Hi Everyone!

We got up about 6 am and sadly the ground was dry so I agreed to go with Marty to the airport and drive home. Its about 100 miles away. The roads were bad off and on on the way down because it wasnít icy yet but by the time I was driving home there was a lot of black ice. I saw lots of cars in the ditch, etc. There isnít a lot of snow but enough to get the roads slick and since we are really cold it froze up quickly. Out of the 100 miles coming home only 40 of them were okay. Aak.

Marty safely arrived in Arizona though.

It was -3 when I came home with wind chill of -26. I put my sweats in the dryer for about 5 minutes when I got home then put them on - toasty warm. That was sweet. My PJís will be getting the same treatment before I go to bed.

Tomorrowís high is going to be -4 with wind chills -30 to -40. Aak. This is December, January weather.

Eats were good today. I had a 100 calorie english muffin for breakfast and ate my cheerios as my snack on the drive home from the airport. Lunch was leftovers (roast and mashed potatoes), my mid afternoon snack was some lite popcorn and supper was veggies and a lean cuisine. I had a weight watchers chocolate ice cream bar for dessert.

Char, sorry to hear you didnít have a good day. I find many laptops volume just doesnít cut it for movies. How awful about the flat tire, I am relieved someone you knew came along and her son changed the tire for you. We didnít get much snow with this storm but our temperatures plummeted. Like a bad day on the stock market!

Well, I am off to hunt down a fleece blanket. Maybe I should throw it in the dryer too.

Marcy

Marcy, hope everything works out with Turbo Tax. I am taking mine in to have it done. My sister-in-law
plays in bridge tournaments all over her state. She has a lot of fun. Hope Marty has a safe and prosperous trip.

Well, today was not one of my best days. I went to visit a friend after church, but had to leave before we could finish watching a movie and talk because it took so long to find a laptop that we could get the volume up high enough to hear. I finally just told her we would have to do this another time and left. Then I hurried to get back to church and had a flat tire out in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately, one of my friends who goes to the same church found me on the road with a flat tire and her son changed the flat for me. All I had was just a little doughnut tire and so I decided since we were already going to be really late, I would just turn around and go home. I sure hope tomorrow is a better day.

I will try to get the tire fixed tomorrow and have a new one put on. Then I will use this one for a spare, but I will have to work fast because a winter storm is coming in and it is supposed to be really band and really cold. Hope it misses us.

Have a good week everyone.

Char, how nice of your students to help you carry out your supplies and groceries. Too cute you bought them some candy. I have many skinnies working with me and it is hurting my abilities to stay good. I need to really get back on track. I am sure an occasional dinner out with your mom wonít set you back a lot. Itís nice you can take her out sometimes. Good luck with your taxes. Turbo Tax keeps reading something on my health card wrong but I donít see where or how to fix it. Right now we are still getting a refund. I am glad you get to enjoy the winter skies so often. Tis the season for those really bright stars. I actually saw a meteor tonight is real deep twilight. It wasnít completely dark yet but there wasnít much light left in the sky either. We were in the car on the way to play cribbage with some friends and I saw what I thought was a plane first but then I realized it was a meteor. I probably saw it for about 15 seconds and it was about a -2 magnitude. Sweet. That made my night.

Our cribbage tournament was fun. There were 4 couples. They put down cards in front of all of us and paired us up by who got the black jacks and the red jacks. Of course everyone kept saying I was going to win but I didnít. I only won 2 rounds out of 5. Marty was the big winner in both teams and singles so he paid in our $10 and won back 2 tens. They had nachos, chips and of course my cookies as snacks so I had some nachos and a few chips and too many cookies.

Tomorrow I am dropping Marty off at the airport then meeting my sister for some shopping. My feet have been killing me lately so I am going to the Good Feet store on the way home. I think the inserts I have are not working right for me anymore. I guess Iíll have them look at them and see if I need a change. Grr. I hope they can fix them. I had a stress fracture on the right foot at one time and I think that area is flaring up again. Motivation to work on weighing less, huh?

Take care.

