My son's school has started a recorded message that goes to the parents phones when there is a change in schedule or an special event. I'm glad that they have started this process instead of wasting paper that would go straight in the landfills. If we take care of our planet then it will take care of us longer. Have a good Thursday and Fall.

What wonderful schools. On the first day of school this year each of my 2 sons brought home a 6 page packet from each of their 6 classes. Each packet said the same thing - What a waste!

Our PTA sends a Go Green newsletter every week. Paper only goes home to kids who have not signed up for go green.

We post our PTA Newletter and all letters from the principle etc. via email link to school webwite. The problem is most parents are so busy that don't check it regularly and miss events taking place at the school or sponsored by the school. The school now has a policy that any papers being sent home to parents can only be sent home on Thursday and we copy front and back so we cut down on paper usage. This year the cafeteria decided instead of giving the kids plastic disposable utensils to go back to regular utensils and wash them instead of throwing them in the trash. More work for the cafeteria ladies but better for the environment.

our school uses a website and email notification to replace most of the paper and the teachers have access to classnet where they can post the class schedule, projects, homework, etc This is the first year we have a teacher planning to use classnet (grade 6) and I'm looking forward to having a better idea of what is going on for my daughter!

The school has paper copies available for those who do not have access to a computer at home. When they do have something that they send home in paper copy they send to "only or oldest" only so that we rarely get duplicates of the same paper...just one more way to cut down on paper!

Our schools give us an option of email notification or paper. I haven't had any problems yet!

The elementary school that my children attend has started a "Going Green" program this year. Instead of sending papers home for after school activities, reminders, PTO papers, and the school newsletter, the school has set up a website that will send you notifications about any updates to these types of things. Do any of you have a similar program at your school and if so, does it work? Do you have any programs at your schools that fit in the "Go Green" category?
