oh thank god i am not the only one with a messy house!! it drives me nuts, but with 2 working parents and a year old son who's mission in life it is to move and run and be outside as much as possible, cleaning is almost impossible. i feel like a complete slob, i know my grandmother is turning over in her grave, and the sight of my sons laundry on the floor makes me sad, but you can only do so much!

I am a SAHM and think my place is fairly clean, but it is only picked up when the twins are asleep. They are 16 months old, and once they get up, the scattering of toys begins! We have a huge toy collection, and I only pick up once a day. I also do dishes once a day. I vacuum about 3 times a week, and dust about weekly.

I think the place is fairly clean, but it simply is not going to be "museum quality" with 2 toddlers running around. I would think it inappropriate for it to be though! Maybe once they are in school it will be, but until then a good mess is a sign of a good time. ;)

I wouldn't call my house "dirty" though, and people always say my house is cleaner then theirs when they come over to. ;)

Clean? What is this "clean" you speak of? Oh, that must have been the state of my house before Hurricane Jack came along 15 months ago. I was seriously embarrassed to have people come in, thought about calling "Clean House", but then realized a few things: how lucky I am to have this wonderful little boy to come in and drag all his toys out after I just picked them up, how blessed to have the means to give him the toys he loves to drag around, and thankful to even have a home to get messy. Then, I don't feel so bad when the dishes pile up, or when you have to make a path through the toddler toys. If I get it clean today, great. If not, I'll get to it eventually. emoticon

while we do try to keep things in order, often times there is still scattered toys and sippy cups. It feels like an endless battle. Like there is always something to be done. If its not the laundry its the cooking if not the dishes then the vacuming if not the pooper scooping (dog) the lawn mowing and so on and so forth sometimes though gotta be honest i just dont do it. I order takeout and put my feet up and say hey threre is no sense stressing about the dishes if the world will not come to an end if they are not in thier propper place. sometimes stuff can just wait til tomorrow!

My 2yr old seems to make it his mission during the day to make sure his toy box is tipped over and toys are scattered all over his room and into the living room. I do make it a habit to pick them up and even get him to help me from time to time but at the end of the day the toys are once again all over the floor. And now that my mother in law is back and baby sitting a 3yr old toddler the house is even worst off. But as side from the toys being scattered every where we do keep the kitchen picked up and the tables cleared.

ha ha ha ha ha... We moved into our house one week after our baby was born. It was a fixer-upper that wasn't completed being fixed up due to crappy contractors. 3 months later, it's come a long way but still not complete. Not all the boxes are unpacked. It's livable, but the only truly clean room is the nursery.

soo...after my son was born, and even before I went back to work my husband gave me a gift of hiring a person to come clean our house. My son is now a toddler (but not yet two!) and every two weeks since that gift I've had her back, she's like one of the family...that I pay. emoticon I scrape together every last cent to have her back. *sigh* Cleaning the kitchen and the clutter everywhere is our constant battle, daily, but at least on one day, every two weeks, we come home to a sparkling house. I feel like I'm cheating, but there's still a ton of cleaning to be done between times, so it's nice for at least that one day, and sometimes if I'm lucky, the day after. :)

If it weren't for moving twice in the past 9 months it would be easier. I can't wait until everything is clean and in working order so I can keep it that way. Thankfully my 5 year old cleans up after herself and I clean behind my 10 month old. I just need to tackle the kitchen mainly. Unpacking and cleaning everything before it gets put away takes FOREVER, Lol.

I have an 11month old that likes to take the toys out of the toy box as I put them in. He pulls all my towels down in the bathroom and in the kitchen. It's like his job or something lol. He will go looking for them and until they are all on the floor he won't play with his toys.

I try to keep this place clean but my 14 month old and almost 3 yr old can't seem to help themselves!!! Now we have a puppy who loves ripping paper! I really hope the dog stops and the kids stop too!

Just looking around the house can be depressing! But for the most part it isn't that bad. Just wish I had more help. Hubby needs to help out more.

What's a clean house? LOL

I have two daughters, 2-and-a-half years and 2 months, and there are toys EVERYWHERE! We try to keep the mess contained in one room, but that doesn't work at all. And I feel like I never have the time to "clean," not just pick up the toys. But I'm able to keep up with the kitchen about once a day, the hubby vacuums for me once in a while, and I manage to keep the bathroom from looking like frat house. Otherwise, things get cleaned when they get dirty...and that's about it!

i have 3 children 16 month boy, 3 and 8 year old girls. the girls share a room and mess it up 5 minutes after i clean it. i clean the house once a week, I try to pick up toys and make them get their own toys and put them back in their rooms. put their clothes away, etc.
i don't know what a clean house is most of the time. it isn't very dirty but cluttered with kid things

Oh my gosh LISANOLL!

