We all get together on Thanksgiving as I'm out of town. so my oldest sister and I travel to my two brothers and other sister's house. We are definitely full with leftovers afterwards and thanksgivings as we reflect on how good God was, is and it to be!

This afternoon, my wife and I bought grave decorations for our parent's and some of our relatives graves. This is something that she has done since I met her, the decorating relatives graves. It is just that the number of graves to visit seems to keep getting larger! But serves as a good time of remembrance.

Like everyone else our kids are spread far and wide, My Mom is the only parent left and she is with my sister this year. With everything that is happening in our life right now, we will spend a quiet Christmas at home a then a day with #2 son and his family, then a day trip to #1 son since DDIL can't travel as our gift will arrive in 5 weeks. We just saw #3 son and family. DD is in CA and try to visit her every 3rd year for Christmas.

This year I didn't decorate because of our sudden trip for DS#3. Usually, I have a tree and some sentimental decorations out. I do a lot of baking and will do that next week.

Queen, we have that in our families too (in-laws not liking each other). It is a disappointment at the Holidays. My parents are gone too. This time of year can be pretty bittersweet. Try to have a good time anyway and enjoy the time spent with the people you do get to see. I hope your daughter comes with her kids and the new guy. Have a blessed Thanksgiving! emoticon

My husband, both my parents and my in laws are resting in heaven so things changed alot. We would visit my dad on Thanksgiving and Christmas the first half of the day and then my husbands family the second half of the day. My Siblings and our families gather for Thanksgiving at a designated house and for Christmas we spend it at home with our own family. My oldest daughter and her children lives in another city but always come home for both holidays. She is now dating a wonderful guy so I am sure she will not come home this Christmas. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. Our families decided to do something different. We have rent a cabin in the mountains of Tennessee and will all travel there and spend Wednesday thru Saturday. My sister from Kansas City and her family probably has the longest drive. My brother, oldest sister and I we all live in the same city. We had to siblings that decided not to join us. My sister does not care for my brother-in-law so she opted out. What a shame!! I guess everyone does not know how to look pass the faults of others. But I am so ready. We have made so many plans. I am praying God's protection over everyone on our trip there and back.

Bob,

I'm told there is nothing better than a grandbaby. So glad you have that in your life and can start new holiday memories with a little one! I'm sure my life will change again down the road if and when my own young adult children have kids of their own. They are not in any way ready for that in either of their lives right now though. Enjoy your time with the grandbaby!

I know what you mean Trish, but after so many years without a little one in the family, we are so looking forward to the holidays. I know that Emerson will still be too young to realize what all is going on, but the lights and things will fascinate him!

Its just my DH and two kids on most holidays. Our relatives all live too far away for visiting most years and vise versa. This year will be a first for us though as my son moved out into his own apartment this past fall. Will be strange for me to have 'come back home' for holiday meals and celebrations.

We actually enjoy the quietness of our holidays now. When the kids were little we traveled to grandparents, aunts or uncle's houses and there was always so much commotion.

My family is shrinking rapidly due to our relatives eternal rewards. Normally we would start the decorating on the day after Thanksgiving. But since Margaret is having her shoulder operated on Dec. 2, we are doing things earlier. I have been working on the outside to clean up the leaves and such to start putting the outdoor things up. I plan on doing a little each day so that it is not a tremendous job. During the evenings, we are going to start decorating the inside so it is done ahead of time. I have over 15 inflatable objects, and a dozen lighted reindeers and lights and ornaments for the outdoors. The last couple of years I haven't done much as I didn't feel it was worth it. Now that there is a grandbaby, who will like the lights and all, it has more meaning and I have more drive. If I think of it I will try and post a pic or two of the house decorated.

I guess I can say I don't have any family traditions right now. My parents are both gone and my sister lives way up in Maine. It is just my husband and me right now. When we were in Maine we had to get together with his family for Christmas which was not all that fun. The whole day was all about the two spoiled grand children and the rest of us basically ignored. The last time I went I was totally ignored and the person I sat across the table from wouldn't even look at me! I no longer have any dealings with his family sad to say. Their loss not mine.
I hope we can start some kind of traditions. I know I will be decorating my house which will be a first since I got married in 2012. Looking forward to the holiday this year at least ; )

Even though I am an empty nester now, I still put a tree in honor of the Lord's Birth. We keep dinner small and sometimes my youngest gets to come for a visit, which is quite the Blessing. On occasion we make a trip to my husbands biological mom's house and sometimes it is with his step mom and sister. One thing it is, it's never dull.

I do look forward to our annual phone call from the grand kids on both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving is when I get the Santa wish list, that Grandma and Grandpa do their best to fill. We have so much fun listening to their phone call on Christmas morning when they get to tells what Santa brought them from Florida. It is a hoot.

I just wish they could Skype with me, I so would love to see those faces.

With both of my parents in Heaven, my family traditions have changed too. We still celebrate both days with my husband's family, and we do get together at a restaurant with my brother and his wife sometime around Christmas. I miss it the way it used to be. It will be different this year because my husband's family has gone through a change. However, I think it may be nicer, too. We have no grandchildren yet, but our niece is almost two years old, so this Christmas should be a lot of fun with her. Plus, we've gained back a family member who'd been in absentia (long story) for several years. Our church is starting to pick up again, so I look forward to our celebrations with our church family this year too. Since my parents are gone, we have Christmas on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day is often very quiet around here. I think I might readopt an old tradition from my home which my mother implemented even before I was born. Since we didn't go to grandparents' homes for Christmas, we were always home on Christmas Day. Mom didn't want to fix big meals both days, so she started having a luncheon with special cheeses, breads, crackers, chips and dip, and Christmas cookies. Sometimes she'd even fix a special punch (not spiked). We also had a live tree, so we didn't trim the tree until about a week before Christmas. I could go on and on, but maybe I'll post more another day. I might use the Christmas Eve luncheon on Christmas Day instead of Christmas Eve. emoticon

With the holidays coming, I am always interested in how other families celebrate the holidays. As my son has moved out of town, and our parents have gone to their heavenly reward, our family holidays have changed. I am happy to hear that my son and his family will be coming in for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. I know they are going to change now since we have a grandson, and hopefully many more in years to come! So tell of your family traditions!
