Duke did sing, but usually only if someone else started it first. he did not like sirens or the sound of my daughter practicing on her recorder! LOL

Sasha is a collie too. I had never heard of "collie song". When she is playing and being affectionate with Buddy, she makes all kinds of noises that are hard to describe. One day while looking up black collies on your tube, a video captioned "collie song" caught my attention. This collie was singing to her puppy the same way Sasha sings to Buddy. Did Duke sing too?

We always sing to the dogs and cats... and to anyone that will listen! LOL. Years go, when my kids were very young,we had a border collie named "duke". we would sing "Duke of Earl" to him all the time. My son who was probably around 3 at that time, was singig it one day in the car, and I realized he was singing "Duke's a girl". I thought that was so adorable, but I am sure that my poor Duke was highly isulted to think that his boy thought he was a girl! LOL
I still miss Duke, he was a part of our family for 15 years and was greatly loved.

I just caught myself singing "The Air That I Breathe" by the Hollies with Belle Lyrics.

"All I need is the Belle that I breathe, and I love herrrrrrr....."

Yeah, I know it doesn't make any sense but does it really have to??!

After I read your post last night I checked out Sultan of Swing on You Tube, which led to Eric Clapton, which led to Santana, which led to Buddy Rich. Then I realized I had really deviated from my original intent which was to check out your Sultan. Still it was worth listening to Buddy Rich. He was really a brilliant drummer.

Keep on Singing even when your pups critique you.

I shared the puppy story of me singing to Jack and him putting his big ol' paw over my mouth to shut me up with a friend, a new friend, the other day and she almost ran off the road laughing! But, I am working on words to Dire Straits, Sultans of Swing for this sultan.... I'm thinking he's the Sultan, he's the sultan, the king....

I had to resurect this thread. My husband is in the bedroom singing to Sasha. I started craking up. It was all I could do to stay quiet so I could here the words.

"Everybody loves some poochy sometime....
If I had it in my power every dog would have your charms......"

The thing is my hubby has the most beautiful voice when he does not think anyone is listening. Now he has quit singing Dean Martin and is on to Elvis.

Some Cockatiels Talk, Mickey I guess talks a little. I tell him to step "Up" on my finger and he will. But about the only thing he says is "Up! Up! Up! Up!" if he things I am sleeping too late to suit him. He does a good job imitating sirens of police cars too. emoticon

Amy,
Does your cockatiel sing her song back to you? That Oscar Meyer tune is good for a variety of lyrics.

Several years ago Hubby and I were singing Polly Wolly Doodle to the grandsons in the back seat of the car. He was harmonizing with me and we sounded really good. I turned around to see if we had impressed the boys and they were both sound asleep.

Maybe we can't impress the kids, but at least the dogs like our singing.

This thread is great fun.

No jokes today. Here's a little Lyle Lovett in honor of Bear's homecoming:

So meet a Bear and take him out to lunch with you
And even though your friends may stop and stare
Just remember that's a Bear there in the bunch with you
And they just don't come no better than a Bear

I don't sing to my dogs, sometimes I sing to my cockatiel, ("Oh I wish I was a pretty cockatiel that is what I'd truly like to be, because if I was a pretty cockatiel everyone would be in love with me."To the tune of I wish I was an Oscar Mayer Weiner), but my dogs do sing to me, or us sometimes. emoticon

-- I concur with Spiff! I'm laughing like mad and the Shack song is in my head.... I'll have to change it to "Jack"! But, as a puppy, Jack had huge paws on his little body and I was singing to him one day and he put one of those big ol' paws over my mouth! I have never sung to him again! My husban laughed until I thought he'd bust something! I do talk baby talk to him and hold him on my lap.... Yes, all 66 pounds of him, and tell him the 3 Little Pigs story and how his cousin tried to break into their homes.... His cousin the wolf is in alot of stories you know.... I also tell him stories about my deceased brother and sister and how much they would love him. I tell him stories about them when it thunders. I tell him that is just the angels bowling and Aunt Amy or Uncle Shaun must've made a strike! He was at the vet during a storm and I almost called to have one of them go tell him that it was just the angels bowling.... He gets so scared during storms! But, after he shut my mouth, no more singing!
I've truly enjoyed this thread! Thanks!

emoticon Awww, shucks. Thanks! Most folks just think something's wrong with me.

Bear had ACL surgery yesterday, and is coming home tonight. Rehab is going to involve several weeks of not letting him do much. He is a born athlete and is going to hate it.

I don't know if this can become a whole song, but your message and Bear's situation made me think of this:

I'm lying in bed,
Just like Spiff's dog Wilson did . . .

This is the funniest thread I've ever read! ShakAttack, you're a comedic genius. I love that George Harrison song but it's forever changed for me, now.

I don't sing to Wilson but one night while cuddling with him on the bed, I told him the story of the day he came home to live with me. I didn't leave out one detail. He really did seem to be listening. If this paragraph right here doesn't scream 'single girl living alone with her dog,' I don't know what does.

