I finished my 30 day challenge!!! My group is starting another challenge on Monday for toning problem areas. Unfortunately, I figure since I get at least a 30 minute walk in the morning, I don't need to do my 20 minute elliptical workout. I need to change that mentality! I can say that I was at the grocery store during my usual time, but that would just be making excuses. My walking buddy and I are working up to walking a 5k! We are currently at 2.25 miles, so only a little less than a mile to go.

Since I've start working out more, I feel like I'm starving all the time! It's possible that between all of the exercising and breastfeeding, I could be? Anywho, still not happy with the scale, but I did take measurements on the first.

Sorry my post is so jumbled! My brain is tired :)

Ashbug -- A fax machine needs to be plugged into a phone line. If you don't use your current home phone (most people do not anymore due to their cell phones), you can just plug in there and it will work. If you want a dedicated line for the fax, the phone company would have to do that and give you a different number for it.

Hi y'all :)

Happy Saturday!!! Just checking in! Things are finally settling at my house and I'm feeling a little more comfortable.. so now I need to get things in order with my diet.. I just keep going up and up... But that stops now :) Need to get back into a challenge and show myself what I can do! I am capable of doing better than what I am doing right now.

I got a gym membership for the first time in (well ever...) So I'm pretty hyped up about that! Plus they have childcare Monday-Friday from 6-8pm so I will be taking my little ones and doing that during the week. I am very happy about that :) I get free sessions with a personal trainer (6 of them) so I'm going to take advantage of that option. I'm looking forward to getting started I can't wait until Monday! :) This is part of my health insurance, I didn't know health insurance had gym memberships to be honest.... but I learned that mine does and it's only $25.00 each month, which is a steal really... I know some big box gyms have memberships cheaper but I would have to drive 30 plus minutes to get to them and in the evening, I'm not feeling that at all.. There are 2 gyms right in my town I can join with this membership I have, I can visit either or both of them if I want, so that's the great part! :)

Anyway - Ashbug, I'm excited about working with you in the next challenge!! WhooooHoooo! :) Thanks so much for stepping up. I would love to get in to it and be part of something in the future, but right now - My head is just all a mush in light of whats going on in my house right now... but that is getting better too. :) We are settled in and have a new routine down, so we really are doing well, I'm happy to report :)

It happens, the scale isn't an exact measurement of what you actually weigh - as funny as that sounds, so many things go in to your weight, the 4lbs you are referring to are most likely just water weight that will work itself off within in a couple hours or even a day or so - Try not to let that get to you - but I will say, I am famous for letting that get to me too.. so do as I say and not as I do on that one!! :)

I hope y'all have a great weekend :)

Sara

I weighed myself yesterday because the scale was out and today because it's my weigh in day. Today was FOUR pounds heavier than yesterday. I don't even know what to do with that mentally.

Morning all, sorry I've been MIA lately, things have just been crazy! Right now I'm up in Massachusetts for my younger brother's wedding. I'm loving it up here, the weather, the colors of the trees, the houses, roads, stores................it's HOME to me and I don't want to go back to Florida. The wedding is on Sunday and just found out yesterday that it's an OUTSIDE wedding! Ok yes this will be fun walking in gravel, grass and dirt in 5.5" heels not to mention my dress is basically sleeveless and it's quite windy where the ceremony is, good news is the reception is on the same grounds and inside. So this will be interesting, not to mention the tension there will be between my father and mother who just had their divorce finalized back in May and that my father has completely written me off cuz I'm living with mom......and my older brother's wife seems to have an issue with my mother and is also putting it on me, completely ignored us yesterday and made an uncalled for comment. Turns out my mom, my older brother, my future sister-in-law's mom and brother, and I are ALL left handed so I made the joke "well we're all in our right minds then" and my brother's wife just said very loudly "thats not true, not everyone here is...."something or other. I could of easily told her that you use your right side of your brain when you move anything on the left but why stoop down to her level, so I just kept quiet. And when I saw my father I didn't even recognize him, he had gastric bypass surgery a couple yrs ago and well I finally saw how much he looks like my grandfather but he also looked like a ghost and sickly. He still has a stomach but all the weight has left his face and arms to the point where he just doesn't look healthy. He looks like how my grandfather looked when he was in a nursing home right before his passing, not the grandfather I knew growing up when he still lived at home and when my grandmother was still alive.

Anyway after the wedding we're making a quick side trip to Buffalo so mom can tend to my grandparents graves and she also wants to see the falls, then back to the horrendous heat of Florida.
Looking forward to this upcoming challenge, this time of year usually hits me hard for weight loss so we'll see how it goes.

Ashbug- last I knew about fax machines is that you need a phone line in order to send or receive faxes, but this is 10-20yrs ago so I don't know about fax machines today. I do know that there are internet phone lines, where you can use your computer to make phone calls but not really sure how that all works. Good luck to you!