Hi all,
I am getting things together so I don't have as much to do, too. It does give a lot of time when the work is done to get bored. However, I am not complaining since I don't have to answer to a boss to keep my job. I am the boss. LOL

I took my mom to town and it seems like every time I do that we eat out and that is not really a good thing, but she enjoys it so much. I am trying to just eat accordingly for the day around that meal so that it does not cause a major upset in calories.

I am getting things ready to take into our tax person. My dh always handled this so this is new to me. He would just say sign here and I would, but now I have to pay attention.

My students were really nice to me the other day. I went to the store where I buy things so cheap and they were going too, so they helped me take things out to the car. I bought them each a candy bar (skinny little things that they are they could afford it, LOL) and they just beamed. It was nice having them carry my groceries out since they don't have anyone to do that there, but then of course I had to carry all of them in. It had been 3 weeks since I had been there so I had to restock my refrigerator. Unfortunately they didn't have my salmon so that was a disappointment, but they did have lots of the glazed ham by Tyson which is expensive in stores but only $2 there. I got 5 boxes. They also had a lot of gluten free things and sugar free cookies and gluten free candy. I buy the sugar free cookies and candy for my mom because she likes them and it saves her money. That meant a lot of groceries to carry out and then I forgot the eggs and the dry cat food. I will get those Sunday at another store.

Marcy, I do that too almost every night. If I come in after dark and when I go feed the dog outside in her dog house after dark I will look up at the stars and check everything out, as if to verify that everything is in place and all is well with the universe. LOL These crystal clear cold evenings really give a clear, crisp sparkle to them.

Have a good weekend, everyone. Happy star gazing.

Hi everyone. I made it through the week. Sweet. We have been working on getting more efficient at work so the days seem to go by longer because we are not so darn busy. It's like we are putting ourself out of a job. Oh no, bad idea! Of course if just one of us is gone then it's a major struggle to get our work done.

I was up way past my bedtime last night because we cleaned house and my feet were so sore I knew they'd keep me awake. I did some research on the Tucson Gem Show. I was just bored.

I saw Orion and Pleiades the other night. Very nice to see those old friends.

Char, I hope you are staying safe and warm.

We had some friends over for dinner tonight. The other couple and Marty did some Thai food - I had some leftover mac and cheese and a 100 calorie english muffin and some wine.

Tomorrow is laundry day. I need to get Marty ready for a road trip for work.

Take care and have a great weekend.

Hello! We are doing well. I am going to leave a roast to cook in the crock pot tomorrow. I love having dinner almost ready when I get home.

I figured out our taxes (mostly anyway) tonight and it's looks like we are getting a refund (for a change). Sweet.

Char, I am glad you are over your virus. Sounds like you've had more snow than we have. Stay safe and warm.

Karen, congrats for being back on track on food. I am doing better as well but I can still improve on it. My program was on the electromagnetic spectrum. I made a little chart of the entire spectrum and listed the wavelength, temperature range, frequency, where it is studied from and what types of objects are studied in each. I had a few posters that showed some different objects in different wavelengths and took those with me. Next month a lady is doing the lunar phases with Oreo program. You can find it online if you are interested. Sounds fattening but fun. I'll be licking off all my full moons. Ha Ha.

Take care.

Hi all, I am just getting over a virus. What an ordeal! Glad to be over it.

The last snow storm that was supposed to hit us missed us. Thank goodness!!!!! Now this week is looking pretty good.

I went to my mom's today and took her to get groceries. I also bought a bit I lost for my battery powered screw gun. It is good to have it back.

Karen keep up the good fight.

Sorry to hear you guys are having such snowy and cold weather. The weather here actually warmed up over the weekend! It was like spring.

I thought I'd gotten back on track last week with my eating. I gave up drinking diet soft drinks for a challenge team that I'm on and tried to get more sleep and found that I had an easier time staying in my calorie range! I still haven't had a diet soda since 1/15, but I haven't slept enough the last couple nights and am finding the old eating habits creeping back in. The goal tonight is to get to bed earlier!

Marcy - What is the astronomy program you put together? I hope it went well. (You presented it last week, right?)