I'm in the exact same boat as you with my 20 month old son's experiments with gravity and food. My husband just sent me an article from babycenter.com this morning that explained the only way to really begin to teach them (albeit still a slow process) is to consistently eat at the table with them and set a good example. Now, I have no idea if you are already doing this, but unfortunately we have not been even though we always talked about doing it and being the perfect parents, right? :-)

Here's to cleaner floor eventually.

I used a biweekly service when I went back to work in 2009. My son was colicky / had acid reflux, so when I got home, all I did was hold him. Same with my husband. It worked great, but I stopped using it after I got laid off. I actually called the same girl to come back now that I'm back to work, but it will end up being only 2 or 3 times before we move.

We just got a bi-weekly cleaning service... it was causing too many issues between us about who should be cleaning, yadda yadda... Gianna is a cyclone going through the house!

I hear you guys on this. I actually joined the clean house team when I was on babyfit, and that didn't help :( We don't do too badly, but it really got to be an issue when my husband took a job out of state, and so from the time my son was 13 months until now, 22 months, it's been me and him all day every day, and we have to keep the house ready to show for sale. It was mainly just toys and laundry until recently, when he's been feeding himself better with a spoon and fork, but also throws his food onto the floor when he's finished. (the 22 month old, not my husband, ha ha). So, my floor was just always a mess. Then, I went back to work part time and it got even worse. So now, I have three weeks to pack it all up, move out, and start over. Maybe the next house will be better :)

I would not know what it is like to live in a clean house. My husband and I work full time and we have three very messy children. They love to leave a trail of toys behind. They are very fortunate to have a huge collection of books and my little one year old thinks that they are in the bookshelves just so he can have fun pulling them all down one by one as if he was in a race. I have books everywhere. As I look behind me I see about 30 toys that need to be picked up. Yikes. The fun never ends. But on a sad note. If you walk in my bedroom it's the most unorganized room in the house. There are no kids living in that room. It drives my husband crazy.

I completely understand not being able to keep it up. I try and try and try but it never works. It is very stressing. I have a 3yr old and a 13month old and they are right behind me messing it up, and to top it off I am going through physical therapy for a back problem and they actually want me to slow down and not do as much????!! LOL I'm tring but it's very difficult, I stress way to much about it not being clean, it's hard to slow down and let something just sit..but I guess with little ones you are just never going to get it all done unless you are constantly busting your butt to do so emoticon

MRSTSUD! That's the best way I've ever heard it--describes me to a T: it was all picked up, cleaned up, and put up... until *I* woke up! Awesome, awesome! Thank you!

I know I just walked in on this conversation, but....what exactly do you mean by "clean". LOL! It's like I told the babysitter today, I honestly had everything picked up, clean up and put up...but then the morning came and we woke up. Oh, well. There's always hope...for someone hiring us maid service or something!!!

emoticon I can definitely say no to that one. ever since my husband had to move to alaska for a job offer from a family member, I can not seem to keep our 17 month old and the clutter under control at the same time. If I am cleaning, he is in the play pen but the moment I set him free, he starts throwing everything back in the floor, whether it be his toys, our clothes, the cats food, and even his snacks (sometimes its crackers or gummies or granola fruit bars). LOL!! Sometimes you just have to laugh in order to keep the sanity. So who wants to chuckle with me? emoticon

Being a single mom of two boys with a full time job, I can totally relate. It seems that before I can get the whole house clean, the place where I started is dirty again. Especially the laundry....it is NEVER done. I sometimes wish for disposable clothes. I used to apologize when people would drop by, but now I just tell them that they just missed the tornado. As long as the dishes are done and the toilets are clean, I don't worry so much about the rest. I would rather spend my limited free time with my boys!!

Ok now we have a clean house. But, that's only because I broke down and hired a house cleaner. Both my husband and I work 45+ hrs at least a week. I was so fed up using my precious time off to clean as opposed to spending time together as a family. So, we hired someone to come do it for us every 2 weeks. It's extra money every month. But, it's well spent. I feel a huge weight has been removed from my back. I love having a clean house. But, just wasn't able to keep up the maintinence anymore. I was just worried it was a luxury I didn't really need. But, I learned after the first year with a baby. I need it.

What I think is awful: my 17-month-old can be around after I've cleaned house longer than my husband. There's just something about him... he leaves a trail from the door to his chair whenever he comes in, and you can really tell that he's been home. I love him dearly, but at least when my daughter makes a mess, it's all toys that can all be put away in the same place. With my man, it's his milk or water glass, some books, some cards, a video game, paperwork he brought home...

LOL! My husband and I look around our house daily and wonder what happened. It only takes a few minutes to get things straightened up but I swear toys and books and random objects fly out of their places the instant we come home with the kiddos!

And my husband cleans - the dishes at least and he'll pick up the living room. And he does laundry. But bathrooms? No way. But I'll take what I can get and I won't complain.

From reading everyones posts, it is concluded that husbands or boyfriends dont clean! Imagine me being a stay at home mom, my "job" is to clean house-cook-take care of baby, the fam runs in and messes it up. Now i think us ladies should go to our hubbys work and mess up their offices , work places and say " See!"