Kim

Good morning! Just checking in! I'm supposed to be working, but the systems are down... It's annoying to get up early for mandatory overtime and have the systems be down!

I've been really busy - lots over overtime at work, and they are predicting that will continue through early next year. Ugh!

I'm looking forward to the next challenge starting. I need SOMETHING to get me back on track!

I did it again. I walked for the full 30 even though I intended to only do 10 -15. I intended this to be an active rest day but I felt so good right from the start of the walk that it felt like it would be a waste to make it a rest day. I am worried about burning myself out since I tend to do that a lot.

Is it better to force one or two rest/active recovery days or to just take each day as it comes and see how it goes?

Gini - I'm dreading my doctor appointment in a few weeks because I'm worried about being told I'm pre or diabetic. My brother was diagnosed as pre earlier in the year and his doctor had him start by seeing a nutritionist. It seems like a good place to start.

Day 5! Woo! Keeping the streak alive. I probably should take a day or two to do less and slower though because weirdly enough my ankle is hurting not when I'm on the treadmill but after. My 10 minute minimum is coming in handy already. Almost every day I've woken up not feeling like exercising and telling myself I'll do 10 and done but by then I'm in to it. I'm not sure where I read that advice but I know it's what kept me alive during my best consistent streaks.

Ashbug - I'm the same way. Bulking up with more veggies and stuff doesn't often work. I just read an article today that it's a great time to get in the groove health wise because if you're already on a roll it'll be easier to keep it up during the holdiays and get right back on track after holiday parties/thanksgiving/whatevers that come up.

kitty, I know all about the problem of being hungry all the time if I cut down on calories. they say eat more veggies to fill up and protein ect. but it doesn't always do it for me lol but lately ive been finding things to do to take my mind off food and been doing pretty good .
I don't think I am actually hungry but for me I think lot of it is boredom and habit. if I go in the kitchen I automatically think I have to put something in my mouth to eat. so I try to stay out of the kitchen lol

holidays are fast approaching and its areally hard time for lots of us when it comes to eating so im hoping we can all kinda start watching now so we can see a difference by the holidays and maybe get some good habits started

Hey everyone!

This week is turning into a Beautiful fall week after a chilly start on Sunday. Fall is my favorite season by far. I've been getting back into exercise after a lousy September. I have my good days and my bad but I'm trying to take each as it comes. This morning I thought I was going to have to cut it short but after 10 minutes of sucking everything smoothed out and I felt great.

I don't know why but whenever I try to cut my calories I feel like I'm STARVING all the time. I can manage this for a short time but I can't keep it up. My most successful weight loss was when I managed to keep it up for about 6 months but that's just not sustainable if I'm hungry all the time and sure enough it wasn't. I really want to get a good head start on next year but I'm struggling on finding what works for me.

Ashbug - This is my favorite time of year too.

Dawna - emoticon

Sara - I'm sorry to hear things aren't so hot right now.

I'm on day 21 of my 30 day challenge and I'm feeling great! I have started motivating people and my husband has been super supportive. I just have to tell myself that just because the challenge is over, it doesn't mean for me to stop.

I just ate too much of something I really shouldn't have and now I feel sick. I want to throw it out, I feel so bad. I need to come up with a better breakfast and lunch plan for during the week so I don't sabotage myself!

I've been doing more than 30 minutes each day. Except for one glass of milk, I have been doing really good with my water. I feel like I'm doing okay with my food choices. I weighed in yesterday and either I lost 0.2 or gained 1.8 or whatever. My scale needs new batteries. However, I'm disappointed that the numbers aren't changing.

I know it takes time, especially since I'm just getting back into the groove. I am breastfeeding, so I kinda wonder if maybe I'm not eating enough to lose. I don't want to make excuses, but I want to figure out why. It's so disheartening to make so much progress and nothing.

BUT I am completing my workouts easier and going further during the same time period. My husband said he's super proud of my progress 😁