Char - I'm glad the guys from your church brought you some firewood! I'm sure it helps in the cold weather you're having. Stay warm!

Hi everyone,
We are getting the snow here, too. Right now I have 5 inches on the ground. I took my light weight, but huge, snow shovel and used it as a plough to get to my car. The snow was like powder and it was easy to make a path.

It is going down to 8 tonight and 4 tomorrow night. I left the water dripping this time and have a heat lamp to keep the pipes from freezing.

Two guys from our church delivered wood Wednesday to everyone who burns it in our church. I was sure surprised to see them but glad to get the wood.

It is so nice to be warm in this weather. We have another front with another possible 2-4 inches this weekend or Monday. Come on spring!!!!!

I made some chicken gumbo Wednesday night and made enough for several days. It was really good, but it made me sad that my husband couldn't be with me eating it. He used to love it so much and each time I made it he would say "You really out did yourself on this!!!"

Everyone stay warm and hope for spring.

Hi. How is everyone doing? I hope things are going well. I see the NE is getting another snow storm. Wow, that part of the country is really getting smacked. We are just cold and windy but have snow showers in the forecast for most of the weekend.

We went to supper tonight. I had a salad, a little soup, 1/2 of a steak and 1/2 of a baked potato. I brought home the rest of my dinner and put it in the freezer. We split a black forest cheesecake. Mmm. Chocolate and cherries are never a bad combo.

I worked some more on my astronomy program tonight. I made a little handout up to give people and went over my notes. I guess I am as ready as Iím going to be.

My poor family is having a rough week. One sister had a hysterectomy and will be taking it easy for 6 weeks. The other system had a knee injection that reacted and she canít walk. My mom is having her toe operated on Monday and will be on a walker for awhile. I think Iíd best stay on the couch and take it easy sounds like our gene pool just gave out this week! Aak.

Char, hope you are staying warm and your water is running okay again. No worries about the gummy bears; I will do that with gum drops. My mom and I always split a bag of the cinnamon hearts that come out for Valentines days. She is so good and makes them last for weeks; mine are gone in a day or two. I hate winter too.

Karen, enjoy your warm California weather. I am right there with you on struggling to get back on track after the holidays. I keep trying every day. It is hard to go to bed early when you are used to staying up late. I am not getting much sleep these days but if I go to bed early I just lay there. Maybe we can sleep in this weekend.

Take care.

Okay, so it has been a stressful couple of days. I awoke yesterday to find my pipes froze, not in the house but at the well even with a 100 watt regular light bulb on it (not the florescent light bulbs). Today a neighbor brought me a heat lamp and we thawed it for me but not completely so I am keeping it overnight.

Being without water yesterday I guess I was somewhat stressed, because I ate a whole package of gummy bears today. Yikes!!!! I sat there at my computer all day and got one at a time not even thinking about it. Finally that night I realized the whole package was empty.

I completely understand Karen about getting back to eating right after the holidays. You would have thunk I would have chosen something decadent, like chocolate, to binge on, but I don't keep it in the house since I am a chocoaholic. I thought the gummy bears would be a safe treat since I am not that fond of them, but apparently not.

I had a do-over day today and have done well.

Back to the pipes, we got the well partially thawed and noticed water coming out of a relief valve. I called a well guy that a friend recommended to me as honest, thorough, and inexpensive and I am glad I called. He at least asked enough questions to see if he needed to come out before he drove out and charged me a service charge.

It seems the pressure was too high kicking on the relief valve because it was still partially frozen between the well and the pressure tank. He recommended shutting off the well for and hour and a half and letting it thaw some more.

It seemed to have worked except for pressure in the line in my kitchen (the bathroom is okay). He said that it is probably frozen some under the kitchen sink, too, and if I had an extra heat lamp I could use it under the sink for a while or let it thaw naturally and leave the water dripping tonight.

He said if I needed him in the morning to call him but he thought all the signs were good and it would be fine. At least I have water. I did not get my water quota for yesterday as I was rationing water.

Did I say that I hate winter? If not consider it said.

Hi everyone! I was hoping I'd be able to get on a better sleep schedule this year, but so far, I've continued the bad habits of last year. Staying up too late is a hard habit to break!