My apartment never stays clean for more then a day. Between my son and my husband and our friends... They keep it messy while I am the only one that cleans it! I am usually tidying up everyday and seeing the same mess every night.

Apparently my house is only clean on the days my sitter is there (Mon-Thurs). Somehow, she manages to keep everything together...on the weekends though I struggle to keep order =/ My son is notorious for messing up something right after I picked it up lol.

You can have a clean house with kids?! Nobody ever told me that! emoticon Seriously though, I have 5 children, ages 9, 5, 4, 3, and 9 months, and it seems the more I clean, the messier the house gets. I'll be cleaning and they follow right behind me making even bigger messes. Little boogers!

my house is never clean. As soon as I pick up something on the floor there is another toy/shoe/blanket etc to replace it. During the week I just do what I can and then I dig in on the weekends and clean everything in sight.

This is my biggest stressor! It's NEVER totally clean, only parts of it. I find it totally overwhelming and depressing. My problem is I think it has to be perfect and I know there is never time for that. I have a lot of anxiety over this. My little 17 month tornado spends all day undoing all that I have done. Lately vie just been doing what I can and realizing it won't be perfect and I just need to practice that more. Plus I will always choose playing with the boys over housework! I really hate the constant need for it.

Keeping my house clean was a huge struggle for me until I found Flylady.com. The flylady teaches that we can do anything in 15 minutes and we don't have to be perfect. Anything you do blesses your family! I must say my house is much cleaner than it has ever been and I don't feel as stressed about it all the time. Even my DD (19 months) has been helping me put up her own toys. It's so cute!

I have to agree with most everyone else. Since my son is lamost 3 1/2 he is learning to pick up after himself (with some prodding) and my daughter is only 3 months, can't make much of a mess yet!
I try my best to keep it "tidy" but serious cleaning is such a hard thing to get to. Its usually when company is coming (which has been often lately, for better and worse) that a lot of the floors, deep bathroom cleaning and dusting gets done. But then I always see something was missed!

I would say it is tidy but not clean...I can find time to put things away while baby naps but haven't been so good at deep cleaning. I expect things will be far worse when I return to work next week.

My house is rarely clean because every time I clean it, I turn around and it's messy again. My son likes to have his toys out of the bin and my daughter's clothes are all over her bedroom. My husband's uniform is everywhere too. We have someone doing housekeeping at least once a month but i let her do the deep cleaning.

Yes and no... I have a housekeeper every other week. Of course it starts out better but ends up a cluttered nightmare by the time she gets here again. I do have 4 adults and 2 kids full time with 2 more part time. Everyone is messy :( I have a few smaller toy bins around the house (2100 sq ft) so I can pick up and toss easily. We also just rearranged the downstairs living room and gave my 16 mo old his own little part of it about 4 ft x 12 ft. I think that's helping too.

I have a neat and organized house because I clean everything up as soon as my daughter goes to bed. Now CLEAN. Well that is a different story. There is NO time for cleaning. You used to be able to eat off my floors (yes I was pretty anal) but I can't really say that anymore. . .although my daughter has no problem doing that. :)

My house was sparkling clean yesterday - took 4 hours and cleaned everything! ... Then my son came home from Gramma's. I think he's actually OFFENDED when his stuff is not spread all over the house.

For about 20 minutes after I clean it and the kids are napping. Once they wake up or the hubby comes home.............all gone!

My house clean its a rarity these days with 3 kids and working full time. If someone stopped over I would literally tackle them and not let them in. Every weekend I try to clean up but my Sunday night it looks awful. Been contemplating a cleaning lady but I would have to clean before she came! I think I might take the plunge for one at least then I know its getting clean on a regular basis.

OMG NO!!! My four year old has started to understand the importance of a clean house-so she has become quite the little helper. My son-who will be 2 in April-is a human hurricane!! I have recently decided that I will not be able to have a clean house until they don't live with me anymore-and then I figure I will wish I had a time machine bc I will miss them so much! Don't sweat it...it's part of being a parent to toddlers!

My house is not clean but its picked up. I try to stay up with it but now that the baby is crawling its been difficult. Although the 3 year old is better at picking up his toys so his brother can't get them. I pick it up every night after they go to bed. I also do some of the fly lady tips but not all. It helps but there are days where nothing gets done and thats ok too.

I am a stay at home mom with four kids, two of them go to school and the other two are home with me. I would say on average I clean the living room at least 3 times a day, the kitchen about the same, and then other areas in the house I pic different days of the week to do them. It helps with the stress level of being rushed or caring too much! Sometimes you just got to let go have fun and it can wait!

I have a clean house but I have to have a To Do List to stay on top of things. I also have a routine which helps. I plan meals, activities, and chores ahead of time. But I do want to mention, I'm a stay at home mom and I have two school-aged children and my third child is home with me... so it's alot easier for me to stay on top of things. When they are all home and when my youngest was small, it was very hard so alot of things suffered, but that's okay :)