Welcome back Yvonne and welcome home Kim.
Annie I have psoriatic arthritis and it can make exercise a little complicated. Some days I feel great and most days walking even makes me feel better (even if only for a little while) other days I wake up feeling like I got hit by a bus. I try to really listen to my body; if it needs rests I give it rest. Do you have somewhere you can swim, we have an above ground pool and it really feels heavenly when I do get in there (monsoons here in Arizona limit the pool time).
Brenda I had not read the news about Jackie Collins, thank you for sharing. I have a toddler at home and somehow the only thing Im current on is cartoons. A close friend of mine; back in our call center days, would read her novels between calls. There are some lines from one of the books we often joke about these days still. What a loss.
Great job Sara on the loss, and I agree a loss is a loss! Way to go on the exercise challenge Dawna! I have a little one and am a new stay at home momma and my little also loves going for walks with mom in her stroller, but, I also loooove going walking solo to clear my head.
I am so glad its cooling down here in Tucson, it wont be really nice until probably closer to November though. I still have to get out on my walks as close to seven as possible or it just is too warm out. My husband may be getting transferred to Seattle, and Im half excited for a new adventure with my family and half terrified. I am a native Tucsonan and as much as I complain about the heat I am a bit worried about adjusting to a new climate after, eh hem, thirty something years here haha. I am just trying to stay focused on getting this weight off, I managed a little over two and half pounds loss this week. We are going on vacation to Disneyland in December and I am really trying to lose a total of 60 before we take off. I have currently lost a little over 24 so that leaves me about 36 to go in about 12 weeks or so. My average has been about 2.5 a week so Im not sure its possible but we will see.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I'm in the PNW and hoping to get some nice cold rainy weather this winter!!! We really need it. Luckily the baby doesn't mind a little rain on our walks :)

I love walking more in cooler weather! I don't feel like I'm going to die ;)
With me wearing the baby, I just have to make sure her head stays warm, since everything else is covered. I have a jacket that I can wear over her carrier and it helps keep her warm. I do want to get her a winter suit for when it gets colder.

Happy FALL! Yes, the Autumn Equinox has arrived...cool, crisp air; multi-colored trees; the smell of wood smoke and burning leaves in the air; apple cider; state fairs.......

I am jumping back in and saying hi! I've been a member for well over a year, but you know, life. I had a baby in July and trying to get back into the groove. I joined a 30/30 challenge (30 minutes of exercise for 30 days) and am doing really well so far. I'm on Day 8 and feeling good. My husband is being helpful and watches the baby if I need him to. If all else, I strap the baby on and go for a walk or jump on the elliptical! So yeah, hi :)

Good Morning y'all :)

All is well here - It's been a busy week for me. What a great challenge! Thanks Dusty for leading such a great team! Go Blue! :) I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to team up with you Donna, I'm sure you guys had a great time! Looking forward to the next challenge :)

My home life has been somewhat in an uproar as of late so I'm very distracted by this and lost focus a bit.. I did post a loss this week after a gain.. (granted a teeny tiny loss) but a loss is a loss, right? :)

I hope you are all having a great week!

I want to thank each and every one of you who was a member of the green team. Each of you helped to make the team great and mighty green team. Sorry I was missing the last few days of the challenge, I knew I would be prior to joining as your leader. Hope the experience was a positive one for each of you. Donna

Bern - LOL I've been back for a little over a week now and can you believe the one week I've been back I've gained weight but not when I was away?! AUGH, that's why I've been doing some batch cooking and thinking about doing a whole meatless week to try to get back on track.

Novelist Jackie Collins dies of breast cancer at age 77

LOS ANGELES - Jackie Collins, the best-selling author of dozens of steamy novels who depicted the boardrooms and bedrooms of Hollywood's power crowd, died on Saturday of breast cancer at age 77, her family said.

The British-born Collins, younger sister of actress Joan Collins, died in Los Angeles, said her spokeswoman Melody Korenbrot.

"It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of our beautiful, dynamic and one of a kind mother, Jackie Collins, who died of breast cancer today," the family said in a statement.

Collins sold more than 500 millions copies of her books in 40 countries and has some 30 New York Times bestsellers, according to her own website.

Some of her most successful novels included "Hollywood Wives," "Lucky" and "Lady Boss," which were also adapted for television.

Collins faced controversy early in her career, writing novels so steamy they outraged political figures from Britain to China.

Annie,
I deal with chronic back pain (among other pain/medical issues) and I'm still dealing with it. I understand how you feel about not knowing your body anymore and how easy it is to get frustrated with your body because it can't do what it used to and pain is holding you back. I recently had a big setback myself and am trying to get back to regular exercise.

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of advice to give at the moment besides the usual take it one day at a time. Some days I feel great and can do more. I'm still learning how to figure out how much is too much so I don't end up ruining the next few days by doing too much on a good day. Days that I can't do much I don't do much. I'm still feeling my way forward like you are. One thing I'm planning to do is what I did to get consistent in the first place which is to have a ten minute minimum exercise time. So on days where that's all I feel I can do I accept that - no judgment, no beating myself up over it.

Good luck on your journey. I'm sure that slowly we'll figure out what works and what doesn't and find our new way forward.

Take care.

Hi everyone,

I've been on and off here for a while now. Not that I quit on my journey or anything like that I've just been dealing with some stuff and I seem to have to reevaluate my journey a lot these past couple of months.

I already had health issues which was the main reason for me to lose weight and get healthier (by being more active) back in August 2012 and now 3 years in I've lost about 65 to 70 lbs. depending on when I weigh myself and I've maintain that loss for about a year or so now which is fine. My only concern or the part that I find harder is the being active part.

