full Optifast for about 6 months and I have not started eating those cravings at all. Skyline chili? Nope. Chinese? Nope. Chipotle? Nope. I like to think I am smarter (Ha!) about those particular choices.

My real struggle is with sweets of the cake/cookie variety. I don't keep them in the house. And they STILL find ways to make it into my belly! Not interested in candy or ice cream or other sweets. So, still work to be done.

Today is rainy and I need to start my chocolate making. It's been years, I even forget how to temper the darn stuff.

Hi London! I just finished my 3rd week on Optifast meal replacements. Nice to see another newer member! I'm also trying to lose over 100 so keep in touch and tell us how it's going! So far I had another good week so I've got no complaints!

Diet really does have a huge effect on diabetes and for T2, weight can also play a huge role. Dr. Richard Bernstein has a very good book on dealing with diabetes. Here is a link to a good summary of the book.

You can definitely re-educate your eating habits. I am also an ex-smoker (I quit 25 years ago this year!) and I truly believe that quitting smoking is the hardest thing I've ever done. You'll be fine!

I gave up smoking 5 years ago after 30 years of a pack a day. If I can do that, then hopefully I can reducate my eating habits too

Thank you.
I am having two shakes a day, and a plate of roasted veg - onions, zuchinni, leeks, eggplant, cauliflower, etc with lots of herbs and spices, no fat.
I am also transferring £10 (about $12 US) a day into my savings account for everyday I stick at this to be used for a holiday.
I know i can never be a normal size and just eat what I want.
I have my veggies in the evening when I get in from work, and look forward to them so much.
I am also T2 and there are studies in this country that show this way of dieting can have a huge impact on Diabetes, and affect damaged cells in the pancreas.

Hi London and welcome to the team. Optifast is a great program to lose weight. However, it is really important to educate yourself on a sustainable lifestyle while on the product to make sure you maintain your weight loss after the program ends.

It might be helpful if you make yourself a Spark page. Weight loss is an ongoing thing, so it might be handy to have a place where your Spark friends can leave you encouragement and Spark Goodies. There are instuctions on how to set up a Spark page in a thread further down the team page.

We did fairly well at dinner. Now I am starting a longer fast. Aiming for a week, we'll see how well I do.
