December greetings -- Sorry I haven't set up the December chatting place yet, but will right after I finish this note. Time marches on -- we did have a pleasant lunchtime with our youngest son, his wife, and 12 year old granddaughter, plus the other grandmother. That lady is a dialysis patient, so she has lots of diet restrictions and she is an insulin-dependent Type 2 diabetic. My husband hasn't reached a good level on his insulin yet, so the amount is increasing. Took him to his chemotherapy treatment today and did a bit of Christmas shopping. He came home and went down for a nap -- the dog and I decided to rake leaves since it was a nice afternoon in the 50s. We did get down to 33 degrees to start the day, so it was a bit frosty. Many events around the area were cancelled due to a wind and rainstorm on Sunday. I do miss the snow because there are so many memories of building snow forts with our boys and going to Mt. Shasta to ski and do sledding. Our dogs always enjoyed the snow -- they would roll in it and eat it and watch it fall during a storm. Blessings to all of you as you head into winter weather and the various holidays of December. My husband's cousin who is nine years younger needs a kidney -- his diabetes has caused one kidney to stop functioning. He isn't doing dialysis yet -- he hopes that one of his 3 sons will be a "match" for a transplant. Our neighbor is now going to dialysis three days a week after having heart failure problems. All of her ailments have been caused by years of chemotherapy for breast cancer when she was much younger. Eat your veggies, walk those dogs, stay warm...

Dogs share our lives more completely than does any other animal. Since their domestication, dogs have accompanied and served us in many ways. Two apex predators managed to find mutual benefit in a close relationship that is considered "commensal" -- dogs developed an intense, familial bond with humans.

We are cold over Thanksgiving, but farther north and close to the coast we usually don't see snow till January, but I do remember one fun and snowy Thanksgiving at the Grange Hall. Also, several years we rode the horses in the snow to cut trees. I wonder if Dad waited for snow on purpose. Such wonderful memories.

Heading to Son and DIL this afternoon. I think about 24 people were invited. We shall see who shows up. Looking forward to it. Thanksgiving was always my holiday. The kids went elsewhere for Christmas.

Sending hugs and love for you all to have a blessed and loving day.

Greetings on a Thanksgiving Day! Haven't been doing too much except some yard work and taking my husband to doctors and various testing places to see how the chemotherapy is working or causing problems. Now he is doing one long-acting insulin injection every morning because the medicines are making his diabetes much worse. Today we are going to our son's house for "lunch" -- will have a variety of food items. Our DIL's mother is also diabetic. I am cooking a small turkey breast and bringing fruit (fresh, canned, and frozen), and some "rolls". I did bake two pumpkin pies for us to share with someone (they wanted apple pie, so I just bought one from a grocery store). Got to see our Florida family for a few hours over the past week-end. They decided to drive up from Winter Springs, stay two nights and one day (in a motel), and then go home. They mainly spent time with the local son's family. I shopped for various "deli" foods, but they stopped and got Olive Garden entrees. Our granddaughter with the brain tumor was doing okay -- no seizures while she was here. We had not seen her or her brother and mother since last December when they came up for a short visit right before Christmas. Our neighbor who has been in heart and kidney failure finally got home last night from the hospital -- she has been doing dialysis and they finally set up out-patient sessions. She is eight years younger, but has had a history of several types of cancer since she was in her 40s. Some of the chemotherapy damaged various organs. It is sunny here today -- in the low 70s by afternoon. Our family members in Oregon and N. California are getting snow and high winds. The son in Redding was going to try to drive to the coast (Eureka) today. We had lots of snowy Thanksgivings when we lived in N. California and Oregon. Hope you have some special moments and can be thankful for many things. We treasure each day now and know that our granddaughter and her grandfather may not be here for these holidays next year. Take care, thank someone for being kind, spread cheer...

I hope you and your husband get to come West to visit family.

More dizzy and not well issues here. So I think I will go to bed and hopefully feel better in the morning.

Greetings on a Friday Evening from South Carolina. It has been raining all day -- we need the rain, but it is also cold and gloomy. The dog went out a few times, but mostly we have been indoors. My husband got the results of his CT Scan on Tuesday -- the cancer in both lungs has been "beat back" again by the chemotherapy, but his lung condition is not great (the COPD is worse than the cancer). He wants to keep taking the treatments so he can have "more time" and breathe better. It only took 2 months for the cancer tumors to grow back when the chemo. was stopped a few months ago. Sadly, so many people at the cancer center have "relapsed" since we got into the autumn season. That seems to happen and of course it is sad that their hopes are dashed so close to the holiday season. My family members in Eureka, California are having their "final family Thanksgiving in California" and hope to move to Dallas, Oregon by spring. Three of their daughters live in Oregon and all of their grandchildren (four granddaughters). We moved to Eureka from Philomath, Oregon in September 1960. Our youngest brother was born right after we moved there. That brother lives in Hilo, Hawaii now, but has a lake house in N. California near where our middle son lives. Sure wish we could get back there while my husband can enjoy traveling. I was ready to pack up this month and go to the desert house in S. Nevada. Our son who lives here would help get his father there. Haven't seen our Florida grandchildren all year and it has been 19 months since we saw our grandson in N. California. Regarding the dog that bit the neighbor -- she is being watched by "animal control". She really was just guarding her home territory. Haven't seen that neighbor who got bit since it happened -- she is okay and it is best that she walk elsewhere (lots of area for her to go and no reason to come on our road). Now we have a fox visiting in the evenings -- beautiful animal, but must be hungry...

The one that bit me was loose and ran out of its yard and across the street. Sadly it was put down. It was not the first time.

I am sitting in the basement of the Colony House at Rockaway on the ocean. I should be typing my NaNoWriMo stuff, but got sidetracked. The weather is perfect, so hope to walk on the beach today too.

Greetings to the team! Here is our venue for sharing what we are doing to get healthier and avoid the various problems of aging. Some of us have been "chatting" a long time. Regarding our neighbor's dog -- she was in her yard/garage when the lady came walking at dusk. Bella was protecting her territory/home because the lady walks quickly and is usually listening to music or tapes on a device or talking on her cell phone. The owner was in the garage working and had no idea that the lady had been "attacked". Since the incident, the pet control officer has come to the house twice to see if the dog is "vicious". She is usually very quiet, protective of her owner, afraid of noises, and loves to go on walks with me and my dog. It is a lesson to all of us that dogs perceive "threats" based on previous experiences and/or their training and relationships. The owner is very careful to keep her from people and frightening situations.
