I was at the gym today. Kids gymnastics/basketball/whatever had just finished and no less than 4 children nearly ran into me. The parents looked at me like "Aren't they cute?". No, they aren't. I pay way more than they do to be here so hows abouts letting me get to the changing room?

I am sure the child didn't mean to spray whipped cream all over everyone. That is why the parent needs to get off their lazy a$$ and help the child. THATS YOUR JOB. And they need to teach them to wait their turn as well.

Sometimes I feel like as a school teacher that we are teaching the kids these basic things of life b/c the parents are too busy to invest the time in their children.

The whole thing was really sad, but I don't see how the drive (with several previous offenses) got off so easily! Scary.

I also hate the excuse of the cross walk was too far. 1/4 mile is not too freaken far. We should teach our kids (well, not ours being we don't have any) to be responsible and not lazy.

Loren, I remember that story... the driver was drunk and it was a hit and run and I believe his THIRD offense. He got 6 months. The mother got 3 years, but it was reversed on appeal.

While I think it was fundamentally unfair to the mother (did I just say that??), I do think that it was right to assign SOME responsibility to her.

Also, there are so many regulations around safety with school buses, but none for municipal buses. What, only kids' lives are worth protecting? The adults can go take a hike? Or should we be training kids to be more careful when they get off the school bus to begin with?

My DH would not have done well in the line situation. He either would have shut down and just stood dumbfounded (the safest option) or tried to fix it (bodily moving the child). My husband likes a good set of sprinkles. I'd have frozen if a kid touched me. Can you imagine the yelling I would have gotten if I had smooshed a kid to the bar to get toppings.

There was an article here where a mom and kids were crossing a busy street (jaywalking) and one got hit and killed. She is being charged for putting him and the two others in danger. The guy driving was also one that had actually be arrested before for hit and runs.... Tried to find the article, but the search is horrible.

oh my goodness!!! Thanks for sharing the link. Unfortunately, that's too true of a testament as to how many people do parent. It does make me grateful that my friends with children DO parent their kids and are raising their children to have manners.
An oddball segway, but it makes me think of last June. We put together a Relay for Life team and were participating in the overnight walk. My friend with a 5-year-old and a 1-year-old was on the team. She's the best! Another team member has an 18-yo & a 13-yo.
Well, you guessed it, the 13yo attended the event. She didn't pick up after herself at our campsite (our event encourages fundraisers be held at sites throughout the night, so every item she left lying around was completely in our way & impeding our ability to work), and, the kicker, Neither. Did. The. Mother! My dear friend with small children proceeded to "resolve" the situation and, while it was a little harsh, I still giggle about it.

Ugggh, I cannot stand parents who think they and their children are entitled to do whatever they freaking want. People wonder why DH and I are homebodies. At least then we don't have to deal with idiots and their children.

Wow, just WOW!! Both of those stories made my blood boil!

We had a "situation" this weekend. Trying to cross a very busy street in the car... the light stays green for about 15 seconds and it's red for quite a long time. There was a panhandler (in traffic!) with a sign - "trying to feed my 3 kids - they need your help"... well, the ding dong in front of us gets involved in giving her cash just as the light turns. The BF laid on the horn (his favorite part of our car!), but we missed the light. So did the humanitarian in front of us. Anyway, he gave us that shoulder shrug, like, "what are you going to do, she has 3 kids"... WTF?!
