Since your LO is climbing out of the bed you may want to transition him into a toddler bed and put a gate to his room for night time use. He may just like the thrill of being able to get out of his bed on his own and get to where he wants to go.

Good Luck!

Have you tried a child gate either in across his door or at the top of the stairs? How do you get him to obey during the day? That would be the same tactic to use to get him to stay in bed… by getting up after you've put him to bed, he is disobeying…
The child gate worked well with our kids…only at night for their safety (can't have them roaming the house when we're asleep).
We had nearly a year of nightly battles with our DD, but she has finally almost learned to stay in bed when we put her there (now she only calls for us to come back, and might get up once in a week).

Ok, my son just turned 2 yesterday. And he still sleeps in his crib. 3 nights ago, he threw the biggest fit and got out of his crib and came down the stairs screaming. again last night got out, but didn't hear him until he was downstairs. he was very sneaky! So any advice on what I can do? he won't sleep in a toddler bed because he will get right up. I'm at my wits end and I need sleep! I have to turn off all the lights downstairs and let him sleep on the couch :( Help me!