I hope you all are staying nice and toasty warm in your ccccooooolllldddd weather. I have been spoiled by living in Southern California and thought that it was cold in Indiana when it was in the upper 20s and 30s over the holidays! I am planning to go up into the mountains sometime this month or next to try some cross-country skiing though.

I'm still struggling to get my eating back under control after my holiday traveling. It doesn't help that I've been stressed over work stuff.

Take care everyone! emoticon

I hate it when I don't get much sleep. I went two days on short sleep and then slept in today. It is really cold here, too. It is 9 degrees out there right now with a wind chill of -5. It is supposed to get to 0 tonight and tomorrow with a high tomorrow of 16. I hate winter. I am praying for an early spring.

However, I am pleased that all the work I have done to make the place fairly handicap accessible and warm seems to be paying off now. I stayed warm last night and I am warm so far tonight. I went out today and cleared the snow of the car, windows, and windshield. Swept the porch, etc. I did some house work, but cancelled my lessons this week. The roads are not cleared yet and I see no reason that any of us should risk life and limb over music lessons.

Hi everyone. I was up late last night working on a stupid photo on Photoshop Elements but it was fun. Then when I did get to bed my mind was busy worrying about something at work. It was a short night. Rats.

I have to get up an hour early tomorrow too so I plan on going to bed early tonight. I know - good one!

We were at work about 90 minutes late tonight so I wandered the halls for awhile to burn off some calories and warm up. Sadly we picked up McDonalds on the way home. I didn't eat it all though.

Char, I am so glad all the winterizing has helped keep your house warm. I am chilly right now but I am too lazy to go put on a sweater. Our wind chill is about 10 below right now so I can feel a chill by the window behind me. I keep peeking out the window in the morning and seeing Venus. It is such a bright orb in the morning sky. It never seems that bright in the evening sky which is strange because it is the same magnitude.

Well, take care and stay safe and warm.

Hi all,
I have been pretty busy the last few days. I have really stayed warm since they insulated my attic and caulked my walls, around windows and doors, and my ceilings. So far with teens and low twenties things are good. The real test will be tomorrow when it gets down to 8 degrees.

We have a dusting of snow, nothing to speak of, though we are supposed to get a little more snow during the day today.

We ate out yesterday and ate too much, but didn't get hungry until late evening. I had a half of a salmon filet and some cottage fries in olive oil and saved the rest of them to eat instead of bread with eggs today. I was so lucky!!! I got a double yoke egg today and that was a real treat. Don't know exactly how to record that one. LOL

I finally finished "The Jesus Incident" and will start on "The Lazarus Effect" tomorrow. Then I will see if I can find "Airplane" since I have seen the "Princess Bride".

Marcy, it sounds like you are catching on with your new Mac and the new software. It is always a challenge to see how something new works, but makes you feel so good to have figured it out.

Yesterday with the front coming in was a particularly bad FM day, but today is better. I am going to try to get some housework done since it is really not a day to go anywhere.

Make yourselves a great week!

Hi everyone.

We had a lazy day. I made blueberry muffins for breakfast (I made Marty some eggs and bacon too). For lunch I baked some round steak with pizza sauce in the oven and some potatoes au gratin. For supper we had a hot pretzel.

We took down the Christmas tree and Marty vacuumed for me after getting everything put back where it usually goes in the living room. I read a few tutorials for Photoshop Elements. I figured out how to change colors of an object. I did try the sparkle effect on my avatar but it looks kind of strange. I will mess with it some more to see if I can come up with something I like.

We are getting another snowstorm and frigid temperatures here. Rats. Marty had to go in very early Wednesday so I will have to get up early that day. I donít want to drive the truck to work on bad road.

Well, I think I will get ready for bed, call my mom and start another book.

Take care and have a great week.

Hi everyone. I have been preoccupied the last few evenings but I feel like Iíve accomplished some of what I was working on so I am back to my usual goofing off online.