I was actually loving it and I was going for about an hour or so of physical activities each day before I injured myself last year which led to being diagnosed with osteoarthritis and me having complications with my back and shoulders.

So now I feel like I'm stock in the same place and each time I set a goal for being more active I can't keep it. Not because I lack motivation or time, just because my body won't cooperate and i get so frustrated by it.

I still have all those other health issues to deal with and now that and I feel like being active will help me but I quite don't know where or how to start again. It's like I don't know my own body and its limit anymore and so that's the reason why I've been MIA here.

And instead of writing about it here and seek for advice I tried doing it alone but I came to the conclusion that I might need a little of moral support on that one.

Have any of you had issues similar to this ?
Getting back to being an active person or at least more active and facing physical challenges such as a lot of pain ? And if so how did you get past that ?

Anyway thank you to all that'll read this and I wish a lot success to everyone on your journey.

Finally back home and to a foodless house. Our luggage was delayed so had to go back to the airport to get the suitcases, why cuz of much miscommunication and wrong info given and many people telling us different things counterdictering what the previous person had told us. Lesson 1 don't ever have a connecting flight through JFK and I mean NEVER EVER 2 if you find out you need to grab your bag even though you were told you won't have to, grab it! Even if it means you might miss your flight, trust me there are always other flights and I would rather the hassle of getting on another flight then the hassle of not having my bags and having to come back at a later time to get them.
It has been a very tiring and exhausting ordeal and I still have to unpack and do about a month's worth of laundry.
I'm still jet lagged and my body still feels like it's 6 hours ahead but it's getting better, yesterday woke up around 3:30am not able to get back to sleep, today been up since 5. Oddly yesterday I was craving fried food, and I mean the fried greasy food that I haven't eaten since I don't know when. I think my body was craving the fat from only of had lunch on the plane ride from europe and a snack later but no real dinner. Also have really bad fluid retention in my feet and ankles, that also might of had a play in things.
So for lunch before we went back to the airport to get our luggage had the foods I was craving, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and just happened to come with fried pickles, along with a big juicy bacon cheeseburger and fries. I know it was such the picture of heath! LOL Oh well hopefully once I go food shopping I will get back on track with eating healthy and nonprocessed foods free of artificial chemicals and such.
I need to make up 3 meatless Mondays as well, those kind of went out the window on the trip, figured I could either easily make them up in the span of 1-2 weeks. I did however keep up with eating fish while I was away which I am happy with, so my new year's resolutions I've maintained up to the point I left aren't a total bust.
I'm definitely gonna have to do some serious meal planning for the next 2 weeks to get back on schedule and I think I might of either maintained or gained a few lbs on the trip, and with my younger brother's wedding in the about a month going to have to be really strict with myself and get back into exercising.

Last day in Rome, leaving early tomorrow for HOME!!!!!! Oh I can't wait to be in my own bed again and to see my precious furchild. Florence was kinda a bust, ended up spending the 2nd day there with food poisoning. Feeling nauseous and like I'm gonna hurl even at the mention of food or whenever I drank water, but walked mom to the 2 museums she wanted to go to. Afraid they gypsies would get her or she would get lost or both. Will be interesting what the scale says when I get back, we've been eating and walking a min of 10k steps with some days going over 20k.

It's been a very long time since I've been here. I am committing to be active again and get serious about losing weight. I will be joining your next contest. Had a lot of life changing events happen these past months. Husband had an accident at home, broke his right heel, thus was unable to drive himself anywhere for about 5 months. Looking forward to reacquainting with old friends and making new ones. Yvonne

Sara, thank you so much. I have also been off the pop for a while and I guess if I really think about it, there have been some little changes. I do have much more energy and I dont feel like I need a three hour nap midway thru my day. I sleep better at night which is nice. I pray the other stuff will come in time, baby steps I suppose.
I am sorry for the loss of your kitty friend. Im highly allergic to cats but I had many growing up before we figured out the allergy and just love them. I do have three legged Pomeranian that rescued us when he was a year old. He showed up on the doorstep up my upstairs apartment on a rainy night, drenched with a little purple cast on. Our local Humane Society re-cast and ultimately amputated and after waiting the appropriate waiting period for his owner to claim him we got to make him a part of our family, he is ten years old now. He is a little ornery but we love him dearly.
Kim a very close friend of mine lived in Italy for a while and always raved about the food, the pizza in particular. Your post has my mouth watering.
My little spent yesterday with her grandma but is back home today with mommy. We went for a nice walk and took big sissy to college. Yeah sixteen years difference between my girls lol I truly did forget how hard little one were hahah. We are now playing play-dough and water Little Mermaid. I need to get on menu planning and make up a grocery list for the next week or so, but am totally procrastinating. I frequent a website called Skinnytaste for healthy recipes, does anyone have any healthy recipes they could recommend?