Oh, and Lois & Brams' Elephant Show rules!!! Cathy, I hope you do the hand motions for the dogs. ;)

Bear and Shak are getting old, and every once in a while their guts get all messed up. We have a song for the occasion, sung to the tune of "I've Got My Mind Set on You":

Please help me have normal poo
Please help me have normal poo
Please help me have normal poo
Please help me have normal poo

It's gonna take chicken
A whole lotta boiled chicken
Hide my pills in lots of chicken
To do it right, mom

It's gonna take yogurt
Plain organic yogurt
Rice, cottage cheese, and yogurt
To feed me, to feed me, to feed me, to feed me, to feed me,
To feed me right

Please help me have normal poo
Please help me have normal poo
Please help me have normal poo
Please help me have normal poo

And this time I know it's good
Not crappy diet food
I know when you go to feed it
I know that I really can eat it

Please help me have normal poo
Normal poo
Please help me have normal poo
Normal poo

You two are keeping me smiling. I don't sing to the dogs or anyone. I do sing in church since it is the one place I think that I will be forgiven for my awful voice. We used to play the harmonica for my old dog Abby and she would howl along.

OK this is plain silly, but now I am experimenting with songs. It was 112 degrees today. We just don't get that hot. So we are holed up in the house with a portable air conditioner and several fans. We can't walk, so we are singing.

Both dogs loved the theme song from the Adam's Family. I think it is the finger snapping. Now I need to rewrite the lyrics.

PS: I can hear Scooby Doo singing Skinamarinky dink

I teach preschool. Buddy loves the nursery songs, I think, because they are repetive, energetic and have arm motions. Wheels On the Bus is another favorite.

Haven't tried "Maneater." I'm not actually a big Hall and Oates fan; the song to Zelda just sort of came to me.

I do, of course, have alternate lyrics to the B-52's "Love Shack," but that's for another day.

Cathy, I don't think I know the song you mentioned. Is it new?

I had to look this up on Youtube. "Your A Rich Girl". So I bet you could have fun making up lyrics to "Maneater" too.

I sing lots of nursery songs at school, so Buddy gets to listen to "Skinamarink". He likes the high notes.

Anyone remember Hall and Oates?

I sang this to Zelda this morning. It needs work:

You're a bitch, girl,
Now you live with us
And you know it's all gonna be OK
You can rely on Daddy's cuddles
You can rely on Mommy's cuddles

You're a bitch, girl,
And you're home with us
So you know it's all gonna be OK
You can eat kibbles
They'll get you real far, get you real far

Don't you know, it is good
To eat what we're feeding you
You can get along if you grow to be strong
And you're gonna be strong--Who-oah! . . .

You guys make me feel so good. I was so worried I was the only one who made up songs. It's completely common for me to hear a song on the radio right before I get home and then just replace the lyrics for the dogs when I get home. I love the teapot song, I'm gonna have to use that one.

I do, lol. And talk to them all day. We used to have a Lab mix, Snoopy. I would sing "No Dogs Allowed" song to him. He would look so insulted. lol

I sing my own words to the childrens tune, "I'm a little Teapot" to Belle. It drives my kids nuts and my DH just shakes his head.

"She's my little Bell-y, yes she is..
She's my little Bell-y, yes she is..
Everybody loves her, yes they do...
Everybody loves her, how 'bout you!"

OMG, only to fellow mutt lovers would I disclose such silliness, but I know you all will understand and appreciate it.

I know Belle loves it. And I guess that's all that matters!

Thanks for the fun thread!

WACKO # 3, accounted for here in Moore, OK! LOL!!!!!

Well, to my former girls: LADY, I sang that song to her after it came out; Amanda (Rose), I always sang THAT song, by WAYLON, whenever it came on!
SHE LOVED IT! LOL!

Now, I sing FANCY, by REBA to Fancy Jayne;
LUCILLE to Lucy (Rose) whenever that one comes on!!!

Yes, not by design, but all of my gals thus far, have had names that had songs just for them!!!!!
I find that rather funny, don't you???????
Oh and of course, we always dance, if possible!!!!

Jeff now says, we cannot break the trend, all of our future gals will have to have "song" names!! LOL!!!!

May have to resort to you guys here, or "google" to
discover them though! But, hopefully not for a VERY LONG TIME, in the future!! These two are very happy & healthy, and all we can handle, no 3rd kid due!

I still want my 2nd Poodle, but, she'll have to wait for awhile yet, these 2 think they're lapdogs anyway!
LOL!!!!!!!!!! 40 & 75 POUND LAPDOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buddy and I howl together for the fun of it and Sasha sings her Collie Songs. But neither dog is very impressed with the songs I sing. However, our Doogie who has been gone about three years loved to hear me tell the story of the Three Bears using all the different voices. As soon as I started "Once upon a time" he would get close so he could watch my face. He thought I was brilliant.

I talk baby talk, but singing, come on. Talk about howling at the moon. What a racket they would make to try and keep tune with me.

Just regular songs, at least the melodies. The words tend to be whatever I happen to remember that particular day. I'm amazed at how often I am haunted by songs learned at Girl Scout camp 30+ years ago.

What do you sing? Do you sing regular songs or do you make up songs for them?

Wacko number 2 reporting for duty! I never sing in front of people, far too self conscious to even try. I do serenade my pups on a regular basis, usually while walking a secluded back woodsy path. And who can resist singing during a bath?

I have an awful singing voice and I'm bet sometimes my dogs wish I wouldn't, but I do sing to them. They each have special songs. For instance for Sarah I sing, K-Sarah, Sarah, what a good dog you were today, what a good dog in ever way, K-Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. Being the good sports they are the dogs will sit attentively & listen to their song. I have to sing to them before they will go to their beds at night.

Am I the only total wack-o on our team?