I installed Office for Mac and made my February newsletter in Word and also made one in Pages. Mind you since I donít know what I am doing it takes me awhile mostly because I have to do a search for everything I canít figure out how to do. Then I decided to use one of their templates for a newsletter and spent several hours on that but finally have a newsletter I like. Woo hoo! I cleared out all the text and saved it as a template so hopefully the March newsletter will go more quickly. Since I just learned how to do so many things in Pages I decided to make a handout for our meeting too. Next I will venture over to Photoshop Elements and start to try and figure that out. My first project is to figure out how to put my diamond on as the top of my Christmas tree. Then I want to see if I can get my avatar to sparkle.

I did finish my latest book on Thursday evening but think I will spend a few days on my new software before starting the next book.

Today we went out for breakfast and ran several errands. Marty went over to his bossís house to help her remove a microwave from the wall. Then we both went back to help her put her new one back in. We went to lunch then picked up groceries for the week. We have another snowstorm coming in tonight and are expecting 4 to 8 inches and COLD weather.

My mom went to Walmart today (remember she is slow, ditzy, hunched over and has to wear a boot on her foot because of her toe surgery) and she said she spent 2 hours wandering the store. They have flowers inside the door and she stopped to look at them for a while. She has reached a point where she is in awe of everything like a young child. I guess some guy watched her looking at them so he bought her some flowers and came and found her in the store to give them to her with receipt because he wanted her to have them. How nice is that? She said she had to give him a hug. She probably reminded him of his mom or grandma. She said she was worn out when she got home but did get her groceries in the house okay. My dad was out of town for the day. A few hours later her neighbor came by and said her car door was open and asked her if she wanted her to close it. I am surprised my dad will leave her alone anymore. She is one stubborn and tough lady though so she keeps going and going but just slowly. Bless her heart.

Char, yes I think you should see Airplane. It is a classic all right. Chili sounds like a good meal this time of year. Great idea to have an apple for dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth. How nice to get your house all sealed up and insulated. I bet it will not only help in the cold but also in the heat. Sweet. Good plan to take a week off from teaching too. I think you should relax a little bit; you have been so busy these past few weeks.

Did you see the images of the storm on Saturn? The one from Cassinni is amazing!

Well, I think I will go start to watch Photoshop Elements tutorials.

Laters,
Stay safe and warm!
Marcy

PJ, I have seen Princess Bride and liked it a lot. I have not seen Airplane, but apparently I must.

Marcy, glad things went better for you today and I will check out that series as soon as I finish my Frank Herbert books.

I am currently reading the "The Jesus Incident" which is a sequel to "Destination Void" and then after that I will read the sequel to it which is "The Lazarus Effect." Then I will probably need a little comedy relief.

I have been eating a lot of fish, mostly salmon (not canned) I have also been experimenting with some home made chili. It really tastes good on cold days.
My dessert now is an apple and it seems to remove my sweet tooth cravings.

Tomorrow they will start working on caulking, sealing, insulating my whole house and measuring for new doors and windows. This is a lot quicker than they thought so it is nice that I might actually get a more energy efficient house before spring.

I am not sure I am going to teach this week with everything that is going on, plus I think I am coming down with the crude. Maybe everything is catching up with me. I will be glad when I can slow down a little....not to a bore, but to pleasantly interesting but relaxing hum.

Happy Wednesday everyone.

Hi everyone.

Pam, I like your revision of the poem. I agree, when it is busy at work the day just flies by. It sounds like you had a great workout too. Woo hoo! Happy Birthday and good luck to your team.

Char, sorry to hear you had such a busy and hectic day yesterday. I hope you donít hurt so bad today. It sounds like you did a lot of work yesterday. The Stephanie Plum series really hit the spot with me. She is a bungling bounty hunter, has a policeman for a boyfriend and a former navy seal bounty hunter that is her mentor and her grandma is a total crackup. Sometimes Amazon or the authorĎs website has an excerpt you can read. The first one in the series is ďOne for the MoneyĒ.

Karen, good movie choices. Airplane is a classic!

I was quite good on food today. Yippee. Cheerios, strawberries, mac and cheese, 1 beef rib, 100 call snack, homemade pizza and slow churned ice cream. My mantra today was ďif not today, when?Ē so that helped me refrain from raiding a candy dish or the Coke machine.

