I can't eat like I would like to either, because I don't have the money for it. It's hard when you're broke and sick, and unfortunately the two feed each other. But all we can do is the best we can do, right?

I also watched it - but being on medicare and medicaid - they do not pay for natural paths- and I can not afford all these supplements she talks about ....... will do what I can as far as diet - hard when by the end of the month I have to go to the food banks where they give you what ever the stores want to get rid of - and I have a trash bag full of stuff to give away or have to throw away -

Forgot to include much of an introduction in my original post. emoticon

My name is Andee. I'm 59, mom to 6 grown kids, 3 still live at home. All 7 of us have battled chronic & debilitating ailments. 2 of us are on disability, 3 more probably should be now but are trying to push on a little longer. The other 2 have been making changes in their lifestyles that are leading them to have fewer chronic problems. Hmmm....

We've suffered many stresses: I've conceived 16 children, seen 3 die shortly after delivery, watched 1 die during an ultrasound, and of the 6 that survived... have done CPR on all of them, more than once. Had to stop & do it in the middle of a traffic lane once, just 2 blocks from the hospital. Did it 3 different times in hospitals (starting it before the code blue team arrived). A couple times in parking lots. But mostly, at home, at night, with no other parent present. And there's even more times EMTs or Docs were already present & they proceeded to do it.
After 18 years of an increasingly abusive marriage, I got divorced. More stress! The judge said it was the most acrimonious ever presided over in all his 30+ years on the bench! He retired the next year. The kids & I had to deal with bomb threats, attempted kidnappings, threats on our lives, and tons of others problems that all got worse between the time the sheriff came and removed him from our home, with orders that he not return until he was seen in court - and the time when the custody of the children was finally settled. A total of 32 months! That was Nov 2000. A true narcissist, my x continued his torment in any manner he could find... but staying under the radar of any authorities that might have an interest.
But finally, the last of kids has realized it's better in so many ways to cut off contact with him. The 3 not living with me all moved far enough away he didn't stalk them or harass them anymore. 2 are still in the state - 3 & 4 hours away. The 3rd is more like 13 or 14 hours drive about 6 states away. We're in Wisconsin, She's in New York. But that is changing...
(more stress, but maybe a good kind)
The 4 of us here will be moving away in the next 2 to 5 months, to a larger city about 2 hours away from here & just 90mins away from my 2 that moved away earlier but stayed in WI. So we'll get to see them more too! One of them is so traumatized by all she experienced here that she gets sick(er) every time she tries to visit us.

Aside from all the stress and health issues, when I am able I love to write, to sew, to do creative things. I love art & music & history. I read my Bible every day. And I'm building up my own business in the health & wellness industry (a big reason for me to discover what will work for me in losing weight & feeling healthy!)!!!

After watching 4 of the first 5 of 9 episodes of THE THYROID SECRET it seems my next move is to try all of the natural suggestions and see if any of them work for me!

The series is primarily about Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.
This is new to me - although I've battled auto-immune issues for decades - as have my kids - my siblings - my nieces & maybe my nephews. I think my mom has - but she's never going to admit it. Would not be surprised to learn of more extended family with auto-immune issues too!
But not once have doctor's even suggested my thyroid could be having any problems.
Other people have suggested I have a slow thyroid, or hypothyroid.
In the last 10 years the only test done on thyroid was TSH - it's "fine" so they go no further.

After learning so much in viewing this series I have a totally different view of things!!!

So I searched you out on SP... been a member here since 2006 and still essentially the same weight. Lately I've been paying closer attention to a "theory" I came up with that seems to be proving true --- and falls in line with episode 5's dietary recommendations!
When I eat only good proteins and vegetables for a whole day (just because that's how it worked out that day) I drop a pound or two AND my pain levels are down AND my energy is up AND I just seem to feel better all around. In general I keep my carbs on the healthy side: gluten free if bread or pasta, potatoes (white, red, sweet, etc), brown rice, good fruits & veggies, a little chocolate (which also brings in fats & sometimes they aren't as healthy - depends on the chocolate). But I very rarely go for baked goods (cakes, pies, etc) or other sweets anymore. I'm still struggling with quitting sugar but definitely have way less than I used to. But it is seeming more like ANY grain is a problem.
Logic says I need to stick to healthy proteins & veggies only if I'm going to feel better and be able to lose the 150# or so that I need to lose.
I just haven't convince the rest of the household & I'm not resisting when someone else is preparing such yummy dishes that include stuff beyond protein & veggies.

Anyway - all that is a work in progress. I have seen a lot I want to check out in this team and looking forward to learning more about all of this!

And also want to say... emoticon 1CRAZYDOG, fancy seeing you here! ;-) Wonder who else I know here.......... emoticon
