Tzdekah, Hebrew for charity, is in my weekly budget.
Each Friday at sundown, as I light Shabbat candles, money physically goes into a box. When I need to help a person or cause financially, the funds come from there.

Items are out of my ďextraĒ or undirected money. Like petit cash in a business. Itís refilled by setting aside tips for a period of time.

I might step up the tzdekah amounts, similar to the challenges.

I want to so I will investigate

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Here is a site with PDFs and several versions of the 52-week challenge, all aimed at the same dollar figure at the end:

If the habit of saving consistently is your obstacle, maybe use a certain coin rather than bill.
My kiddo did it with quarters. So, where it says six dollars, they saved six quarters, or $1.50.
It added up, in kid terms. More importantly, my kid saves better than I do. I tap savings far less, however. Iím not a complete loss.

I am thinking about using the Qapital app mentioned in the link. I already use it to save round ups of anything I pay by debit card.
Note, I would NOT endorse it beyond the basic level, and not for using a branded debit card or investing through it. I use Stash to invest because it has lower fees.

I see several variations on a couple themes for savings challenges online.
From save all your bills of a specific denomination, to all change to a changing amount per week (the week one $1, week two $2 until the last week of the year at $52, which totals $1378 for the year. It can also be done starting at $52 and dropping down to $1), to bank run holiday clubs (do those exist anymore?), small ways to trick yourself int9 savings abound.

It occurred to me, while deleting hundreds of emails about sales today, that one could use the same plan but start in November for December shopping, or whatever month will entail an outlay not typically in a budget.

Do you ever take part in personal challenges? Would you want to?
Why or why not?
Any inspiring, uplifting, funny or warning tales to tell us?
Which challenges have you used?