Work was actually a little slow today which was a nice change of pace after the last few months. I was kind of bored since I wasnít jumping in and helping my team get their work done. Sweet.

I am off to read. This book had me up late last night and I am only a little over 50% through it.

Laters,
Marcy

Hi everyone! I'm just now starting to get caught up on all my SparkTeams after being out of town from 12/24 to 1/1. I'm way behind on my emails still, though.

Char - I'm sorry to hear you had a rough New Year's Eve and that yesterday was a bad day, too. Good luck with your diningroom project! Oh, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend the movie The Princess Bride. If you like slapstick comedy, Airplane! is a classic as well. Or, if you like really silly movies, maybe you'd like Spaceballs which parodies Star Wars and other movies. I'm having trouble thinking of more recent comedies that I especially liked!

PJ - Happy Birthday! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Marcy - I enjoy the Stephanie Plum books, too! I also enjoyed the Ode to the New Year that you posted. I had seen it before, but it was fun to read it again!

- Karen

I was so busy yesterday that I never even turned on my computer. Looks like today will be busy, too and the whole week for that matter.

Marcy, I have seen Young Frankenstien, funny, but not I Married an Axe Murderer. I will have to look that one up. Thanks for the suggestion of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum books. I will check into those, too.

As for messing up on my diet, I didn't have time yesterday and God wouldn't let me. LOL Not for the lack of trying though. I stopped at Walmart and they had this Pecan pie on sale for $3.00 and I just had to buy it. Fortunately?, I was spared the pecan pie because I never got home with it. I lost my Pecan Pie!!!!! Apparently the check out person handed me one sack at Walmart and not the other and I really wanted that Pecan Pie!! I called back and they will make it right they said. I told them the only way it will be right is if I get a pecan pie because I had had my heart set on that!!

PJ, Happy Birthday!!!! How good it must feel to have the holidays at Kohl's behind you.

As you can gather already had a terrible day yesterday as I had to run in an take my mom to get her medicine and to the bank and be back in time for 3 guys I had put emergency calls into to come and climb up into my attic. Workers froma government agency called me unexpectedly yesterday morning to say they would be out to measure my house for windows and doors today. I was told on their previous visit that if I wanted insulation in my attic I would have to have it cleaned out by the next time they came, but they would not be back until February or March. Well, their call pretty well undid my day so I had to hurry to get all I needed done by today so that if they checked as they said before they would my attic would be ready. The frustrating thing about it is that they haven't even shown up yet, so if the don't I will be really mad at having my day ruined yesterday.

Well, as I said I was in a project to rearrange my dining room so I had put lots of things away, swept mopped, dusted, waxed, etc. and then came the attic cleaning episode. By the time they left, my truck was filled with boxes, dirtdobber mud nests and other attic leavings from roofing and years of not using it were broken up and tracked all over my floor, not to mention the clutter of 30 years of things stored there which I had to find a place for until they can spray insulate my attic. I had to find places for that when after tackling my dining room project storage had become scarce, even with using those plastic bins.

I stayed up until midnight trying to get my house back to close to where it was before all this happened. I had to resweep, remop, redust, rewax and shine, and try my best to unclutter.
emoticon
I really didn't know whether to thank them for their help or cry!!!!

I hurt so bad when I finally crawled into bed and I left a lot to do today which I am doing. At the end of yesterday I hurt so bad I cried and moaned and finally went to bed and called a friend in an earlier time zone which did seem to help, as did getting off my feet and resting.

Then I realized I was missing the Quadrantids but was just to miserable to go out and look.

I hope everyone's day is better today.

I can say the number that arose made more of OMG than a clatter.

The only good thing about the Kohl's being so busy was that the time flies by so fast.

Today I stayed home no sub job and the other school does not start back til Wednesday. Walked over 3 miles on the treadmill, went to curves and then did my Bootcamp 10 minute workout.

The best part was I finally got caught up on my emails which I have been very far behind started on the morning of the 1st with almost 2000 emails and this evening finally had 0 emails unread. Most were deleted had emails beck to Thanksgiving, and realized it was just not possible to read them all and many were just FYI or Family Feed back.

Have a Great day, tomorrow is my Birthday and my favorite team Ohio State University plays against Arkansas in the bowl game tomorrow night in New Orleans. Nothing would make me happier than for them to win.

Have a great evening.

This is pretty funny:

Ode To The New Year

'Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).

I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared; The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese And the way I'd never said, 'No thank you, please.'

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt And prepared once again to do battle with dirt - I said to myself, as I only can 'You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!'

So - away with the last of the sour cream dip, Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished 'Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie - not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie, I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore But isn't that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.

Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

Char, working on your dining room would be a fun project. I did okay on food until about 3 pm when my employees brought me candy and an ice cold Coke. I was working on their performance appraisals. I thought that was pretty funny. Of course I couldn't insult them and turn away their offerings. My sweet sour ribs were pretty good and we will get 2 lunches out of the leftovers. Woo hoo for leftovers. Marty was in a rush to get home tonight so I was done with dishes by 6:10. That was nice.

As for funny movies - we like "So I Married An Axe Murderer". I also like "Young Frankenstein". Those would be my 2 favorite comedies. Have you read any of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum books? They make me laugh out loud at least a couple of times each book.

Well, I am off to read.

Hi All,
PG, I would not have traded places with you at Kohl's for anything. LOL I am glad you survived.

Marcy I am sorry about your new car. It could be the tires but some cars just handle better than others. Right now I need a new tire on my passenger's front but the others are in good shape. I figure I will get a cheaper tire at Walmart and have them balanced and it should wear out about the same time as the better ones do and I can put a whole new set of good ones on then...if that makes sense.

Have any suggestions for funny movies then? I don't really like gore. I want something to just kind of kick back and laugh til my sides ache.

I ate the last of the dessert left over from New Year's today and now I can start getting down to business. I can relate to craving sweets after the Thanksgiving/Christmas/NewYear binge. I think it might take a while for our bodies to right themselves. I have never had so many offerings in the way of sweets until this year and then everyone wanted to give me something sweet to eat to cheer me up. I guess the sweets probably got the pheromones going and did mellow me out, but what a trade off. Now I have to work to get the weight I lost back off.

Today was a good day. I was busy all day and got lots done. I am trying to figure a way to rearrange my dining room and give it a new look. Boy, does it need it. I need something to lighten it up and make it interesting. That will probably be my first major new year project

I am still planning on at least a few minutes of the
Quadrantids, but it will be cold here.

Have a great Monday.

Hi. I made biscuits for breakfast then ventured out to the store. Wow is it nasty out there! My new car isnít as good in snow and ice as my old car was. That other car had Michelin and I am convinced that is the difference. It is not horrid on snow and ice but it could be better.

I made mac and cheese for lunch and a few 96% lean hamburgers. We have a couple of lunches left from the mac and cheese. Marty is making some lamb curry for himself now.

Char, I am glad yesterday was better for you. I agree that now the holidays are past it will be easier to not have so much junk food around. Of course now I am craving sweets. Rats. Galaxy Quest is a great movie. Inglorious Bastards is only funny in parts, it is actually kind of gross at times but the part Brad Pitt plays is very different for him. He is pretty much a redneck who is tasked with killing nazis during WWII. I think a snowman can easily last until February or March - itís definitely a winter decoration.

Pam, I bet it was crazy busy for you at Kohlís. I sure like the bargains you can find there. Happy Birthday! Are you doing anything special for the day?

Take care.
Marcy

Sorry to hear about your bad New Year Eve evening CINDERRELIC. I had to work both the 31st and the 1st at Kohl's but it was a good time and got a lot done and made the day go so fast. Schools start back tomorrow and will be back to subbing, taking vacation days this week from Kohl's have to use by the end of the month besides Tuesday is my birthday so wanted to use my vacation pay this week and then last week of the month.

We always have pork and sauerkraut every year good luck can't remember a New Year's Day without eating this, just made mashed potatoes with it and enjoyed.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the new year.

Happy New Year!

Thanks Marcy on the photo. I guessed it was time to do more than just a Eating Healthy sign. LOL

Today is better, as New Year's Day was not that big of an event for us. Mostly we ate, which is what I did too much of at my Mom's, and have been doing too much of for the last week. I have a good day and then a day where I can't seem to lay off the sweets, but now that I have the New Year meal out of the way and the holidays past I can get on with losing the weight I let creep up.

The Garmin sounds like a nice gift. I have thought about getting one of those and that wasn't a bad price either. I may have to check out that movie you watched. I like funny movies. I guess that is why I really like Galaxy Quest. There are just some times you really need to have a laugh.

It is cold today, but it is supposed to be a little warmer by the 4th so maybe I can stand 30 minutes. I am not going to stand out there and freeze though. We will see what the weather brings.

I am leaving my snow man up a while longer I think, but it is not exactly like a Christmas tree. I figure it is more like a winter decoration and I think winter is going to be here for a while.

However, next week looks pretty sunny and reasonable temperatures for January. At least not freezing and icy, snowy precipitation all the time. I hope we have more weeks like what is predicted for next week.

Glad your New Year has started out good so far and mine has, too. Everyone HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year. 2011 is officially here.

Char, I hate to hear yesterday was so hard for you. Holidays and birthdays are so hard when you are missing a loved one. Hugs to you my friend. Your dump cake sounds great. I really like the regular version of it but it almost tastes like ďmoreĒ. Your dinner with your mom sounds really good. The Quadrantid meteor shower is one I have never ventured out to watch. Itís too brief of a window and it is always bitterly cold here that time of year. I like your new picture.

We were up till about 2:30 watching Inglorious Bastards. Brad Pitt's character is so funny in that movie. We really went all out on alcohol last night - we split a little individual bottle of chardonnay at midnight. We are such wild and crazy people.

We slept in until 9 this morning. I swear I heard the doorbell of something at 9 that woke me up but no one was at the door and neither of our phones had a notice. Strange. Maybe I imagined it.

Marty hooked up his phone to the bluetooth in his new GPS this morning and it seems to work pretty well. I found a Garmin for him at Best Buy for $99 and one of the features I thought he'd like is running his phone through the GPS. The diesel is kind of noisy so we will see how it works in the truck.

I think I will leave up our tree another week. It is not in the way and we didn't get it up until a few weeks ago.

I ordered some towels from Land's End this morning. We are still using some we got for wedding gifts - almost 20 years this now and they have seen better days. We bought some really nice, soft, fluffy ones at Bed, Bath and Beyond last summer but they are not absorbent at all. They are all cotton too. I just ordered 2 and if we like them I will get 2 more.

Do any of you visit the Hungry Girl website? She is going to have a show on the Cooking channel starting next week. She always seems to have some great ideas and recipes.

Take care.

Well I had somewhat of a melt down New Year's Eve evening. It had not occurred to me that it was New Year's Eve all day but when it hit who knew that that would be the holiday I would miss my husband the most. I guess because it was an evening we usually spent together with friends or alone and somehow watching TV (which I don't usually do) or watching a movie alone just doesn't cut it for seeing in the new year.

However, for today I made a cranberry and no sugar added fruit cocktail dump cake. I made it with the no sugar added fruit cocktail first, Thick it to make the cranberries into the consistency of pie filling next, low sugar white cake mix next and topped with butter and a sprinkling of stevia. When it was almost done I added crushed almonds on top of that. I was really not sure about this version of the old fashioned dump cake, but it was all I had in my cupboard and when I tasted it, surprisingly it was really good!!! I now call it my Holiday Cake and will save the recipe as it is fairly healthy and low calorie.

My mom and I will have some with glazed ham tomorrow and blackeyed peas which my mom says we always have to eat for good luck. Of course there will be other veggies, maybe sweet potatoes, or who knows.

I hope the weather will warm up for the Quadrantid Meteor Shower, but I am not holding out a lot of hope with the forecast being what it is.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy New Years Eve and wishing us all a better, healthier, and happier year this year than the year before.
